“Wait where did Sindri go?” This pretty much confirms that Sindri didn’t give a shit about the war, once the wall was breached he was going straight for Odin. What a badass
Odin is worse compared to zeus, Olympian gods has Zeus's back but odin own family wanted him crushed by kratos, and heimdall blindly believed him, refusing see beyond the deception of odin.
the difference that Olympian Gods got corrupted, thats why they see Kratos as a Threat when Kratos just want Zeus die, and Kratos come along with Titans also make they see Kratos as enemy, thats why they back up Zeus, even tho its just 'temporary'. on Norse case, most of Gods knew that Odin are beyond assholes and they did not get corrupted, only a few like Heimdall who keep licking Odin's dirty feet.
Zeus is much worse. Odin killed them for a purpose. Zeus killed his own sons all the time. He killed Kratos's brother because of prophecy. He raped countless human women like Kratos's mother. He abuses people like Hefestus to make his lightning bolts. He's just an authoritarian king that does whatever he wants. Zeus was far worse and brutal for his own entertainment. Odin is just the better written villain so they know how to make you hate him more. Stories especially Sony games are a lot better written now than back when the OG GoW came out. If these writers wrote the dialogue for the originals even with the same plot I garuntee you'll hate Zeus more.
@@antonradke5943 he is the guardian of asgard, which Odin is figure head of. Technically he knew and went along with doing schemes because Odin wasn't lying when he said it WAS for the better of asgard. Heimdall could literally see Odin true vision always.
He had to die to give justice to Brok’s death. Also Kratos tried his best to make him see reason. He also knew one of them had to die. Can’t have two destroyers in the same realm. However he did die a changed god. He saw reason and left his trust and will to Kratos and Atreus
Nah man the moment Thor dropped his hammer, he changed. Although he didn’t get the chance to live up to it, at least Thrud got to see that in his final moments, Thor was a changed man indeed and that will live on in her.
Cant believe i didnt realize right away, Kratos keeps hesitating with Thor, partly because he doesnt wish to kill everyone and everything in his way, but mostly because he sees himself in Thor, a shitty father wanting to control everything and using him as a tool, dead children, dead brother, both committed genocide and filled with bitterness and rage. Kratos literally felt sorry for him and wanted him to find peace like he found for himself.
Unironically, that’s what it took Kratos, too. After killing Zeus, he was a bitter man who realised that revenge did not fulfill the hole in his heart. Then he tried to kill himself, only to find himself in Midgard, with a chance to be better. I am only sad that Thor never did get a chance to make up with his family.
I'm torn. On one hand, I would LOVE to see Thor drag himself outta hell like Kratos BUT not out of a need for vengeance. But love for his family and sheer fucking will to be a better father. On the other. This was a beautifully tragic death. Thor finally became the man he always could have been.
I really appreciate how much Freya showed up for this fight. Her absolute lack of mercy was perfect. The way she snapped the ravens neck without hesitation had me so hype
The other bird got shot and a symbol appeared above the bird just as it was falling, somebody in another video said it was the luck symbol. I'm guessing it was Huginn since we know that one survived.
I feel so fucking sad about what happened to Sindri and Brok. This game takes storytelling to a whole new level. The anger and sadness in Sindri's eyes will haunt me.
@@cult_of_odin Congrats, you just dumbed down every story ever into the fact that they are all just variations of the same core concepts. Good job. Too bad the difference between a good writer and a bad one is that they can take the story and make you feel attached to what is going on *despite* the fact that nothing about it is really unique. Saying that it is "nothing that hasn't been done a hundred times" describes literally everything in fiction writing these days.
It’s rough to see him so depressed, angry, and SUPER bitter! The scleras in his eyes (the white parts) gain a red hue, and he doesn’t give a flying f**k about having a positive relationship with Kratos and Atreus anymore :(
It's a very detail but the way Mimir tells kratos to "stay in control of it" when Kratos activates spartan rage and him replying "I know" shows how much he had grown as a character for me
I think it might also refer to the 'Valor' mechanic. Which instead of making Kratos enter a limited time Rage state, it uses a bar of Rage for a single burst damage strike.
The roughest or most impacting part in this game for me is how Sindri started to behave after Brok died. It’s rough to see him so depressed, angry, and SUPER bitter! The scleras in his eyes (the white parts) gain a red hue, and he doesn’t give a flying f**k about having a positive relationship with Kratos and Atreus anymore :(
Give him time mate, Sindri will come back around, he was still willing to attack Thrud to protect Atreus, he still cares about his friends, he just needs time to properly grieve.
The dance that Odin‘s soul parts were doing were Odin‘s last desperate attempts to resist being captured, most other soul parts just drift into whatever he binds them to. His tried to fly away so hard.
When you consider how many times Kratos has been a General throughout his life, how many times those alliances ended in betrayal (either his or theirs), to the point where he was literally the only one left standing. He finally did it right this time.
The best soundtrack of the game is definitely "Ragnarok". Bear McCreary could have gone for an epic battle music for this war but he went for his heart , slowed down the tempo , no huge percussions , only strings and horns , creating a very dramatic piece which is the reality of any war. Going through the enemies killing them one by one to reach Odin , while hearing this music , you could feel deep inside that you didn't want this war to happen.
Had me believing things could change hits hard cuz Thor deep down really knows that Odin doesn’t care for him and Thor deeply wants to be better but all of Odins abuse and his guilt for what he did blinded him during the whole game and when Kratos tells Thor that he has a chance and when he finally stands up to Odin he gets killed in front of his daughter for refusing to kill for him Such a tragic character
@@kobedagoat6395 Slaughtered the giants and commited many other atrocties simply because Odin told him to, and allowed himself to be manipulated into a genocidal killer. He's a mirror of Kratos.
The final battle. Battle of the legends. Love Kratos war speech. Love the ending. Can’t wait to play this game. Odin was the one in the mural of Jötunheim dying in Atreus arms
4:13 at this minute skoll and hati joined the war at the same time as fenrrir's appearance even though they had no blood relation at all (game version) but fenrrir seemed to be a father who took his two children skoll and hati to hunt
I was worried that, with all the build up of Ragnarok, the ending battle wouldn't be able to live up to all the hype, but I was not disappointed. The final hour of this game was absolutely incredible.
The Battle of Ragnarok was pathetic. Hardly what I would call all the realms rebeling against Asgard. The constant subverting of expectations ruined what should have been the best part of the saga.
Hearing his voice crack while saying "today" had to be some of the best voice acting in the world, you really get thr since that Kratos is on the verge of a deep sadness before he says this
probably one of the best redemption arcs in videogames, from a soldier follewed by anger, seen as a monster in his own place, to a wise person followed by love and seen as a hero in the new land
3:25 Something about Kratos ordering everyone around makes me really happy for him. Must feel like a glove fitting just right him being a General of a whole army once upon a time.
Thors death was so undeserving, yet that is why it is perfect. Odin killed him for no other reason other than because Odin suddenly realised Thor would become a liability or worse, a problem to deal with. Hence he killed him on the spot and tried to blame it on anyone else so his image would be intact. This solidifies his entire character from what everyone opposing Odin has said about him, and proves that he is nothing but a villain with no redeeming qualities and thus must be stopped.
It would be better if he commanded legions of barbarian warriors against Asgard and the gods, normal humans and beings from all the other worlds against Asgard
5:40 I didn’t notice this through my first playthrough, But here in this part where we see Gna, she actually ends up killing one of the Valkyries. I thought that she merely killed a Light/Dark Elf, but when looking at the corpse a second time, it was one of the Valkyries/Shield Maidens. Man didn’t think one of them would actually get killed
Never had a game take me through so much emotions before. Happy, sad, mad, excited, nervous, fullfilling. This was the best ending ive ever played in a video game before. This game will stick out in my mind as long as I am a gamer til im old and grey. Amazing production.
This whole sequence played out like a Marvel movie or something. I’ve never seen such scale and production in a video game it was absolutely incredible to play.
One of my top 5 games of all time. The story is right on par with the amazing visuals and fun gameplay. It was over too quickly, but excited for what’s next for Kratos and Atreus.
i had so many chills and emotions running through me playing this game. the previous game to this series was my favorite but now, this takes the cake. a true masterpiece. they did it again. thank you to the developers! you all rock
Absolutely loved the characters and their story arcs as a way to wrap up the Kratos saga, the sole complaint I have being that Sindri was so distraught at losing Brok again that he is consumed by rage and utter contempt for the people he called friends mere days or even hours before.
Just like real life. People don't just move on and forgive you every single time. Sometimes they'll blame you for the death of their loved ones and not accept your apology. I'm glad they did it like that to show that you can't always mend broken bridges. Sometimes they stay broken. I think in sindris case he's upset at himself more than Kratos and atreus because he's the one that couldn't fish out all of of Broks souls. Atreus is just his failure being shown to him in physical form. I'm sure sindri will eventually move on and forgive himself and atreus, but he may also just as likely end up never being able to let go. Just like real people who aren't able to let go either.
Despite his anger at Atreus he was still willing to protect him, like that scene with Thrud. Wouldn't it have been funny if he would have hit her sword with that hammer and actually broke it.
It's mainly his fault Brok died. He was already dead, he shouldn't have tried to get his soul. He knows he is the reason Brok doesn't even have an after life, so he's lashing out and blaming Atreus and Kratos for bringing Odin into his home. But everyone was fooled, him included. The line where he says he gave and they kept taking is true, except for the fact that he's looking at it after Broks death. Of course you'd give for your friends - your family. He can't process what happened, and he never got over Brok's death the first time, either. There's a chance he might come around if we ever see him again, but that kind of shit will ruin you forever unless you process it properly.
This may be an unpopular opinion, while the battle was great and spectacular, I feel a little bit underwhelmed. Where was the army of hel? Jormungandr was only in this for barely any time, and there were no great armies on screen. It would have been awesome to see Kratos actually commanding somewhat of an army, seen actual armies fighting, tougher enemies, etc. This segment was great, but it seemed rushed, trying to fit in as many characters as possible in a little timeframe, only giving them a couple of seconds to a minute or two of seeing them in their glory that they deserve. Asgard itself was underwhelming as well, it seemed more of a Midgardian village than a kingdom of the gods.
I could agree, they could hVe showed more. They went with how the characters planned it. Sneak in attack the flaw in the wall while the armies fought. The game was "filmed" over the shoulder so yea we get the perspective of them literally jusy doing the mission
@Xylus that was the point tho, you’re just missing it. The point of the game was the show the difference between the Norse and the Olympic gods, every god had Zeus’ back, the only gods who had odins were Thor and heimdall in this game. It wasn’t meant to be a war of gods between gods, but everyone against Odin.
Odin's plan to stop Ragnarok from attacking Asgard was to have the dwarves build those war machines that could destroy the realm towers. When you first visit Asgard you notice that Tyr's temple is sunk and demolished and that was an attempt by Odin to prevent Realm Travel to Asgard. Once he realized that the dwarves had built another way to forcing realm travel he knew that the machines would be needed to destroy the towers themselves. Odin knew that the story of Ragnarok told to him was that all realms would be destroyed, he attempted to save Asgard for himself and only himself. Odin only cared about himself in the end and he used others to get what he wanted. However we see that the real story of Ragnarok the one not told to Odin was that only the gods would fall, due to their egos.
Yeah imagine a Thor and Jormungandr fight where Kratos is accidentally thrown into the middle or a part where you are on Hrimthurs wall and watch as all the armies rush into Asgard. Imagine if, because all Surtr had was sinmaras heart, he was just a more powerful version of himself. That would look so much cooler.
This whole mission was epic. Up there with "on your left" from End Game. I didn't want it to end but We should've had more brutal enemies to fight like 8 dragons at once or battle through a literal army of 10000 foes. Even on give me God of war it felt easy.
Freyr also died in the Norse mythology by the hands of Surtr too only difference in this case he was stopping the sword from blowing the whole place up so people have time to escape. If he let go a second early, everyone would have been dead
he try to hold back Surtr sword from destroying Asgard when other still there, just from one thrust of his sword, Asgard gonna get destroyed immediately, thats why Freyr try to stopping it, since if he didn't, all of them would died immediately from the explosion Surtr caused when he thrust his sword into Asgard's core.
Wish we got more of a "swathe of armies moving against each other" and more focus on Thor's battle with Jormungandr. Also the very rushed truce in Alfheim really needed flashing out.
I think it would of been cooler if surtr come to Asgard in he’s normal form fighting alongside kratos hoping to defeat Odin without dying so he could be with he’s love again but asgards army’s are overwhelming kratos’s army and as a last minute desperation surtr realises that the prophecy is the only way so he sacrifices himself and tells kratos to activate ragnarok i just feel like we didn’t see enough of him
I think it’s be cool if the elves and hel walkers were actual NPC Allie’s that assisted in battle against the Einjehar. In Ghost of Sparta, that are certain levels where you fight alongside fellow Spartan warriors against Poseidon’s warriors.
You know when you think about it. If they hadn’t brought Ragnarok, they wouldn’t have been able to get past the wall in the first place. Because Surtr brought such a big distraction for Asgard to deal with. It allowed everyone else to get to Odin. When KRATOS realises that innocent live in the realm, he wants to prevent it being destroyed because of what Faye has been trying to tell him. He tells Atreus that he was wrong and to open his heart to all the suffering and pain, not just because that’s who his son is but because they know the only way to avert fate is to be better. To a make DIFFERENT choice, to choose a BETTER way. IMO
This battle and ending to such an AMAZING story, really give me so many chills and choked me up a bit. This was an experience that I received when I first Infinity War and Endgame for the first time on opening night. Having played every GOW game, Ragnarok is truly for me the BEST one in the series and the best PlayStation game this entire decade.....Standing ovation to SMS and Playstation for giving us this true masterpiece of a game and story!!
For a being that has lived nigh forever, such as Odin, it understandable to see mortals and even lesser Gods merely just “numbers that exist for a time; their number increasing and decreasing”. Seeing a glimpse of something that “comes after all this” would no doubt be an irresistible urge. It might have not affected his actions at first, but as long as an undying deity live, it eventually will and increasingly so.
I think thor deep down know that odin is wrong, but he denied it, because if he agree that odin is wrong, make his action murdering all of giant also wrong, that why when he said "do you know what ive done" he sounded like someone who feeling guilty, can you imagine how thor feel? Killing all of your people for pleasing your shitty father, and your father still threat you like a shit?
Yea he even says to Odin “ I just didn’t wanna see it” he knew deep down Odin didn’t care for him he just didn’t want to accept it like he’s scared to admit it in front of Odin cuz he knows what he’s capable of or maybe he did all of the things he did to please Odin but Odin still didn’t see him as his son he still saw his own son as a destroyer Odins a bastard yea but he had a lot of a potential to be a good father and a good ruler but he chose to miunuplate everyone around him and he also killed Brok and killed Thor and almost killed Thrùd he’s the reason why Mimir is decaptiaed and he tricked us into thinking he was Tÿr he said he was Tÿr was dead but he wasn’t he bounded Freya to Midgard just cuz she wouldn’t help him learn his magic he sent Magni and Modi to their deaths and he’s the reason why Brok is dead and he’s the reason why Sindri is so bitter and angry and he’s the reason why Thor is dead and he’s the reason why literally no one likes him
They did a real good job with his storyline. And yeah, he's done with everything. You can feel his hatred boiling, compounded by his torment and how he may never forgive himself for what he did.
In this final battle when Atreus/Loki runs into Thrud and Thrud hits Atreus on the head Sindri with no hesitation was going to attack and u can hear the anger in his voice just when he was about to do it and maybe that proves Sindri on the inside cares for Atreus more than anyone besides Brok obviously but u know
When Kratos tells Atreus to feel their suffering, I can’t help but feel like Kratos noticed that, if Atreus did close his heart, he would become like young Kratos.
@ 11:43 Why do I get the feeling Sindri deliberately killed those Midgardians on purpose. Think about it; Atreus unintentionally used Sindri for his own goals which resulted in needless death. To teach him a lesson, Sindri knew there would be innocent casualties during this battle even so he made it seem that Atreus, and by extension Kratos, used Sindri again to help in their own goal and resulted in the death of more innocent people. Damn Sindri! He has gone down a spiral of uncontrollable rage and hate, which is kinda scary.
"I do not want this war" yet it feels the only important war Kratos has had. first time he took on the role of a general and not a soldier. a true "god of war" good writing is good writing.
Oh woah just realized, Kratos has Mimir behind him who is known for knowledge and Loki/Atreus has a mask capable of all knowledge when he falls at 42:30. Interesting!
Seeing Elves, the Dead, the Vanir, Giants and Gods all united for one last do-or-die, all-in apocalyptic Battle Royale against Asgard will go down in gaming history as legendary
It's very slight but right before Odin appears, Thor nods to Kratos. I thought for sure he was going to join the fight against Odin, what came next was not what I expected. But in retrospect, it kinda makes sense. I mean, Odin would stand no chance against Kratos and Thor together, especially with support from Freya & Atreus.
Here we are again, the jazzy intro letting me know I am about to watch a GoW movie tonight lmao. Random observations no one asked for: - Atreus's "never mind, later" when he realized it wasn't the time to tell a story, and Freya waiting for him to come to that realization before she got back to war talk - My favorite part: "Atreus and I will be enough." Atreus just looks at her like 'yep, I'm part giant chosen one/part Kratos, and he is actually Kratos." - Darth Sindri is so cool but he just breaks your heart. His whole charismatic personality died with his brother. - Atreus's controlled bear form is like the first encounter with Grey Hulk. He might be as strong as his dad in that form (not to say he'd overcome a thousand years of fighting against foes that were supposed to be stronger than him). - Thrud has the same "godlike" speed as her father. I thought it was just innate stealth when he scared Odin earlier ("Don't DO that!"), but I think that both Thor and Thruud are just so fast that they can see a destination and get there like they snuck up. I say this because Thor clearly wasn't behind Odin until he summoned him and Thor was probably right outside and whooshed to his side like "what?" Thrud is right behind Atreus even though the camera showed her exact approach angle moments before, meaning she wasn't sneaking, she was just watching across the way and ran up faster than he could get his defenses up. Lightning speed. - The only thing that could kill Thor is misplaced trust in his father. Not even Kratos stood a chance. - I love how this whole war was people saying to Odin "Hey pops, you're doing too much."
I do agree about Sindri, the sorta dark and broody vibe made him pretty badass during Ragnarok. It is sad to see though, I miss the old Sindri. But it's also interesting how like, he cares, but also doesn't care. Like he cares enough to actually show up, but little enough that once his job is done, he just f's off.
I feel like when sindri said "what you want a thank you?" when they were both quiet was completely unnecessary. i get it he's broken for what happened, but he making the wounds even get deeper for each other
I won’t lie, I got extremely sad when the ship from Hel got destroyed. I remember being so hyped to see Hel-Walkers in battle and when I heard their chanting when they came in, only for all that to immediately be destroyed by the einherjar lmao
In an alternative timeline where Kratos never met Feya and is still as fury as in gow 3, I can see him on Ragnaröks back shouting "ODIN! I AM RETURNED AND BRING DESTRUCTION OVER ASGARD!"
13:00 Kratos spent most of his life destroying places of power and bringing down Deities of great legend. Now, this is the only time he fought for something that benefits other people. The most important one is his son Atreus who benefits from this.
I was kind of dissapointed by this final battle it was too short with half the battle being emotional cutscenes and rest of it being to very mediocre boss fights, maybe they ran out of budget or something lol
No matter how many times ive wated kratos & thor fight its always so damn badass to see kratos snatch his hammer from him with his blades & swing it at him!
I think it's quite fitting that Sindri gave Odin essentially the same afterlife that Sindri himself accidentally gave Brok, minus the whole incomplete soul thing. There's nothing of Odin to bring back now, he's basically been deleted from existence. He won't be able to show up in visions like Brok, he can't go to Valhalla and then try to sneak out, he's just gone
@@rathzo1800 I mean maybe, but he wouldn't have been able to stay hidden and quiet if he did survive somehow. the difference that Olympian Gods got corrupted, thats why they see Kratos as a Threat when Kratos just want Zeus die, and Kratos come along with Titans also make they see Kratos as enemy, thats why they back up Zeus, even tho its just 'temporary'.
on Norse case, most of Gods knew that Odin are beyond assholes and they did not get corrupted, only a few like Heimdall who keep licking Odin's dirty feet.

He had to die to give justice to Brok’s death. Also Kratos tried his best to make him see reason. He also knew one of them had to die. Can’t have two destroyers in the same realm.
However he did die a changed god. He saw reason and left his trust and will to Kratos and Atreus
Odin is pure evil
And ironically, despite it costing his life, Thor finally found that peace.

Something about Kratos ordering everyone around makes me really happy for him.
Hearing Kratos yell move forward and leading everyone into battle, WITH the music in the background? Fucking perfection
It would be better if he commanded legions of barbarian warriors against Asgard and the gods, normal humans and beings from all the other worlds against Asgard

@@derekrulez390527Couldn't have said it better myself.
I believe the army of hel never made it to battle due to the helheim realm tower getting wrecked
With the events of God of War 1,2, and 3. Ragnarok was just a spa day for Kratos.
Random observations no one asked for:
- Atreus's "never mind, later" when he realized it wasn't the time to tell a story, and Freya waiting for him to come to that realization before she got back to war talk
- My favorite part: "Atreus and I will be enough." Atreus just looks at her like 'yep, I'm part giant chosen one/part Kratos, and he is actually Kratos."
- Darth Sindri is so cool but he just breaks your heart.
Odin: you turned them against me?!
Kratos: you have done that yourself
I feel like when sindri said "what you want a thank you?" when they were both quiet was completely unnecessary. i get it he's broken for what happened, but he making the wounds even get deeper for each other
Still sad that Thor didn't join the fight against Odin. I also hoped Odin had more stages, more power.
48:36 that little bit of Raebs Lament that plays tugs at the heartstrings
Is it me or when Kratos blow the gjallerhorn the first few notes on the music sounded like the portal scene from endgame
Same. The goosebumps I had were crazy
When kratos says to his son today we will be better the music touches my soul 😭 anyone know what’s the name of that music ?
I won’t lie, I got extremely sad when the ship from Hel got destroyed. I remember being so hyped to see Hel-Walkers in battle and when I heard their chanting when they came in, only for all that to immediately be destroyed by the einherjar lmao
Odin"we could've learn the truth!"
Col. Jessup"you can't handle the truth"
In an alternative timeline where Kratos never met Feya and is still as fury as in gow 3, I can see him on Ragnaröks back shouting "ODIN! I AM RETURNED AND BRING DESTRUCTION OVER ASGARD!"
god the soundtrack is just so beautiful
The God of Soundtracks
This scene is very powerful and Oscar Worthy!!!!!
Did that hammer hit thor?
Like I didn't get there ,what happened
@@vinaychandra10 it did. Nothing happened tho
44:01 had me dying LMAO
weak ass scream
Look like baby angry
DAaAaAaAAaAaAaAaAaAaAa
That weak grampa yell UUUUUUUHHHHHHHH
I think it's quite fitting that Sindri gave Odin essentially the same afterlife that Sindri himself accidentally gave Brok, minus the whole incomplete soul thing. There's nothing of Odin to bring back now, he's basically been deleted from existence. He won't be able to show up in visions like Brok, he can't go to Valhalla and then try to sneak out, he's just gone
Higher plane ? Everything is possible
@@rathzo1800 I mean maybe, but he wouldn't have been able to stay hidden and quiet if he did survive somehow. He'd try to take control of the Einherjar somehow or he'd galvanize the Midgaardians to his side like Freya did when she told them Kratos was to blame for Fimbulwinter, he'd come back somehow. I think when his soul is floating about after leaving his body, it looks like it's trying to run away somehow but it can't and gets sucked into the soul gem thing (I don't remember what it's called), implying that he can't escape his fate in the end
