Also thank you for all your wonderful videos, I've been watching for a couple of years now and they've been truly enlightening and inspired me to start becoming a dog trainer myself.

I always carry spare water (old milk container) in the car, & a plastic salad bowl base from the pizza store, to serve as a dog bowl. For longer trips I freeze 1 or 2 containers, store them in my ice chest so they double as ice-packs for food. Great video Stonnie, thanks.
Wow I never realized that dogs lapped water like that. Thank you so much for sharing. Our mastiff drinks about 3 gallons of water per day. We keep our hose water with small round sprinkler on low throughout the day. Not only does he get water but the lawn gets watered at the same time. And since he constantly drools in his water and wants his water fresh, the outside water sprinkler comes in really handy.
Make sure to thank the dog for that educational slow mo. It answers the question that I have been wondering for years. Ps I always try to mimic the natural way first and foremost :D
@@StonnieDennis I'd watch them, as I'm sure you have evolved and adapted since you first made them. I've followed your methods since he was a pup and still learn from your style of training to this day ( 4 years later). Looking forward to seeing the Aussie Sheppard in training as mine is a Border Collie.
At the park here 2 or 3 dogs are racing, chasing, and wrestling at turbo speed every evening. My high-energy 8-month Mal gets super thirsty. So I take a jug of water along; and the other dogs end up drinking the water in my pup's water bowl. Thanks, Stonnie, for the GoodSamaritan suggestion. And thanks for the awesome slo-mo of that GSD drinking. Fascinating, and good to know. I'll send this video to others.
Mac Gyver would be proud of you! Great footage in slow-mo, I always thought the ladelling effect was the other way round, but those tongues curling backwards it news to me. ALWAYS something to learn on a Stonnie video!
One hundred percent. I got out of the habit of carrying a knife during undergrad. Got back into the habit of carrying a knife, a writing tool and a small flashlight and now I feel naked without them! Great tutorial and info! Keep it up!
@@StonnieDennis agreed. It was right of passage in my household growing up that when you turned 8 you were given your first pocket knife and taught how to use it!
I could not believe that there are people who truly think that squirting water at their dog is actually doing anything to hydrate their pooch!😵 Even as a kid (a LONG time ago), I made sure my dog had a container to drink from when outside. Good on you Stonnie for making this video. 👏👏 The tip about the Good Samaritan Hydration System was very cool, too. 👍😁
Good evening Stonnie!! This is a great topic; thank you for sharing it!! This is sooooo important for the pooches! We live in the Colorado mountains. So, my dog is out on a long range movement, at least, 4 times per week. In the spring, we generally have decent water sources frequently for the dog due to the snow melt. But once July comes, that run off comes to a trickle or dries up. I have a very similar system that you discussed: a collapsible rubber bowl, and we (the dog and I) carry 1 liter Nalgene bottles. I have a long hair german shepherd who greatly misses the snow in the summer time. We stop every 30-45 minutes for a water break. He will drink up to a 3/4 of a liter on every stop; especially if we are on a higher trail above treeline and he is in the direct sun for a few hours in addition to our elevation climbing. I also carry a small water purifier pump in the event I have to give the dog water that was originally for me. His most recent long range movement was about 20 miles over 2 14000ft mountains. Fortunately, at the bottom of each of those climbs were an active stream to resupply our water. Safe adventuring!!
I always have my Leatherman on me! After I quit smoking I always felt my pockets were too empty, so I started taking that. When you have it on you, you'll always find opportunities to use it. Hardly a day goes by that I don't.
Great video! I also keep collapsing water/food dishes, quick pet first aid, and towels in my vehicle in case I encounter strays or other pet owners that need extreme heat/cold attention. Some people get weird if you offer help, but you have to offer anyway - for the critter's sake! Love the Good Samaritan waterer!! Keep up the great lessons.
So fascinating! No idea that’s how their tongue worked. I always use a little fold up blue bowl. I was doing it right without knowing.😅I like your bowel too.
Great vid. I keep plastic coffee cans in the house truck, boat, porch....dogs love having access to them. The "Good Samaritan" jug is great. I'm going to make a couple.
And if you have a Labrador retriever they will bury their head up to their ears in whatever container you were trying to water them with LOL. We love the little collapsible silicone bowls. I have one that has a little D ring attached to it so you can just clip it to your belt loop.

They also sell water bottles for dogs . The lid is a bowl and there is a lock in the middle so you squeeze the bottle water then goes into the bowl at the top and the dog can drink it ...it's so convenient for about 20 bucks and you don't have to carry a bowl and a bottle .
I do the same! I Cary a big container of clean water. People need to refresh that water not just left in the car as the plastic leaches into the water.

most dogs are so thirsty including mine before they went on raw diet, that dry kibble sucks all the moisture out of them put a handfull in a bowl of water watch what happens, since raw diet I was shocked at how little they were drinking in the house where water is always available, now while hunting of course theyll drink plenty as they get a huge workout
You can go to most grocery store deli departments and ask them to hold an icing bucket for you. The buckets are 1 gallon food safe plastic with a water tight lid. Problem solved LOL. They last about a year before the handle breaks and then you take the handle off and cut a hole in the bottom and it becomes a dog toy, unless your dog likes to chew them up. You also drill a 1/2 inch hole an inch or so up the side and grow catnip in them. Rub the catnip on exposed flesh and your dogs coat to repel biting insects. Catnip isn't a substitute for flea and tick prevention and heart worm prevention, it reduces the number of bites keeping your pet more comfortable. Sorry for the long winded comment.
