- 08.15.2021 | 11:45 PM | LOS ANGELES - Just before midnight, LAPD received a call of a woman armed with a machete. Officers arrived on scene and located the female suspect with a large machete. At least one non-lethal round was shot at the suspect. The suspect refused to surrender to LAPD, leading to a long standoff. The woman was seen taunting officers by doing pushups and walking around. The woman was seen waving her knife towards civilians and officers in an aggressive manner at times. The woman waved the machete around, but never approached officers. Crisis negotiators were called to the scene. Officers eventually took the female into custody at approximately 3:15 am.

She may have served in the military from some of her actions and may be suffering with ptsd. Vets need help when they come home, things don’t always show up right away, but the fact that she is on skid row says that she definitely needs help.

I worked with a Vietnam Vet over 30 years ago. He had been fired from previous jobs numerous times. Sadly we had to let him go because he hit two city workers on a ladder with his car while making a delivery and wrecked his car. I was asked to drive him to the train station and he said 'I don't know why I do things at times." He was a nice person to deal with, but he had demons that he couldn't control. Hope he got the help he needed.

There's no help here. This country is the only one I can speak for. But we are not providing adequate care for any mental health needs. They are being tossed back out with only the option of heavy meds with even heavier side effects. No actual care. Unless you're rich. Wealth=health.

They are homeless. Hungry. Addicted. Our heros do NOT deserve a life like that at all. I really want to commend the officers, they handled that situation perfectly. They didn't make her feel intimidated or curse her like most do because they hate their jobs. Great training where ever this is they did a very good job!

Guns should not be drawn on a person experiencing a mental health crisis. She didn't have a gun and wasn't waiving the machete at anyone. This is a prime example of what needs to be addressed in law enforcement across the country.
