@tkzt1 That's a great question I wish I had an answer to. Ours vents to the outside so we don't have more than the screen filter on the bottom. I'd be guessing if I tried to tell you. Sorry, wish I could help.
Also, I am getting a bit scared by people talking about the capacitor in the microwave oven which is very powerful, and stores electricity. How do I avoid touching that when changing the switch?
I believe one of the switches in the three switch panel controls the light. You can purchase the switch panel with all three switches together for slightly more than the two switch pack they send out. If that doesn't work, try replacing the bulb. Good Luck. Let me know what works.
Hey John! Awesome video. Question: When you took off that top silver vent face plate piece in the beginning, on the left hand side there’s this circular motor that spins. On ours that thing will randomly spin on its own and the face plate fell off. The spinning motor makes one rotation and then gets unseated and then it keeps spinning and gets seated again. Any idea what could be causing this? It will randomly do it throughout the day.
Hi Moses, Thanks for watching! On your motor that opens the vent, the motor has a sensor in it to know when it supposed to stop cycling. There is a microswitch next to it that senses the position. It could be a number of things, the switch isn't working properly, the switch and motor are loose and the switch is sensing it needs to close the door by cycling, or the motor and cam are loose or misaligned. Might take the cover off and play with the switch, cam and motor to see if you can replicate the problem manually to determine what you need. Sorry I can't be of more help but I hope this gets you started. Let me know what you find. Good Luck!
@@strayhound61 No that's actually perfect I think you got it. The front is zip tied on (previous owners) and I highly suspect it's loose and the motor is thinking it's open so it's constantly trying to close it. I also learned the technical name is vent door. So the vent door is continuously opening and closing after use but I suspect it's what you said about it not being latched. Thanks a lot man I really appreciate the response and your time.
John, I have the exact same microwave as you with the exact same problem. Glad you posted this video. My problem though is that I can not find a model number anywhere (tag on the left of the microwave was removed on mine). I just want to order the switches but cant find the part. Do you have the model number for that microwave? or if not, the part number for the switches? Thanks, Doug
@@strayhound61 you the man. My tag got ripped of somehow... I'm lucky you made this video to 1. Tell me how to fix it, & 2. Find me the model number... Thanks again!
Awesome microwave vid fix! 🤙🏼... I have a Maytag, my issue is the vent (blower?) fan suddenly came on and will not shut off, all panel buttons work ‘except’ the vent buttons & light on/off buttons (They stopped working while back as the blower fan wouldn’t come on I have unplugged for lengthy time, as let it run for a lengthy time I was not using the oven, therefore no heat to cause this .. 🤷🏼♀️ any thoughts of what to chk on the inside, I had it apart, but had no inclination what to check .. (A year later, hope you’ll see this🤞🏼) Thanks in advance, Have a super day! 😊
Not really sure. There is a thermostat that turns the fan on when it gets too hot from cooking on the stove. Perhaps you can find the thermostat and try to disconnect it to see if that turns the fan off. Otherwise, it could be the control panel, which too can be replaced, but honestly without testing it, it's har do say for sure. Good luck!
@@strayhound61 Thank you kindly for responding John! 👍🏼 Ok, I’ll 1st try the thermostat and see if I can disconnect ... I wasn’t using the stove .. but can understand how thermostats can become faulty ... if not this, I do have a tester ... I’m relatively savvy, but not quite enough to know what parts I test? (I do have all unplugged, & would be very careful knowing there could still be power)
Probably because the three switches that engage while the door is opening position, may not do so all at the same time if you open it slowly. If it's doing that when you open the door normally, it is probable that one is going bad but still works intermittently. Ours did that in the beginning before it failed completely.
The list of things I've completed is pretty long and getting longer all the time. What I don't understand is why the to-do-list is getting longer also???? Sorry, no bus stuff this time, My greatest hit recently has been the Harbor Freight trailer because I attached it to the Harbor Freight sight. Guess more people own them than buses. They don't know what they're missing!

LOL, they make a round slide button that you can slide through the parts you don't want to watch or hear. Put your mouse pointer over the red line on the bottom and the round spot will appear at the end of the red line. Put the mouse arrow over the circle, press and hold the left button down, now slide it to the right to the parts you want to watch and hear. You helped me out with my microwave just now, thanks!
Happy to help!
Thank you for doing this!!! Had the same issue and fixed it in less than 30 min. I actually reused the switch and just cleaned off the contacts.
Glad to know it was helpful. Taking those switches apart and getting them back together isn't easy, I tried it without success. Good for you!

It's no where near the switches. I'm not sure you can even get to it without taking off other panels inside the oven area.
My GE microwave has the fan come on just by closing the door and no internal light. Any ideas? Thc

Try doing a Google search on your model number and see if you can find the thermostatic switch in the parts diagram.
