Hey everyone! It was time for ANOTHER band we haven’t checked out! The only song we previously knew was “Smoke On The Water” but we LOVED this one! What’s another good one by them??? 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Sorry Son but I agree with Dad - let him just trim your hair an inch or so. As far as Deep Purple goes you have to react to the studio version of Child in Time - one of the Greatest Epic Rock Tunes of All Time. 2.72K subsribers and counting !!!
Hey M K! I guess I gotta let him cut it! And about child in time, we’ve heard a lot about it so when we come back to them, that might be the song! Hope your staying safe! -S
@@reallymysterious4393 Agreed that Studio version is best to listen first. They usually change some parts live. After the studio version, Made in Japan performance is ridiculously epic but it's better to know the song beforehand.

Purple co-invented Metal. This was the beginning. Ritchie Blackmore's solo was revolutionary at the time, and triggered the shredding revolution that continues to this day.
Deep Purple are recognised as being one of the best live bands there's ever been! Their live album, 'Made in Japan' is rated by many as the best live album of all-time! It completely changed the way that live albums were viewed. Before Made in Japan live albums were fairly uncommon and were often just a cheap way for the label to make a little extra money. After Made in Japan live albums became more and more common and they were no longer viwed as a cheap 'throwaway' option. Btw, this song was written in about 15 minutes, in the back of a tour bus, as a result of a journalist asking how they wrote songs. They performed it, live, that same night! :)
Yes and there were almost no overdubs.... A true live recording. I could listen to MADE IN JAPAN everyday and never get bored. The band was at their peak in my opinion.
That's what I'm talking about. My favorite song of the early 70s. Nearly cost me my drivers license. Fathers don't let your sons drive while listening to Highway Star.
YEESSSS! I'm so glad you guys chose Highway Star as your first DP reaction. The organ solo by Jon Lord and guitar solo by Ritchie Blackmore are both fantastic!! Edit: your father would definitely know the song Hush! This iteration of Deep Purple had five great musicians at the absolute top of their game, especially Gillen's vocals, Jon Lord's organ, and Blackmore's guitar -- you two are very fun to watch on reactions!
One of the English holy trinity alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, all so different but all founders of what became Heavy Metal. What set Purple apart was the Hammond organ of the late Jon Lord which added the the guitar genius of Ritchie Blackmore. Ian Gillan is my favourite male vocalist of all time and has this unique ability of being able to sing scream and rich some seriously high notes, check out Child in Time. He was the original singer on the album Jesus Christ Superstar and would have done the stage show but for the fact Purple had become huge and had outstanding commitments. A long history, I'll leave you to read up on it, suffice to say it's interesting reading especially the rift between Gillan and Blackmore which brought an end to the Mark 2 Purple (the best mark and the one everybody thinks of as the real Deep Purple). They continue to tour with Ian Gillan, Roger Glover and Ian Paice still cutting the mustard even in their early seventies (obviously, the high notes have gone and you'll understand when you listen to Child in Time) Jon Lord has sadly passed and Ritchie Blackmore prefers to dabble in medieval rock which is actually awesome. New album about to be released and a world tour, pandemic permitting. Stay safe guy's.
Hi guys! You opened a can of worms with this band. They are one of the best classic rock bands out there, form a sort of "hard rock trinity" with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. What distinct their sound the most is the influence of the keyboards, played by THE AMAZING Jon Lord, who sadly passed away in 2012, more in particular his hammond organ, in combination with the guitar. And they also have had great vocalists , the one you hear here is Ian Gillan. I first knew about Deep Purple when i was about the Son age (sorry don't know your name xD) but not from my father, i had to wait for a school friend to tell me. He named a couple of songs (this one included) and they inmediately became a favourite band of mine. They have a HUGE history with a lot of different line up changes. The line up you heard in this song (MK II) is mostly regarded as one of the best if not the best, same album as Smoke on the Water. Then there were issues among band members (long history short, the guitarist and also founder of the band - great Ritchie Blackmore - has a complicated personality and ditched the vocalist and bassist because he wanted a change of sound) and MK III came, which resulted in another great era with a more funky sound. Afterwards Blackmore left to found Rainbow (another AMAZING band), they splitted up, then came back later, more line up changes, and i kind of lost the track..... but the golden era was certainly in the past. Although i listened about a new single they released a few weeks ago and doesn't sound bad at all. As for live? Well, they have arguably the best live album ever made: Made In Japan, which showcases most of the great songs from the MK II era, including Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, Child in Time, Lazy, Space Truckin'...it was a legendary performance. Some songs from the MK III era: Burn, Mistreated, Soldier of Fortune, Stormbringer. All amazing as well. Anyways i'm looking forward to see you react more of this band, it's great to see you learn about stuff I love. Greetings!
Machine Head from Deep Purple 1971. 49 years ago! Same record as Smoke on the Water. One of the classic rock records of all time. In the 70's the cops made a lot of money giving speeding tickets due to this song. This song was a big hit and got lots of radio airplay. They also had hits "My Woman from Tokyo" , "Space Truckin", "Speed King", "Strange Kind of Woman" & of course "Lazy". All of these early songs got airplay. Then in 1984 they released "Perfect Strangers" which had two hits, the song "Perfect Strangers" & "Knockin on your Back Door". Both received lots of airplay. There are 3 early bands who all were formed in the late 60's who are considered the godfathers of hard rock/heavy metal. Black sabbath, Led Zeppelin, & Deep Purple. Look it up it is the facts. And among those bands most guitarists would tell you that Ritchie Blackmore was the most influential and the craziest. If you want to see some over the top performances check out Deep Purple live at the California Jam from 1974. ua-cam.com/video/mqgBgFKpFIQ/v-deo.html This is the second half of the song "Space Truckin". Ritchie goes free form jamming and destroys several guitars and some of his amplifiers explode and catch fire on stage. He also destroys one of the cameras that was filming this show for television. This is one of the most crazy rock episodes in history. After the show he hid in some equipment cases, because the police were looking to arrest him. He left the backstage area and boarded the helicopter that brought the band to the show.
HUGE Deep Purple fan here. Highway Star is the first track on the live album Made In Japan. Check it out. DO NOT make the same mistake as many, and underrate the keyboard player, Jon Lord. Ritchie Blackmore (gtr) and Ian Gillan (vcls) are the front of the band, but Lord was the heart. A nice guy too, apparently. He decided to step away and do his own (classical) music as well as health reasons (cancer), and session player Don Airey became the new member. Lord's last project was Concerto for Group and Orchestra. I can't even... He passed away in 2012, I was completely gutted. Deep Purple's guitarist was Ritchie Blackmore. Check out Deep Purple's "Made in Japan" live album. IMO, the tracks on that album are better than the studio versions. Also, it's funny you talk about wishing you were driving. Top Gear (back when it was Clarkson, Hammond, and May) held a vote to see what the audience considered the best driving song, and this one won.
YES YES YES YES!!!!!!! I love Deep Purple so much. I was introduced to them at the age of 14 and never looked back. They were/are absolutely HUGE worldwide, just not here in the states... actually, just like Nightwish, come to think of it. I gave you a list of DP songs before, but here's a couple more... Space Truckin Speed King Burn Stormbringer Hush
The ultimate driving song, except dont try it, its a guaranteed speeding ticket! - you cannot help but go faster listening to this. The best version is the live Made in Japan album version (you will hear many recommendations to this classic album) They’re a blues/Rhythm and blues based band that were one of the three founders of heavy rock. Musical talent of the highest level. Try Child in Time. Strange kind of woman. Lazy, Space Trucking, Blacknight, Burn, Mistreated, Soldier of Fortune. Nobody does blues based rock better. Zeppelin excepted Yes cut his hair when hes not looking.
Hi gents, found your channel when you did Grand Funk and posted your vid on GFR'S FB page . I've made many awesome suggestions in the past but gave up. But since you're climbing into the Deep purple rabbit hole, here's a few great DP suggestions: Pictures of Home Lazy Burn Space Truckin' Child in time Soldier of Fortune ( mellow but great tune). Stay healthy gents!
Probably in the top four rock bands of all time! Check out live versions of their best tracks on Made In Japan including this track. But myfavourite on that album is Lazy. Made in Japam is rated amongst the best live albums ever recorded! Great reaction by the way 🙂
In This Moment - We Will Rock You (Queen cover) & Fly Like An Eagle (Steve Miller Band cover) from their new album 'Mother'. Everyone needs some Maria Brink in their lives.
Lol, great stuffs. This reminds me of back in the day when I was in my room. Laying on the floor with my radio close to me listening to the classics when my parents slept, lol! Enjoy your 'hair's time young man. The day will come, great reaction as always. Keep it fun, as always- much love&respect-!- Ps, this song is one of the most covered songs in history!!
That’s so great! I’m glad we can bring back memories. It’s always great to see you here Ron and we hope you are doing well and staying safe. Keep rockin🤘❤️-S
@@fatherandsonreactions I won't lie, I have my hard days. But at the end of the day, I'm still here, so I keep going. Memories like this and seeing y'all help make it easier. Thank you for what y'all do! Never thought it could be this wild huh? Much love&respect always🤘💜
Oh man, DP! You have a number of songs ahead to enjoy big time. Definitely do some live versions as they are a power to behold in a live setting! And nah, he don't need a haircut! When I was his age a few decades ago my hair was half way down my back! HAHA
Thanks for your reaction. Some old-school, great! Now you need something a bit different from DP. "Maybe I´m a Leo", "Never Before", "Space Truckin´", "Lazy".
About Purple. Greatest Hard-Rock band to have ever walked this earth. Started in 68, and still going. New album to be released next August. It will be their 21st studio album. All the songs already suggested are great recommendations and I endorse you guys checking them out (especially Child in Time). But I'll make a different suggestion: Hard Lovin' Man. I'll blow your socks off. ;)
Another great drive song is Radar Love by The Golden Earring, preferably a live version. Also, done Led Zeppelin yet? Say Rain Song, and of course look for a live version.
More Deep Purple? Sure.. im 31 and theyre my fav band. Strange kind of woman- live made in japan Child in time- original Stormbringer- original BURN- Original (its like highway stars baby brother.)
Love Deep Purple.....But but but...Back to Nightwish...You guys want it more heavy..........Devil and the deep dark ocean from live in Boenos aires....Love you reactions..Keep it up :-D
Great song. I only know a few songs of Deep Purple, so this one was new for me too. Another epic song of them is "Child in Time", which might be even bigger than "Smoke on the water". There's a top 2000 of all time every year in the Netherlands and "Child in Time" is still one of the highest ranking songs. It's usually in or near the top 10. @son: good luck with those hiccups and hide all the scissors for your father :P
Deep Purple was one of the of the top 3 heavy metal innovators to come out of the UK, along with Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. After the guitarist ( Ritchie Blackmore) left the band he formed the band Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio. You should listen to Stargazer. Won't get into the haircut debate as I still let my freak flag fly! Glad to see you're doing well. Will be back for the next one.❤✌🤘🤘🤘
HI Jeff! Glad to see you still here and hopefully rockin’ on! We were really happy after this video because we really liked the song. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Stargazer though 🤔 As always good to see you and stay safe!! ❤️ ❤️ 🤘 -S
Nobody ever did take their car... They've never been topped. One of the truly great bands here guys. Wanna do some deep cuts? Go back in the catalog to the album "The Book Of Taliesin" DP classic albums - Machine Head, Live in Tokyo. Yep. You're in for a ride. Wanna know a trick next time you get hiccups? Swallow a teaspoon of sugar and they'll stop. Done any Blue Oyster Cult yet?
This song never charted in the USA when it came out in 1972, so if it was played on the radio at all, it would've mostly been on the AOR (album-oriented rock) stations in certain markets, not on the usual top-40 stations. So that may be why you haven't heard of it before. Their biggest hits were "Smoke on the Water", and "Hush" from their 1968 album "Shades of Deep Purple."
@@thetruthhurts6652 Well, I was speaking in terms of "top 40" hits, specifically. "Space Trucking" and "Woman From Tokyo" also became staples of the AOR scene here in the USA -- but in 1972, AOR stations weren't a coast-to-coast phenomenon; they were mostly concentrated in California and New York, or in college towns or cities with active music scenes, where you had large numbers of young listeners looking for alternatives to the standard top-40 pop. So if you didn't live in one of those areas and didn't have an AOR station in receiving range, it would have been entirely possible to have missed hearing most of what we *now* consider Deep Purple's "big hits" because they didn't get played on the more common Top-40 / Pop stations.
Bally Astrocade So true that Deep Purple certainly wasn’t played on radio stations who only played what we used to call “bubble gum” music. That would be the same for bands like Led Zeppelin, Yes, ELP, etc. I was fortunate that while I was growing up there always an FM station that played the music I liked.
Just listen to the album '`Deep Purple in Rock' you will not go wrong. These guys and Black Sabbath invented heavy metal/ rock in the late sixties/early seventies.
Another great Purple song! Some have said that ian Gillan's vocals were an influence on the heavy metal bands that came in the 80's like iron Maiden and Judas Priest or that the band themselves were "proto-metal'. I guess some aspects could be considered forerunners of heavy metal. The fast leads, high vocals and the driving drum & bass were pretty heavy for their day. Just great rock n roll is what it is. Here is a song by an artist that I know very little about. I don't know if he was just a one-hit wonder or not, but this is the only song I know by Billy Thorpe, called Children Of The Sun (ua-cam.com/video/RGPUBSQLgfs/v-deo.html). Cheers!
Eh, not my kind of tune personally, but glad you guys enjoyed it! I listened to a couple of their songs a long while ago, and I will say that Deep Purple's vocalist can get SUPER high pitched in some tracks, and it may surprise you both. I may post this once a week, so here's my personal list again, all with little to no harsh vocals: Cynic (prog. Metal/Jazz fusion) - A Space for This Devin Townsend Project ( prog. Metal/rock) - Kingdom (live on EMGtv) Animals as Leaders (prog. Metal/jazz/instrumental) - The Woven Web I think Kingdom is the less complex of the three. Cynic has pretty complex rhythms, but it's a personal favorite of mine from them. 🙂 All are different from what you reacted recently, though. But could be a good thing? Maybe not? Haha P. S. Live dangerously! Let your Dad cut your hair! 😛
Having second thoughts with the Cynic track... Not sure if I'm starting you in the deep end or not. If you want something less complex from them, then maybe Lion's Roar would be a better choice. Up to you. :)
Live you might want to listen to the Made in Japan version and for other songs you should do Child in Time, Woman From Tokyo, Burn, Hush. DP weren’t a singles band yet they sold over 100 million albums. They had 4 albums in the top selling 100 albums of the 70s and all those albums came out from 69 to 74. So yes they were huge.
Why all Americans get crazy about Zeppelin? Deep Purple were much more better, musically, technically, inventive and so on. The rest world know Purple is a hard rock band number 1.
You will love the last album they made called Perfect Strangers. I know you will love " Mean Streak " which is not a song on the main stream but gives you the raw power of this band. Richie Blackmore is one of my mentors from back in the day. Zepplin was good , but Blackmore was just tighter , better and more refined as a guitar player .
Set a subscriber goal, then if and when you reach it, the kid gets it! A haircut from dear old Dad, that is. I saw another reactor do the same thing, except the bet was the dad would be shaved bald by his daughter LOL. And he was, much to his chagrin, although of course I'm sure it was worth it to him or he wouldn't have suggested it in the first place.
Deep Purple. They only sold over 100 million albums. In Japan they were bigger than the Beatles in Germany outsold every other band in the world. Other Gems by Deep Purple are.... shit every single song especially 69 to 73.
Oh and I forgot to mention that Deep Purple Spin-off bands include Whitesnake, Rainbow and Gillan who were all huge either in USA or rest of the world.
I saw someone perform brain surgery once so......,had an aunt cut my hair when I was 15, NO,NO,NO!!! Many great DP songs to react to, Perfect Strangers, Black Knight, or Burn. Watch Deep Purple, California Jam explosion, not for a reaction, just to see things get out of control, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore was just a bit pissed off. Sad that singer Ian Gillian and guitarist Blackmore just couldn’t get along. Hang in there guys.

Space Truckin
Speed King
Burn
Stormbringer
Hush
The ultimate driving song, except dont try it, its a guaranteed speeding ticket! - you cannot help but go faster listening to this.
The best version is the live Made in Japan album version (you will hear many recommendations to this classic album)
They’re a blues/Rhythm and blues based band that were one of the three founders of heavy rock. Musical talent of the highest level.
Try Child in Time. Strange kind of woman. Lazy, Space Trucking, Blacknight, Burn, Mistreated, Soldier of Fortune. Nobody does blues based rock better. Zeppelin excepted
Yes cut his hair when hes not looking.
Deep Purple in Rock led me to metal. The song Flight of the Rat is a must. It rocks hard and the musicianship is incredible. Great job guys
I love this song, one of my favorites
Hi gents, found your channel when you did Grand Funk and posted your vid on GFR'S FB page . I've made many awesome suggestions in the past but gave up. But since you're climbing into the Deep purple rabbit hole, here's a few great DP suggestions:
Pictures of Home
Lazy
Burn
Space Truckin'
Child in time
Soldier of Fortune ( mellow but great tune).
Stay healthy gents!
Good one and classic 🤩 still waiting for the Van Halen live without a net guitar solo 😝🤪😁stay safe and God bless
CHILD IN TIME! LIVE IN JAPAN in that time. YOU WOULD BE BLOWNED AWAY
Great choice! Ritchie Blackmore! 🔥🎸
Oh man, DP! You have a number of songs ahead to enjoy big time. Definitely do some live versions as they are a power to behold in a live setting! And nah, he don't need a haircut! When I was his age a few decades ago my hair was half way down my back! HAHA
check out solo Tommy Bolin "Post Toastee". Tommy replaced Richie Blackmore when he left DP.
Thanks for your reaction. Some old-school, great! Now you need something a bit different from DP. "Maybe I´m a Leo", "Never Before", "Space Truckin´", "Lazy".
This is the best driving song ever made!
Guaranteed speeding ticket...
I'll blow your socks off. ;)
One of my fav early metal bands. Try the live version of Child In Time from Made in Japan LP. Great reaction as always.
Wring that neck Live version.. Amazing. Yes there is a live version of Highway Star. Do check it out.
Another great drive song is Radar Love by The Golden Earring, preferably a live version.
Also, done Led Zeppelin yet? Say Rain Song, and of course look for a live version.
This is my favorite driving song. Be careful it's been known to cause a case of leadfoot lol ☮️
More Deep Purple?
Sure.. im 31 and theyre my fav band.
Strange kind of woman- live made in japan
Child in time- original
Stormbringer- original
BURN- Original (its like highway stars baby brother.)
Wanna see Floor Jansen's musical beginnings?
"After Forever - Energize Me (Official Video)" 🤘
@@fatherandsonreactions Stargazer is a song by the band Rainbow. ✌
Oh haha! I thought it was the band!! 😂-S
"Pictures of Home" has the same driving sound; the whole Machine Head album
Use to jam them on the 8 track in a 1970 Chevelle burning the tires off 🤪
Nobody ever did take their car...
Great song from a great album. One of my other favorite is "Pictures of Home".
Good start, DP needs further exploration, you won't be disappointed.
I actually saw them live in Miami,at the time they were one of the loudest bands.
Savatage...Prelude to madness/The Hall of the mountain king pls! Tks guys... Rock on
This song never charted in the USA when it came out in 1972, so if it was played on the radio at all, it would've mostly been on the AOR (album-oriented rock) stations in certain markets, not on the usual top-40 stations. So that may be why you haven't heard of it before. Their biggest hits were "Smoke on the Water", and "Hush" from their 1968 album "Shades of Deep Purple."
In USA yes but in Europe Black Night was huge along with Strange Kind of Woman, Space Trucking, Highways Star, Woman From Tokyo and a few more.
When ever you listen to a deep purple song, try and listen to it off the made in Japan album. Child in time for example.
Michael Cunis this man tells no lie
You guys need to watch dazed and confused, great movie, great car's, with tune's
Just listen to the album '`Deep Purple in Rock' you will not go wrong. These guys and Black Sabbath invented heavy metal/ rock in the late sixties/early seventies.
you know what's a good cure for the hiccups?? A haircut !!!!!
LOL!! I see what you did there. That's a parent power-play. 👍
You must listen to BLACK NIGHT ! Deep purple is a great great band ! PEACE TO THE WORLD !!!!
Cheers!
Live version of "Child in Time"...Please
Eh, not my kind of tune personally, but glad you guys enjoyed it! I listened to a couple of their songs a long while ago, and I will say that Deep Purple's vocalist can get SUPER high pitched in some tracks, and it may surprise you both.
I may post this once a week, so here's my personal list again, all with little to no harsh vocals:
Cynic (prog. Metal/Jazz fusion) - A Space for This
Devin Townsend Project ( prog. Metal/rock) - Kingdom (live on EMGtv)
Animals as Leaders (prog. Metal/jazz/instrumental) - The Woven Web
I think Kingdom is the less complex of the three. Cynic has pretty complex rhythms, but it's a personal favorite of mine from them. 🙂
All are different from what you reacted recently, though. But could be a good thing? Maybe not? Haha
P. S. Live dangerously! Let your Dad cut your hair! 😛
Having second thoughts with the Cynic track... Not sure if I'm starting you in the deep end or not. If you want something less complex from them, then maybe Lion's Roar would be a better choice. Up to you. :)
Listen to the whole Machine Head album you won't be disappointed... Thanks Guys keep rockin
"Hush" or "Space Trucking" should be next and your style. S don't let F touch your hair, especially if he uses the weedwacker he used on his. LOL
Caught Somewhere In Time by Iron Maiden 🤟🏼 🤟🏼🤟🏼🤘🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤘🤟🏼🤟🏼🤘🤘🤘🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
please do CHILD IN TIME by purple. either studio or made in japan. pleeeeeeaaase :-)
yep! child in time studio version you'll like it!
Why all Americans get crazy about Zeppelin? Deep Purple were much more better, musically, technically, inventive and so on. The rest world know Purple is a hard rock band number 1.
Metallica learned from them.
The boy is learning... :)
Iron Maiden. - The Trooper.
PERFECT!
This high.star song is awesome
It’s sure is! -S
nice opening up a can of old school rock.
I vote let the hair grow .. I'm kinda jealous I wish I was his age Again hearing this for the first time again .
Awesome
Deep purple - child in time live
Please do Deep Purple's Lazy! You will not be sorry!
Haha that’s not a bad idea! -S
check out Burb from their 1974 album.
Check out Space trucking, My woman from Tokyo, Burn, 😊👍👌👍😊💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
We’ve done Burn! Will definitely check out the others 😊 -S
Check out some Star Wars Metal from Seattle. Hoth - Serpentine Whispers.
If you want live. Do the Chicken Foot cover it is excellent.
Saw them in Germany in 1971.
That’s awesome! -S
When are you gonna do Pantera again? Been waiting ...
Shave your head... May as well... It'll be grown back by the time you can go out in public again. Keep rockin' guys!
your probably not wrong! Keep rockin’ as well and stay safe!! -S
Check out the album In Rock 🤘🤘
As a metalhead, no, I think he needs to grow his hair even longer hahaha jk of course!
Lazy! You gotta do Lazy.
I think the closest thing to this song is from the album before. The song Speed King is just fast paced rock and Ian Gillan screaming
Wanna see a cool cover of this look up Alter Bridge cover this back in 2004 or 2005.
Check out 'Soldier of fortune'. Please.
How do you expect to windmill with short hair?
