- Replacement of IPB. Trying to save money wrenching on my own ride hoping to inspire people to do the same thing. The money we save by not going to the dealers may help towards the family or another mod to the bike. The footage part of me removing the race was lost i do apologise for this but check the link below of a video of me doing a bearing race on the bench .Hope it helps someone thanks for taking time to watch. • Harley Davidson inner ...
Your video about pulling the inner primary race, I had to remove the trans cover and loosen the output shaft nut. And tap the shaft so my puller would grad that inner race. Bravo sir. You helped this old man out.
Thanks for viewing. Glad it has helped you out
@@harleyloco1853 yes and that’s a lot better than trying to cut it off. Awesome trick you taught me. Thank you so much. Cheers.
Awesome straight forward tutorial💪🏼 love the vid brother. Thank you!!
Thanks for the comment and viewing Godbless
Why would you remove the 5 bolts and clutch spring?????😅
Nice work with your channel ..
Thankyou for viewing i appreciate it
How big is there push rod for the clutch an how long I am missing mine try to put mine together on a root beer pocket
Hi, enjoyed the video! Thumbs up!
Can you give me the name of the inner bearing puller set that you used & where you got it? Thanks! 03
Hi thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. The bearing puller is the same as in this link. Its not harley specific at all.

So, you removed the clutch plate retainer. Did you find that necessary. It looks like the retainer would hold the clutch plates in the basket while you removed the entire clutch.
You can do it that way i suppose but i had a general check over so i had everything apart.
So you re used your gaskets, did you replace or just reuse the 5 inner primary bolts. Dit it leak at all, I’m about to do the same job myself. Cheers from Canada
Yea no need to buy new gaskets everytime unless you see visual damage. The 5 bolts i put a drop of sealant on them to be on the safe side but again if the seals look damaged id buy the 5 bolts. If your stuck when doin it drop a comment and ill advise on what i know
Is it essential to replace the bearing sleeve on the transmission every time you replace the primary bearing?
Yes id say so due to the fact that the race would wear with the bearing so changing a bearing leaving an old race dont make sense to me and would save time having to go back into it further down the road if its whines or goes wrong
If you dont change the compensator springs or upgrade the whole system, will still have problems with primary and gearbox bearing, broken inner splines clutch hub, broken belt tooth, starter clutch problems, crazy cranckshaft runout etc etc
How to stop back tire from moving when trying to remove clutch basket I have primary tool in chain but clutch is turning
Do you have the rear tyre on the ground ?
@@harleyloco1853 Gm yes I got it off with impact gun thank you great video
@@ebug1272 thats good then well done
I watched this entire video just to see the way you removed the race and that’s the part of the footage that was lost Just my luck
.sorry bud i was super pissed off when i came to edit the video also . I done another one not to long ago where i used a dremmel and it was so much easier no heat needed just a careful scoring and a light tap with a chisel and it slides off with no effort. I didnt touch or damage the shaft or anhthing else and no worries about replacing seals after using a heat gun to get it off with the tool.
@@harleyloco1853 no worries man I totally get it. It was an informative video never less. Thx
Hi mate what race removal tool did you use?
I got mine off ebay for £40 or £50 . A little tip Just use a torque wrench set at around 40ft lb as the tools max out at around 50ft lb .. if its not moving at 40ft lb add some more heat until it moves . Be mindful of the seals
Did you have any issues removing the bearing race?
It wasnt so straight forward as i would have liked . Mine was a little walked back so i drained the trans oil pulled the trans cover loosend the mainshaft retaining nut on the trapdoor side with the bike in gear i tapped it with a deadblow hammer and it moves the the shaft over enought to get the race remover tool in. Gotta be super careful with the heat not to toast the mainshaft seal behind. Sounds tougher then it is but its not a hard job at all..
What tool did you use to remove and install the bearing in the inner primary case? I'm in the middle of the job now...
I used a bearing/bush removal tool. Be very careful with presses etc can crack the primary housing very easily
@harleyloco1853 thanks! I ended up "borrowing" one from auto parts store. But bad news. Evidently my bro pulled the clutch lever while it was torn down and now the clutch linkage is messed up. Clutch doesn't fully disengage. Someone said that the balls need to be reseated on the ramp of the secondary actuator. Do you know what that means and what to do about it?
@@GregKantmann-uw6mo its a bit long winded to try and explain but this video may give you some idea. Good luck with it bud let us know the outcome

@harleyloco1853 well, I went through that. Everything in the clutch cover looked good, put it back together and adjusted the clutch. No change. It doesn't make sense... I don't know what else to do?
@@GregKantmann-uw6mo that seems very strange. The clutch deffinatley adjusted correctly! i have a video on here
Why did you take the clutch apart??
Its just to show how everything can come apart . I have done them with just pulling the complete clutch assembly but i gave it all a look over to make sure i was in spec
Did this fix the noise you had
Certainly did bud .. like a whining noise when the clutch was engaged it goes 100% primary bearing
Do you have to grease that Bering or is it ok to run dry?
You can put a little assembly lube around it if you want but it runs in the primary oil so it gets lubcricated . Thats as long as you put the retaining clip in the correct position allowing the oil to pass through
@@harleyloco1853 ok thanks for the advice
@@Thisdude1227 any time bud
Great video im having the same trouble with my 07 Heritage a whirling noise that goes away in gear, getting ready to do it myself, but could you list all the new parts to go along with the new Inner primary bearing that you used in this video thanks
Hi hope this helps
Primary oil
Maybe a primary cover gasket if you damage original one
Primary bearing and race
Tools
Primary bearing/race puller installer they can be a nightmare to get the race off if you look through my videos theres a tutorial on doing it with the tool but i have had to use a dremmel to cut the race then split it with a chisel.
Good luck take your time
Good morning, 🌅, I am from the future, 😂, it is a bit more work, but you would of been better off putting in a Jim’s upgrade bearing kit, and get rid of the auto adjustment chain tensioner, That is mainly the reason why you’re bearing has gone, France.
The Jims primary bearing kit doesnt fit this model. The auto primary tensioners are fine unless your running high power and are heavy on the throttle drag starts etc
But if has a seal how will there be oil to get in between the snap ring
You position the snap ring opening to a groove that is in the casing. That allows the oil to flow. A lot of people miss this and lack of oil fails the bearing so be sure to do it .
