Want You Gone - Frank Sinatra Big Band Swing Version (The 8-Bit Big Band)

- We're back with another incredible piece from the Portal series, here's "Want You Gone" totally reimagined in the style of Frank Sinatra's arrangement of "I've Got You Under my Skin" (originally arranged by the great Nelson Riddle), and sung by the amazing singer/trumpet player Benny Benack III.
It's a testament to great song writing when your lyrics and melody can function in an entirely different context like this, so huge thanks to Jonathan Coulton for this great piece of music!
This song and more coming soon to our 3rd album "Backwards Compatible" but in the mean time

Guess now I just gotta do "You Wouldn't Know" from Lego Dimensions and the Sinatra/GLaDOS trilogy is complete!
I just want more Sinatra-esque covers.
Please do! Take your time, do it right by the song and your reputation, but if it comes out I'll be sure to buy it.
You don't haaaave to.....but it would be pretty cool
I think there is another Glados Song, not used in the game, named "Don't say goodbye". It can be another great idea, but take your time ! We can wait !
Honestly, I find You Wouldn't Know to be a perfect topper to the trifecta of GLaDOS songs!
I honestly did not know how you guys were going to pull this one off. They original arrangement does not really lend itself to the swing style. You guys showed me that it can be done!
Definitely took a while for me to concoct this! But that bass line from the original swung kinda reminded me of the bass clarinet line from "I've Got You Under My Skin" Sinatra so once I had that idea it just took off from there
I was thinking the same thing man, not at all disappointed with the result, Charlie Rosen and the rest of the band, you are absolute legends, thank you for your amazing performances
@@The8BitBigBand amazing... can you please give us a master class on arranging? I feel like there’s a gold mine in your brain
The funny thing is, if you go back and listen to Sinatra's songs, many of them have a similar tone to this song.
Perhaps the clue you all are looking for is in the Title? i.e. The Frank Sinatra Orchestra?
There is a parallel universe out there where videogames were big in the 50's and they hired Frank Sinatra to sing something like this
You totally nailed my head canon for this arrangement haha
@@The8BitBigBandOmG
@@The8BitBigBand I heard that was also the headcanon of the developers of Cuphead, only the 30s instead of the 50s.
@miketandy6329 look up Tennis For Two. It's an actual video game from the 50s (and it isn't a Pong clone)
Bro... Frank Sinatra made this song about his Ex-Wife!!!
“The moment you’ve all been waiting for”
wait how did you comment this last week
"The one, the only..."
At first it sounded like a lotta...
@@robertcrawshaw9978 that.. what...? BUT THIS IS THE PREMIER AND- THAT'S A RICKROLL LINK..
insert intense wheezing
@@robertcrawshaw9978 no.. why
They should definitely do a "Jump Up, Super Star!" cover with this guy.
I had never thought of that before. Now I need it
looks like they already have an arrangement in the works with grace kelly instagram.com/p/CDmIl-EH1UL/?igshid=1lrlb3mylm0ts
@@BigKittyMedia Then I guess it's highly unlikely their gonna make another cover with him. I really wanted to see what it would sound like if Frank Sinatra sang something from a Mario game that had his kinda style. Thanks for the info tho.
Like maybe a jazz version I guess it would be sick though
@@luisgamercool6980 boy do I have news for you
ua-cam.com/video/UZ2-FfXZlAU/v-deo.html
Their rendition of Still Alive was amazing, so just knowing that this actually exists has made my day.
Dude totally fuckin same
I like your profile picture.
Maybe I'm just the old guy -- never played Portal, never heard of Jonathan Coulton. My grandfather called Sinatra "Frankie Sinus" back in the 1940s. Nonetheless, I'm blown away by how this arranger and the 8-Bit Band channeled the Nelson Riddle swing and sound that made Sinatra so appealing. Clever work ! Satire, homage, clever re-interpretation all in one !!
You have had 2 years to play portal, have you yet
I adore the drummer, he always gets so into it, I love how at 1:58 he appears to be acting along as though he's smacking test subjects with his drumsticks. The dude's got charisma for days, and that's saying something when you've got the singer in frame pouring liquid gold into your ears.
"We don't know if there's gonna be a Portal 3 or not!"
Something about that line just cracks me up, I love it. Great improv, great singing, and great trumpeting from Benny once again, and of course a stellar performance from the whole band! You guys are great, and I hope you're all staying safe through this crazy year.
I hope Benny secrets portal 3 into existence with that banter!!
Valve can't count to 3
@Old Acc Is this what you've been waiting for? Say 1, 2, and 4
Valve made Portal 2 10 years ago. Gabe gave up on it sadly and now I want to throw him off the statue of liberty.
@@homedepotbrick wow was playing it couple days ago and its still a beautiful game for being 10 years old
I've been struggling with depression, and one main symptom is that I don't see myself doing anything because it's useless. Then I watched this, and I thought: there are these people who make something so useless, just because it's fun and because they like doing it - and I enjoy (truly enjoy!) watching it. Maybe I should just start doing stuff again, even if there is no purpose to it.
So thank you. Thank you so much.
That is so true haha it's really such a niche thing we do, we really do it for the love of video game music and large ensemble jazz! Maybe one day this body of music will be mainstream but for now we do it for us game music fans :) thanks for listening!
5 months later, and this is still my "screw depression, I'm doing it anyways! 💪" song.
You guys saved my life in a very special way. Please, don't ever stop doing what you like because "it's useless". (Or, as my doctor put it: Fun is a valid reason, too.)
Well that's nice to hear
@@The8BitBigBand lol y'all won grammy since posting this - i guess its not just for game music fans :) congrats!
Sisyphus moment
The passive agressiveness is SO real
Gotta love that one Salamanca brother on the drums
Lol
Now is it time to start requesting "You wouldn't know" from Lego Dimensions? That was also sung by Glados!
And it was written by the same guy, so it’s official!
Will check it out!!
Yay!! :D
Was about to suggest the same song :)
What about the "deleted" glados song?
なんだ!この素敵なアレンジ😭
CD欲しい!!!
This sound like Olive Garden music
That's a compliment
Every byte of information was perfectly placed to create this wonderful animation and song, thank you for this, when i heard the original i cried, just cried again, again, thank you
Crazy how this and still alive came out in 2011 and 2007 respectively and your jazz covers way more recently and yet it sounds like a song made a century ago.
Benny can sing higher and lower than me and I don’t like it
Its really just not fair tbh
E2-A4 for anyone interested
@@fletcherclark9255 gosh that is one long range...
@@franksonatra Hehe well I don't wanna spoil anyone's party because Benny sings with that range beautifully, but I thought it'd be worth mentioning my range of which goes more or less A0-A5
@@nzcroc1229 i bet you use subharmonics and growls for the last octave
My buddy is a drummer and has the same exact faces as this drummer. Priceless.
I felt in llove with all of u on this video, the atention in the animations is beutifull too
That little lick on the way out absolutely slays holy shit
This channel is criminally underrated!
It is terrible underrated
FINALLY!! Really hyped up for this. Loved your take on Still Alive
It's like if Bobby Darin was fed up with someone, and I LOVE THIS.
This singers range and tone combine with the band to make an immaculate cover. Keep up the amazing work.
The potato animation is on POINT!!
Animator here. Thank you! It was quite challenging to make a cycloptic potato be so sassy.
I love that detail with the strider
Love to think about Chell outrunning Combine Soldiers after leaving Aperture.
great work as always... but that long "gone" at 3:20 NOT jumping to a high A is such a blue-baller!
Just as beautiful as still alive. Bravo.
This definitely gives off “man who’s just found out that he’s a father and has been tormenting his daughter for years on end and now wants to get her as far away from him as possible to stop himself hurting her anymore” vibes
I've been listening to "Stay Alive" almost everyday and always asking when this is comming out!
Amazing! keep the great work
After going through the game and watching enough movies with jazz music in them to become a full fledged musically inclined alligator, I would like to say that this is a total BOP. it gives me and end credits song feel in a good comedy reeling. Sarcastic and witty remarks, a hilarious story and superb characterisation and overall great music? I’m more deeply surprised that it’s somehow *not* in a movie.
The last thing I feel needs to be said, is that everyone here wishes they could be like you, you magnificent bastard.
I'm awaiting for when people start demanding a cover of You Wouldn't Know from the LEGO Dimensions Portal storyline.
@@ravenpaw3383 Oh, just saw they made a comment about that!
This brings back so many memories
the animation is also fuckin amazing the band so fuckin good and then Benny so beautiful all of this. look this video good like really good like holy fuck oh god yes more
Amazing! The graphic of Chell running from a Strider is hilarious
You guys are so criminally underreated, not only is the video well edited but there is even animartion
This thing finally got 1 million very deserved views
It feels like a break up and move on from love song. I love this 😂❤
I'm definitely playing this song at my graduation ceremony.
"Well here we are again"
And oh how we've waited!
This is so much fun to sing because they are so nice 😄 (also you guys got me into portal)
Join us join us join us join us
these guys know their game lore. Very much appreciated!
I want the instrumental of this so bad!! I love the Sinatra rendition of this so much more than OG (which is quite the statement with OG as good as it is)
Honestly, you guys managed to blow this out of the park. This was fantastic to listen to, and the animations were totally awesome too!
Wow. I´d take this over moon rocks every day. All thumbs up!
This is the channel I knew I needed
Thank you guys!
When you pick up Aperture on the radio in Fallout...
Been waiting for this, thanks for the cover!

Menacing P O T A T O
kinda the music where i would love to take some friends into a bar and just get some drinks and enjoy the music
This is a gem.
cutest representation of Chell I've ever seen
2 words that will always make me cry: Portal 3
I love how this one sounds like the credits roll of a Pixar movie.
Awesome work :D
The fist one STILL cracks me up... this one nearly asphyxiated me. XD
that "wasnt laughing." WAS JUST HILLARIOUS
and i dont know why
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! After so long, HERE WE ARE AGAIN!! I don't want this song gone, that's for sure!
Had to come back to this gem on Portal 2’s 10nth anniversary. Amazing work; huge success.
As someone who enjoys Sinatra, thank you!
This gives off gigantic Christmas vibes and I love it
Now it's time for You Wouldn't Know!!!
Guy, it is best video that I ever seen on UA-cam. You are the best
Probably my most listened to video finally got its sequel
for some reason, it's just now, 2 years after this video came out, 4 years after i beat the game, and 11 fucking years after the game was released, that i noticed a lot of the lyrics are actually directed to caroline, especially the "did you think i meant you" and "when i delete you", and now i'm shivering really hard, lmao.
HUGE
It's so mean but so catchy.
Thank you for a perfect sequel to Still Alive.
This is a masterpiece! Thank you!
Glados' songs in the form of Frank Sinatra has to be just about the most Portal thing ever. Incredible performance!
boy i like got me onto this song... nice.
this is song is kinda creepy without context.
This is amazing! Portal and Frank Sinatra. Epic Success!
I love how this makes the song 2x times snarkier
This was a triumph. I'm being so sincere right now.
When I first heard this song, I thought it was the best break up song I ever heard and this version proves to me that I was right. Brilliant rendition!
GLaDOS' vocal songs are always such a great way to end the Portal games on.
Keep on stayin' awesome!
This performance oozed so much personality, dope arrangement & great work everyone!
Yo I'm just casually listening to their Still Alive cover, saw this in my recommendations, and was like "oh they have a cover for "Want You Gone" AND REALIZE IT WAS POSTED YESTERDAY LIKE ????? DAMNN
i LOVE the vocals!! another fantastic trumpet solo and just a great video in general 🤩
Beautiful ❤
Given Sinatra's Mob connections it's chillingly plausible.
Man, i'm imagining Wheatley is the one singing and the turrets orchestra are the one doing the instrumentals
Que canción tan más buena, se nota la dedicación, tanto la animación como la música, unas cosas muy bonitas.
Felicitaciones!!
Legitimately hyped to watch this
This is just wow, impressive
SO GOOD, More please!
I love that the drummer looks like he's from a metal band
I love this too much
Can't wait for the album!
This is pure gold
YES!!! That awesome!1 I wasn't expecting to see this today but OH YEAH!!
Ok, that was pretty good. Switching it to a jazz theme in a late night show was pretty genius
gotta say, the animations on this one are one of the best, super creative and serve the music well!!
I like the strider, thanks for that
everyone is talking about the music but no one is paying attention to the superb animation (rhyme intended)
Animator here. I'm glad you liked it!
@@TaylorRussell_TheAnimator you did a great job
This is amazing work and just really fits well with the Portal 2 aesthetic for some reason
when i say i need this on apple music asap.... 👁👁🤲 i am waiting respectfully
Really great job, super fun
PotatOs in a hat is something I didn't know I needed.
I made the weirdest noise when I saw this notification... I am so happy!
Love the visuals
