I used to have a roland microcube, it was awesome. I bought a katana mini hoping it was going to be similar. It was close enough, but they cut the tuning fork, and effects. This one seems like it's closer to what the microcube was like, and a genuine improvement.
Great demo Ola!! Sounded very good indeed!! I have a feeling you would be able to get a great tone out of almost anything, you put sole into everything. Also, very nice to finally see a demo of the correct use of the head apparel they included too. I really enjoy eating those little sachets they include with new gear, a couple of those on a baguette and I'm set for the day. 🥖
I have a Katana mk2 head and it honestly rules so hard. The 5150 modeler with deep cab and my 7 string is fjorking tasty. Plus when I don't have space or room to use my cab it just has a .5w and 7w practice amo built right into the head. It's so good dude.
Is there any use for a head for those of us with tube amps? I was looking but hard pressed to find a reason, I used to be it's prime target market but I got pedals and tube amps now so
@@jackbootshamangaming4541 yeah man, a decent solid state makes a perfect backup head and if your playing at a sketchy venue and dont want to take the big bucks tube heads. my main head is a budda and i fucking hate taking that thing out to shithole bars
Boss did buy roland, so yeah, they are trying to fill that hole but many people say that those roland cubes were phenomenal, even for gigs. I didnt like normal katanas, but katana mini is amazing for what it is imo.
I have the Boss Katana 50 first generation and the thing is just a powerhouse of an amp. I prefer it over my Peavy Vypr and my old Fender Princeton Chorus.
Like some parts, some seem less good. Like the knobs and almost everything being on the front. Would make it easy to stash on the desk and have access to everything, but it's also a bit cluttered with the charge cable coming out there too. Don't think I'd upgrade from my non-X version, which was also only 70-ish bucks. Good amp nonetheless
I’m so happy to hear this demo again. It was my favorite Sundays with Ola demo ever since you demo’d Jared Dines’ Stingray guitar. That amp sounds killer too. Thanks for the review man.
I had the original katana mini and really liked it, it def had some downsides which this version addressed(rechargeable, tuner, more effects). I think they dropped the ball however not including an audio interface option which would have really made it useful. Then it would have been a real competitor for the Yamaha THR amps, especially being about half the price.
Does anyone really use this type of thing as an interface though? I have a bunch of products that double up like that and I've never used them once because I have a couple of actual audio interfaces 🙂
That sounds just f'n incredible! Consider me impressed. I previously had a Katana 50 mkII, and am after a mkIII EX, but this may just be the perfect practice/apartment recording amp IMO. Great video OLA!!! Much love from the central North Carolina sludge/doom community! 😈🤘💥
Doesn’t he have a giant decibel meter hanging on the wall behind him in most videos?! Like I’m literally looking at it in his wall of guitars on the right side! 🤔😂
I am torn now on which small amp to get for my desk now. The Fender Mustang LT40S, I like this one because of the small footprint, and you can use the app to tweak sounds. The Fender Mustang Micro Plus, I like this for the even smaller footprint and using the app to tweak sounds. Now, Boss Katana Mini X, I have owned the Mini, and I liked it. This looks like a great upgrade to the Mini. Being able to use an app to tweak sounds and store presets would be great, though. Which would you recommend?
Have a Mini myself. Once I got the GE7 to saturate presence, I was very happy AFTER with that for a bit. The 4" driver is for players that already have an ear & understand the guitar's role in a band... Maybe not beginners. The Behringer HA40R is a GREAT pedal platform. Not perfect, just great.
Not bad... did the technology improve that much? I had a Meteoro amp until 2019 and it was terrible. I don't remember how many Watts it had, but it was way below 50W
would you recommned this over the Orange Crush 20 rt ? I'm looking for my first amp to start playing guitar and i really liked the video of the Orange Crush 20 rt , but i stumbled upon this video right before i made the purchase .
Any idea what the frequency response is? The original had a nice sound but doesn't reproduce the low E's 82 Hz fundamental frequency well if at all. I therefore preferred headphones, even though i don't like headphones :-)
Try a Monoprice 15 watt tube combo. They're only about $250 and just 1 channel, but have 3 preamp tubes, 2 power tubes, a spring reverb and an effects loop. Harley Benton also makes one for European players.
the boss street cube and the me90 effects processor i use with the rc5 looper pedal to busk and shred at the beach. on baterry power. highly recomend. you can link 2 street cubes for a stereo rig.
After looking at far too many reviews, trying far too many amps, losing far too much money along the way, something clicked in my brain and presto, I’ve entered Jazz sound Walhalla. I just connect the earphone output of my Fender Mustang Micro to a Sangean U4 (a fairly simple ‘builders’ radio) and that’s it. The versatility of the little Fender (amp modelling, effects) gives me plenty to experiment with and the (brilliant!) Sangean has totally acceptable sound for home use (not forgetting FM, DAB, blue tooth connectivity etc). And if necessary it all works on batteries if you want. And I’m fine without all the overhyped app-tweeking. So I’m not falling for the commercial traps set by amp manufacturers again. Maybe I’ll change my mind when I start gigging, but that’s a highly unlikely scenario. Would love to see someone showing this solution on youtube
I'd consider it if I didn't get the Roland Stereo Cube last year for half the price. It has two channels, one for my looper and the other for my guitar. I play mostly acoustic electric so I don't need all those effects.
so it can only be powered by rechargable batteries? not plugged in to play? can it work via the usb cable plugged into a laptop? (pls dont shoot me for asking, im not very techy lol)
If anything you should take a look at a Yamaha THR10X or a THR30II. They have a decent amount of girth, speaking in terms of tone, despite being so small.
I'll be honest with you: The original Mini seems to sound better than the new version. I have one myself, and it is impressive even today (considering its size and niche). This newer version didn't impress me at all. The original one is simpler but responds awesomely with pedals, turning it into a VERY good practice amp if you have a couple of pedals. These built in effects in this one are mediocre at maximum.
🤦♂️ I've only had my Boss Katana mini v1 for like 6 months. It's really good, but damn this X seems great! I guess only difference is that the delay on the 1st one is much more adjustable, while here the effects are very limited to adjustment. Not sure i like that. Thanks for the demo Ola! 🤘
My Marshall sc didn’t solve the problem of my 800 being too loud for my condo so I think this will be perfect! Sweet review dude they should give you a commission check 😂
When you first started playing, I thought it was a Breaking Benjamin riff. Also, I liked the "oh, shit yeah" when you switched to the brown channel and that high gain feedback came out.
Do not like that it does not have a power supply! What if the battery dies in a few years and you cannot recharge it anymore? With the USB power you have to have the amp close to your computer!I think a power adapter would have been a better option!
Bass-Metal-Treble. I’m sold

You may want to try playing through one and hear it not in Ola's studio gear setting
One more amp for my neighbours to review!
😂
I guess it passes when the cops show up. 🤣
1:10 Clearly Ola has grown a tail and is excited by the new product...

no horns angus young highway to hell though lol
As if we ever needed more proof that Ola sounds like Ola, no matter what he's plugged into!
😂
So true bro
Will it Ola: yes
Attention, there is a Boss Katana cutting through the mix..
wow, that sounds perfectly fine in the mix
Really appreciate the review, Ola! Can't say I'm going to buy that lil' sucker, but I'm happy to have the chance to hear what it has to offer.
I love that it looks like a proper amp just smol.

Ive been stuck on my boss katana mkII for a few years now. Unbelievably good amp for the price. 🤘
Hey Ola!! Theres a tail wagging during the unboxing., 😄🐶
I have the 50 watt katana. And that thing rips my house. Love that practice amp!!!!
I have to keep mine on the 0.5watt setting until my neighbor goes to work 😂
I tried a Katana in the store. The treble made by ears bleed and could not be dialed out. Much preferred the Line6 Catalyst sound.

Love the bag over the head. I always wanted to try that.
I love that the first thing we see Ola play on it is really metal and melodic and sounds awesome and kicks ass!!

Can't connect to the mobile app or tone studio? I'll just stick with the Katana Go and maybe grab the Spark Mini for a desktop amp
I picked up the Line 6 Catalyst CX200. 2x12. It's impressive for use with my Line 6 Helix LT. It is a good practice amp too and for jams
Super cool little amp…I have the 212 100w katana 2…it’s been amazing, and it looks like boss will continue making an affordably great product…

Yep get ready for updated regular katanas with that tuner integrated. $$$$$
Do a Roland Microcube vs boss katana mini X. The microcube is legendary for its classic stack preset, especially for that price.
That sounds really good to my ears....ready to record an album!...dig it
4:27 Is magically unplugging your input a feature? 🤔🤔🤔
When you started playing about 2:40 was that using the DI out on the Mini X? Trying to understand i that was the amp or something else?
I do like the control panel in front, hopefully they do a mini head that can be cool
sounded great! i use an Alesis Cube but i have no doubt this would be just as good...

something about those scratchy highs I don't like ... but that's due to the speaker size I guess.
Could be the mic position as well, there's a chance it'll sound nicer IRL.
The base 50W is also quite fizzy on the high ends but the incorporated EQs in the app really do wonders
