  • We’re in Croton-on-Hudson, New York visiting the Neumann House designed by Marcel Breuer. The Bauhaus inspired home was originally commissioned in 1953 by Breuer’s friend Vera Neumann, who was an influential fashion designer. The exterior of the modern home uses pops of primary colors. Within its walls, the home contains many great mid-century and neutral finishes. The fashionable and unique home also showcases two front doors, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, and a peaceful view overlooking the Hudson River.

It gave me goosebumps. Next to Auldbrass Plantation, this might be my favorite house.

I love MCM architecture, but there is something about this one, I just am not getting that "love vibe". Anyone else?

It’s beautiful. I collect Vera scarves, so it was interesting to see where she created and lived.
MCM style is all about letting the outdoors in, and this house does it beautifully. I can’t imagine anybody not liking it, but apparently they exist!
For those who are iffy about this particular home, (@henry Hobson) I’ll bet it’s the floors that are bothering you. They do seem a bit out of place to me, but necessary to keep what was originally created. If I could afford this house and a re-do, I’d have kept the original too, although my preference would have been something else. The various colors in the slate with the white grout is a hiccup to me.
I do find it funny that Vera, whose art is so full of brilliant color, lived in a minimalist home, although I know she was a mid-century trend-setter and lived bauhous, and the craft details are evident. I’d love to see how she had decorated it when she lived there though, I bet there was more color.
Parents all over the world are jealous about separate entrances!

You were spot on about the grout. Feels much more primitive and romantic to me.
Might sound odd but it almost feels like there's too many valuable art pieces to feel human.
