How in the hell did they keep from choking up when playing this epic tribute to their fallen brother? I’ll never know, and I’ll always be grateful to Steve for the riffs, and Def Leppard for keeping his memory alive. My 2nd fave DL track. 🤘🤘
Honestly I think it might be harder to play some of the other songs that he had a larger hand in writing. Stand up, for instance, is largely a song based on his licks. Tonight, stand up kick love into motion, have you ever come a heaven is, tear it... Co wrote every single one of those on those album. In that sense I think stand up probably is the song that makes me think of Steve the most even though he doesn't play on the album.
Because we now have access to all the demos of him playing it.
great song, it should have been a single
It's a great song written about Steve and addiction but unfortunately, the song is too long for radio and at the time it would have flopped as a single. When this album was released the music scene was rapidly changing. Almost any band associated with the 80's hardrock/metal scene was quickly becoming uncool. Should this have been released as a single? No. I do believe "Heaven Is" should have been released here in the US as well as in England instead of "Make love like a man". It doesn't matter, the album still did well albeit not as good as their 2 previous mega albums but it did great for its time.
Totally agree it should have been a single.
Radio edit would not do justice to this epic song. Its like trying to release Gods of War as a single.
Lets Get rocked was bullshit. THIS was the song to lead with. NO DOUBT
I saw on this tour two nights in a row houston show was kick ass!! Drove to San Antonio the next night totally delivered again! This was a era when concerts ruled!!❤
Awe Steve... there's an empty spot on that stage in this video...your special spot on the left side.
Rest in peace Steve Clark.
I’m a guitarist. This is an epic song about an epic guitarist with a mortally epic struggle with alcohol. Very haunting without being scary, but just a rhetorical call to get off that path before it’s too late. I feel sad for Steve Clark’s girlfriend who found him on the couch that terrible morning and just knew he couldn’t wake up. Read the account and I just choked up 😭 💔
Dude that “girlfriend” of his was a heroin addict who enabled him.
Still sad tho.
@@Fabian-ix7gm exactly and she died a few years later from it she basically killed both of them
@@Fabian-ix7gm She didnt enable anything. He was a grown a$$ man that made alot of stupid choices. He paid the ultimate price.
She was found dead two yrs later.
No promises, no guarantees
When you come down here
You're already on your knees
You want to ride White Lightnin'
Then sign your name
If you want to dance with the devil
You gotta play his way, play the game
You gotta taste that sweetness
Cause you can't say no
But are you ready for the nightmare
When you can't let go
Like a soldier of fortune
When the money runs dry
You got rivers of bitter tears, in your eyes
You want to leave but you can't let go
You want to stop but you can't say no
You'll never laugh about it
You just can't live without it
You had enough but you just want more
You never get what you're lookin' for
You'll never laugh about it, never
You got both ends burning
You're like a moth to a flame
You're going off the rails
Like a runaway train
It's a no-win situation
And there's no way out
And no one will ever hear you, scream and shout
You want to leave but you can't let go
You want to stop but you can't say no
You'll never laugh about it
You just can't live without it
You had enough but you just want more
You never get what you're lookin' for
You'll never laugh about it, never
Run, he's coming to claim you
Run, nowhere to hide away
Run, oh, you dance with danger
Run, oh, you gotta ride the
White Lightnin'
On a dead end street
White Lightnin'
Where the deadbeats meet
White Lightnin'
It's a one-way ride
White Lightnin'
Oh, there's nowhere to hide
Such a lonely road you ride
It's not easy when you don't know why
Such a heavy load you hide
You never leave no matter how you try
Run, he's coming to claim you
Run, nowhere to hide away
Run, you dance with danger
Run, oh, you gotta ride the
White Lightnin'
On a dead end street
White Lightnin'
Where the deadbeats meet
White Lightnin'
It's a one-way ride
White Lightnin'
Oh, there's nowhere to hide
Such a lonely road you ride
It's not easy when you don't know why
Such a heavy load you hide
You never leave no matter how you try
White Lightning
Can you feel it, can you feel it?
White Lightning
It's so dangerous
White Lightning
No promises, no guarantees
White Lightning
When you come down here
You're already on your knees
My goodness those guitar tones are heaven to my ears nothing beats real amplifiers and vintage rack delay units 🤘😎🍺
Solo on this is among the ones being conceived and written once in a lifetime!!..
This song was about Steve alcohol and drug problem. RIP Steve Clark. He was Def Leppard. He contributed the most doing 90 percent of the song writing’s and guitar solos from when the band got together till he passed away 1991. Gone but never forgotten. We love you.
Hey thanks! That's what I thought the song was about!
90% ? Really? C'mon Man..... So the rest of the fellas were like Extras? Steve Would not Agree lol
After being a fan for 30+ years, I'm convinced Joe can spin to any song...
The male version of Stevie Nicks
No one does it like Phil. Steve would love it
amazing song love it to bits, Mr Clark was amazing person on and of the stage, Mr Campbell has done an a job that was hard to do for anyone with the respect and locality the band members have for each other, Vivian been great for the band not steve but 30 years now so he doing great.. RIP Steve
The Best Adrenalize song.
And you got a lot of good songs to choose amazing record the last great Leppard album
I saw Def Leppard for the first time on this tour. Saw them at the San Diego Sports Arena on 09/19/1992. No opening act. Just an evening with Def Leppard. They played for 2 1/2 hours. One of the best concerts I ever saw! Thank you so much for posting this! :)
I was there too....
My absolute favorite song of theirs...still today
Adrenalize, while not as classic as Pyromania and Hysteria, is still a solid album, but this is easily the best song, and a fitting and fiery tribute to their fallen band mate, Steve Clark (1960-1991).🔥🤘👍🎸🎶❤️
Honestly I think pretty much all the songs Steve wrote or had a hand in writing on adrenalized are excellent. I just think the ones that he had no hand in writing tend to be a little weaker. Make love like a man, let's get rocked, personal property and white lightning and I want to touch you are the five songs he didn't have any hand in writing. Of course he was the subject of white lightning.
But those other four songs to me are definitely a tear or two below. This weekend I would argue there probably the worst four songs on the record.
honestly... their best song.
I saw Leppard at the Miami civic center 1992. I just got out of the corp., hurricane Andrew had just came..and. they where on adrenalize tour..they rocked this tune...
This is probably my favorite DL song and I ❤ the shirt Joe is wearing I've seen him live in it 2xs and I wonder what he does with the clothes that don't fit him anymore I would kill to have that shirt ❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎸💟🌱
Great video from a great tour. I wish they could get the best clips of this tour and edit it into a concert Blu-ray. Anyone that plays live will tell you that not every show is perfect, but if they taped enough of those shows, I'm sure a concert movie would be a totally cool must have.✌
Agreed, I’d love to see the full show of this proshot
It’ll be like an in the round in ur face adrenalize tour edition
They have a professional TV recording from Sheffield (1993).
Kudos to whoever filmed this - the video is all over the place, but the captured audio is actually fantastic. No clipping or distortion whatsoever very clean. A treasure of a bootleg.
White Lightening! ❤️
Out of all the song I wanted to see them play this is the only one I haven't seen live.
Their finest song ever.
Met Def Leppard in 1983 at a hotel bar after their concert in Syracuse, NY. Steve seemed very shy and quiet. Really miss him😢
Such an awesome song! God rest Steve’s soul❤️
Great live version of the track to celebrate the life of one brilliant guitarist Steve Maynard Clark (rest in peace)🙏🙏🙏🤟🤟🤟
The Best song beatiful
The Best
RIP Steve. Miss you terribly 😢
This is incredible, never have seen a live version. Thanks for posting!
Just some good ol fashion powerful rock n roll.
Bless STEVE AND THIS BAND
My favourite Leppard track by miles. Love that solo!
Steve would’ve loved this song for sure
Love the guitar solo!!
I wish they would release more live material from this tour...and others.
tears...
Vivian was the only one who can replace Steve and do an excellent job
Who wrote the guitar solo on this? Was it Clark or Collen/Campbell?
@@w7class Clark
Really? I thought Phil wrote the whole song?
@@grandadmiralmanatee that's a riff of Steve.
Steve and Phil started writing the song. But no way like it sounds here. Phil put it all together and the solo is Phil’s.This solo imo is Phil’s masterpiece. It’s so stunningly brilliant. It’s not just a solo it’s still telling the story of the song. Not just shredding for the hell of it. Steve would of loved this I’m sure
💛💛
fucking awesome leppard4life!
When I saw this tour at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Vivian wasn't in the band yet, ...it was just Phil on guitar......I don't recall if Joe had to play as well...!?
They've never played a show with just Phil. It's always been Viv since 1992, before that it was Steve Clark and before that Pete Willis. Def Leppard has always been a 2 Guitar band.
I wish I was 16 here instead of now, I can see why my mom was a die hard Leppard fan, well I mean she didn’t like adrenalize and still doesn’t (she doesn’t like anything after hysteria) I really think they should add this song back in the set, I’ve noticed that once they stopped playing the tour in the round in April 1993 that white lightning then disappeared from the set, i then also read the band were trying to close the door on the Steve Clark era of the band, made sense but still I think it’s about time its brought back for a revival
I never knew they did do white lightning live once
Oh they definitely did it a lot on the adrenalized tour. 7-day weekend tour I guess they called it. They would announce a little tribute to him. And then afterwards they would give a little speech about how they lost the great friend but they gained a new friend and they would introduce Vivian solo.
Adrenalina yea
every time i see phil in this video i think he's either been doing some sword fencing, playing polo or starred in robin hood : men in tights . . . .
Those were the days
Is this freedom hall in Johnson city Tennessee? If so I was there! 😁 can't remember I was a little high 🥴
Easily the best song on Adrenalize
Phill being Phill. 👊
Where was this particular show ? I saw them in Hartford CT & Groton CT on this tour !
Rock on...
Good Lord Phil's solo. Viv gets a pass cause he was so new and they hardly ever played this song live and probably didn't practice it much.
Terrible rendition.
It was fine negative guy.
It’s fucking amazing!
