I was a pupil at Handsworth Grammar School from 1959 to 1965 and can even see an old form-room on one of the photos of Grove Lane. Across the road from the school was a very old bakery where we would buy buttered cobs for 2d each at morning break and further down the Lane was a Jamaican record shop where I would often spend my one shilling dinner money buying Ska/ Mento/ Blue Beat and Calypso singles for 6d each (I still have them all - and I still play them!). Or maybe one single and sixpennorth of chips to take down to the park where we would chat up the girls from Rosehill Rd HS. in the Bandstand. I'm so pleased to see that the Bandstand has survived as, amazingly, has The Sons of Rest, unfortunately Grove House has gone but the Park looks as beautiful on a sunny day as it ever did! Thanks again Joseline for another wonderful trip down Memory Lane - make my day complete by revealing the title and artiste(s) of that very catchy tune that I've now got "on the brain"!

Very interesting, when I lost my previous channel, I had a vid for a track of mine..."B Anywhere" that used a lot of the places you've covered....The Princes suite means a lot to me...the Uplands has gone....my part of Handsworth has died the death of homes of multiple occupancy, all the ppl including me have gone now....so sad....they were happy times....

I love the videos - thank you. My Grandparents lived on Woodstock Road and my Dad was raised there. I took on their house after my Grandfather died, and have many happy memories. Past and present it has a lot of rich history to tell.

Handsworth lost its lustre in the 60s onwards and now is full of trash everywhere .i grew up on whitehall road in the late 40s and 50s went to handsworth grammer. You cant walk the streets after sunset.
Victoriana rocks - and never more so than in Handsworth!!!!!! - Much thanks - ps - groovy music too (don't think the victorians would like it though :-) x
