I’ve never been big into anime but I watched the complete series of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball with my nephew because it’s a show he’s always loved, and I was actually surprised at how good it was. Really nice box set👍🏼 I might have to pick this set up for him.
My set just arrived today from Amazon. With Black Friday and a gift card I picked it up for only $84 Canadian (including shipping and everything). Can't wait to dig into it. I'm a late comer to Dragon Ball as well and was really hoping to not have to spend more on DBZ than I did on the other three series combined. lol
The things that sucks about these sets (like the "orange brick" season sets on DVD) is that the original 4:3 aspect ratio is chopped off by 20%-25% to a fake widescreen it was never intended to be viewed in. This is one of the worst examples of this kind of thing, because this was a show shot and fully intended to be seen in 4:3 full frame, you cut any of that and you're getting LESS picture than what's supposed to be there. It may not bother some, but it's the principle of the thing much like vice versa with how i dislike the "pan and scan" cropped 4:3 versions of movies on DVD and stuff from back in the day especially films which were filmed for specific widescreen aspect ratios like CinemaScope. It's cutting off picture that is meant to be seen. Simply put, i had to resort to getting one of the older OOP sets on DVD (Dragon Box) to get the proper version that isn't in the incorrect aspect ratio or the detail smeared to oblivion with garbage DNR. The video below highlights the long complex and infuriating saga of DBZ home releases, and boy have there been so many highs and lows. ua-cam.com/video/4jWfw-rrZrE/v-deo.html
@J's Blu-Rays So true, as a fan myself i had to go through a lot of effort to get the series with the proper 4:3. The fact that there hasn't been an easily available release with the original aspect ratio is a major disappointment to many fans. Force cropping the show to a fake widescreen format was a poor decision, and there's many points where it straight up looks horrible and unwatchable. Having to resort to buying an out of print release piecemeal for the proper 4:3 kind of sucked, though i didn't have much choice there.
And surprisingly more well-known than the original Dragon Ball. Whenever many people refer to the series as a whole, they usually call it Dragon Ball Z.
Nice, which version of the series? The 276 English dub? (The various episodes and scenes were cut from this version making the episode count 276 instead of 291, also has a different "better" soundtrack) Or this "remastered" original 291 version? (The edited episodes/scenes are left intact and all 291eps have the original Japanese score) Now I say "remastered" these aren't really remastered in fact these are quite bad, in many people's options, myself included! 😂
Hi Jay, can you recommend a good but not pricey option for playing these? I got the collection but I'm looking for options to watch them, whether on my laptop or an actual blu ray player that connects to tv via HDMI. Whichever works and is not pricey. How do you personally watch them?
I prefer a standard blu-ray player hooked up to a TV. You can do laptop, but then you have to buy an external drive (if you don't already have one), and then some computers may not already have the software to watch blu-rays automatically so then you might have to purchase that too. I personally never watch blu-rays on my computer for that reason.
@@soliolilee I have used a PS3 for years, so I don't have much experience with other blu-ray players. Unfortunately it looks like most of the cheapest ones brand new are just over $50, but maybe there's a store brand one you could get at like Walmart or Best Buy for cheap? Otherwise used is probably your best way to go.
Dont make me laugh dbz kai final chapters was rushed and half assed and they jumped over to 16:9,I prefer my dbz 4:3 so dbz 30th anniversary AND dragonbox are the best :)
nope, Gohan/Kid Goku's new voice actor is pathetic and compared to Falcouner's original soundtrack the Kai soundtrack is fucking pathetic as well. fuck DBZ Kai
As I'm a biggest Anime Queen that I am, I'm planning to buy Dragon ball z on bluray seasons 1 through 3 as I'm saving my money even know I've got my anime bluray collection so far😋

@@ZekeyX2004 It's a shame they never finished those, also if the Dragon Boxes weren't so expensive and hard to find then we could have the DVDs in 4:3 and uncut too!

Yeah, that's a real buzzkill. If I was more hard-core about this show, I'd be more irritated.

Dragon Ball Z is actually a longer-lived sequel to the original Dragon Ball anime.
