Your video is super helpful! I am also grateful for the location descriptions and key moments added. My son will be riding the train, for the first time, from Maine to New York (school to home) and this was perfect. Thank you!!
I do a Boston trip once or twice a year. I go on Amtrak because it’s cheap and convenient. I can get work done, and also take a nap. I ride on the train to go to my eye appointments in Portland. $3 one way from Brunswick to Portland is awesome. Going to Boston is cheap too, however if you ride in business class, it’s $80 round trip.
Thank you! I’ve been riding the Downeaster throughout my childhood and now use it as a link between home and school. I used to search for videos of the whole trip, but no one seemed to have bothered so I felt compelled to upload my own trip.
Nice video..the scene at 2:11 is CPF-HA in Haverhill MA. It's an interlocking & also the layover facility is over at Bradford station. Btw i just subbed to you :)
It's called an NPCU (Non powered cab unit). It was an F40 but they were converted to non power cab cars. No engine, no fuel. Just an operating cab and luggage storage. Amtrak does not use any true F40's any longer. Everything they have now is unpowered. The 406 has an HEP generator, but no traction power.
I notice at most stations, they only seem to open 1 door, which means passengers in the other cars wanting to get off have to move to the 1 car with the open door. At what stations do they open all the doors? Is it only at North Station, or are there others? At what stations do you need to show your ticket to get onto the platform?

Exactly what I was looking for to decide about riding Amtrak north.

Great video, can you get to Bangor by train, planning on flying to US next year to do the journey over a week , Boston to Bangor and back
Unfortunately the furthest north it goes is Brunswick maine. Still about another 2 hours drive before you hit bangor
2:07:28 Plaistow, NH looks beautiful
This is one of the Best UA-cam videos ever!!!
Hope it can be extended to Bangor at some point??
Anyone know what’s the luggage allowance ? They allow checked baggage? 50 lbs bags ….
Awesome video. I’ve taken this a few times.. would be cool to see a full ride coming from Boston
Oooh very nice!
Is that an F40PH leading?
It was, yes :)

People take this to work everyday.
I live in the next town over from Brunswick
Maybe not as "fancy" as the B & M/ Maine Central trains of yore, very nice, none the less
I was going to take it from Boston to Portland.
It turned me down completely so I will fly instead.
And I love the down Easter and the final this is my aunts husband dad owns a hot dog place on the way there
