- Yes, I am back, after a gap of nearly 5 months, due to exams and commitments in the restoration department at Ruddington. Following the extremely successful visit of 3717 'City of Truro' in December and February to the GCRN, the first 3 weekends of the new running season would see a rather different loco on the line's services, in the shape of the Bressingham Steam Museum's LBSCR A1X 'Terrier' 0-6-0T 662 'Martello'. Due to the reduced water capacity of the 136 year old machine (500 gallons), services would only be operated as far as Rushcliffe Halt, with the Terrier top-and-tailing with one of the line's Diesels so as to prevent over-working the visitor. I went down on May Day Bank Holiday Monday, where Martello was working in tandem with Class 73 'ED' E6016. I wore a high visibility vest at all times when filming, locations featured being Ruddington Fields, 50 steps Junction, Gotham Sidings, Fairham Brook, and Asher Lane.
Martello's visit is but a brief one, she is operating again this Saturday and Sunday (Timetable A again), before, I believe, heading down to Loughborough.
I will be continuing with a focus on ex Southern Railway motive power in May Half term, when, after exams, I shall be visiting the Isle of Wight Steam Railway's 40th Anniversary Gala, as well as the general half-term running services at the Bluebell and Mid Hants Railways.
