This man is no only a master of the altissimo, he is a really good instructor. His explanations are very clear. I wish I had his abilities.

At the 2 min mark, when you start talking about not constricting the throat, that reassured me since I’ve noticed that my throat actually expands, especially when I’m playing altissimo C.

Bought the book and wow I can now hit into this register!! FINALLY!!!
    So big thanks first up!!!!!!!
Next thing is how do i play these notes in tune............or is this once again a time and practice thing. I'm finding I'm 40cents out of tune on the tuner (or is that 40c short of a dollar ;-) )

    On tenor, for altissimo G,
I press octave key and front F with the left hand, and side Bb with the right, although I have used other fingerings, and managed to pull it off. My fingerings are different on alto, but I don’t have more than one of either sax to make fingering comparisons with the same mpc/reed setup.

Hello, you probably don't remember me, but I bought myself a yamaha tenor sax last year december, and only practiced 2 months until I royally messed up my left hand, which has since then healed.
Despite having no teacher other than youtubers as yourself, and very little practice overall (when I practice, it's rarely over two hours, but then for a few weeks every day at least)...
But I hit altissimo G today. My first actual altissimo note, and while I had to use some whack fingering (octave key, first key, then side bflat and that one key I can't remember its name, its that other two set of 'palm keys' for the right hand, the lower one I used) but it worked, thanks to this video.
And the hilarious thing is, I have an easier time hitting altissimo G and in tune too, with that fingering than I have with high G normally, lmao. Thanks man, if my country ever stops demanding fingerprints for new IDs, I'll buy you a cake for sure. (no CC or paypal until then...)
It's just one note, and the fingering is really unwieldy, but this gave me the confidence that I can make it to altissimo after all. I'll never be a pro, but I can break past the standard keys. I can if I practice enough.

P.S.: And...I did it on the standard yamaha 4star or whatever it is mouthpiece, and a 2.0 legere synth reed, signature cut.
I have a lot of trouble hitting other notes up there still, but...a flicker of hope has been obtained...

It takes time to get to a pro level. it's never off limits to anyone

@@Sirvalorsax I will certainly keep on working at it!
(And yesterday gave me some more energy, yet I also fear the jinx, hence my somewhat silly take on it all)

I kept working at it and now I can play the G with the more 'regular' fingerings, but I can't play anything above it, lol.
So much for my plan on learning the 'hardest' first and then the rest will follow. I was a fool.
But I will become a better one.

Good afternoon l use the B fingering with the high F sharp key and l get altissimo G quite easily very cleanly.

Great video. Cool traffic sound effects 😜. Joking... I know your mic is picking up the loud outside traffic noise.

Her Sirvalor... Can I learn altissimo on a Soloist ? I'm hearing you can play altissimo on any mouthpiece out there. Do you say that's true ? I may just be a little quieter right ? I actually kind of like the idea of being quieter.

    • @benjaminmiller5649

you can definitely learn altissimo on any mouthpiece

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  3 роки тому +2

Yes you can but keep in mind the modern Selmer Soloist is a classical mouthpiece. They typically have a smaller chamber and a smaller tip opening which may make it difficult to learn altissimo if you are a jazz player. Vintage Soloist mouthpieces have usually been "opened" up for a more typical jazz sound. Also, the cost of the Soloist might be on the high side if this is a mouthpiece you want to learn altissimo on. I would start with one of the Yamaha "C" class mouthpieces. They are very easy to play and cost less than $50.
