Honestly I’m an ex-mormon and I recently have been researching the eastern churches (I.e. orthodox and Catholic Churches) I feel like I need to visit one soon 😎I really love the Jesus prayer 🙏
You should certainly get yourself a Chotki prayer rope for the 'Jesus Prayer. I was raised Roman Catholic and moved over to the Byzantine Catholic Church in 2004. You can also create an icon corner at home. “The Lord says to Peter: ‘I say to you,’ he says, ‘that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.’ . . . On him [Peter] he builds the Church, and to him he gives the command to feed the sheep [John 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed, the others were that also which Peter was [i.e., apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, whereby it is made clear that there is but one Church and one chair. So too, all [the apostles] are shepherds, and the flock is shown to be one, fed by all the apostles in single-minded accord. If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he imagine that he still holds the faith? If he [should] desert the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he still be confident that he is in the Church?”- St. Cyprian of Carthage (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; 1st edition [A.D. 251]).
@@richlopez5896 Except, Jesus never said that we are to be solely reliant on Peter. He pointed out the infallibility in Peter saying...and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. While Peter was the rock, he is not the only one we are to look to. If that is the case, Jesus is saying to us follow this corruptible man? No, we are to lean on his teachings, but we are not to look upon him as infallible. (Lumen Gentium, No. 25) St. Peter was the first Apostle among equals. As was the Pope the first Bishop of the Ecumenical council among equals. Until without the knowledge of the East chose a monarchy. (See the letter by Nicetas, Archbishop of Nicomedia written to the pope of that time.) That is not the way the church was set up in the first century. You can plainly see the change when it happened. The Catholic church added when the Orthodox remained to tradition. I have much love for my catholic brothers and sisters, but many are not aware of the history that changed the church from the days of the Apostles. You can also read the Didache (The teachings of the Apostles) written around the 2nd century. No mention under "Church leaders" for a Supreme Bishop, but a plurality of bishops and deacons worthy of the Lord.

Im a Secular Franciscan, Western Rite of course - but NOTHING on earth can stop me using a Chotki and the Jesus Prayer. When everything in my secular life gets too heavy, I may drop out my regular prayer habits (like the full Divine Office .etc) temporarily and just resume the Chotki/Jesus Prayer alone. This I find "empties" my mind and better makes my heart protected and open. Im never going to resume praying the Office or the Rosary, filling my head with lots of powerful imagery, while Im having lots of "viceful and/or sinful" imagery clogging my works. It would be a huge disservice and a "forceful" vain nature in prayer. The Jesus Prayer offers me the emptying of all the stimulation, and just the pure focus on the Holy Name itself and the Mystery of God. Ive always believed that when these situations occur, with an excess of the world becoming too heavy, the utmost Spiritual Warfare is needed - and for me, the Chotki and Jesus Prayer is my daily, and often my sole, weapon of choice in God's name.
This is actually so funny!! I tought myself a few years ago how to make a chotki (my Playlist I made for that on UA-cam is from 2019) and I also watched the tutorial from the christ the bridegroom monastary channel!! Using the prayer all day even at work can be challenging with so many words. Its can be further simplified "Lord Jesus Christ" on every inhale "have mercy on me" on ever exhale. This works with the heart beat.
i agree with @Jean-Paul de Beer , the purpose is the simplicity. it should be able to be used in a similar way to how buddhists and hindus use their mantras. but when at home praying more purposefully i do add a "dear" to the beginning, and use an "upon" instead of "on"

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him"
Jesus repeated His prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane. He also would have sung and prayed the Psalms of David regularly. The Greek words of the passage you're quoting would be translated more accurately as mindless stammering or as many translations put it, "heap up empty phrases." Even if we maintain the KJV translation as "vain repetitions," it would not disqualify heartfelt and intentional repetitions. My view and interpretation of this passage used to be the same as yours, but I think it can be proven from the context and language that this passage is actually about establishing a corporate prayer (the Lord's Prayer), while also condemning the types of prayers we would actually associate with Charismatics and Pentecostals today (speaking in unintelligible languages and mindlessly repeating spell-like invocations, as was common among the old pagan religions). There is a stumbling block in Protestantism of condemning or neglecting Christian practices that are seen as "too Catholic." Using corporate or rote prayers is one example, and making the sign of the cross would be another example. Repetitions and reminders such as these absolutely help us to be more mindful of our faith and more prayerful in everyday actions. If none of this persuades you, and it still seems contrary to the convictions of your conscience, I would suggest researching "mental prayer" as taught and practiced by many canonized saints, as it is also meditative in nature, but it is not repetitive, and it would help you to be "prayerful in all things," and to "pray without ceasing," as the Bible commands. If nothing else, don't let your convictions on one verse keep you from obeying the commands of Scripture that are repeated in many verses. May the Lord bless you and be with you always. 🙏🏻❤️🔥
I am Catholic and I pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy with my Rosary beads. Apart from this, sometimes during the day I pray the Jesus prayer without using a prayer rope, just with my mouth or through my head. What I'm wondering is this: Many orthodox priests or monks whose videos I watch on UA-cam say that they perform this prayer using chotki/komboskini and that they have multiple prayer ropes ranging from 33 to 300 beads. At the same time, they say that we should pray this prayer continuously throughout the day, from morning to night (referring to the verse "pray without ceasing" in the Bible). If I'm going to do this at any time during the day, then I probably don't need a certain number of prayer rope. But I'm curious about your experiences. Is it more efficient to pray this prayer a certain number of times a day with a prayer rope, or whenever I can do it without using any rope? How do you do it and which one do you get more efficiency from?
The Jesus Prayer: 1. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on me, a sinner; OR 2. Lord Jesus Christ, Have Mercy on me; OR 3. Jesus Christ, Have Mercy; OR 4. Jesus, Mercy; OR 5. Jesus.
some people used to pray with Holy Spirit and find their own Jesus prayer.. there are many different that desert fathers used to pray, and repeat, but that one "Jesus prayer" is mostly used among Orthodox and Catholics... example of another one could be: "Glory to you Christ our Lord, whos been born from virgin Mary.."
It kind of reminds me of how some young adult ROMAN Catholics that I know say "Come, Holy Spirit", but I think they use the Holy Spirit phrase more as a way to call the HS to help bring them to the attention of prayer.
@@stanislausklim7794 i also used to say it for that same reason I believe person needs to be called for prayer of a heart. If we do it on our own without Holy Spirit giving us a call for it it can be tricky and unsuccessful.. My logic is that once you are in a prayer, when you are there with him, receiving grace and peace, then repeating words or even reading scripture could be pulling you away from his presence into your own idea of what prayer is supposed to look like, so we should stay with him once he is there and follow his guidance, if that means continuing prayer of a heart then it is the way, if that means continuing reading gospel, than that should be done. But sometimes he just wants us in silence, to stay there without words or acts That can also be very nice and it can really change our battery 🔋 That is my experience

@@elf-lordsfriarofthemeadowl2039 A moment after he tossed it back, Sr Natalia said 'You just tossed it across the table'. I think was meant to be not just an observation - why on earth would she make such an observation. So it was not an observation; it was meant to be a mild rebuke. But still Matt did not apologise. I am quite sure that Matt did not intend to be offensive, but his action here was, objectively speaking, offensive. Like Matt, I am Australian, and what might be called a typically casual Australian, so all of us (Australians) need to remind ourselves to shave off the blunter corners of our nature when such is necessary. I found the complexity of the rosary to be off-putting. I prefer using the Jesus Prayer with a prayer rope (komboskini in Greek) as it is far simpler and more direct.
i do both as im non-denominational, but i agree that praying the rosary is complicated. i can never remember the apostles creed. it does seem that the structure of praying the rosary is a bit flexible however, as ive seen many times people adapting it to their spiritual needs. that doesnt even get started on the mysteries tho. i find i really concetrate mostly on the sorrowful mysteries in the spirit of contrition for Jesus' sacrifice for our sins. its worth it, but it is a lot and i do appreciate the beautiful simplicity of praying the knots of an orthodox rope.
I'm a Krishna devotee, we also pray on beads. I love to hear from anyone that loves God. I may try some of these breathing techniques with my chanting. Thanks
I had a dream in which Lord Khrisha spoke to me.That was many many years ago.I always ask for Khrisha to guide, govern and direct me.I start all rosaries with this short prayer.
I will just like to drop this here. For those who are seeking Traditional Catholicism, the Eastern Catholic Church is not traditional and they are as modern as the Western Church regardless if their Mass didn’t change much. Now why do I say this? I say this because if you look at the life of the Eastern Catholic life before Vatican II, they prayed the Rosary as well as the Western Church. Mary didn’t appear in Fatima for only Western Catholics. So to downplay the necessity of the Rosary or put it on the same level as the Jesus Prayer isn’t what Eastern Catholics did before Vatican II. One can only do this by disregarding almost all the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Just check out the Marian apparition in Hrushiv Ukraine where Mary said to supposedly Eastern Catholics in 1987; “Say the Rosary. It is the weapon against Satan. He fears the Rosary. Recite the Rosary at any gathering of people” Mary said at every apparition at Fatima, “Pray the Rosary everyday”. So for Catholics to ignore this for the sake of obsessing keeping their Eastern Traditions is by far imprudent. I’ve been seriously considering the Eastern Catholic Church but seeing everyday how poor their devotion to Mary is, is just discouraging. The Eastern Catholic Church is as Novus Ordo as the West. There are Traditional Eastern Catholics who are Traditional, and attached to the SSPX, but they are in Ukraine and it isn’t seeming like they are trying to move to another country anytime soon. They are the Priestly Society of St. Josephat.

Available on Amazon. But why spend$?I made my own 33 knot prayer rope from jute cord and it works just fine.
Pater Nostar Beads are very similar.
It was called "chotki" from ancient Russian word, which could mean "count", "read" or "worship". These word in Russian sound very simular.
Contrition is the best Nutrition!
Well said! I’m publishing a weekly UA-cam video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.
Why did Mr Fradd just throw her prayer rope with such disrespect? I’m sure he wouldn’t have thrown a rosary across a table like that 🤔
Yes, very strange.
It's the Liquid Death he was drinking.

Prayer Ropes, I would like to get one of those. They say you need to take deep breaths as you pray with them.
@Hyperborean Futurism the deep breaths help me though. But yeah, optional

Hey Matt, what happened to sips with aquinas? Why are you posting the clips here now?
It seems he and his guests do encompass aquinas
"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him"
Jesus repeated His prayers in the Garden of Gethsemane. He also would have sung and prayed the Psalms of David regularly. The Greek words of the passage you're quoting would be translated more accurately as mindless stammering or as many translations put it, "heap up empty phrases."
Even if we maintain the KJV translation as "vain repetitions," it would not disqualify heartfelt and intentional repetitions.
The thing about the Jesus prayer is that the repetition is not vain. It helps us pray without unceasing as St. Paul recommended.
The Jesus Prayer:
1. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on me, a sinner; OR
2. Lord Jesus Christ, Have Mercy on me; OR
3. Jesus Christ, Have Mercy; OR
4. Jesus, Mercy; OR
5. Jesus.
4 and 5 doesnt seem correct
Is Pints orthodoxy?
Nope, Matt Fradd is an Eastern Catholic, but he knows about the Roman Rite really well and is a decent catechist.
Didn’t liquid death have a witch curse all their water? Not a product I’d expect to see on this channel tbh :/.
Yep, I thought the same thing. I can only assume they didn't know. I hope Matt knows about that now.
is that a roman catholic rosary?
No it’s a fake rosary
@@turnmeondeadman4221 Why fake
Rosary is a different set of prayers.
some people used to pray with Holy Spirit and find their own Jesus prayer.. there are many different that desert fathers used to pray, and repeat, but that one "Jesus prayer" is mostly used among Orthodox and Catholics...
example of another one could be: "Glory to you Christ our Lord, whos been born from virgin Mary.."
It kind of reminds me of how some young adult ROMAN Catholics that I know say "Come, Holy Spirit", but I think they use the Holy Spirit phrase more as a way to call the HS to help bring them to the attention of prayer.
@@stanislausklim7794 i also used to say it for that same reason
I believe person needs to be called for prayer of a heart.
But sometimes he just wants us in silence, to stay there without words or acts
That can also be very nice and it can really change our battery 🔋
That is my experience

Does she not use the sacrament of confession?
What kind of a message is that? Avoiding confession...fibbing...? Shame on her.

@@plum332 You'll have to watch the whole video to see what part I was talking about. I'm sure that she goes to confession.
@@capecodder04 I don't think that was funny. There was no mention of confession.
Why on earth did you toss it back to her ??
You should have edited this out because it shows a lack of respect, or, if you wanted to leave it in, you should have apologised for it.
He clearly didn't mean offense, and she didn't take any. Why are you upset about it?
@@elf-lordsfriarofthemeadowl2039 It was incredibly rude. You can even see it in her face (at 0:38 ) how surprised she was that he threw it away like that.
Like Matt, I am Australian, and what might be called a typically casual Australian, so all of us (Australians) need to remind ourselves to shave off the blunter
corners of our nature when such is necessary. And it was necessary when giving this object back to Sr Natalia.
Also you breath is link to the spirit of God there are shorter versions and Greek versions. Breathing in his mercy and breathing out our sinfulness I like. " Why's Your Rosary Look Like That?"
♥️
1:14 I learned this prayer from a wise farmer
So close to the sinners but so far away!
Funfact: These prayer ropes are also used by Eastern Orthodox Christians!
I have a different type of rosary prayer that people make fun of
I have to necklaces i have mother Mary and a cross first I pray to the Lord and then pray to mother Mary
It usually goes like this
(Lord's prayer) while I'm holding the cross up to my head)oh Lord forgive thy i sin X3 if i shall die tonight make sure I'm getting to heaven X2 amen and amen Hallelujah
(Mother Marys prayer) while I'm holding the mother Mary necklace up to my head)oh mother thank you thy you birthed Jesus Christ our savior X3 oh thank you saint X2
Do Eastern rite Catholics pray the Rosary?
Yes, they do. The Syro-Malabar and the Syro-Malankara Catholics of India pray the rosary very often, sometimes, more than Latin Catholics actually.
Many do, but not all, and it's not an "official" devotion in many of the Eastern churches the way it is in the West.
Yikes, why did you throw that prayer rope?
3:57 ?? Little confused "His sinfulness" ??
Drinking Death Liquid? Really? The makers have said they cast spells in the making process
I know the prayer rope is simply a tool and not a religious relic or holy in any way But I can’t believe you tossed it across the table. Really …. !

I'm not sure u should have to explain a prayer... kind of ruins the idea of it when you start getting all technical about breathing techniques, no?
Recite the Rosary at any gathering of people”
Mary said at every apparition at Fatima, “Pray the Rosary everyday”.
Josephat.
