There's a big superstition surrounding this whole story too. Back in 2012, São Paulo faced Tigre from Argentina for the Sudamericana finals, it was a two-legged game. First game ended 0-0, and on the second leg, São Paulo was winning 2-0 up until halftime, but there was a fight between São Paulo and Tigre players in the field, it subsidized and both teams went to their changing rooms. Before the second half was about to start, São Paulo's team returned to the pitch... but Tigre's players didn't, they waited a solid 30 minutes (If I recall correctly) and no sign of Tigre, so the match ended right there with São Paulo winning by W.O, becoming the 2012 Sudamericana champions... aaaand that's pretty much where their mediocrity began, everyone was joking that São Paulo got "cursed" for not playing the second half with Tigre. Fast forward to the 2023 Sudamericana, São Paulo was in the same group as... you guessed it, Tigre. The two teams did their job and played the full match, and with this full match the "curse" was broken, São Paulo went to win their first major title in years, that is, their first ever Copa do Brasil against Flamengo (which Flamengo's side has also a pretty funny and sad story of their own) and the Supercopa Rei. I'm not usually superstitious but this whole coincidence is hilarious.
Just to add my 2 cents... both 2023 games against Tigre ended 2-0, the same score as the Sudamericana final in 2012.

You gotta tell the story of Sao Paulo's coach, Dorival Junior, who beat Flamengo exactly one year after being ditched (by Flamengo) without an explanation, even through he had just won a Libertadores and Copa do Brasil with Flamengo in the same year 🤷♂️😂😂😂😂 well, as it turned out Sao Paulo hired him and they beat Flamengo in the Copa do Brasil 2023 finals

Brazilian teams that participated in Copa Libertadores(South America Champions League), couldn't participate in Copa Do Brasil(Brazil Domestic Cup) for some time.
I think from 2001 to 2012, which made the competition very fragile, and led to some underdogs winning it, like Santo André in 2004, and Paulista in 2005.
Those years were the prime São Paulo years, which got in their way and helped for such a long delay to win it.

Sao Paulo supporter here, I'm so glad the club is getting back to winning ways after years and years of being the subject of jokes from other clubs supporters. I never saw Sao Paulo become world champion, Brazilian champion or the like, because I'm still pretty young. My father wanted me to support this club before I was born and it's paying off

It's so weird seeing my team being covered by anyone else other than Brazilian media, but I can only thank you for doing so.
I say that because São Paulo not only are one of the most successful teams worldwide (as said in this video, it has won everything, and it has more club WC titles than many European giants), it has produced so many talents (Kaká, Denilson, Ceni, Casemiro, Oscar, to name a few), and yet, a very small portion of the Football media even mention it as a big team, it's sad, the team deserve better, and not because I'm a supporter, very few teams deserve the recognition as a big team as São Paulo worldwide, so I pretty much thank you for giving us, the supporters, this small but greatly appreciated gesture.

Here in Brazil, the only two clubs I see getting near São Paulo's greatness are Flamengo and Santos, they already where the Brazilian team with the most international titles, and now are Champions of EVERYTHING, it's an insane status here, thank God my team isn't their rival, it must be annoying having such a giant as your enemy, even though my club is fairly big itself 😆

Gonna to be honest, when São Paulo won the Copa do Brasil, at that time we knew that the time had achieved everything possible here in South America. We knew that, with the only title that was missing, we officially became the biggest team in Brazil. Supercopa it was an additional trophies, awesome to win, but just as a cherry above the cake.
Correction: Corinthians is not the only club in Brazil to have won the Club World Cup twice, São Paulo are the leading title holders having won it 3 times, Santos has also won the Club WC twice, both times being with pele, also São paulos comeback to relevancy just isn’t talked about enough, their last major title was in 2012 (sul-americana), and for the past 10 years they’ve been the target for absolute banter up until 2023, great video bro👏👏

In 2017, FIFA recognized all the teams that had played the Intercontinental Cup between 1960 and 2004 as world champions.
Corinthians won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2000 without having won Copa Libertadores da América. They were invited to participate and won the cup.
Fun fact: the squads that won the five FIFA World Cups had at least one São Paulo player and one Palmeiras player in them.

Could you make a video about the "Tigre's Curse". It's a superstition that says that the Tigre team cursed São Paulo, which after that went from 2013 to 2020 without winning titles, and from 2013 to 2022 without winning major titles(They had the 2021 state cup, but no national or continental tournament )
As far as winning goes, there's not much bigger clubs in Brazil than São Paulo, in my opinion as a supporter SPFC, Flamengo and Palmeiras are the 3 clubs with an argument to be the greatest in the nation.
Palmeiras being the biggest national champion
São Paulo being the biggest international champion
Flamengo being amongst the biggest champions and one of the largest fan bases in the world
But Palmeiras, despite by far the biggest champions, still miss a couple trophies in their case, and also with their 2 relegations, i believe come a little behind.
São Paulo, besides the full trophy case, has a very positive record against all the big 12 (besides rivals Corinthians), but holds a large advantage against especially Palmeiras(17-5 record in elimination matches) and Flamengo(over 10 win advantage in total) in their history. I believe they are still the no1 in the country.

An important detail is that São Paulo FC had not yet won the Copa do Brasil title because there was a bizarre rule in the competition where only clubs that did not compete in the Copa Libertadores da América during the season participated, and this meant that the best the club's teams never competed in the Copa do Brasil. São Paulo FC did not compete in the competition for 12 consecutive years. São Paulo FC is the only team to win 3 consecutive Brazilian Championship titles (2006-2008) and this team would certainly win at least one cup title. Another detail is that the Brazilian Super Cup only contains 7 editions, which also contributes to the fact that São Paulo FC has not yet won.

In it's most glorious days São Paulo was known as "The Sovereign". No other club in Brazil has so many international titles aswell all the domestic titles. Now São Paulo Futebol Clube is known as "Campeão de Tudo" or "The Champion of Everything". All hail The Sovereign!

'm a Brazilian guy who finds São Paulo in a very difficult moment. We have gone twelve years without winning major titles. Of course, there are many factors contributing to that, like bad decisions made by the club's management. However, recently, the sleeping giant has shown me why it is the reason for my life - ironic moments, whatever. I know, it's hard to believe... but São Paulo is the greatest team in Brazil. Maybe twelve years will pass again, maybe not. But I will always be here; this thing comes straight from mry f*cking heart.

I think the two leg final makes it easier for underdogs actually. If you play the final as a single game in a “neutral field”, the chance that a game between a big club vs underdog is going to be a home game for the big club.
A lot of people and I mean, A LOT of people in Brazil support big clubs outside their state/city, making it a single home game for a big club in a single leg cup final
