    SUMMARY
    Especially on the internet, the idea that we still need feminism is hotly contested. In this episode of Sex+, Laci goes through a list of 60 reasons why she thinks feminism is still important and relevant in 2013. She closes by asking the audience to discuss whether or not they identify as a feminist.

      +CowboyHiha The first time you have sex should NOT be painful. If it hurts, it's because you aren't naturally lubricated because you aren't relaxed or truly turned on. Girls are told that that's normal, when it isn't. She's saying she's a feminist because of the lack of sexual education on those matters. And part of the reason the idea that pain is normal is continued, is so that men don't actually have to make a woman comfortable to have sex with them. Instead, the idea is it's normal for women not to be comfortable during sex for the first time.

      +Holly Ballasteros no, its because the first time sex is had the hymen breaks. Thats a fact

    • @annieballasteros9159
      @annieballasteros9159 9 років тому +38

      +DerpyDudes that's not a fact. Have you ever taken sexual education? Or like researched that? The hymen can't "break". The hymen isn't a covering. It's extra tissue AROUND the vagina. There is no covering. The only thing that can happen is slight tearing without lubrication or too much friction.

    On the video you show the definition. "Social movement for gender and sex equality". "I'm a feminist because women..." No Laci. You should be a feminist for the human race, not one gender or sex. There are GLOBAL issues for both sexes. You're not a feminist if you're fighting one side, you're part of the problem.

    • @sarahdalton4589
      @sarahdalton4589 7 років тому +9

      Josh Latham You are right that feminism is the equality of all genders however it is called feminism to recognise the fact that historically and still to this day it is women who are oppressed. It is perfectly acceptable to be a feminist because you can see injustice against women, because feminism is literally all about fighting that injustice to bring women up to the level of men. Recognising a problem within one gender doesn't mean that you don't recognise the other

      be sure to point me in the direction of groups of men fighting for women's rights (seeing as you expect women to fight for men's rights). Or, we could look at many instances where women are discriminated against by men, and maybe you should take issue with those seeing as it gives you all a bad name.

No thats not it. and if that's what feminism is i rather not be a part of it becausr I WANT EQUALITY FOR EVERYONE. Women do have a lot of problems i get that but they're not the only ones, what about men and other races and lgbt community everyone deserves equality and from what the chick in the video said she only cares about women and how being treated like a women is the only thing that matter

      What you sexually identify as has nothing to do with feminism. 'Mailbox' doesn't even have anything to do with the LGBT community. I have no idea why feminism support LGBT issues, but the whole 'i identify as ...' thing is getting fucking old, dude.

    • @WitBeondMeasure
      @WitBeondMeasure 10 років тому +6

      Johnnie Blotus So please explain how it is okay for ANYONE to get raped, how our society laughs at women and men who have been raped, how they are called 'attention seekers' and 'asking for it'.
      Tell me how it is okay for my family, my friends, my classmates to use the term 'rape' casually to describe beating another person in a competitive setting although rape is a serious issue.
      And while you're at it, look up feminism in the /actual/ dictionary because I'm pretty sure it says this: feminism |ˈfeməˌnizəm|
      noun
      the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men
      aka: EQUALITY FOR EVERYONE

    Why is it that if a woman was to to slap or hit a man she's viewed as some sort of hero? In fact, the woman is often praised our idolized for slapping a man. If you guys are agreeing to equal rights for both genders, then all of you feminists are pretty much accepting that guys will be allowed to hit or fight a female the same way he'd fight another guy. Are you sure you really wanna go down that path?

    • @willlllow
      @willlllow 8 років тому +25

      Yes I do want to go down that path because I want to be seen as strong not as a girl I don't want to be hit but I don't want the reason for you not to hit me to be because I'm a girl. I don't want to just bring equality to women but to men too. I want there to be equality EQUAL meaning the same. So if getting payed the same as a man does and feeling safe at night means I might get hit harder than usual I will gladly get hit harder. Oh and stop implying that all girls are weak and can't take a hit because we can gain musle mass too. WOW!

      Depends on the problem.
      My problem is with the word.
      (Joking aside)
      Feminism is regarded by many to be a pro-woman anti man. A movement set on female dominance instead of equality. Regardless of this being the truth, it is the belief many.
      A belief that is only enforced when being called chauvinistic and "the problem".
      But then again, it might just be based on my location. We don't really have those issues around here.

    • @startingxaxriot
      @startingxaxriot 10 років тому +13

      iGottaRandomName The main word in that was "regarded." Feminism is REGARDED to be anti-man. That's the real problem. 99% of feminists don't hate men. There are, of course, extremists. The term "humanist" usually leads people to think of starving kids or abused old people, not gender inequality.

    • @iGottaRandomName
      @iGottaRandomName 10 років тому +5

      And the perception of the movement is often even more important than their efforts.
      You can't change the world, if the world doesn't take you seriously.
      From my perspective, feminism biggest hindrance lies in that 1% of feminists (popular known as fem-nazis) who does their very best to alienate people who might had been sympathetic to the cause. They may be few, but they are louder and more visible than the 99%.

    Going through the comment section kinda feels like being in a big room with a cold war going on. People from both sides are making good points sometimes, but most of what they're all saying seems to be cherry picking and putting words in the opposite sides mouths. I'd say both men's and women's rights should get a closer look in today's society. This endless fighting about who is right and whose fault it is doesn't actually help either side in my opinion. Can't we all agree that current laws are outdated for both sides and need upgrading without trying to strangle each other on the way to improvement? Not all women who stand for women's rights mean to demean the rights of man and not all men who stand for men's rights mean to demean the rights of women, we need to work on our collective listening skills perhaps. That doesn't mean you have to agree with the other side, it would just be nice to have an open neutral ground to have discussions or debates. I'd say it's better to agree to disagree on some points than to start pettily calling each other names or making offensive jokes, no one benefits from that, it just perpetuates the gap where both sides are not listening anymore but only shouting at each other from afar.
    I haven't commented on the actual video yet I suppose. In short, I came back to this video in 2019 to see if my opinions had changed after 5 years now that I feel more informed on the matter. I notice how a big part of the story is one-sided and not completely informed from both perspectives, so for me it's no longer relevant to my interests, since it's only one part of the discussion. I'd love to see more neutral information on this matter so that I can decide for myself what I think of the matter, and not to be fed information from only one side. That's how we can make an informed decision on where we stand in this. While I think that Laci's video isn't complete and not that factual anymore, I don't believe she deserves all the hate and name calling in the comments, that's not how you make things better people. That only drives people to depression and possibly suicide if they don't have a thick skin, would you really think job well done if someone harmed themselves because of a hateful comment you wrote? I'd like to think we're all better than that, c'mon people, practice common decency a little.
    Sorry, that got kinda long didn't it? Thank you for reading all the way, have a nice day/night.

    While I agree with you on your end Goals laci, I don't agree on your method of getting there I:E Feminism.
    Feminism seems to have 2 different definitions these days, It's either a movement fighting for womens rights, Or a movement fighting for everyones rights. Some people say, Well why can't it be both... Notice how they never include Men's rights activism under the same regard. It's quite simple, You're eithier: A Men's rights activist, A feminist, Or an eqalitarian much like your either gay straight or bi. Eqalitarian is the movement of equality, Not feminism and not MRA. I'll explain why.
    First of all lets start with mens rights and womens rights, Wait hold the phone. There's a problem already. What the hell is a womens right or a mans right? What rights do we have based on our gender alone? The answer is absolutely none. Therefore feminism and MRA by their core definitions do not actually make a heck of a lot of sense especially under the eyes of equality where gender is irrelevant.
    Don’t get me wrong, Both movements have their equality fighters, Both movements also have their misogynistic and misandrist douchebags within them and sadly they’re not in small numbers. Most of the equality fighters within these groups will concede they exist and even those who show a front of fighting for equality will often tell the opposite gender to go cry or ignore the other genders plight on issues which shows me that both groups no matter what the claim deep down are sexist. Not saying that all the members of these movements are like that but It’s quite clear to anyone who has ran into them before especially in quantity that the sexists are not rare at all.
    But this isn’t the only problem, You see Gender equality is about making gender irrelevant, and yet how are these movements fighting for gender equality? By making gender a dividing factor. Seems hypocritical does it not? How do you plan to fight for equality while contributing to the division?
    Are we also forgetting that there is a growing third gender? Transgenders?
    Not to say that issues both genders face aren’t good to fight against, murder,rape, rape culture, domestic violence, the right to freedoms, The right not to be scared objectified or discriminated against in any shape or form are all issues that need to be addressed in our society and the wider world but all of these issues are felt by both genders. I will gladly acknowledge that rape is an issue where women are the majority of victims, I will gladly acknowledge that murder is an issue where men are the majority and i will gladly acknowledge that transgender people make up the majority of discrimination if we bring statistics into it.
    But I ask you this, Should we care about the gender of the victim? Does that sound like a equality stance to you? Or should we focus our full attention on the crime, The issue. I would support the later, considering that once you start focusing on the gender you not only ostrocise victims who are not a part of that gender, Intentionally or otherwise. You also contribute more to the double standards in society & breed a culture of hate and fear where one of the 3 genders always fears one of the others.
    So as this has made perfectly clear, I’m not against feminism because I don’t support women, I’m not against Men’s rights activism because I’m against men. I’m against them because:
    A) They’re against equality
    B) They breed fear and hate
    C) They harm victims Intentionally or Unintentionally
    D) They ignore a gender
    F) They take focus off the issues for their own sexist agendas.
    I couldn’t give a fuck what gender you are. I fight for equality through equalities standards. I’m not a hypocrite & I believe in and will always stick to the principle of equality.
    The only issue that a woman faces that a man doesn't face that I can possibly think of in the civilized or should I say the civilized and slightly moral world is the right to be topless, If anyone can think of anymore, please feel free to respond.
    At the end of the day we want the same thing, However bringing gender into play is not a good path to equality laci, In fact it's the very opposite of what gender equality is all about.
    Fight for equality with equality.

      Why does this only have 2 (without counting my 3rd) thumbs up? This is exactly what I try to explain, but its also given me more insight on things. It's really sad though that as our generations go on there will always be something holding us back that we've adopted from previous generations. So with that I will agree with another commenter, I don't think think we'll ever be equal in any form of the word and it is truly sad, but I hope that we get somewhere far where people at least feel comfortable in their skin and take pride in their gender, whether its the same or different from birth sex.

      Ornakian Queen That's very good actually. I applaud that response.
      But keep in mind that violence always plays a key on mankind. If a woman is hit, it's seen as a crime, but if a man is hit it's seemed as something acceptable. However shift the tide to where woman hit men, they just see the man as weak. But if a man hits a woman, it's unacceptable because of these gender morals we have. If she wants equal rights in a world that usually settles rights with violence (wars, revolutions, etc), then she has to contribute to the cause she believes in. She doesn't get to sit back and watch. She needs to act.

      The position of Feminism is arguably... flawed in nature... due to being FEMinist.
      That said, a majority of the things she mentioned in this video are legitimate causes for concern in society.
      That said, they were indeed mainly female related... for a reason... because she stands for Feminism. It is inevitably going to deal with issues biased to females more. Even if the issues are serious i find that to be a little unfair.
      Really, we should all be standing for Gender Equality in general. There are too many issues which put men at a disadvantage and patriarchy has negative effects on men too, if you actually understand what patriarchy means.

      If your hypothetical wife left you, would you not want to have equal opportunity and equal rights over custody of your hypothetical child?
      Yet this doesn't happen in most part, the women almost always ends up being the main carer and gets to spend the most time with them, even if they aren't best suited for whatever reason, yet we still have to provide a significant amount of the money for the child.
      This is one circumstance of male inequality, there is also many for female inequality.
      According to you, we should not try and change these issues.
      These faulty social norms based on patriarchal views as men being the breadwinner and females being the carer of the child need to be diminished, even more so than what lingers on today.

And if I ever hit a man I'd expect him to hit me back twice as hard. And why? Because women are EQUAL to men. And sexism isn't only attacking women nowadays it's attacking men to. Men can't show emotions because it's "girly" or "only girls show emotions" being called a cunt or a pussy is the worst thing that a man can be called. Because men can't be different from each other or dress more feminine, or have long hair, or show emotion because all that stuff is girly. Sexism attacks men just as much as women

Not saying that women don't have history and it's not important but that, generally history was about men.

      I think a quick perusal of the dictionary might help clear things up:
      Feminist (noun): a person who supports feminism.
      Feminism (noun): the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.
      Therefore, since I am a feminist, I am a person who supports the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities.
      Bigot (noun): a person who strongly and unfairly dislikes other people, ideas, etc.
      I don't see how the two ideas come together in my case. Perhaps you could elaborate?

    •  9 років тому +43

      Tongue2Flagpole25 Oh look you can make up your own definitions. . . I know how about we actually go to dictionaries and take a look ourselves?
      Wikipedia: Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights for women.
      Merrian-webster: organized activity in support of women's rights and interests
      Dictionary.com: 1.the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
      2. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
      3. feminine character.
      In all these definitions, the main focus is the betterment of women, not men and women or humanity!
      If you tend to focus on one particular group to the exclusion of others, there is a tendency to marginalize the excluded groups, which ironically was the origin of the feminist complaint of the treatment of women in society.
      So yeah, your'e a sexist bigot.

    • @Cloud_Seeker
      @Cloud_Seeker 8 років тому +49

      +Dynomitez No it isn't, its for equal rights to women and not for everyone. Feminism is an Marxist communistic ideology that is built on that the patriarchy keep women as a social class and is oppressing them. Even when there is no legal inequality today and no one can actually point out what this patriarchy is and who is part of it the patriarchy still exist and keep women oppressed. Women didn't have a right to vote and the evil oppressive patriarchy gave them voting rights..... wait a second here.....

    • @mikasoroczan4906
      @mikasoroczan4906 8 років тому +36

      +Dynomitez Yes, feminism is about equal rights, and this video in not only about women, she mentions, the LGBTQ+ community which consists of all genders. Also most of the examples she is using mostly apply to women, like catcalling, and the wage gap. She never said that men don't have problems, but I see it as her saying all of the problems that affect herself and most women on this planet because at this point we have gotten so far in the fight for equality ( because our society used to be a male superior society) that making all of the problems targeted at women known through media like youtube videos, is helping a lot. Although there are many other problems to both genders that are not mentioned in this video your point that says that there are so many problems with gender inequality targeted at both genders, makes it more of a reason to need feminism.

    • @Cloud_Seeker
      @Cloud_Seeker 8 років тому +40

      Mika soroczan No it doesn't. If you never address mens issues you are missing about 50% of the issues as men are far bigger in number then LGBTQ is. Also LGBTQ doesn't consists of all genders. LGBTQ stands for: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer. I do not see a F or M in there.
      The wage gap is a lie, women are not paid less then males just because they are females. In the US it was made illegal to pay women less then men for the same work in 1963 and was signed by John F. Kennedy. The reason there is a gap is because women tend not to work as much or make choices that is different from men which makes them earn less then men. The "wage gap" is not a gap in what you are paid, its a gap in what you earn. Sure there might be a few cases where females are paid less just because they are females but those are the exception and not the norm.
      She never did say men doesn't have problems true, but she also *NEVER* address the issues as well. You can't stand for equality and never address the other side, if you don't you will never know when you have equality.
      Also you are wrong in the society used to be male dominated. Women might not have often been the final authority in most cases but they have always had power. Just because you do not have as much legal power doesn't mean you do not have social power. Males have in history been legally responsible for everyone in the family, if his wife did something illegal he was held accountable for her crimes and not her. That is the drawback with having legal power, it can and will be used against you. Also let me remind you of 2 big important people. Elizabeth I of England and Catherine the Great of Russia. Both where women that ruled their own countries and became very powerful. Elizabeth was the virgin Queen that never had a man or descendants. Catherine married the Russian prince that was mentally handicapped and took the right to rule away from him in a coup d'etat as he can't in any way rule the country. People have allowed females to rule and females have stepped up for the challenge as well. Women was never treated as cattle before, maybe in biblical times but that was barbarism as well.
      No, we do not need feminism because you people do not know how to fucking handle the world. Lets take this example from Sweden, the worlds first feminist country.
      There was a 12 year old girl and a 17 year old boy from Syria. The boy tricked the girl to come to his apartment and when in his apartment he raped her so hard she started to bleed heavily while he said "black dick is expensive". Ofc he was brought to court and sentenced. Rape does normally give you a minimum of 2 years in prison, this boy got like 1-2 months of community service. COMMUNITY FUCKING SERVICE!!! WHY!! BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK AND A MUSLIM!!! If this was a white boy he should be swing form a lamp post by now with 3-4 years in prison. No, just because he is from Syria and a Muslim everyone went far far easy on him. He didn't even have any mental problems in any way. You do not need feminism because you people do not know how to handle the world. You are a bunch of young teens or city girls that always had your parents help in everything and never spent a days work in your life. You are spoiled brats thinking you know how the world works without recognizing how many men that actually sacrifice themselves for you to keep the society you take for granted going. When was the last time you saw women working in a sewage plant cleaning the grates from used tampons, condoms and used needles? I have never seen a women do that because they do not want equality enough when it gets to the bad stuff. Its only the good stuff they want equality in.

      Women are discriminated against in our society. Femininity is looked down upon. It's advocating for equality between masculinity and femininity; hence, feminism.
      I agree that she should've included how feminism helps men. Sexuality is counter-productive and hurts everyone, including men. That being said, society focuses on masculinity and the power of men. Feminism shouldn't do that too.

    Mines is gonna be short because if i don't keep it that way i will literally go on forever... yes I'm male and yes in 14 but I'm a HUGE feminist because Using woman and there bodies to promote something is demoralising. Using woman as sexual objects is one of the worst acts of sexism. Because young girls/teenagers and even young woman have low confidence if this is the standards you hold them to. Because I'm really sick and tierd of seeing shit posted all over the place and no one ever says anything about. You don't understand that images can ruin the way people treat woman. Some Images tell straight men that's it's ok to think woman are just sexual objects, it's ok to treat woman like they are nothing more than something you throw away after one night, that it's ok to think less of them, that it's ok to catcall at them from across the street, that it's ok to dehumanise them because thee good for nothing apart from serving your needs. I will not continue to stand by and say nothing until I can be sure that my cousin, sister, mother aunt best friends can walk at home on there own without feeling scared or threatened of sex hunger, brain dead idiots that have no respect for woman. Fuck that feels good to let my frustration out

    • @BigTylt
      @BigTylt 10 років тому +61

      If you think that is how women are treated, you are surely mistaken.
      First, the people in those ads do it because they want to do it, and they fucking get paid millions for it.
      Second, if they didn't like their jobs, they would have quit and gone elsewhere.
      Third, it isn't your job to enforce your ideals on what's "demoralizing" onto others.
      Fourth, men are represented to the same extent as women, but in different ways.
      Fifth, in truth, EVERYONE is a sex object. We all were born in order to grow up and have kids, who will then have kids themselves.
      Sixth, in reference to my last point, that is why your "demeaning" objectification happens.
      Seventh, the threat of sexual assault does not only surround women. You're alienating male victims.
      Eighth, okay, be afraid of only the sex offenders, even though they are few and far between...completely ignore the thieves, drug dealers, and gangs that carry out a lot more crimes daily.
      Ninth, If you subscribe so deeply into media that you will believe anything, you are NOT a representation of the average person and there is something wrong with your perception of reality.
      Tenth, feminism isn't the right for equality as you are taught. Modern feminism is the result of some women pinning their shortcomings on gender, so they can become "superior" and not have to face the consequences of their actions.

    • @KateIssyRose

      Feminism IS the support of equality, shaming the name of it is part of what is devaluing the concept itself. No one - man or woman - should support negative connotations surrounding "fem".

    • @TOR1HUNTER

      It flipping annoys me, why should men be refused life saving treatment? And if it's for equality, why does the name surround women? There's so much confusion for it because it starts with fem. And that's why I'm an equalitist. I'm also am an equalitist cause in my country the women fought for equal rights (which is great fantastic even) but every woman seems to think that makes them better than men. And it pisses me off.

      That's because feminism isn't equipped to fix the entire world's problems. There is a common misconception that feminism somehow means egalitarian, I shan't subscribe to this false ideology that feminism is fighting to make _all_ gender issues go away, I'd rather consider myself egalitarian - a word that holds no bias towards a particular gender and doesn't pretend to pander to "all genders" whilst really only focusing on one. As far as I'm concerned, this modernized "feminist" movement is utterly toxic and completely irrelevant to the first world.

      zellarsDD777 Well, to me the word "feminism" refers to "a movement for gender equality, respect for every genders including LGBT. Actually, equality and respect for every human on earth." But the word "feminism" remained because women are the largest minority to be oppressed, and the fight they began long ago was lead by women, so as their legacy it is still called "feminism". But the principle is the same as "equality". That's why I believe in feminism.
      Also, men and LGBT can be as feminist as women can (they already exist !) :)

      Dario Carraresi The first link, I don't care if men are hired over women 2 to 1 because if you look at how much more men work and how much work they do, plus they don't get pregnant and live the job for a year to take care of their baby. Second link, more men are hired for STEM jobs because more men go for jobs in that field. Third link, I don't need to talk about race, this is about the gender equality that western feminist can't see that they have.

    • @dariocarraresi1823
      @dariocarraresi1823 9 років тому +5

      Reece Gardner So:
      - You don't care that women aren't get hired because of gender discrimination. They submitted requests that were _all absolutely identical_, barring the name. Essentially, those hiring managers preferred men over females for no other reason than gender discrimination.
      - The same went for the STEM hiring study. The hiring managers hired mostly men despite the fact that women were more efficent. So, no, the "women work less" excuse is just an excuse.
      - Third, you brought up that it's illegal to pay someone less because of their "gender or *race* or anything like that". That means _jack shit_ if there's still discrimination, as shown above, and the law isn't actually _applied_, as a lot of hiring managers still discriminate with no ripercussion whatsoever.

    • @ReeceGardner69
      @ReeceGardner69 9 років тому +5

      Dario Carraresi I don't care if men get hired over women if it is just 2 to 1. Also how is it sexist that less women are in STEM when it's not sexist that there are more women in Women's studies and teaching. The wage gap does NOT exist. It has been disproved so many times. And yes equal pay is applied because it is the law.

    • @dariocarraresi1823
      @dariocarraresi1823 9 років тому +3

      Reece Gardner You got that backwards. Those studies demonstrate that it doesn't matter if a woman is more productive than a man, even in STEM - the man will be chosen of hiring/promotion. That's discrimination by definition - because it isn't based on merit. If it was, the women would've been chosen, since they eithe had the _exactly identical qualifications_ as men (1st link), or were _more productive_ than men (2nd link).
      The same went for that study on racial discrimination: the applications were _identical_ barring the name, so the only variable was whether the applicant had a foreign-sounding name (and thus was probably foreign), or not. Result: non-foreign names were favored.
      Have you even read those links?
      Also: if gender and racial discrimination don't exist because they're illegal, then how do you explains those results? Magic?

      I'm a straight guy and probably one of the most gung-ho feminists in my women's history class because I think a single label shouldn't be the sole reason a person couldn't support a movement. Do you not value individuality? I mean, pretty much everyone does to some extent, I would imagine. How can you not see how these gender roles get in the way of that? They value simplicity over freedom of thought and expression. They were constructed to maintain the status quo. But anything that contradicts your understanding of them is an "other" to be feared or disgusted by. Xenophobia at its finest.

      Yes, they are important. But, as a male, and this could also involve your age too, you don't necessarily understand the crud that women have to go through. Things like less payment, sexual harassment, and being compared to as the 'weaker sex' are normal, everyday things for some
      women. Tell me, have you ever walked down the street and been briefly and rudely hit on by a woman? I think not. Has your co- worker that you have the exact same job as gotten twice the amount you did, even if they missed a day when you did not? And, when you grow up, you will not have to (not all women do it) give birth to a child and sometimes be cut open to get to said child? Oh yeah, and on a monthly basis have blood come out of you? And horrid cramps that feel like someone stabbed you in the stomach? Yeah, you shall never understand.

      @mlsrefssuck 8 років тому +21

      +CaAngel Sister Yeah I've asked some girls about this and all of them told me that when guys hit on them, its usually always respectful. The case of some random guy being totally inappropriate happens once in a blue moon. Believe it or not, most guys are not douches. And about the unequal pay, the figure you're referring to is an average number across multiple jobs and it is of TOTAL earnings, it is not comparing hourly wage person by person. And on AVERAGE, women tend to major in things that lead to jobs with less pay, plus things like maternity leave do play a part in total money earned. If in fact a woman is getting payed less than her male counterpart for the same job and have worked the same hours, you can easily take that to court and win. And no, the court will not discriminate because you're a women (actually courts tend to be lenient towards women compared to men). And what do you want men to do about the whole birth and menstruation thing? That is simply human anatomy and physiology.
      Each sex has their own struggles. It's not fair to say that women should be treated special because they're unhappy. Trust me, men have problems that women don't understand either.

    The fact that there are actually people in the comment section bashing feminism is beyond disgusting. EVERYONE deserves fair treatment and the ability to make our own decisions about our bodies!!!

      Male circumcision has nothing to do with feminism.

    • @HeartsAlwaysRemember

      Please look back to where I said "everyone deserves the ability to make decisions about their bodies" If an infant is circumcised then the ability to choose what happens to their body is taken away. It isn't necessarily a part of feminism but it is on the same page of taking people's choice away is wrong.

      That's not all there is to feminism, its about achieving equality for women, and everyone really, feminism has always been linked to other civil rights movements. Feminism is about eliminating gender roles and treating EVERYONE as a person. It started with the right to vote and have a job, but it has gone beyond that now.

      ***** Oh absolutely! If I were to hurt you, I would expect you to do the same back! But the thing is, I don't put my hands on people, but yes, I do believe that women can be just as abusive as men and if they are they should receive the same punishment.

    Crazy how times have changed and you were once demonized for providing this completely logical argument to the world. Thank you for speaking out for those who were afraid to speak on this because of the misogynists that ruled the internet back then.

      Um not really she actually was really annoying back then and perpetuating falsehoods like the wage gap. She got slot cooler over the years and eventually stepped away from the radical feminist community and embraced her more open minded nature. If anything this video didn't age well lol. Also who are these misogynists? You're referring to a time when people would call you a racist or sexist simply for not being as far left as them. The only difference is those people managed to gain influence on youyubes higher ups so you can't even say certain words without being demonized.

      You are a feminist because you are a moron. Its people like you that played identity politics with reckless abandon to the point where men are now destroying women in womens sports. Thanks so much for that sunshine.

      @@pyroAdapt misogyny is not as simple as you think it is. It is very complex and it’s very deep in our society’s mindset, sadly.
      Misogyny is, for example:
      People thinking that women aren’t ‘made” for more intellectually demanding jobs or they aren’t supposed to be scientists.
      Seeing care and nurturing as a feminine things
      Expecting women to be wives and mothers but not for example doctors, lawyers, entrepreneurs etc.
      The ban on abortion (which basically means that women are not made to decide what’s good for their bodies. The ban on abortion gives power to men to decide what women can do and what they can’t do)
      Women being seen as emotional by men rational and logical
      And so on

      Sebeki 2 When people draw the distinction between sex and and gender, they usually refer to gender as the social constructions around sex.

    • @BernardoPatino
      @BernardoPatino 8 років тому

      Sebeki 2 Some societies have, for example, a different gender for trans women. Why is it a gender? Because these people don't fit with what they'd call 'real women' or 'real men'. You could argue that it is trabsphobic, but these categories don't really assign them to the gender they were assigned at birth. And you know why they're valid? Because a lot of these transgender people actually identify as that category, so they ARE that category. The scientific term for these genders is 'cogenders'.

      Jaden Sheets No, not hypocritical, not all feminist fit that stereotype, and she only fits one of the one's she listed. All she did was state that there is a stereotype, and she happened to fit one criterion. Nothing about that is hypocritical.
