If anyone wants to see a GOOD live-action Halo series, they need to watch Forward Unto Dawn. That was very well done, even if it's been a bit since it came out
Something in 4 really stood out for me. Chief was always robotic and Cortana was the personality of the two. According to the games, there’s so much lore and they only used 1%. Love first season of red vs blue!
That's part of why their dynamic is interesting. The AI that isn't a human at all acts like a human and the human that has been so brainwashed and traumatized he acts like a robot.
5:17 Red vs Blue was fun to watch back in the old days of Rooster Teeth when they were just a couple of friends just having fun making the fan animation of Halo.

Having played all the games and reading each of the books at least twice, I knew how this series was going to go when they said they didn't stick to the source. The worst thing thou is when people would try to defend the series saying, "why would you want a retelling of a story you already know?" Well because the original story is amazing and seeing it in live action would be have been great....but no, we got his instead.
The Oldest and greatest work of literature in the Western Canon the Iliad is literally a story that all of Ancient Greece already knew. It was at least 500 years old by the time Homer wrote it down. His genius was writing about 54 days of the last year of the war with depth and vision and dramatic characterization. But his audience knew the Greek pantheon, they knew Afememnon, Achilles, Helen, Paris and Hector. They knew at the end the Trojans lost and the poem doesn’t even get to the horse and sacking of Troy. But they didn’t know how the gods argued with each other, the rage of Achilles, or the nobility of hector, of the tragedy and heroism of it all. If the oldest work of literature can re tell a known story why couldn’t they make a show based on the rich universe of the halo franchise. They could have just focused on one thing and had creative license while staying faithful to the characters.
"why would you want a retelling of a story you already know?" Would anyone go to a performance of Hamlet, or The Nutcracker, if they already knew the story?
We did get a better live action version before this for 10x less in terms of budget. It was Halo: Forward unto dawn. It was so much better and made chief look more accurate to the character and generally awesome. .
Rewatched Dawn some months ago, and felt it was better than the first time I watched it. It stays loyal to the core themes and story beats while telling its own story. Now, that's how you do it.
If Chief only took off the Helmet amongst his very close confidants like Halsey and his team it would be alright but he just can't bear to keep the damn thing on any where he goes.
The thing with his helmet, is that I understand when took it off when he was in his home base, but in battle grounds? That doesn’t even make sense. Soldiers don’t take their helmets in battle grounds, that’s how you get shot in the head.
Or when they have high-powered rifles pointed directly at their skulls. You'd swear the Spartans had potatoes for brains. To be fair, it is quite difficult to write characters smarter than yourself.
Yup. It could have been a signal of transition between downtime scenes and fight scenes, in parallel with music which signals that transition (cue the Ominous Horns from Star Trek). It could have emphasized that there ARE some times and places he feels safe... and those could become fewer and fewer, if the story goes into "all territory is enemy territory". It could have even showed that he regrets HAVING to put on the helmet, that he wishes he could be a human more than he's killing machine, but alas, he was designed to be a killing machine and he's not in a situation where an ordinary human can survive.
In the book for the first Halo game, John has to take off his chest-plate during a battle, because he got stabbed by the Flood. It is heavily emphasized how vulnerable he feels in that moment, pretty sure it is the only time in all of the books the Master Chief displays some kind of panic. In the Haloverse, when traveling longer distance through Warpjumps, crews get into cryostasis. You ALWAYS do this naked. Only the Spartans get frozen in their armor, even though it leds to heavy freezer-burn. That is how commited they are to be immediately ready to fight and to not risk getting MJOLNIR damaged.

This literally, perfectly, summarizes why the show wasn't good
One of the best HT's I've seen
Kudos to you guys for suffering through this sh*tfest to actually make this video. Loved the disclaimer about season 2 lol.
It was so clear they didn't want to hahaha
All that was missing was "PRAISE TOM CRUISE! And also Sonic, for some reason."
If only the Spartans took their helmets off only in private, with other Spartans or with Cortana or Halsey. It would’ve made it a lot more impactful whenever his helmet was off.
Even in the game lore they walk around base with helmets off.
Yeah like goblin slayer or mandalorian
I love it if every time Chief took off his helmet he got snipped.
This video was better than the entire show. Also, thank you for reminding me about Red vs Blue.
yep RvB was my introduction to halo... it was hilarious.....
They had the ingredients to make a great series. They just decided to do their own thing. The halo series is pretty much good to go on its own.
This is far and away the best honest trailer in a long time. Not dumping on the others, this one is just excellent. Top shelf work folks, well done.
This video was terrible lol. Honest Trailers peaked three years ago

@@thehumblepotatoreborn9313 7 years ago.
@@paulsoldner9500 Possibly... Just seems like they're scared to really offend anyone, so the writing just ends up being super bland
"I'm going to rewatch Red vs. Blue instead." Truer words were never spoken.
Another win for RoosterTeeth. Now let’s have a RWBY honest trailer or a Gen:Lock honest trailer, or better yet, a RED vs BLUE honest trailer before RTX 2022 begins.
@@multiverse_media2023 Amen!
I respect that you showed Red vs Blue and put them in here. Very well done and Very classy @screen Junkies. Props man.
not only was it the shortest warthog ride, it didn't even flip once.
Realism 0/10. They didn't even try to drive it where it clearly shouldn't be driven.
"Never take your helmet off"
Dredd just grimaces at this an The Mandalorian
this video was exactly correct. "its only sold, lets see here, 80 million copies!" lol
I love that the Kwon story was completely unresolved lol
i had completely forgotten about her storyline by the end and apparently so did the writers
Thank god, she was the most annoying part of the show. And we're talking about a show where Master Chief doesn't wear his helmet 90% of the time.
Let’s keep it that way
I forgot that part of the story existed until the last 4 seconds of this Honest Trailer lmao
Pretty certain they planned for it to pick up again in season 2. The well is probably a portal to wherever the covenant is going or trying to go.
If anyone wants to see a GOOD live-action Halo series, they need to watch Forward Unto Dawn. That was very well done, even if it's been a bit since it came out
I absolutely loved forward unto dawn
Red vs. Blue is the only Halo show needed.
And it’s a live action adaptation that gets Master Chief rigjt
Agreed... Everyone responsible for this show should have taken notes from all the fan created content already out there.
this is like that DBZ movie that shall not be named all over again
Something in 4 really stood out for me. Chief was always robotic and Cortana was the personality of the two. According to the games, there’s so much lore and they only used 1%. Love first season of red vs blue!
That's part of why their dynamic is interesting. The AI that isn't a human at all acts like a human and the human that has been so brainwashed and traumatized he acts like a robot.
Bored of the Ring genuinely made me laugh.
I actually forgot that a Halo live action series was meant to come out at all, so it's nice to know that I wasn't missing anything
People gotta stop saying actually.

Eww.
That was the most failed attempt at getting praise I've ever seen lol.
There are 12 seasons? wtf I only saw the ones up to halo 3.
consistently shocked character, i am dying laughing here.
For every Top Gun Maverick…… we get a Paramount Halo series….
Fun Fact: the guy who directed top gun Maverick also directed the starry night commercial for halo 3
With Paramount make that 100
Paramount was doing too well this year. They had to balance the ledger.
@@sombramemer1230 yeah that good/bad ratio is definitely not 1:1
dont forget to include Netflix "Witcher" in it too. It got the same HALO treatment :(
Now I want a honest trailer for red vs blue.
It's shocking that "Forward Unto Dawn" had a lower budget and runtime, and was still better.
5:17 Red vs Blue was fun to watch back in the old days of Rooster Teeth when they were just a couple of friends just having fun making the fan animation of Halo.
Speaking of 'Red Vs Blue', that was more faithful than whatever the hell this is
Yeah, those were good days.
Yeah, shame it kinda went the way of the Simpsons. Still leaps and bounds better than this, though, and probably has more to do with the actual plot of Halo.
Halo Forge was fucking fantastic
I've actually enjoyed RvB all the way, including RvB Zero. No one else has to like it, but I did.
Halo was my favourite videogame series and still is. Hollywood just stepped on my nuts and never let go with this adaptation
Master Chef the modern Stallone Judge Dread 🤣🤣
creators: we're going to remove his helmet
Investors: are you sure that's a good idea?
creators: why? we've never played the games, he takes his helmet off right?
Investors:
I got 1000x more enjoyment out of this than I did the halo show
Best advise ever: "watch 'Red Verses Blue' instead."
Hahahahaha, ooooooh!
This show is canon, in that it takes place in Chief's mind when he was hallucinating after that haymaker from Aatriox.
Yep. Its like if you have your own ideas make them. Don't use someone else's success to give yours credibility.
🙄
They could have just focused on one thing and had creative license while staying faithful to the characters.
and even if then, this wasn't even a good new telling.
"why would you want a retelling of a story you already know?"
Would anyone go to a performance of Hamlet, or The Nutcracker, if they already knew the story?
@@rileymclaughlin4831 Of course they would and do.
1:45 LMFAO best fckng line of the video 😂👌 I couldn't take her seriously with that wig on her head
We did get a better live action version before this for 10x less in terms of budget. It was Halo: Forward unto dawn. It was so much better and made chief look more accurate to the character and generally awesome. .
Don’t forget that movie sucked until the last 10 minutes
@@williambenton6254 wasn't a movie if you were there each week; the not so good, but clearly old days.
it was very low budget and had no-name actors
but it had the spirit of the game
and Master Chief and the spartans looked legit badass
Forward Unto Dawn was awful. This is better lol.
Rewatched Dawn some months ago, and felt it was better than the first time I watched it. It stays loyal to the core themes and story beats while telling its own story. Now, that's how you do it.
The actor playing Master Cheeks said "how are you supposed to know my emotions if you can't see my face?". Fucking astonishing
Yeah, it's not like there are actors that dedicate their careers acting solely through their voice
Vader (David Prowse) would like to have a word, and possibly some aggressive negotiations.
If Chief only took off the Helmet amongst his very close confidants like Halsey and his team it would be alright but he just can't bear to keep the damn thing on any where he goes.
Has he ever heard of body language?
Aren't actors supposed to be capable of conveying emotions through body language, movements, voice tone, subtlety and extra linguistic movements?
ima tell my kids that RvB was the real halo series

My favorite part of the show was when he took off his helmet, so I knew immediately that I wasn't watching Halo and could just turn it off.

Reading the first few Halo books, there's quite a bit of mil-sim stuff thrown in which I liked.
Every time I watch something on Paramount & I see that unwatched s1 e2 of Halo & wonder when I should get back to it. Now I know why I haven't. This 'honest trailer' was so fkn funny that I had to subscribe. Actual & genuine lol moments. I need more asap

The characters in the show aren't the ones from Halo, its just a fanfic called Holo. Starring Mr Chef, Dr Haley and the AI Courtney.
Always Always Always leave something in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing and/ or has fan worthy level of knowledge of the product they are adapting.
When these 6 minutes were more entertaining than any 6 minutes in the actual show
"She comes from planet Madrigal"
I knew you, the internet, couldn't resist the temptation to make that joke. I just knew it!
I wholeheartedly believe that the only knowledge of Halo the people designing the show had was in a random file labelled Halo somebody sent to them containing clips from a half-dozen generic sci-fi games mixed with either fanfics or a short wiki dive.
It's either that or they chose to deliberately make a video game adaptation that deliberately spits on every single theme and goal of the actual thing it's supposedly based on.
I'm laughing hard when news said
"We aren't reading the source materials and we are proud of it"

I predicted the entire plot including the "twist" from the first trailer. I wasn't even a fan of the games but thought they had plenty of material to work with to make this good... how could they fail so badly?
They completely ignored the source material except for names and functions of things
There was a twist? I think that’s giving the writers too much credit..
Why did you hope they wouldn't fail THAT BADLY ?
Why did you hold unto the hope that they would make a good halo Tv series ?

I thought for sure they would mention how the one former spartan kept sayin: "I made a promise to chief to keep you safe". Like every scene he was in after he made that promise, he brought it up
@1:30 Look I haven’t watched the show yet, but I can’t get over how the chief’s face injured. If only there were some kinda of protective equipment to keep that from happening.
Maybe the only piece of Halo they looked at was the amazing trialer of HALO: ODST and they thought that was the Master Chief?
