Rode this line many decades ago when it went to Chatham, NY. Changed from diesel to electric engine at Brewster. Unfortunately, CONRAIL was allowed to pull up most of the track. Right-of-way north of Wassaic is now a trail. Seems to me that the population in that part of NYS could have supported returning service to Chatham.
@@ss04to06 you are correct. The upper Harlem from North White plains to Brewster North was electrified in 1984. In 1969 when PC absorbed the New Haven FL9’s were transferred to the Harlem to pull trains from GCT to Chatham. That service ended in Dec 1972. The FL9’s went as far as Brewster and RDC shuttles ran from Brewster to Dover Plains which became the northern end of passenger service. Prior to 1969, NYC then PC trains between Chatham and North WP were pulled by RS3’s as well as trains from Brewster to NWP. at NWP the RS3 was a exchanged for an electric motor.
If you ever get the chance to do a cab view of this line, I would love to see that. My father in law lived in Aminia and I had always wanted to take this trip, but never did.
Thanks for uploading. I'm familiar with the Upper Harlem from Amenia to Chatham. One of my friends used to take this train from Wasaic to GCT when he had to go into the city. Hopefully, you maybe able someday to post a carbide view, also.
Back in the early 70s, we had a summer home in Copake NY, back then it known as the Harlem Division, I remember the train station was Copake Falls not far from Wassic
I have a need for speed. At 1:33:33, the train goes nonstop from White Plains to Harlem-125 Street. This is one of my favorite Metro-North express runs. Overall, I enjoyed this video. My only complaint is that you filmed this from a backwards-facing seat.
Approx. $27 during rush hour and $20 during off-peak times. At the moment, there is no direct service to/from Wassaic into Grand Central. All trips require a transfer at Southeast.
I’d like to at some point. I’ve been thinking about filming the direct morning routes from GCT to Danbury and New Canaan as well as the Waterbury Branch.
It would be nice but somewhat difficult to do given that the former right-of-way is a rail trail or just plain gone in certain sections. Major construction would have to occur in order to extend the line back to Chatham.

Interesting. I thought the line north of North White Plains was not electrified until 1984 long after service to Chatham had ended.

😂Wassaic Shuttle makes me recall why I miss upstate New York so much.
Bronxville looks like a beautiful city. Love to check it out someday.
It still is, grew up there in the 60s and 70s , Big bucks to live there
There should be a Christmas song here: “Wassaic, Wassaic, all over the town....”

Do you know what time you had arrived at dover I was just wondering.
1:30:16 I have seen those ads all over the Metro North system, and I would say 75% of them are vandalized.
Random Railfan lmao 😂

I'm so confused why there was an Amtrak train at Harlem... Anyone know how that's even possible?
I actually live in Chappaqua
Why did it bypassed the Appalachian Trail Station?
AT Station gets very limited service (weekends and holidays only) and is a flag stop.
May I ask how much it costs from end to end? And roughly 2 hours for entire trip?

Need to go back north to Chatham?

@@ss04to06 It could be possible, since they reinstated trains on the Old Colony Line in Mass. and in process of restoring service to New Bedford?
what time did you go
8:13 AM out of Wassaic with a transfer at Southeast for the 9:08 AM to Grand Central.
Just curious but when was this video recorded?
