I lived in New Jersey for most of my life and I eventually learned how the pleading down process of speeding tickets work in municipal court . The municipality has to kick a percentage of the fine up to the state however I don't recall the percentage, perhaps its about half . The result is the prosecutor will be more than happy to plead you down to an offense that is not speed related e.g. seat belts , parking , and keep all that sweet , sweet money from your fine in the town .

@@schwenk929yea it’s disgusting how the police sit around looking for someone to not stop at a stop sign long enough with nobody around or someone going 7 over the speed limit especially if it’s not a dangerous speed and not a busy time so they can get more money. I got stopped one time cause a cop had someone pulled over but their was like 10 cops there so I was driving I looked over while I was at the light cause their was so many cops there to see what was going on and a cop locked eyes with me and he immediately hops In his car and speeds to get behind me and he followed me and followed me and it was like midnight or so I was just done delivering pizza at the time going home and he followed me until I made a turn at a light and I put my signal on and he stopped me anyways and i asked why did you pull me over and he had a sht ton of attitude like it was wrong to ask why I was pulled over and than he doesn’t tell me than asks again for my license an insurance and when he comes back he said I pulled you over cause you didn’t have your turn signal on for 150 feet before turning which I couldn’t prove that I did cause I don’t know how long 150 feet are and what exact time I put it on and when he gets back he asks can I search your car? I said no why what did I do wrong he said well I don’t care it smells like weed in your car I’m searching your car and he pulls me out by my face cause he was mad for no reason and puts me in cuffs and puts me in the back seat of his car while he illegally searches my car and he doesn’t find anything and he opens the door and says we’ll I’m gonna let you go with just a warning and I get up to get out his back seat and he slams me back and I hit my head in his plastic ass seat and he says I’m not done talking I’m just gonna give you a ticket for the turn signal since you don’t want to be respectful to me and so I got a ticket for not having my signal on for 150 feet before turning and I probably had it on for well over 100 feet but this was when I was younger so I didn’t think to fight the ticket I just paid it in the mail but he beat on me so I should have fought it but it was before the body cameras so I couldn’t prove it I’m sure

"Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side when he sees the big red light behind him... and then will start apologizing, begging for mercy. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart... what you want to do then is _accelerate."_

I’ve learned to drive like Rob, but managed to do it when I was pretty young because, admittedly, I rode dirt bikes down the street to get to trails and stuff. So I had to learn to look out for cops pretty early. After that, my encouragement to keep alert for where cops may be was that my parents would kill me if I got a ticket, because I was on their insurance. I’ve only been pulled over for speeding once, and it was a time where I was going just as fast as the rest of traffic. But it got knocked down to a parking ticket, and the fine went up. I was a bit concerned about it because I’m under 25, so my insurance is already terribly high, but then my buddy told me he got pulled over in the same area around a week beforehand, and got it knocked down to a non-moving, and he was speeding much worse than I was. So at that point I wasn’t too worried.

However, he did front me the 900 that my first car cost. I paid him off completely in three months. I have had a lot of nice cars in my life (I'm 64 now) and I was always a bit prouder to own them knowing I earned every nickel that was involved in their purchase and operation. I got ticketed in a mustang in 2004 in whitchita falls TX for 129 in a 65. He clocked me going faster than that. The officer was a little bit older and I was 19. He lowered me to 1 mph under double the speed limit and didn’t take me to jail. I was in the Air Force at the time fresh out of boot camp. Thank God for generous cops. All the highway patrol guys wanted to take me to jail but this guy cut me a hell of a break! I would still thank that man today if I ever came across him. He’s probably long retired by now but he was a good guy for cutting me somewhat of a break.

I have a good one to: Some 5-6 years ago I was on my first trip to the US. I had some work to do in Bahamas whit out knowing the end date, so no return tickets. And on my trip back to EU I needed to go to our office in Savannah first. When I landed in Miami I found out that there was no direct connection to Savannah, and had like to change 2 or 3 planes. I love to drive, so yeah why not rent a car. I asked for a US Muscle car, as yeah all EU cars a boring over here ;-) (once got a Volvo SUV as upgrade. That was disappointing ! ) So they had a brand new Challenger. Yes me like a lot ! :-) I got my Challenger and just before I left the kind lady from the rental said "Don't speed it can cost you time in jail" Yeah I will not speed... Miami beach here I come ! That was on my bucket list, so got to the beach dipped my toes in the water, found a fancy place to eat and I lost track of time. Befor I got out of Miami on the 95 it was dark. There was a storm alert all over on the news all the time. When I decided to go, it was on my left behind me all the time, not hitting the 95 just couple of miles out or so. oh.. yeah just to add: My great planing was that I could have a meeting in Savannah 9am next day. No issues right ? I filled up the passenger seat with candy, redbulls and jerky just to keep me going. At some point up the 95 I was running out of petrol, so I pulled up to a random gas-station, and goes what? they had high octane ! :-) ( Totally normal in EU). Right after entering Georgia 3am I was to tired to drive, so I made a quick fresh air stop in Kingsland. Upon returning to the car, I figured out that there was a 0 to 60 measure thing in my challenger, and someone had sat a time in it. So that got me thinking if it was set with high octane fule ? :-) When I got op in the 95 again there was like no cars at all, so I put the pedal to the ground from stand still on the ramp, and I got a new record. Next thought was " let's pump some adrenaline in to my body" so I kept the pedal to the ground, and the next thing was a bright light to my face. I instantly know what it was. A police spot light. I released the speeder and pulled over.. The officer was there in a short time.
imagine the smell in the car.. me traveling all most 24hours, red bull, candy, etc.. I imagined that by the cops facial expression when I rolled my window down. So his first question was not me speeding, but what drugs I was doing. I politely answered whatever is on the passenger seat, and that is not drugs.
He then asked me for my driver licens and why I was doing 130+mph. He got my licens and I replied that I was not aware of how fast I was driving. He looked at the strange plastic card I just gave him, and asked me what it was. It is my driver licens and I gave him my passport as my ID. That made him go in overdrive, he clicked at started yelling at me on how I could make my self speed in his country etc.. I was like sorry sorry sorry mode. He throw a ticket at me and asked me to pay up. Where I'm from the ticket is send to you, if you don't pay the will take it them self from you salary, and we don't have cash on us, as all use their plastic cards for everything. Me explaining that to him made him glow in the dark from rage. He got back to his car, and got back at some point, totally come like another man. He explained to me that he was willing to let me go, but he had a trainee with him, and he had reported my speed violation back to the office before talking to me, so he could not just let me off with 110mph ticket. I was asked to follow him to a bank where I could withdraw the amount of the ticket. I did that.. used My Mastcard in the machine, and the damn machine did not want to take my card ? Officer asked me what's wrong, and I explained the situation. So apparently it's not possible to use a Debit card after 10pm? great!! what's the next destination ? Jail! We arrived at the Police station, where I was explained that I had a last chance if I use a company that can bail me out. So yeah.. me thinking "I'M NOT going to jail" called that company. At the other end was a sweet young lady, that used like 45min or so to try to enter my forrent address in to her computer software. She gave up and woke here boss, who then stud up and drove to work 4:30am or so. I the mean time I was chatting and joking whit the officers, moste of them where send out in the military to some EU country, and remembered all the nice girls :-) After an hour or so the boss got to his workplace, and entered my address in to the system in 5 min or so. One of the officers mentioned that by this time I would be all moste done sitting my ticket out. Great.. So I was out driving to Savannah.. There was not much road left, so I reached it quickly in normal speed. But.. remember the Storm ?!? At the same time as a reached Savannah the Storm cached up to me. It was like one big waterfall in front of me. I could only se what was just in front. And luckily I spotted the bright signs of the Hotel. I pulled up just in front of the lobby, and asked where I could park my car. There was a parking house just across the street. Okey... I was tired and used.. I gave my key away and asked them to park my car. I got in to the lobby, and asked for my reservation. Sorry sir your reservation is at our hotel out side the city.. WHAT!!!??? At that point I could care less, and asked for any available room, and fortunately he had one ! :-) 1hour sleep and up to my meeting I my self asked for to be at 9am. Company policy is to dress up for meetings whit costumers (it was not a costumer). So I jumped in to my suit after a quick bath. Grabbed something to eat, it was a turist hotel whit old people every where in their morning outfit. I was not standing out at all *joke*. But standing out is what comes next. Me in my fine suit asked for my Challenger to be broth to me, and of I go to my meeting, just outside of the city, down at the harbore. I turned left where I should and the paved road was gone. Dirt road whit holes under the tires. Then it hit me where my meeting was, commercial harbour ! When I got there, there was only pickup trucks and large lorry's, dust and working men. Imagine me pulling up in my fine Doge Charger on Miami plates, stepping out of it in my fine suite and everyone just paused for a moment. I did not want to know what was in their mind. I hoped it was not Jerk! but something like, "it looks like our new company has money and can help us out".. It all went well. I returned my car in Washington DC where I had a direct connection home. And yeah the fee for a one way rental is a lot more expensive than the car it self.

The first story reminds me a of a neat trick that I ended up taking advantage of in my home state. If you get your license at 16 you can't have passengers for X time because you're a minor, if you're 18 and you get it you're good to go, so I got it at 18 and a few years later I'm driving semis for a living

I had a dark orange 1997 mustang convertible. Got pulled over 17 times in 6 years and NEVER got a ticket. Why? Because I was never doing anything wrong. Worked late at night and would get home between 2 and 3 am. Knowing I was going to get stopped every time a cop or highway patrol saw me to see if I was drinking, I always had my seat belt on and drove right at the speed limit.

Alexandria VA to Columbus OH the whole trip home I maintained a 95 -100 mph average only seeing cops in VA and in OH at the start and stop of my trip. Made this trip 4 or 5 times the same result each time. Google Maps sends you notifications of Police Traps that are verified by other drives along the same route. It was a very fun relaxing trip.

I wish I would have thought about Off the record when I just got my ticket back in January coming home to Florida from Texas. Dude pulled me over, claimed I was doing 83 in a 70 and he clocked me IN BETWEEN the semi truck and the Red SUV, the tiny gap of them next to me. It’s a 2 lane highway, and literally the gap was less than 1/2 a car length. I had cruise control on at 75 and less than 5 seconds dude was already on the highway and lights on, got behind me, and I didn’t start accelerating until he couldn’t go faster anymore. So I accelerated to pass the semi and get over so the cop can go around me in case he had a call he was going to, but then I got over and he got over as well, so pulling me over. This was in Louisiana, there was no way I can make it back for a court date, so I was forced to pay the damn thing. I literally was also about to have a ticket fall off and those points I had were gonna fall off as well, in less than 6 months. I asked him when he clocked me doing 83, cop said "when I was behind you and you were trying to pass the semi." Like really dude I’m getting out of YOUR way because you got your lights on. So from now on if I’m in that situation again, im going to just sit there and NOT move. I’m gonna stay the exact speed limit and whatever cop is behind me can pass me in the emergency lane OR he can find his own area to pass me. Fucking ridiculous how he got me in his radar in that tiny of a gap but yet THEN get me for speeding for getting out of his way Because that’s what you’re supposed to do, is get out of the way of emergency lights.

Nebraska and Kansas give you 5 over on 2 lane highways if you're not being stupid. I've ran 5-6 over on the fog line, while a county mountie ran radar up my left side at oncoming traffic.

For the 1st one. I got my learners at 16 waited 2 days. and got my Full Driver's License. I know it isnt suppose to happen like that in alot of states. but back then at least in my Town. which was 20 years ago in New York. you could wait 48 hours and then go for Full Driver's License. Which I did. this would be back in 2001 when i turned 16. Next day after I got my Full Driver's License. I got pulled over at Night on a weekend. Got all my info to give to the cop. only to get Yelled at by him for 5 or so minutes. Not understanding what he was saying. after he got done yelling at me. He grabbed my Info. went back to his car, roughly 35 mins later he come back out. has me sign something, tell me a court date. Then leaves. Still no clue what i did. Wasnt until I got home and showed my mom and dad the ticket. The Reason for the Pull over, The back plate happened to loose a screw and was hanging down. Ended up going to the court and explained to the Judge what happened and still no clue why I got a ticket. Cop was there to. He actually Confirmed he was yelling at me entire time. So Judge Dismissed the Ticket and Court Fees. Which in total would have been $65 or $75 total. so yeah That is my Crazy ticket story.
