Would have been easier to read the DTC first, just to confirm that the O2 sensor was the issue, before going through all that! Easy fix though and as you say, nice and easy to work on.
On my C1 I have a PO420 Error displaying, Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1 would this be likely to be the oxygen sensor? Also my engine management light seems to be not working, when does the engine management light display? is it when the ignition is on only and not the engine running?
@@jazzyman99 In your case it could be that the catalytic converter has degraded and needs replacing. I would consult a professional at that point. The check engine light should be illuminated while the engine is running if there is an active fault.
If I well remember, even without erasing the DTC, after 5 times of "good working" - turn on the car, have some minutes of good working, and turn the engine off, with key removal, waiting some minutes, the dtc will be clear automatically by the system, having the "memorized" status and not active status. It won't harm it, but electrical contact cleaners may contain more alcohols than hydrocarbons which will be less effective at dissolving the built up carbon on the sensor.

Do not kid yourself with such rubbish ideas! Just make sure you get your fuel from a "clean" source. Your pump contacts are clean and totally free of corrosion, etc. Or in other words, with the maintenance up to scratch! ;-)
How to disconnect the the cable from its frame fixture on the left of the sensor, about 9 inches from the sensor. It has a rubber seating - can it just be pulled away as you seem to have done? Otherwise it is difficult to pull (slide) out the cable - is that connector just a push fit or is it clipped in somehow? Please advise - thanks.
Hi. Sorry I don't have the car anymore to check, but from memory the rubber pops out of the bracket it sits in (be persistent and it will pop out). The plug is a push fit, but you need to press a plastic tab to release it. The plug itself slides into a little plastic mount fixed to the engine. Hope this helps.
There is a second oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter, just under the engine. The fault code you mention is possibly indicating a fault in that sensor.
