    McCoy's last two seasons were so fun and inventive at times. While Rememberence and Fenric are really good, this is my favourite story of his era. It's just the right balance of camp, fun, clever writing and it has a great soundtrack and great performances from the leads as well and a superb villain's performance from the chief clown.

    • @Anderschristoph125
      @Anderschristoph125 7 років тому +1

      This is one of my favourite Who episodes EVER not just in McCoy's era. But I'd also throw Time and the Rani in there as far as great McCoy episodes go.

    • @RopeDrink
      @RopeDrink 7 років тому +4

      I'm surprised when people like Time and the Rani. In fact, I'm surprised when anyone likes the first season at all. Then again, Time & Rani aside, it was the 'experimental' season, so I guess it shouldn't be a surprise if people find one or two to be 'not as bad' as their reputation paints them. His later seasons, however, were brilliant by comparison. A few bad eggs but some exceptional stories (Remembrance and Fenric being the cream - special nod to Ghost Light for the complexity and drama).

    • @Anderschristoph125
      @Anderschristoph125 7 років тому +2

      RopeDrink, lol, it's ok, I know I'm the only person in the world who likes Time and the Rani hahaha. Look, I know everybody hates Mel, but she isn't the reason I like it. Basically, I love Kate O'Mara as the Rani, I love all the funny dialogue between her and the Doctor when she's pretending to be Mel, I like Urak, I like the music and I like the final scene with the giant talking brain counting down, it's all quite dramatic. So yeah, I have my reasons. But yeah I agree about Remembrance that's really good.

    • @RopeDrink
      @RopeDrink 7 років тому +5

      Ironically I don't actually hate Mel. Yes, she had absolutely no depth at all, but that's on the writers. She was constantly cheerful and bubbly, which would have worked well with the Darkest Doctor in Who history if they just explored her character, had them bounce off eachother and toned down the screaming. Still, I would have likely preferred Ace even if they had done that. Mel at least gets to appear in Big Finish episodes, so she's not 100% gone.

    Many people don't notice that the Ringmaster is also rhyming with the Doctor - not just the cheesy 'song'. Either way, this was one of the better stories of S25. Very fun, inventive, and surprisingly creepy. The fact it's a meta commentary about Doctor Who itself is just icing on the cake.

      Thing is, I've spoken to Stephen Wyatt, and he straight up denied there was anything meta about the storyline or the characters. He thinks it's basically a case of fans seeing patterns in things that aren't there. He conceded it was possible Cartmel added extra subtext in the script-editing. From what I can tell, most of this fan theory is based on one line "Oh, I know it's not as good as it used to be but I'm still terribly interested." which probably was Cartmel having a dig.

      Actually, I'm in the middle of reading the 8th Doctor Virgin New Adventures (haven't gotten to the 7th yet - yes I tend to read things backwards. Don't ask.) and I cannot tell you how many times I came across ideas in those novels that were stolen (yes stolen) for the New Who show. RTD and Moffatt both mined the New Adventure novels for the ideas they put on the New Who show. At least with Human Nature/Family of Blood they got one of the original writers (Paul Cornell) to do the screenplay. The ideas they stole are too many to list here. I wish they'd simply come up with their own ideas instead of stealing from someone else's work.

      Anyone who hasn't seen the episode would simply wonder why they're so deadpan and emotionless, gets the brain thinking about what's going on // makes you want to know more. It's intentionally adding to the 'not as it seems' atmosphere without spoon-feeding anything concrete to the audience. Only someone who's seen the whole episode would be critical of it - but by then it wouldn't matter because you know the outcome anyway.

      I always saw it as a bit of sub-text as to how the common viewer of 1988 would've looked at Doctor Who by this point in the Classic Series's lifespan.
      Namely with bored disinterest for its campy silly antics. Which is really what makes The Greatest Show in the Galaxy shine as an episode.

      Well.
      They are "Gods of Ragnarok" and they can't act like normal people.

    Same, Remembrance of the Daleks is the BEST Dalek episode EVER in my opinion, and second favorite story after The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang.

    While this wasn’t one of Sylvester’s better episodes, this circus rap is really catchy.

    From most favorite to least, here's the McCoy era:
    Remembrance of the Daleks, The Curse of Fenric, Battlefield, The Happiness Patrol, Survival, Silver Nemesis, Paradise Towers/The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Dragonfire, Time and the Rani, and *Shudder* Delta and the Bannerman.

    Hey :) The BBC America panel was most likely funded by BBC Worldwide who would have sold their edit of the trailer to be an exclusive to Comic-Con. A British edit of the trailer by the BBC we fund in the UK is likely to be released eventually. Just not yet it seems.
