You can be proud of the resurrection of this Focus and thank you for bringing us along. This has been one of my favourite series on the channel.
Thank you! I’ve been so pleased with the positive reaction this series has had, now that this one is almost complete I need think seriously about what to follow it up with!
@@JohnnyGetsCash a small red MG maybe……
@@jackwebster428 decent MGs with the proper service history are extremely hard to come by these days. They are starting to fetch a real premium now!
Loving this series, binged chop to the top too recently as well as the fourtrak restoration, the latter of which is a criminally underrated series definitely deserving of more attention
Thanks very much! I really appreciate you checking out some of my other work!
@@JohnnyGetsCash No worries man, looking forward to seeing more and more content, keep persevering and the algorithm with definitely start ramping up your videos
@@zachariah74 Thank you!
Your attention to detail takes this car to another level well done
Thank you!
The moment when you're just watching the series and as you finish the last video new one comes up 🤌
It was meant to be!
JohnnyGetsCash ... thankyou so much for taking on board the burn marks on the seats. Now the car has no visible sign of ever being smoked in, and looks well above expectations. I recently met a lady in Devon, selling a near identical Ford Focus in a lower condition for £1295, with about 40,000 more miles under its wheels than yours, and apparently, the phone rang off the hook ... 🤗 ...
That’s very encouraging to hear! This one will be available for sale soon but to be honest I’m debating what the asking price should be. This is now genuinely one of the best examples I’ve personally seen!
@@JohnnyGetsCash
It's a minimum £1995 , but with all the work and effort you put into it. You should advertise it at £2495 and be confident you will get that. We should know. We are Ford specialists so you should definitely get that for all your hard work.
Sunday afternoon viewing. 🌞
For an old Ford, it scrubbed up nicely. Nice to see the seats sorted.
would rather drive a scruffy car that is mechanically sound than a mechanical pile of crap that looks nice.
That car had a 33k mileage roll back on its 2009 MOT, but is now looking fresh as a Daisy, love your ethic of getting everything factory and as good as it can be 👍🏻
Yes as I understand it, it was a common issue with the mk1 focus whereby the binnacles failed due to dry solder joints and as such binnacles were replaced under warranty. In the case of this car, it was replaced at around 33k miles (for a zero miles binnacle) 👍
Mate that is stunning work. I am so glad you did the seats, I knew you would as the rest of the car is so good. Top job buddy.
Thank you! On reflection I’m glad I’ve done the seats too. I think I didn’t give this car enough credit before by saying it wasn’t worth replacing them. It certainly wasn’t easy but a worthy endeavour!
@@JohnnyGetsCash It's your attention to detail and the fact you do the job correctly is why I am a Sub mate, it's always refreshing to see your work.
Another great video and quality work! I’d love that little Focus as a daily driver. Just looked at one over here for $4995. A 2005 Estate with 136,000km. Rotten as a pear with a blowing exhaust!!
@@busnutta that’s crazy money for a rotter!
Fantastic work. Really glad you sorted the burns in the seat - really brought the whole car up together.
Thank you! I’m glad they’re sorted now, I agree that it helps to tie everything together!
Great video mate, the car is looking stunning ❤ well done 👏
Thank you!
That starting wheel refresh just finishes it off a treat
Thank you!
hi i shared your video on the mk1 focus preservation group on fb and there loving this.fantastic job on saving which is now getting rarer mk1 focus.
Thanks very much! I always like to hear the opinions of enthusiasts! Cheers 👍
Fantastic video again. Gorgeous Ford focus
You are on the top of the game Johnny, doing so very well! See you at 100K subs very soon! 🤩🤜🏻💥🤛🏻😉
Thanks very much, i appreciate you watching!
Really good job, you have saved this good car that can easily run a lot more. Someone will be really happy with this car and the work you have done.💪🏼😃
Great simple solution, change base of front seat, the simple ideas are the best, the car is looking great, refresh the steering wheel another good solution that’s what’s good about your videos good ideas with simple solutions 👍
I have been made aware of another fellow UA-camr doing a series on a Focus Mk1. I'm so pleased to see this car getting some back to basics treatment. It takes time and effort and the car is looking amazing!
The Focus Mk1 is what my channel is centered around and started a Preservation group for these so I will be very interested to see what this sells for as its a judge of where the community is with values slowly climbing now. The higher this sells for the better. Top work!
Thanks for watching! I’ve just had a look at the mk1 preservation page - good work on that one. These cars deserve more recognition!
@@JohnnyGetsCash cheers buddy they certainly do and you've helped that a lot :)
great work keep lookin forward to ur videos on this, thanks for taking the time, appreciated, thanks,
Thank you for watching! Hearing that people enjoy my stuff keeps me motivated to keep on getting new content out!
I am driving a MK1 Ghia Focus myself! Its a 1999 pre facelift model and currently has about 103.000Km on the clock. Unfortunately one of my AC-Lines seems to have a leak, which seems to be quite a big problem, unfortunately. One repair shop i took it to refused to repair the line, since it was too much work! So no AC for me anymore.
I really like your video series of lightly restoring this focus. It has such a nice blue color!
That’s a shame! I don’t believe any job is too difficult or not worth doing - it’s just a matter of how much time (therefore money) one is willing to invest in a solution! I hope you can get it sorted 👍
Really great work Johnny, fantastic attention to detail. Well done.
Thank you for watching!
Great job !
It's looking fantastic.
I did think that you'd change both rear springs though, as the other one's corroded too.
I think the MOT tester has been particularly harsh in this case as I also planned to change both rear springs, until I looked at the other spring and saw that it was virtually perfect. I really can’t see what corrosion he is referring to. Madness!
@@JohnnyGetsCash Seems to me the only defence to this is to be a regular customer of one particular mot station. Perhaps they'll be a little less likely to issue sketchy fails if you may take your business elsewhere.
@@soggybottom3463 I always use the same MOT station however this tester is new to them so I think he’s probably playing everything ultra safe?!
@@JohnnyGetsCash even if playing ultra safe raplacing just one spring is both stupid and dangerous. but i can see you prefer style over mechanical safety and precision.
Great video series! Ive really enjoyed these. Its popular on the Focus groups on Facebook too!
That’s awesome! Hopefully the folks over on the owners clubs are enjoying seeing this old MK1 get some love!
Perfect finish for the interior. 👏🏻💎 Looking forward to hear more from the next MOT test!
Retest will be in the next few days so that will certainly be covered in the next video!
@@JohnnyGetsCash sounds great!
That sure is a lovely mk1 now! Super job!
Love the design water in rear brake light.brilliant
That steering wheel restoration kit you used looks great, I may have to get some for my car, my 2007 Fiesta is looking a bit tired atm. I got some leather polish to try 1st, if that fails I will try that kit.
Great looking focus, and awesome series. These cars are superb and it’s great to see them still on our roads 👌🏻✊🏻
They certainly are great cars, and I believe it’s important to preserve examples like this (non-RS or ST cars) as one day these will be the rarest as they’re so taken for granted right now!
@@JohnnyGetsCashI’ve been watching you other series. I absolutely love the mini series. Any updates on what’s happening with the mini? Last episode I saw was you chip coating the underside of it ready for paint. Really looking forward to seeing that finished 👌🏻
@@gwengo4167 thank you, that’s great to hear! The mini project is on hold for a little while as I started restoring the fourtrak thinking it’d be a quick freshen up but that turned out to be a bit of a basket case, and unfortunately I can’t back down from a challenge so I’ve gone all in and committed to finishing that one before I can pick up the mini again however it shouldn’t be much longer now!
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Love your work and your attention to detail. The Focus is now looking amazing! I hope you can make a tidy profit out of all that hard work!
Thank you! It’ll be available for sale very soon!
@@JohnnyGetsCash unfortunately, I don't live in the UK. The shipping costs to Australia and import charges would make it prohibitively expensive!
I hope it goes to a good home, though.
It's always the little bits that nickel and dime you to death. and eat away at profits. Nice find on the seats. I know that wasn't easy.
You can say that again! Secretly though, i do love a challenge!
Nice video, cleaning behind light fitting etc 👍👍👍
It’s all about the small details!
pity about the mot,but could of been worse! seat change job was well worth doing i think as its lifted the interiors quality now to match how good everything else looks!
Great video👍🏻
Thank you!
Well worth sorting the seats! I think you can get smart repairs done on seat burns but not as good a job as replacing them
Hi Johnny
I am new subscriber and watched every video s of this car you have done a fantastic job it is now a lovely car well worth asking price I am sure this caf will many more years of service well done again😅
Phil in stoke
Hi Phil, thanks for your kind words and thanks for watching! The MK1 certainly turned into a lovely example - I was so pleased with the results from a ‘destined for scrap’ car! Cheers
Ha Johnny. That’s a mighty fine job you did. Well done on the seats. I know from experience how much time goes in to finding them. Also laughing when you checked the number plate lights as that was a favourite to catch me out on mots. All in all a great result considering with the mot. I know thay are getting fussy about suspension parts that are paint less. Strange one. As by you give them a paint and there happy. The car looks great. Just as I suspected when I first saw you with it. Bob.
Cheers Bob! Yeh those number plate lights are all too easy to overlook! The spring has now been changed and retest will be in the week so she will be ready to find a new home very soon!
That’s great news. Like what you do with them. Just about the same as i used to do. Not doing it at the moment as things have changed for us but brings back the memories of the enjoyment I got from doing this. Big 👍👍. 🔧🔧🔧🔧
That steering wheel came up great!
Thanks, I was really impressed with the finish too!
I love Ford Focus MK1s
There's a way of repairing the burn holes by scraping some of the fibre off and using some glue.
I briefly investigated this method, but then I realised I may as well invest my efforts into getting replacement units (and that was a challenge and a half!)
Marlious job on that cheap focus hope u make nice profit after all your hard work
Thank you!
Do both rear coil springs as the other one is an advisory.
Check the front and rear suspension components and the brake pipes/lines/hoses etc. as this car has suffered from problems with them in the past (2018, 2019 & 2021).
My OCD wants the debris and muck cleaned out from behind the other front wheel arch and rear indicator cluster too! 😜😂
The other rear spring is virtually new so I’m very surprised it was advised, in fact I will challenge it at retest! I will go over the other bits too!
I noticed on the MOT sheet that the other rear coil spring is corroded. Since you're replacing the broken one anyway I would go ahead and replace them both.
(Depending on profit outcome, as a business..)
The other spring is almost new, otherwise i would have changed that one too. No idea why it was advised. I will be challenging that one!
I'm glad you did the interior. The car deserves it. Respect from Thailand 🇹🇭🙏
Quick question: Whats an mot?
Thanks for watching! An MOT (standing for ‘Ministry Of Transport’) is our annual road worthiness test. All cars over the age of 3 years old have to have an MOT done every year to ensure they’re safe for use on the roads 👍
Thank you
Johnny what was the stuff you used for steering wheel. Mines gone the same looks fantastic great job on the mk1 focus
Hope the rear arm bolt comes out to do the rear spring....the bolt usually seizes to the Bush...many years ago since I did them on this shape focus use to end up replacing the rear suspension arm and bolts
All good!
You know what I really like about you Sir, it is that you do your job properly, very sadly, my 2004 Beige Land Cruiser failed it's MOT on a lot of underbody welding and some other bits, I have driven her since she had only 19995 on the clock, now she is at the ripe old age of 227035,I really wanted to get her to 300000, I only drive about 10000 a year now, but unfortunately that will not be happening, so I have just spent £6700.00 on a 54 plate Land Cruiser same model, but with a 6 gear manual transmission??? and in black, not sure about the colour, but I've bought it now. Upon further closer inspection, which I guess I should've done before buying it, I am finding so many things about it I don't like, I am going to swap over whatever I can trim wise and also find someone who can change over the steering wheel and remove the front bumper and also fix a few things that are bugging me, like it is difficult to get into reverse, I'm sure I will start to love this one as soon as this is done. but right now it's just a car... Great job as always...
I’m sorry to hear about that. Is you’re old LC beyond saving by a talented welder?
It’s always hard in situations like yours trying the find the line between perseverance and throwing good money after bad. I feel for you! Best of luck and I hope you get everything sorted soon 👍
I have a brand new MK1 Focus steering wheel which I bought many years ago that came with a cruise control kit which I never got round to fitting
That’s probably worth decent money now!
Amazing attention to detail. Little buff on the exhaust cleaning around the lights while they are out very nice.
I'm scouring eBay for this mark of focus now! Bet none are this nice.
I love the small details, I like to think that’s what separates my cars from the masses! This one will be for sale soon…I just need to figure out a suitable price point!
@@JohnnyGetsCash I didn't watch that all to the end before commenting, very nice work on those seats and steering wheel mate, it's looking absolute mint. That's a useable modern day classic. Wish I could afford a 2nd car id have it in a shot.
yeah cos cleaning the exhaust tailpipe makes a good car..,,,,, ffs
Brilliant. Admire your tenacity! Could you not have got those burns repaired by employing a good car trimmer. I remember my dad getting an invisible repair done years back on a 2nd hand car. And a quick search throws up a lot of companies. 👍☺️
There isn't any experts in that field in my area and whereas i'm sure i could've tried to learn the technique myself, ultimately an investment in time and a few road miles to get some replacement units won out!
Great job with the seat's and yes trying to find exact donor parts on a mk1 aint as easy as people think 😏 shame about the coil spring failure but thats the life of a 20+ year old car.
Hope when you come to sell it you get a decent price considering all the hard work you have put into it. They are a great car and mine has never let me down
It really is a challenge as so many of these cars have gone the way of the crusher by now, but perseverance always pays! Thanks for watching!
@@JohnnyGetsCash Whats really sad is most of the ones crushed didn't need to be and were just traded in some scrappage scheme. The other issue with these old cars is they are becoming increasingly prohibitive to own thanks to ULEZ, very high rates of VED and the introduction of E10 fuel meaning in many of them you must use premium in order to not damage the car. I'd be spending an extra £600 a year extra just on fuel and VED over my 2016 Toyota Auris 1.2T which is also cheaper to insure, quicker and more comfortable. Its a real shame that government regulations and corporate greed are killing these old cars because there is nothing wrong with them and ironically its terrible for the enviroment constantly scrapping cars and building more where they are not needed.
@@gravemind6536 absolutely! Some are ULEZ compliant (like this is focus for example), but you’re certainly right on tax. I have always been an absolute opponent to scrappage schemes. Completely backwards mentality- scrapping perfectly serviceable vehicles to produce more (often electric) units in their place.
@@JohnnyGetsCash I don't mind when a car that is uneconomical to repair and completely rotten gets scrapped thats fine but when people are driving their cars into dealerships in perfect working order for them to be scrapped I think its awful. It ruins the used market at the low end where people want cheap run abouts and it pushes up price in the middle section of the market too. You can't get something even semi decent anymore without spending £2k or more and its ridiculous.
Wow you certainly go great lengths to make your cars as perfect as they can be , this car will sell no problem at all, it would be difficult to find a better condition Ghia at this age.
Thank you! Might just have to keep this one 😏
Hello. I have enjoyed every second of the video. The fact is I am a proud owner of a 2001 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec in Malibu Blue. How much would it cost, a full reparation like this? Approximately. Thank you.
Not long now until we hear the words, going, going, sold. That’ll be snapped up as soon as you put the advert up. I hope you get top money as it’ll be hard to find another in that condition for sale.
I hope so! I think if someone who’s serious about acquiring a proper example of the MK1 comes to see it, they will have to have it!
That looks really good ! In my opinion Old fixed cars much better than new and good cars haha do you want it try to do some welding on my Vauxhall omega 😅?
😂 Thanks, but I think I have enough on my hands at the moment!
Looking forward to seeing how the steering wheel holds up. Will it stay black or come off in the driver's hands? Great video
I heat cured it onto the wheel after application stage and then buffed with a light coloured microfibre so can confirm that there is not transfer from the new finish. I guess time will tell as to how it holds up but it is rated for use on steering wheels so I’m pretty confident that it’ll do the job!
Great Video! Just wondering what Polisher is the best polisher to use for a beginner. I just want one good one that will do a good job.
It depends what sort of work you're doing. I started with a Sealey polisher running a 6 inch head (still use that for large areas), and now i also use an SPTA detail polisher for smaller areas. Both rotary not D/A which is a bit trickier to master but IMO allows you to work faster when familiar with the tool.
Very interesting thank you I have a Ford focus 2003 Mk1 bought 2016 for £300. 47,671 genuine miles. To date I had to replace - Clutch - fuel pump - wiper blades - new welding flooring - 2 x new door window motors. Well pleased. Now my question is what product did you use to clean the steering wheel ? it looked amazing as I want to revitalise the steering wheel as you are correct you can’t get a new wheel.
Thanks for watching. The steering wheel refurb kit is linked in the description 👍
Above and beyond. I actually think it would have been fine with the couple seat blemishes due to its age. But it DOES look nice.
Initially this was my though process - but a lot of viewers disagreed and i have to say, listening to the masses has paid dividends in this case. After all, who wants to see burns in a seat when the rest of the car is this clean?!
I'd hang on to it.
Believe me, the temptation is real, but I have enough cars in my hoard already!
At least rear coil spring is easier than front coil spring.
Potential buyers are going to struggle finding something wrong with the car . I like to point out things to reduce the price here it isn't happening 😅.
😂 that’s the game after all so fair play to you! I like to think I’m fastidious enough to stay one step ahead of that but I’ll always have a deal with someone!
What’s the stuff you used on the steering wheel? There’s too much stuff listed to be able to find it accurately
Ive seen some of your cleaning vids-what’s in the spray bottle when your cleaning the engine bay with the brush and spray bottle?
Depending on the state of an engine bay i chop and change what i use (i mix up my own combinations of stuff). In the case of this Focus i used a small amount of TFR with some dilute-able degreaser and some APC. I have to say though - only mix chemicals according to manufacturers data sheets!
Yeah, those coil springs get corroded over time and then they break. Not a big deal.
Great, great job! What did you do to clean the tail pipe end so quickly?
I used some green scotchbrite with a metal polishing compound followed by a microfibre buff 👍
@@JohnnyGetsCash and the rest of the exhaust is rotten and due replacing in a few thousand miles. ,
You dont need a rear wiper for the MOT its not a requirement. Because mine has no rear wiper and no tester seemed to care.
True, as stated in the video - but my attitude is that if it's on the car, it has to work and work properly. That's kind of the ethos of these light restorations and one that i hope helps to give my cars the edge come sale time!
🎁 Now ready for a new owner, great purchase with evidence... We'll earned ✌️
Thank you!
Good video and good series! Thank you.
This particular make and model deserved more recognition than it had. My mother bought a 1.6 litre, low mileage, in 2005. It was a wonderful, reliable car.

Stay tuned, as soon as this one is available I will show case it here 👍
you're thorough with everything. really nice
Thanks for watching!
except for mechanical and safety issues , bet this thing looks good but is a death trap and a breakdown recovery waiting to happen.
always change springs at a pair.... mechanics recommendation
Oddly, the other spring is virtually brand new so has obviously been changed in the not too distant. No idea why it was advised as there’s nothing wrong with it!
Awesome are you going to rust proof the Suspension arms. It's a modern classic be worth around £1800 in that condition.
I will certainly give them some attention as I don’t want the new owner to have any concerns or jobs to do moving forward for the foreseeable!
Got to be more than that now surely. Prices are already on the rise. I'd say £2k minimum, maybe £2.5k.
a "cracked" rear coil spring, bloody hell , you must have found an mot tester, who in a previous job must have been a forensic specialist !!!!!
It was nearly impossible to find the crack too, I’ve no idea how he spotted it, but true enough it was cracked so the spring had to be changed. His advisories on the other spring and the trailing arms though was well out of order in my opinion. The other spring is virtually brand new!
@@JohnnyGetsCash perhaps he knows of your channel, he knows the car`s going to be sold on and he`s covering his back, this is the only theory that "springs" to mind..🥴🥴🥴🥴
@@t5jerry yes, fair point, that could be the reason!
Be interested to see how much you are selling it for and where you will advertise it.

Got a £1000 opening offer genuine offer if you are interested
As Johnny is running this as a business income his time needs to be charged around minimum £30 - £50 per hour (otherwise he would make better income working for an employer I have found)
I do factor in my hours when preparing a car and that all feeds into the overall stand in value come sale time. Fortunately years of experience mean that i work quickly so can keep these hours to a minimum (filming and editing the videos are of course an extra endeavour!)
@@JohnnyGetsCash are cars your day job?
Mate I'd give you £250 for this!!
I think replacing the seats was abit over kill, its a 20 year old car after all. On a car this age, not going to be making your profit bigger. Just more work/costs in my opinion. However your attention to detail is fantastic! Keep up the good work 👍
Wow. The work you have put into this focus… Maybe your channel should be “Johnny loses cash…” 😂 This has got to be £2500 - £3000 all day long surely? You won’t find another. And it seems that a lot of low mileage older cars that are becoming modern classics are base spec models in awful colour. Whereas this is quite the opposite….
Thank you! Its really hard trying to set a price point for this one, based on the facts that you've identified...I'll need to figure it out soon though!
Man you are dragging this series........
replacing one spring? lazy. thinking lights and screen washers are all they check on mot idiotic. Painting the other rusty spring bodging and dangerous.
I had one spring changed on the advice of a mechanic (and coincidentally the same person who MOT’d the car). This is not lazy or dangerous in anyway.
RE MOT checks, as mentioned these pre-checks are simply the basics that one may as well do prior to an MOT. Obviously we can’t checked everything however my attitude is that if the car failed or was advised on anything potentially dangerous I would then have that item replaced before re-testing.
Finally, I didn’t paint the remaining spring. I have no idea where you got that from.
So thank you for your rather sour and pointless comment but you are wrong on several levels!
@@JohnnyGetsCash @8:56 springs trailing arm repainted etc so no bother. . Stick to polishing and sending your cars out for a service incase you get your nails dirty.
@@MonkeyHunch1 Maybe I should’ve clarified in case of keyboard warriors…re-coated (with corrosion inhibitor which is painted on).
