Maybe ask your buddy Asmongold who keeps feeding this tribalism with his non stop clickbait takes. Maybe open your eyes and admit the truth. Him and other drama merchants are a big part of why the issue is so widespread now.

There are three big controversial topics ART, religion, and politics. Unfortunately the gaming space is definitely a grouped into art. Its gonna be pretty hard to get away from criticism. However I agree people seem to enjoy being polarized now a days.

The silent, balanced players are out there, we just observe the extremes in silence. I got tired of the extremes as well, but this is why I consume content from you or asmongold - to look at objective information. Keep it up, take breaks early, don’t burn yourself out over people that just hate stuff for the sake of hating.

Me honestly man, I had to stop watching Asmongold for the exact opposite reason. He’s gone from good, balanced takes to honestly just inciting arguments and making baseless, and bad, takes about the game or whatever he’s talking about. He goes out of his way to make humorous content about what’s being said rather than ACTUALLY making a backed-up, solidified point like DM consistently does. He bitches about the game having certain mechanics that only existed because he was refusing to play the game in a way that would bypassed or fixed those mechanics. He lets his specific moment to moment experiences and thoughts dictate his entire viewpoint on something rather than being able to make an overarching opinion. He’s close to unbearable to watch at times because of how much he makes apples to oranges comparisons to back his thoughts and arguments and doesn’t delve into anything past the humor or original statement.
Edit: and don’t even get me STARTED on his community. Holy fuck. Biggest cesspit of negativity I’ve ever seen who collectively circlejerk everything asmon has to say

You're seeing it in the comments now, and you'll keep on watching this evolve as your channel grows. We like your content because we feel like there's finally some middle ground and an actual constructive conversation to be had. It sure is frustrating and a bit tiring at times, but we need more people like you in this business. Someone who is able to voice his thoughts reasonably, without going out of his way to bring down or overpraise a game, but actually find both the good and the bad in the product that he is trying out. I personally am very glad that a person like you, who is seemingly simple and down to earth, has made something unique and quite frankly great out of his hobby, has matured, and so far doesn't seem to have taken an sort of snobby attitude towards his audience, just because he "Made it". The world needs more genuine people like you to show that it's not always black and white. D4 will flourish as it continues to evolve, PoE2 is gonna be great, Last Epoch is well on it's way of becoming another great ARPG title, and we're all here to listen to what your thoughts on these games are going to be. here's the thing...... Games were meant to be a side hobby to real life. we have now made such a manic following of gamers that it has really put a damper on the industry and in turn that makes these companies monetize everything because they know followers of streamers and people who make money playing these games are going to throw money hand over fist at those said companies. Games were meant to be a hobby not a career and that is where we got off track because now everyone thinks they can be a gamer and make a living off of it..... dont get met me wrong there is massive skill involved in high level gaming..... but overall the fun of games has dipped dramatically over the last decade

Some of our internal negativity is residual from our childhood and adolescence. The frustrations of growing into a valid adult can leave a lot of baggage that only fades through some type of catharsis. Venting and complaining can be therapeutic in that regard. The crux of the problem is when it becomes the common mode of release/relief. Two things happen at this point: it becomes habitual/compulsive and it detracts from addressing issues in better or more constructive ways. That's why people who complain all the time, typically feel less mature than they should.

It's important for everyone to grasp the concept of constructive criticism - a space where diverse viewpoints are shared without offending fan sentiments. It's completely okay to have preferences and root for your favorite teams, but it's not okay to undermine others when they disagree with you. Gaming, after all, is a choice, not a compulsion - it's about having fun, spending time and momentarily escaping the hurdles of daily life. Thanks for your insightful videos and here's hoping the algorithms change in favor of promoting positivity in the future.

I rarely comment, but I think you deserve praise for being constructive and neutral.
People polarise because we’ve entered an era where if your not obnoxiously aggressive, you’re not heard and this fuels trolls.
People are also frustrated with life (we won’t go into why, that’s a dissertation in itself) and this is one of the few ways they can make themselves feel better for a moment.
Your approaching this the best way possible, creating a place where good well-balanced people congregate.
Don’t stop what your doing. More will follow and you’ll be able to create a place where normal people like you and I can have balanced conversations.

@therotten6152 I agree everything you said was right on the mark, except one thing. Yeah, it's been worse in the last 5 years for sure, but I've been noticing it getting worse for almost 30 years.
In the early days of the internet if you wanted to search for an issue to a technical problem, you either had a bunch of experts giving advice or you had to solve the problem yourself because the answer wasn't on the internet. There was a barrier to entry.
Then later the internet grew and you could find your answer but you had to sift through people asking silly questions, giving answers to different problems or saying well I don't have a problem so it's all fine.
Then later still it got to the point where all you could find for obscure issues was the noise and it was back to solving things yourself.
I correlate this to dial-up internet or broadband becoming more common and easier to use. Then the growth of Facebook and smart phones made this issue much worse. Over time it just steadily got worse. Yeah there were some spikes but I don't know if we can narrow it to a single cause, it was probably a bunch of factors.
I wish I knew the solution to this problem. It's got to be normal majority views outweighing the extreme fringe views but I don't know how they'd do that, except by altering the algorithm in a socially healthy direction rather than a monetary direction.
Still I wouldn't mind if all social media was gone tomorrow, leaving behind the more personal forms of communication where you could actually have real conversations.

      @immatoll4375 Рік тому

Absolutely true. I mean its the same when people compare every new game with the so praised "Elden Ring" (which I never cared about and also did not think that it was that groundbreaking). The issue with D4 is that it has so much potential, people waited 10+ years for a decent arpg from blizzard, but a lot of people are so frustrated that they just did the "bare minimum". I had my fun with D4 for sure and I'm fine with my money investment. But it is so terrifying when you watch the campfire and think: This is really your focus? You really give us a game that has less social features than D3, but think the shared world builds up a community? There are so many flaws in this game where you just think: Is there no one working for blizzard anymore with a passion for gaming? It looks like the whole team only is some professional developers that came from university but have absolutely no idea of gaming. All the talents went to smaller companies. And it is not just d4 currently... It's more a situation about AAA production... Overwatch 2 with the PVE Cancel... Ubisoft destroyed "The Setter"... Bioware went from a great rpg maker to Anthem and Mass Effect 4... CD Project Red with Cyberpunk (while it is a decent game now)... and then stuff like Baldurs Gate 3 or Elden Ring where AAA devs talk about this is an anomaly and all that shit just to defend that they are unable to make "games"... People are loosing trust in blizzard and AAA companies so hard... i think that is what people frustrate a lot - because they love these games or their previous games but it is like getting hit with a hammer more and more till some people explode... bet let's be honest: It is not only about gaming... this is 2023 society thanks to social media and all that shit mostly. We just had a better time in the 90s.
I personally am frustrated of D4 because I really like that game but damn it is so hard to love it when you have the impression that the blizz devs never really cared about something you want to like and at least there is stuff like business decision like battle pass in it, but the game basis is broken af. Like he said the game is a 6-7/10 currently and I'm not mad about it. It is just so sad how obvious a lot of issues with the game are and they developed the whole concept of many systems only on the paper, but never really tested it. Like all the missing QOL, Lootfilter, sell items for gold, stash tabs etc. It all feels so that they just tried so hard to "create" a time waste instead of letting people have fun. All I wish was that i could kill 3-4 times the monsters in endgame with even half the loot or only loot at the end. I do not want to stop all 10 seconds for every yellow item i have to check if its an upgrade or not. And everyone who ever played a arpg should know that this is the fun of d3, last epoch or poe.
There are so many games out there blizzard could have learned from. Instead they actually did the oposite: No balancing, 3/4 abilities are uselss, skilltrees are obvious, aspects are mandatory for builds, gear is exact the same on EVERY class and every item (DR, CDR, RES, RCD, Krit+VulnDmg+XDamage, Stat, Movementspeed, Kritchance), paragon is a joke (2-3 level only +5 attribute upgrades), some uniques and hearts are fine but still far too low on options... I mean it's 2023 and even D3 had so many stuff in it. D4 should at least have EVERYTHING good from D2/3 in it. I will look forward for D4 one day and it is not a bad game... but it also is just not a good ARPG. It's not an issue for the first hundred hours thats why im fine with my investment... but i think the big issue is that no one trust this dev team because of it. These are not minor issues... it is more a d3 release situation when the game only became better with ROS but no one cared about it after that... and the fear while it could be an amazing game that they keep beeing such a stiff company not trying creative stuff out like they do in PoE. I mean look at the 3.22 patch and all the content: THIS is a season. What we got could have been also on release - there was barely a reason why the season even started 2 months later. Just for 3 sockets? Congrats.

As I 40 year old casual gamer trying to balance life and trying to squeeze time out to game and wind down at the end of the day. I don’t have time or care about why gaming is so divisive nowadays. I am a lurker 99% of the time on social platforms but I know exactly how you feel and want to drop a comment. I enjoy your content because you are a well spoken person with reasonable mindset when it comes to gaming criticisms. It’s very rare in today’s media.
I often feel like gamers feel entitled for whatever reason just because you dropped $70 on a game and if it didn’t live up to your expectations the world falls apart? If people feel that way the only thing I have to say is grow up. Doesn’t matter how young or old a gamer you are. You made the decision to buy a game, if it’s bad, learn your lesson and be a smart consumer.
Last thing I want to say is keep doing what you’re doing. There are people like us who aren’t normally vocal in chats and comment section that agree with your take. Don’t let the negativity of others get to you. It may be hard but if you believe and walk that line, let people that disagree with you fade away, and you maintain the core audience that shared with your mindset and let foster that culture. It’s not always easy but it’s worth it if you believe in it.

I remember the early days of online games when we still had to pick up our copies of a game or expansion at the local store at midnight. Back then, I would go with my dad, who had just retired from the Navy and loved games as much as I did. Our favorite part of any release was meeting and talking to fellow fans and gamers who loved the same games we did. We would spot each other across the parking lot by our hats or shirts and even made new friendships that persisted for years from some of these events. Now, I won't even wear a game t-shirt in public for fear I might run into another gamer with a strong negative opinion about it. The last time it happened was in 2020 and I was wearing a graphic t-shirt with a deathclaw's face on it. A person I had never met launched into a tirade about Fallout 76 and was literally purple faced over it, and all I wanted to do was pick up a breakfast burrito. Like everything else, the worst people in gaming are probably 20-percent of the fans, but that 20-percent is unhinged and the other 80-percent is no longer worth the risk you might meet one of the bad apples. I doubt this is limited to gaming, either.

If players dont get new content every week they loose interest. Another problem is the gameindustry. The short term greed is destroying most games. All focus is on the psychology of the playerbase and keeping us online, not on having fun!

I'm very much part of the silent majority that you alluded to. I got Diablo 4 on the presale, blitzed through the story within a week, finished it at level 38. Started to grind levels for my capstone dungeon for WT3 for a few hours and got bored, haven't touched the game since then. I really enjoy your videos and personality that shines through, so I stick around and happily listen to your thoughts on the game that I have no interest in playing.
When you mentioned the tribalism within gaming, it motivated me to leave a comment for once. I think the hyper reactionary stuff isn't a coincidence at all, it's just a symptom of how popular gaming has become.
When you look at the most successful games, in terms of revenue at least, you'll notice that most demographics that are catered to are those in teenagers/early 20s. Call of Duty, GTA, NBA/Madden etc. These are your primary audience when you're talking about, or making content for, a mainstream triple A game. These teenagers that are playing these games for hours upon hours will make their hobby their absolute identity. They might not be excelling in school, they might not have a great social life or be particularly fit and healthy, but they do have games. Games is who they are. As social creatures with a need to fit in and be liked, it's super important for somebody who's entire personality and identity is 'This is the game I like' to be perceived as "correct". If someone else thinks that you like an awful game, well that calls into question everything about you as a person. You like shitty games because your values are wrong and messed up and you're not a 'real' gamer like the rest of us. This kind of tribalism heavily promotes the overly negative diatribe you hear, and a lot of content creators are to blame for that. You can look at any of the mainstream twitch streams with 10k+ regular viewers and you'll often hear the kind of 'This kid is so bad at the game / These devs are absolutely clueless / This game is trash' rhetoric that young minds will mindlessly parrot because the relatively famous figurehead said it and I want to be just like him/her. This negativity and vitriol unfortunately makes for the most clickthrough engagement, and that's not just limited to gaming, but in every facet of media. You'll never hear about a puppy being saved from a tree on the 6pm news, but you'll sure as hell be told about every stabbing, bombing, and murder that the 24 hour news cycle can churn out. Just look at /r/LiveStreamFail for a 2m+ strong community that lavishes the chance to laugh at somebody's misfortune.
Unfortunately, if you want more of a nuanced take on anything to do with your hobby, gaming or otherwise, you've got to go niche. The less people are involved, the less chance that the idiots will flock to it. If you're consuming meta information about a triple A game, you'll never escape it.

Oddly enough, I was driving when I listened to this, and laughed when you said: you just watch because your driving and its a podcast. I am one of your silent majority that don't interact, because I come here for news and analysis. I don't really need to partake in it any further. You are right in that there is a very vocal minority; always is. But if you want a detailed nuanced brakedown, here it is.
I have played Diablo since D1; I particularly enjoyed D3. I am enjoying D4 a lot less than I would like, and I will unlikely play much beyond the 1st season, unless I see major change. I will likely go back to V Rising, and keep playing WoW; looking forward to Ashes of Creation in a few years.
Things I love: the story (truly fantastic), the voice acting, the immersivness of the world, the general feel of the classes (for an ARPG), the communication of the Devs, the art style, the incredibly gorgeous landscapes (especially the moments where the camera pans back and up to show something amazing), about 85% of the main story line, the main cities that feel unique, the zones, the paragon board system as a whole, the NPCs, the continuation of the story thats been told over a 20 year period of time, and many more things - I think are done really well. So much of this game is really great.
Things I’d like to see improved: lag when transitioning to practically anything, inventory management time sink, party members portaling directly to other members instead of just major cities, everything about the mounts (collision, lag, jump point interactions, and especially removing the remount counter), general performance, notifications of world events with timers, resistances, being able to use a portal while mounted, the camera standard zoom perspective (needs to be pulled out further) and so many more things.
Things I’d like added: group finder, stash search functionality, load outs, better looking cosmetics (in game and in store)
Things I’d like removed: respec costs, off screen one-shots: cross bows, triple lightning pillars, charging boars (and the bloated corpse guys too) - one shot mechanics from non-boss, non-telegraphed content is really unfun.
Final thoughts; I spent $100 for the premium version of this game, and I'm the type of gamer that would spend on their store cosmetics too, but I won't be paying $28 for a cosmetic set. I would definitely pay 5, and maybe even 10 - but they have lost my normal store purchasing business already.
As stated before, unless major changes happen, I'm unlikely to play much beyond the first season - which is a sad statement for me to make, given how much D3 I played. I'd almost rather just play D3 actually - maybe this just isn't my game.
I hear you on the sentiment of the opinions from some very vocal people being entrenched in absolutes. There has been a marked increase in the amount of people standing around decreeing that a game is "total dogshit" for a few things that aren't perfect out of the gate. I would agree that this game is currently a 6/10 or 7/10 at best. Some really good stuff, and some really awful stuff. (loading other player stashes? c'mon guys!)
I find it sad that people feel the need to say a game is dead with out any empirical evidence. The game will be "dead" when Blizzard shuts off the servers, and not a minute before. Overly embellishing one's own personal beliefs (that are unfounded) is some kind of attention seeking, and I truly feel sorry for the people who feel the need to engage the world in that manner.
To that point, I would encourage you (DM) to just ignore them. If their attitudes don't bring you anything of substance or value, then let them scream at the dark all they want, and keep doing your thing.

You’re not in the wrong business, you’re really good at making succinct, clear, and helpful videos and an entertaining streamer. You just gotta block out the toxic, negative, and useless people. Negativity breeds negativity so don’t pay them any attention - don’t think about them, if you have to read something they say, just laugh, and then especially don’t talk about them cus that just hypes them up even more. I totally understand you wanting to make this video to vent and all - your real fans are here to support you but I think the best thing to do moving forward is to just completely ignore negative people and their comments and only associate with positive people. People who can hold these civil discussions and respectfully argue (what arguing used to be and should be… not the political mindless brainwashed bickering it is today - might as well talk to a wall) opinions over games without belittling the other’s character/intelligence. It’s ok to disagree and often exciting - opportunities to gain or at least understand different perspectives.

This is my 2nd or 3rd youtube comment in over a decade of watching videos. I guess I am part of what (before D4?) was your prime audience: a gamer dad that really liked gaming when he was young but does not have a lot of time for it anymore. I gotta say: these honest videos of you showing, what I feel like is the true you, really stand out on youtube with all the fake stuff going around. And on the topic: I can understand how you might feel that way with the amount of communication you are exposed to. I can attest to one thing: people have been negative and exaggerating online since the dawn of the internet. But try to not take it too seriously, I have been part of the "gaming community" for 2 decades now, and it has always been the case that people are flaming and taking extreme positions online. The reality is: once you physically talk to people (we used to have this thing called LAN parties where you actually meet the people you insulted online, which was really cool btw) everything is SO much more chill. It is just when all you have is a little chat window, and all your current emotions, people just let it out, and it often doesn't have anything to do with the actual subject. So please, try to stay positive! You can be certain, the silent majority is on your side :)
