    I think everyone is missing the real story here. The weapon was designed by the automatons as bait. The team that "developed" the team wiping launcher just happened to find the plans that an automaton dropped by "mistake" near their research station and wanted to take all the credit. Wake up people, the automatons are playing 4D chess while we here playing 1D checkers.

      All the explosive weapons are like this, I don't see this as being useful and more annoying and a wasteful weapon added that kills you more other than not. How is that part of fun at all? The game got other issues, like the lack of audio for enemies when they move, which is a day one annoyance. Big old bile spitters dragging ass around and can sneak up on you? 🤦 They still haven't fixed that nonsense, but they got this idiotic weapon instead.

      I've seen it trigger near destroyable terrain as well (fences, crates, houses, etc.), I think it just triggers on anything that can be interacted with in any way

      @@Basically_Anybody Don't think so, those things just usually have the supply boxes around them that do set them off. If you pick everything up, it shouldn't explode (definitely makes it useable, right?)
      Along with basic buildings and such, I confirmed that these DON'T set it off:
      - Dropped equipment
      - Those holes in the ground that blow up if you 'nade them
      - Authoritarian lights
      - Dead bots
      - Weapons at POIs
      - Wrecked pelicans
      - Shinies (The gold beacon containers)
      - Illegal broadcast towers (lmao)

      Um? They removed the low charge high armor pen. Buffed the dmg, added more easily seen indicators. I think you are being a bit dramatic and unfairly representing their work.
      And to me it even feels like they have added aim assist to hight charge shots. The railgun is anti Hulk, anti Devastator (sans shield variant) and that is what it should be used for.
      Identify your team role, gear for it, execute it. Or lower the difficulty.

      @@rthj6446 I could've sworn the railgun doesn't do anything on Hulks unless you hit the eyeslit, but I'm probably thinking about chargers. As for Devastators, I usually use the Dominator or Eruptor, and the railgun seems like a step down since I need to reload after every shot for that.

      It's just terminid pissfog in general. But, for real, fog needs to *actually* function. Bots are aimlocking 150 meters away through dense fog with no shots fired towards them, just spontaneous aggro from further away than they do in clear planets...

      It sucks a solid half of all equipment stratagems are somewhat pointless since they’re not well balanced. The amount of recourses they spent in making this godawful stratagem could’ve been put into fixing and balancing other weapons. It gets old seeing everyone only use the Autocannon and Quasar cannon in the game with no diversity when there’s a dozen other stratagems no one uses.

      they only added this bec of the crybabies who think shriekers are impossible, while in reality you just need an auto cannon or quasar and just take out the nests from afar. Bec it cant take out gunships and the demo is about shriekers so its 100% bec of that. The only way for this to be useful would be if you had to manually detonate it by a button. That would mean it would only go off if you pressed, which could be beneficial, allowing more strategic plays, and giving you a big land mine if you so wish to do so. But thats never gonna happen.

      There's always somebody that wants to be a contrarian. It's like people who stan the Spear even though it is also bugged (obvious to 99.9% of players, and confirmed by the devs) because of that time it actually worked right and did a cool thing, even though it ends up being useless in most situations where any other anti-tank support would work fine. I look forward to using actually functional versions of both weapons, but it's pants-on-head to find the current state acceptable.

The problem is it’s unreliable when you really need it to be. I will mess with the this Custer rocket launcher. I won’t be using it as a AA launcher bc the Custers look more for ground than Air.

    The whole airburst = anti-air is really funny to me. Airburst stuff is normally meant to explode above/around enemy cover, hitting things on the ground. I'm assuming the word air is the only reason people are jumping to the AA conclusion.

      I mean, it's both. It's originally developed to incrase effectiveness of AA shells in WW2. Yes they're adapted to do overhead detonation for ground units too, but that's later in the war.

      ​Flak is just short in German for air defense gun, regardless if it has airburst capability.
      Anti Aircraft Artillery / AAA were usually using Timed/Proximity fuses, but today most rounds 20mm+ can use it + missiles/rockets.
      Generally Airburst and AA Airburst are differentiated as one not always might work as the other, due to way fuse is setup.
      In game airburst rocket is working purely on entity detention with can work in both cases, through like Thermite Grenade its setup pretty nonsensically as it's missing minimum range (basic safety) and bomblets should inhere par of the velocity of the rocket, which causes it to be unsafe for the shooter on top of seemingly having limited range...

      I was the one saying “maybe, but we won’t know til we can test it” to people basically saying “It’s not bad, it’s just a bug weapon”. Big difference. We aren’t shitting on these people because they are wrong, that’s fine; we are shitting on them cause they are parroting shit without an ounce of critical thinking put in. I hope the devs get decent feedback on this one cause I could see it cone out before the radial burst making the self frag harder to do while covering even more ground. The gun just has so much investment (strategem slot, support weapon, backpack, and reload time) for something just a single stratagem slot covers.

    Thank you!!! Saw a BUNCH of people in the community think it was "anti-air". Some people take the name too seriously just because it has air in it. It was never intended for air units. It's not even really an airburst weapon per say, more of a mini cluster bomb launcher.

      the trailer video when purchasing the stratagem literally shows it being used against shriekers (and only shriekers), so i don't know how you can say it was "never intended for air units". and not an airburst weapon? it doesn't explode on contact, it explodes in the air. even the clusters explode in the air.

    17:19 And remember, Precision Orbital Strike will also get buffed when the devs fix the fact that stratagems are supposed to track the poke-ball, if you stick it to an enemy.
    So, POS will be a Railcannon Strike that trades ease of issue and call-in time, for cool-down time and utility/flexibility.

      Even with things being exactly as they are, I think the POS is still just flat-out better than the Railcannon.
      The Railcannon has more than double the cooldown, a more complex code and no explosive radius (meaning, no utility use for destroying outpost structures) in return for auto-targeting, which is not very meaningful for a stratagem which you would mostly use against big heavy units that move very predictably to begin with (Not to mention, the auto-targeting can jank out and aim for the wrong thing).

    37:48 the main difference is that you can reload the recoilless piecemeal. pull out the shell, dive and run, put a new rocket it, dive and run, then seal the back. the airburst doesn't save the reload state no matter where you are in it, just like the spear, but at least the spear doesn't kill you.

    I ran this yesterday on suicide, with a full squad of friends that I could communicate with, on the Penta where I could run 4 anti tank red strats, and my opinion is that it’s basically useless, it doesn’t do anything well and you have to stand still and coordinate everything in order to not kill your entire squad, and then you get 4 kills

      I really wish that they would just stick with planet modifiers and have those get progressively harsher as the difficulty is increased. Like lower difficulties would only get hot/cold/fog and then as you get up to 5-9 it adds the ones like fire tornadoes, blizzards, and volcanic eruptions. Because helldive already has bots dropping dozens of tanks and hulks on my head, I really don't need increased call-in time and 1 less stratagem on top of that.

    I’m genuinely baffled at how bad the airburst performs for some people. I’ve never had any of these bullshit glitches where it explodes by the ground. When it works as intended it has a place but yeah, based on this gameplay I’d say it was fucking useless as well.

      Basically you need to use it like the demo video it shows - standing next to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, shooting into enemies very far away. Any itty little interactable or destructible seems to make it prematurely detonate

    We have a rifle made in the late 90's that does the air burst and doesn't work like this. Later made a smaller but fire the same round that does the samething air burst in a lot lighter and compact size and holds WAY more ammo and reloads WAY faster. This looks like the prototype made before the desert storm.

      @FriskyGenZOWN it's like they are mixing some of today and a lot of the technology from the 30's into the game. This cluster munitions was in development in the 40's. The non vehicle variant (infantry) was to reduce the cost of ordinance coming from a vehicle and the power in a soldiers hands. Which was brilliant. Super effective.
      Maybe the developers are thinking of bowing to the sweats, making nothing fun, just stress. It never worked like this.

    as someone who was willing to give this a fair shot against the bugs first before finally saying it's bad. It's bad. buuuut it is actually predictable when it comes to killing you. You can work around the airburst to get it to do what you want, but you don't have to do that with the grenade launcher or a machine gun and the cluster even when it does explode where you want it, will just leave stuff standing for no reason.
    the reason why the rocket seemingly randomly blows up in air is because it basically draws a decently large cylinder around the rocket's path. if anything other than the default ground elements enters that path, it will explode and I mean anything. stratagem pods, fences, escape beacons. rock elements ( so rocks that are noticeably different than just slopes and stuff unless you get even closer), walls, buildings, etc. This means if you stand next to a wall and shoot it, the rocket will instantly recognize the wall next to you, arm the rocket and make you kermit sudoku.
    the rocket is bad because you have to have 4000 IQ big brain positioning to do half as well with a shot as you could do with one or two grenade launcher shots which don't take your reload slot, don't randomly kill you, can be reloaded on the move, and has more utility. if the cluster rocket no longer triggered on map elements and it actually killed the stuff in the radius it would be serviceable and or let us control when it bursts manually by holding left click and having it blow up when we release left click or it hits something.
    I will wait for the patch next week to use it any more thanks for coming to my ted talk.

    not gonna lie, while I wasn't under the assumption this would be an anti air weapon, I DID hope it'd at least explode in a more cone-shaped burst forward rather than in a big circle (which, with enough elevation would be close to a cone, I know)
    even under that assumption, this weapon is extremely underwhelming although I haven't tested it enough to call it disappointing yet

    And that is the problem with any support weapon that do not have any armor piercing capabilities. Because there isn't a substitute for it. People will cope that you can use the Eradicator or plasma shotgun until its a bile titan and then they flail around with half-tons, or completely rely on laser and railgun orbits. IF the cooldowns are available in the first place. In before they keep saying "it's better against the illuminates." I will say, as HD1 vet, it might be. I will steelman their positions on this one. The illuminates didn't particularly use armor plating as defesneive tools, they use energy shields like our backpack. This means penetration is not required and what's important is raw DPS, maybe even making the Stalwart, GPMG more viable. We will see if HD1 illuminates are making a return to HD2 or they are a completely new enemy. Judging from the current roster of bugs and bots, the core would be the same with some added enemies.

    Something ive found with the airburst if you hit the floor with it itll actually kill hulks in one shot if you shoot it behind them, shooting up will clear chaff over a large area. Albiet crapily. And hitting the floor will send the bomblets in a tighter area killing bigger enemies including tanks if ur lucky. It can be fun for bots when it works

    You know a really good fix IMO would be to have a mechanic where you ping a target or location while aiming with the normal ping function, and then the proximity detonation will only trigger near the pinged enemy/ location, ignoring everything between it and the user. No need for a fancy/shitty lock on like the spear, just using a basic mechanic to mark the location you want it to detonate. Then you could mark an enemy or location behind the group you want to hit, and not waste half of more of the explosion because it dets on the first basic enemy in front of the pack, or the hunter a foot behind you.

    Based on your experience on the Airburst, I do not think there is any way devs are going to actually "fix" the weapon this upcoming patch. Even if they give 3x the damage, shorter reload times, less proximity on air molecules to the weapon, it is still fundamentally broken. Like, the only way I can see this weapon working is the ability to one-shot gunships, one-shot hulks, and 2 shot tanks (yes, I mean it, give it full anti-tank capability) - then it may be worth the "high risk, high reward" aspect.

    This looks to have been recorded before the update today. In my limited testing it feels much better to use now after the update. Seems like it doesn't trigger on random clutter and terrain as much, and didn't test with mines and turrets, but it doesn't seem to trigger on resupply boxes or teammates anymore.

    i find using explosive resist light helps a ton when running it, also dive as you fire for more explosive resist bonus, and avoid shooting close to corpses as much as possible.

    once you see the round load into the icon on the weapons bar, if you double tap the strategem menu button it speeds up the reload for the airburst but man that gun is goofy. its fun atleast

      Me too, only had 2 accidents when playing it for the first time, never again. One because an enemy was too close, another because a bot rocket triggered it.
      I always pay attention to the rocket's path and my surroundings (mostly enemies or of someone is gonna get in the way) and i always use it on open spaces or high terrain.
      So to me, its kinda a skill issue lol

      Part of it is understanding how the cluster bombs burst out usually if they his something face on or proxy fuse near something they burst out in the opposite direction of said object so when useing it you have to hit the ground at a relatively flat angle as almost everybody ive seen complain about it shoot it directly as some enemies face and die while i in my experience haven't really had this problem only killed myself in with is about 4 times in 9 hours of learning how to use it tow of which where from getting shot staggered while fireing

    I think it needs like a 0.25s delay after the proximity sensor triggers before exploding. It explodes as SOON as it can, making it so that it explodes so far in front of the enemies to the point where only 1/2 to 1/4 of the explosions even hit. It also makes it explode closer to you, and you are considerably squishier.
    Of course, sometimes it hits just right and you just erase the entire westward direction.

    Hi, I have tested the airburst and have found the safest way to use it is to lie prone and fire parallel with the ground.
    The airburst has two trigger devices, as far as I can tell, one is to detonate prior to an impact. This means that if you are firing from a standing position at a downward angle toward the ground, or directly at an enemy, the rocket will detect that it is going to impact something and will detonate prematurely. In whatever position you are standing to fire the weapon, you should fire parallel to the ground to avoid this issue. Also of note is that the impact detonation trigger will cause the rocket to explode at a significantly greater distance from the target than the proximity detonation.
    The second trigger is a proximity trigger that causes the rocket to detonate when it detects it is in proximity of certain world objects. This includes supply drops, ammo boxes, stim boxes, super credit stacks, allies or enemies. For an example, in a scenario when you are firing over the top of a point of interest at an enemy beyond it, but there is an ammo box in the point of interest that you are unaware of, your rocket will never reach the enemy and will just repeatedly detonate over the ammo box. The proximity fuse is not triggered by rocks, foliage, trees, the ground, things like this. In fact you can fire directly through bushes and the upper part of some trees without the impact or proximity fuse triggering.
    In order to reduce the spread of the explosives, both to protect your own lives and to concentrate damage in a more focused area, the missile needs to detonate as close to the ground as possible.
    In order to achieve all of the above I have found the best way to fire the weapon is to go prone, fire just barely past the edge of a rock, parallel with the ground, and not directly at the ankles of any particular enemy, try to aim in the middle of the group but at an empty space, so that the proximity fuse triggers instead of the impact trigger. You can also fire using these same techniques from crouching or standing, however the higher above the ground the rocket flies the larger the area of the explosion will be and the less deadly it will be. (to enemies, it kills you just fine)
    If you want to use it at closer range I have learned to fire just around the edge of a large rock, while applying all the rules above, then immediately dive behind the rock for protection after firing. After i have started to do this I regularly get 6-10 kills per shot and rarely kill myself or my teammates. This will really only happen if there is some world object that i was unaware of just in-front of me.
    Remember, it smacks of treason to question the efficacy of super earths newly produced weapons!

    i have a solution for this weapon, its simple, hold left click to set the warhead charge timer on release it will fly off to the destination of interest and set off there, the longer the trigger hold the more you give time for the charger to set off

    Honestly, the only use I had for the AB rocket launcher is to shoot it towards a nest or a point of interest before engaging directly, but i find i hard to actually kill everything so i usually need to pick off a few and they usually call in reinforcements at that point

    I know you mentioned having an option to disable the proximity sensor. Another good fire mode would be safe mode, where the proximity sensor works but only after it's gone far enough downrange not to kill you. This is how M302 grenades work.

    I think the weapon should have an option where you can delay the fuse so when it gets near something that it can trigger it has a 2 or 1 sec delay for it to explode. This in turn would let you hit the middle of crowds and if you wanna use it for anti air you can just switch it to a default fuse

    You know, having a support weapon with the radius of an Eagle Strike seems nice on paper
    It even acts like one. By hitting yourself.

    A simple fix would be to give it a minimum distance from launch before proximity triggers, unless it hits something directly. Which you'd think they would'a thought of, to make sure the weapon's actually useable.

    It either needs to blow into a cone shape after detonation, or be an impact fuse instead of proximity.
