This review took a very long time to make. I appreciate your thoughts on this topic, and would love to see this discussion shared on places like Twitter, Reddit, & other sites so more people can contribute and have all the information before they decide what 4K OLED monitor they want to buy in 2024. Thanks for watching. Thank you to my Patreon Supporters for helping fund reviews like this: patreon.com/TheDisplayGuy
should i return the monitor? I got it for around $1100 (new). I have it for 4 days now, and I've liked it so far as i came from 2k 240hz ips from Alienware. I'd like to get the qd-oled by MSI but it just never comes in stock. I only have about 10 days left to return. I usually game in a dark room with controlled lightings.
Personally I’m returning mine and using an LG C4 or 32” MSI QD OLED until the gorilla glass version launches in August. It’s ultimately your call though.
hhhmm would say if you don't play pubg which's time is like 5% of it in Erangel's fog and you've not seen glossy, there's no problem. Until you start as a player of pubg. With 20 cm of distance to the device. I would say anything matte is simply a fail then. A not glossy is simply good to look at if it's off.
Every two weeks, lg discounts their oled monitors and tv between 300 to 500 off on their websites and through best buy. If this monitor is around in June,i will be getting this monitor.
Yesterday I got my AW3225QF and I'm so happy. Here in Germany it's nearly the only 32" OLED available and also the cheapest one. I love the glossy finish and the eARC feature. The design matches the PS5 pretty well. Thank you for your honest stuff.
I have been using this monitor (LG 32GS95UX-B) for over 2 weeks, it is not a bad device, but the advantages of an OLED (if you are used to LG c2, c3 or Apple displays like the Studio Display or PRO XDR) do not really come into their own. Glass or glossy would simply make the colors pop much more and the font would also be much sharper on the LG 32GS95UX-B. I hope LG brings out one with a glossy coating for the next model at the level of the LG C series models, that would simply be a DREAM!
What's the problem? There are more glossy monitors on the market than matte monitors, go ahead and choose yours. Matte is for those who use the monitor as their main monitor all day long for everything, not just gaming.
Matt monitors are objectively better than glossy monitors, especially if they are selling to gamers. Many people have windows next to them, or like to play with the lights one, and the glare is really annoying. It’s kind of crazy because years back when I first built my pc, people would complain about how there WASNT enough Matte monitors. And every monitor reviewer would say to go for a matte finished monitor because it was the best you could buy. It feels like we’re going backwards now
I was looking at these 240Hz QD/W OLED monitors, going to buy one... and after watching your stuff bought the S90C today. I really hope that it's good for PC gaming.
@@thedisplayguy Yea that is the thing, the 240Hz 4k monitors are selling in EU significantly more expensive than in US, for example the MSI one that I keep hearing is like 900$ in US, is like 1500+$ in EU which is absolutely ridiculous. The S90C 55" was on sale for 1000$. Main reason I want to try it, is because I was actually blown away just by HDR on the frist gen QD OLED monitor the AW3423DW.
@@Craigd1970 I have it fully unlocked to 1900-2000 nits, it's insane. Certainly can recommend, there's nothing better, except for the new 95D which if unlocked should do close to 3000, which sounds pretty ridiculous.
I have this monitor and I made the right choice on getting the matte coating for my use case. I have 4 Ikea Detolfs behind me that have LEDs on each shelves and usually play guitar with all the lights on. If that was a QD-OLED, the raised blacks would bother me like crazy. Plus, I like to play horror games with all the lights on and the black is still black and the colors are still vibrant. It really all depends on how you will use it. On a well lit environment, get the LG and if you can control the lighting, get the QD-Oleds.
As i commented pro glossy here and in other videos, that's perfectly fine. Matte is better in a bright environment. Ideally, we'll get a perfectly non reflective surface some day. Until then, manufacturers should offer both variants so no one gets the impression of being forced to use something he doesn't like.
How does it compare vs other matte monitors? I really don't know what to think. Some reviewers said it was a relatively mild matte coating and looks nice. This guy is screaming about it being horrific and I see other people commenting the coating is so bad that it makes 4K look like 1080p. Which seems... unlikely.
just bought this monitor, never noticed the vertical banding..... until I watched your video, tested on dark theme windows file explorer, and now I noticed
i understand xian but for my part: 240 for over 3 years - 240 isn't dope anymore and nomore at all. absolutely. office quality for me. (and was before - I'm sensitive or objective) on the other hand. 480 then will be dopy anytimes
I purchased this display for $1100 after tax and coming from a 42” C3 I have to say the gaming performance is noticeably better. I only notice the matte coating in a negative way on my windows taskbar. Is Qd oled better, possibly, but I have no issues with this product. These displays have been overhyped for a while now and everyone wants the first iteration to be perfect.
Got it, agree it’s way too over priced, but fear of market drove me to snag it regardless. As expected I don’t mind the matte, it’s glossier than I expected. The 480 hz is incredibly smooth, and the 1080p looks crisp because it’s a true 4:1 conversion. I chose this one because I want 32 inch, not 27. Even at 1080p I still want 32. I get what you mean about the black crush, I’ve noticed that too. Adjusting the black level is a trade off between black blacks and faded blacks. HDR looks great, although I don’t see myself using it often. I’m using an HDMI 2.1 cable so idk if I have any issues with compression right?
The coating is perfect on the LG 32GS95UE, this guy is just parroting information he doesn't understamd, unless you're pixel peeping you're not noticing the matte at all.
@@dalebeefsteak119 I got a normal desk (160x80) and pushed it all the way back. Had neither of those problems with my old 27" UHD LG (with also a mate coating). Also I tried playing Helldivers 2 in HDR and the colors are so bad I seriously thought my screen is broken. And yes I expect HDR to work properly on a (in my case 1299€) monitor. I mean if it works for you, great. I am considering sending mine bad. I will get a Gigabyte QD OLED in this week and will be able to directly compare the technologies. Also do you also get that crazy dimming when you view documents or bright websites? o_O
@@dalebeefsteak119 i agree with you he must be sitting to close because i have both monitors right now and it look amazing. I also just picked up the Samsung g8 and the colors on the Samsung are really good. only thing i like better on the Samsung G8 is the smart features without having to turn your pc on. like for my kids etc.
Damn. I was quite excited for this one. I had the LG 27" OLED from last year. It also had severe vertical banding that did not go away with pixel refreshes and crushed near-black details (impossible to fully fix with calibration/settings), just as you described here. Combining those issues with the matte coating, the viewing experience was honestly too dirty, especially on dark mode desktop apps. I couldn't justify keeping it for those reasons. I was surprised that no reviews mentioned those issues back then. This one seemed kind of perfect on paper, but if it's still suffering from the same problems, I just can't. Thanks for actually testing and talking about those things, other reviews don't.
So basically this guy is telling his viewers not to buy this panel mostly because of the matte coating, all this guy does is complain about the same thing every time, which he fails to understand that some people prefer this type of display, its all according to what you are looking for. It's one thing to disagree on the coating that is used for the display, but to constantly go on a rant spree about this issue, its starting to get old now. Good thing there's other tech youtubers with more subs and viewers who have more valid details on monitors
@@lightning2516 and he is full right!!!!! some people prefer this type of display for what reason? because you can have less clarity? less color vibrancy? or just because they review the product lg samsung asus dell send to them for free and they can keep it for sell it? in this video he talk and present proof about the trash Matte, and is not the only things he mention!! no shadow detail, no improve with bright(that this pannel can do), hdr is bad and color preset is not really good enough? i used some oled monitor, i really do care about clarity and i change it the monitor because this matte is not giving me any pro but only bad things so im glad thedisplayguy talk about that and i can choose better without waste money!!!
Thanks for being honest. Which QD OLED is best for mixed use? I work from home and I use a lot of Excel, programing, etc. I've head some people get headaches from QD OLED which is concerning.
I returned my Asus 32 inch 4k old due to severe headache due to vrr and rapid brightness change, and takes a while to get used to if u want to work on it. I ended up getting apple studio display 5k
Did you figure out which monitor would be best? I have the same issue. I also use Excel all day but looking for an OLED monitor. The Apple Studio display is apparently good (as the other guy said) but just wondering if there are any alternatives.
@@tedshep Unfortunately not. I think ideally it would something like a semi-gloss W-OLED panel, but I'm not confident in it surviving burn-in, and all W-OLED panels only have a 2 year warranty. LG are supposedly releasing a 1440p "true black" IPS 360 Hz display towards the end of the year so that might work.
Due to home office , I work a lot on my MBP connected to my current LG 49" and game a few hours a day. Id buy anytime the LG 32" if it had a USB-C port, thats very annoying. I then have to wait until they release something next year though
Thanks for this amazingly detailed review @thedisplayguy! I'm curious, what non-gaming monitor would you recommend with some of these characteristics: OLED, 30-32", thin bezels, bright (~500nits+ as I use it with my MBP)?
Honest because he says it’s bad? Seems like this guy has a thing against matte coating. When people are comparing monitors side by side non-objectively, you should believe that. This guy is clearly biased
@@IAmDWill You didn't listen or watch the part where he talks about the shadow and color issues? In addition to the matte coating issues for a monitor that is priced that high? If you wanna stay a fan boy and don't want to really listen to the arguments that's fine but don't lay them out so proudly ... it looks stupid. By the way "This guy is clearly biased", .. that is a weak statement when the guy bought this monitor with his own money, shits on LG's monitor which is a huge deal in the monitor business and this video isn't even sponsored. Try harder
@@SuperNova-gc7tm let’s be real for a second, like actually real. most PC gamers are spending 3K to 4K on builds. A person who has the money which is MAJORITY of the demographic who is actually searching “4K OLED monitor” doesn’t care too much about a $100-$200 price difference on a monitor they actually want over another. The same demographic who even though ALL cell phones are overpriced will still buy the best one because it’s the best.
@@IAmDWill This again is not relevant. The better monitor to buy in this price range, is the asus 32" inch 4K OLED, without the matte coating, the better color and shadows. for a few more hundred dollars, the asus makes more sense. That's what he is saying .. the LG is not worth that money. Noone who can afford to pay around 1500$+ wants to waste it on a product that is worth 600-700$
I just got the lg. the matte does shimmer on solid Colors. I’m trying Qd OLED but depending on brightness. May pass all together. Mainly use was productivity. So for games. Maybe not a huge issue. And colors def. Seem muted.
I got this monitor from pre order and got the 15% off so it was almost $1200 which is still a lot more expensive than the QD Oleds. I replaced my AW3423DW (which was also pre ordered in 2022) and I agree with almost everything you said. One thing I like about this monitor though is in HDR the reds tend to be more of a deep rose red than the QD Oleds which look orange in my eyes... greens look better imo too. My biggest gripe is I 100% agree that the brightness and EOT curve needs to be fixed ASAP, this monitor in HDR is WAY darker in some scenes like the max brightness is 600 nits WTF???? Also with my AMD gpu, the driver doesn't say AMD Premium Pro... just Adaptive Sync Compatible.. and I can tell... Another disappointment is yeah... 1080p looks horrendous, my native 1080p secondary monitor looks way better than scaled down 4k to 1080p. However, at 24" mode and turned the sharpness to 70, its quite a bit of a difference than the trash 1080p 32".
Order mines already. If you’re just going for display sure get something else, I picked this one for its 400hz and option to resize the screen because it benefits the type of games I play, otherwise I’ve would’ve just gotten a tv
@@HenrySavinon True. I can see the use case of that monitor for games like CS2 but i hate matte coating . I ended up getting an LG C2 42" because i now play more single player games and the LG C2 is glossy.
I agree 💯 with you in this review. I just exchanged the 32GS95UE for an AW3223QF because 1) the ridiculous price coupled with the lower quality coating and 2) the coating. Although the coating is improved you still can make it out against lighter backgrounds and just like you say for this price and premium quality in all other areas I just can’t see myself spending this much for a downgraded coating. Since I do like flat though this thing would have to be max $900 for me to go for it.
My set up is in our living room with a large window next to me. Would you go QD Oled or this LG Oled. Even with the blinds closed it still gets very bright in the room.
you gotta pick your poison, have matt screen and deal with lower brightness but better reflection handling or high brightness and maybe matt or glossy coating but at the same time with qd oled if your room is bright the blacks dont seem perfectly black since the technology is like that in bright rooms
You went off the deep end after you started shitting on QD-OLED after praising it, BUT I 100% agree with you on THIS issue. These matte coatings have a negative impact on the visual presentation. I thought it was drama until I saw the LG 27 inch 240 Hz OLED, but I quickly sold that and upgraded to the 32 inch QD-OLED.
The 27" LG had worse subpixel structure, lower brightness and a worse matte coating (more grain) compared to this new one, I assume this new one isn't so bad.
@@houssamalucad753 Yeah, I was disappointed with it. I bought it to be close to endgame and it came nowhere close. It was still good, but my Alienware 32 inch 240 Hz 4K QD-OLED blows it away.
I have an LG C3 and I believe this problem with the vertical lines also exists because it is w-oled. After long research I decided on the Alienware AW2725DF, when oled; glossy; 27 inches (32 I think is too big for me); 1440p 360hz (in my opinion, perfect for today); and the icing on the cake... 3 years full warranty (including image retention, burning). Honestly, I thought this mode option that LG implemented on this monitor was really cool. In my opinion, LG should tip the scales towards oled, glossy and, above all, full guarantees for its monitors. Excellent video! 😎👍
I think the matte coating is really a very subjective thing. I use this monitor not just for gaming, and I really like the matte coating on this one. I would have never bought it, if it was glossy. Otherwise I can agree with a lot of the points you make.
This is exactly why I subscribed to your channel. You really tell it like it is, and I commend you for standing up for the consumer instead of trying to make a quick buck from these companies. I absolutely hate matte finishes, especially the super grainy kind. Like you said, LG has better coatings, and it baffles me that they willingly and knowingly put the worst coating on this monitor because they think the pros outweigh the cons. I get that they're trying to appeal to competitive players and minimize light reflection at max settings, but since they're also trying to appeal to casual and enthusiast players who enjoy crisp, detailed, clear, and vibrant images, this monitor shoots itself in the foot. The issues you mentioned, like the coating and the loss of details in dark scenes, make it feel like this monitor is fighting itself. This honestly affects both spectrums of players that LG is trying to appeal to.
Is there something wrong with the 480hz mode? Please set the resolution to 1920x1080 in 4k/240hz mode (full screen). Then in 480Hz mode 1920x1080 (fullscreen) and compare the picture. For me it's a difference like day and night Absolutely blurred somehow distorted in 480 Hz mode :( Compare images or text. Can someone confirm this?
I do agree, 480hz is almost there to the reference image of the u.f.o. This monitor is a casuals oled monitor. An enthusiasts buys a QD oled at 55 inch or greater, glossy screen, optimizes hdr black floor and hdr settings on games with reshade, etc. Etc. Do you really think a casual buying this matte oled even had an idea of what reshade is? Probably not.
Amen on horrid shadow detail. In the Lagom black level test using the sRGB preset the first block that was distinguishable was 6. My PG32UCDM shows 1 when targeting the sRGB gamma or two when targeting a flat 2.2 gamma.
I mean as long as it has 100% srg it is fine for screen work. I worked on game of theones justice leage etc with gaming displays and it was good after carefull calibration. Just not sure about this texture om the panal with pure whites. I think i need to see in real life
@@watchmanplain5780 If I remember correctly, I don't think it's exactly 100%. Pretty close, but not 100%. There's better options for visual work at lower budgets. This is kind of overkill in my opinion.
How does everyone else who actually bought one of these feel about that matte coating? I feel like this guy is complaining about it because it IS a matte display. I NEED a matte display. How does it compare to other matte coatings is what I need to know. It does look nasty in these close ups where he's blasting torch light into it. But in all footage I've seen of actual gameplay on this monitor it looked great.
bought it a couple of days ago. dunno what this guy means. this display looks awesome. i dont like glossy displays cause they are really annoying with the reflections. im in a basement where light is almost not present so maybe that matters. i got around here because his video landed on my feed and i was curious what he doesn´t like. i can only say never believe in one review. we have return policy. try it out and send back when you dont like it.
I am new here, thank you for this review, very informative and I like your war against mate coating. I do game, but not so much, I am using my computer for work, for coding, reading etc. I am with a iiyama XB2776QS-B1 with a AH-IPS LED-backlit (back then that was impressive) and I unsure if for my use an OLED monitor, Q-OLED or any other will be favourable, due to the burn-in effect. What are your take
I will have many more reviews and comparison videos coming. I suggest watching them and other creator’s reviews and deciding for yourself what best fits your use case.
I just pick this monitor up from Best Buy and I’m ready to return it. The matted screen kills the quality way too much. To 240/480hz works like advertised. 1080p mode looks more like a terribly bad down scale. If you simply change your resolution to 1440p 240 no scaling that looks 1000 times better over the 480 option. I now 1440p 240hz is the sweet spot. I think I’m finally ready to go wide screen too.
If you're paying more than $1k for this monitor, you're doing it wrong. Plenty of coupon codes and cashback offers that can get this down to sub $900 without much trying. At that price, it's a no brainer.
Just ordered one for 929 euro, been looking for some deals the last couple off months. Fixed price here in the EU is 1329 euro, "refurbished around 1180 euro. Until last night; 999 euro, and with some promotion offered by my job just 929 for me. I'm excited, the monitor I'm using right now is an LG 34" ultrawide IPS from back in early 2016, so it'll be a upgrade regardless.
16:19 Such a blanket statement. Go tell that to Eizo, Boland, Canon, FSI, Konvision, Kroma, NEC (among other high end brands), that have monitors with 5 digits price tags. Not all matte coatings are bad, or are they?
I would say all matte coatings are inherently bad for picture quality. It’s just a matter of how bad, and if you’re ok with that sacrifice to have a diffused reflection rather than a clear reflection.
@@thedisplayguy the funny thing is that so many huge UA-camrs talk about the difference between matte and glossy, saying that you can't see the difference and that they prefer the matte coating. I think either they're paid to say that or they're ignorant and biased.
I seem to remember reading the new anti-glare coating on the Samsung S24 Ultra is "Nano Matte", and Apple is also has nano-matte screens, so it seems not ALL matte coatings are bad, just the only good type of matte coating is "Nano Matte".
@@budthecyborg4575 idk about that nanomatte but is simply your phone is used most of the time in a bright evironment so matte help you a lot and is a little screen..........so you don't lose much quality! we are talking about 32!
@@Dragostream I had the LG 27GR95QE-B wich is 1440p resolution and 27" and the matte coating is horrid. The screen looked oily and it made the image look like 1080p instead of 1440p . I returned it the next day and got the LG C2 42" wich is everything i want.
Issues: Where is information if 1080p 480Hz mode has integer scaling or not. Where is information about other than Gamer1 HDR modes? I have two LG monitors and I know default Gamer1 mode always has black crush while other modes usually have gradient issues which then LG fixes in FW. So does black crush exists in Gamer2 mode?
In the US these things can't be found - it is a wasteland for those things. The cynical side of me says - this was done on purpose since the price is very different (lower for us) than in other regions. So the supply is practically non-existent where that is the case.
I got mine here right now (preordered in Germany) and ufff. The coating absolutely is an issue (amazing how some people sugar coat it, the coating on my old LG 27 UHD monitor is mate too and by far not as bad and grainy). I've an Gigabyte QD OLED on it's way to me so I'll be able to compare them. I also tried playing in HDR (Helldivers 2) and the colors are completely all over the place. Like what is this? It was so bad, that I seriously thought my screen is broken.
@@WiseGuyFTW The Gigabyte was MUCH better. The coating alone makes everything look crisper and the HDR performance is by miles better. You need to watch the mode but in the correct one you get a very good EOTF tracking. I still sent it back and cancelled the ASUS which I wanted to try. I decided that for now 32" is just too big for my taste and as there aren't any 27" 4K OLED screens I'll stick to my old LG IPS. I'm still tempted to try out the glossy 1440p ASUS WOLED for example and there's coming a WOLED 480HZ version (mate coating again though). If you want a 32" I recommend it if you got a deeper desk or you use a monitor arm (or plan on getting one). Don't underestimate the size difference between 27" and 32". Still the OLED factor and the colors are really good. I'll definitely get one in the future, just not sure which one. Remember what we got now is the first gen of 4k 32" OLED screens and NVidia announced a partnership with Mediatek to integrate GSync into their displaydriver chipset. It really depends on what you want. There's some advantages rn too, the 480HZ WOLED ASUS offers a different subpixel layout for more clarity for example which the glossy 240HZ version doesn't offer.
I like matte displays on my laptop and I kinda regret picking Oled razer Blade over mini led razer blade. In short oled picture was better in dark rooms, in brighter rooms mini led won picture quality including blacks and punchy colors. Reason? Oled glossy screen was too reflective, distracts the quality in brighter rooms.
It just sucks how expensive OLED gaming monitors generally are in Europe. For example the ASUS PG32UCDM is 1800 usd (as opposed to 1300 in the US). For context, a 65 inch LG C3 is about 1550 usd nowadays.
Yeah, the only exception seems to be the Alienware. However, since I don't want neither a curved monitor or one with a Fan, sadly this isn't an option!
@@TecraX2 Yeah, it's probably a supply issue. I imagine they don't get that many of them here so they sell them at much higher prices while the TVs are mass produced and have high availability everywhere.
@@GoldenSW I'm sure there are overall supply issues initially, but it still doesn't make sense that the MSI model costs almost twice as much in Europe vs US!

@@chrisbenn rub two brain cells together for me. If you want to only compare to OLED, then your statement is still incorrect because OLED TVs exist which have much better brightness. You know? You can technically buff out the matte finish, but it obviously voids a warranty, requires a little bit of knowledge, and there's a potential risk of damaging it.
@@domosapien I'm a automotive car painter so i have all the types of polishing paste and polishing machines. The Heat from a polisher could melt the screen if your not careful or wrong paste will scratch to deep so i understand . Where is the info on polishing the matte i can't find any info?

@@sean.d7171 Although you obviously aren't a complete novice, I'd still recommend "experimenting" on a very cheap or preferably broken matte monitor first... Even if you're successful, that still leaves the issue regarding the warranty!
I bought one, I prefer matte over glossy (untreated), but certainly the higher end TV's use glossy panels with anti-reflective coatings that work quite well, probably skipped as a cost cutting measure. Also 1080p 32" looks fine playing valorant when I have the monitor pushed all the way to the back of my desk, which I do anyway given the size.
I think I’m ok with it, I’m admittedly an LG homer so I’m going to stick with it. I concede it shouldn’t have been 1400$ but I still love it. Hopefully they put out a worthwhile firmware update soon
matte coating is better for work and picture on OLED looks fantastic.. dont belive this Display Guy dude who is opssesed with glossy finish. If You ask me he is trolling
Yeah, oddly out-of-touch. If you go to r/Monitors or oled_Gaming people gush over the various semi-matte and semi-gloss coatings. A LOT of people who purchase these use them for work as well, not as a dedicated sunless-cave gaming monitor..
Who is it for? Man, I want to play Ghost of Tsushima in 4k with HDR and then go play Valorant in 480Hz. I don't want to have two monitors on my desk. There is no other monitor that can offer me a similar experience. awesome monitor, I will definitely buy it when it comes to Europe
Gotta be honest.. after seeing the in depth detail matte vs glossy coating you did in this review, you are 100% right. Matte coating is horrible especially when causing that blur. I didn’t want to believe it for this monitor but what you showed in this video TRULY says it all. But I mean hey if people choose to waist $1400 on a 50/100 display that’s on them 🤷🏼♂️ all I’m saying is.. GET WHAT YOU ACTUALLY PAY FOR PEOPLE!!! 🙏🏼
If you're talking about his comparaison on the spectrum one (Eve) then it's not relevant here. The glossy QD OLEDs are not as glossy as normal glossy monitors, and this matte LG is less matte than typical matte displays. Another youtube already talked about it and said the difference in clarity between the 2 coatings is barely noticeable on these new OLEDs at least
price (1400$) and matte coating completely destroy the advantage of this monitor vs QD OLEDs, i hope that ASUS or others brands will have this panel with glossy coating and with a little bit of tuning improve the 10% window white HDR Brightness
Eh, I've owned this monitor for over a month now. I work 100% from home and it's better than QD-OLED for work AND play. It's a COMPUTER MONITOR, not a TV. I have a 77 inch S90c and the new QD-OLED monitors are a joke compared. I think what I'm trying to say is the LG is a good fit if you want a computer monitor to do computer things. The QDOLED monitors are gimped at the end of day and don't come close to a TV. If you can afford to drop $1000+ on a monitor, get the TV too atleast
What has happened to LG and their gaming monitors? The 27gp950 (which I own) has a great semi-gloss coating with a bright, vibrant picture. Since then, they seem to have gone with heavy matte coatings and low-nit dim displays (or an aggressive ABL that kills brightness potential). I have the 27gr95um 4K mini-led, and have been so let down by it due to it's horrible inverse ABL that kills peak highlights (and overall brightness) when the screen has any dark areas(using Gamer Profiles 1 or 2, which are the only ones that don't use weird unchangeable gamas, contrast settings, etc). I'm guessing they did this to reduce blooming but it destroys the impact of HDR peak highlights in the process. In my opinion, compared to the Innocn 27m2v (which I also own), the 27gr95um doesn't even seem like an HDR display (when HDR is enabled). On paper, with more dimming zones and also being HDR 1000 certified, it has the potential to be better in HDR over the Innocn, but in practice it fails. They released one firmware update and apparently gave up on it and abandoned it (it has been at a discounted price for a while and, at least as of a month or so ago, told me there are no further plans for more firmware updates). On top of that, they lied to me about how to fix the dimming of the display (in the Q&A section on the monitor's page). LG told me to simply turn off "DFC' in the monitor's settings, but the problem is, the 27gr95um does NOT have a DFC setting (like many of their monitors do). Sorry to rant, but LG slapped their supporters in the face with that monitor.
1ms mprt isn't the endgame for motion performance at all, it's endgame for 960pps a slow motion speed. that's why you see sites like rtings now using 1920pps the bar was set low intentionally because 60hz sample and hold was so bad. endgame would be pixel perfect motion at max eyetrackable motion speeds. endgame for strobioscopic artifacts is more like 20khz(no visible gaps inbetween the frames at a fixed gaze)
I once owned a glossy display - never again. If a want a mirror I buy a mirror. The red hue of QD-OLED in a brightly lit room is unacceptable to me. My office has windows and I let the sunlight in. I am not sitting in a dark room for 10 hours every day just to "enjoy the superior image quality of a glossy display".
As someone who's used the 27 inch version of this, and a samsung odyssey g8 oled ultrawide. Ur making the matte coating and brightness seem like a much larger issue than it is lmao.
Update: I got a 32gs95ue, its fantastic. I truly hate the magenta tint on qd-oleds, and I think the fragile semi-gloss coating is a half assed solution. Not only is the matte coating on this monitor more of a semi-matte, its implementation is purposeful! I love the anti-glare property, yes this is my opinion, and thats why I would like to highlight that we all have our opinions, and that its important to not treat them as life or death. Its a bit dramatic 😂, screams pandering to children imo
@@thedisplayguy People use their monitor for everything not ONLY gaming. And even if YOU don't like the coating, it does not mean EVERYBODY. I also don't like it but it gives people options and that is always a good thing.

@@DrakonR What a bullshit comment. In some companies you can actually choose the gear you want. This monitor may very well end up in an office. @@interceptor001 "This monitor may very well end up in an office. " So could every other monitor. This is a nothing argument. "And where is the market saturated with matte OLED monitors?" "So stop forcing your ideas for a monitor down everyone's throat and give people the option to choose." Hold up a mirror. The market is saturated with matte displays. They have options to choose. But people who want a glossy monitor only have one choice. That's not equal by any stretch of the imagination nor is it a choice. If you legitimately want options, you would be in support of glossy. Just saying.
8K at 32" is overkill, 5k & 2K dual mode display is already endgame, Apple studio monitor clarity for work, and 480hz 1440p clarity for fps gaming. That is already true endgame, and if they somehow add BFI it would have 960hz motion clarity and at that point nothing can be better
@@houssamalucad753 8K is ideal for every screen size, people need to start thinking about monitors in terms of "Pixels Per Degree" and not physical pixel pitch because your field of view is the only thing that really matters. Viewing a 32" monitor from two feet away gives you 60 degrees field of view, that's only 127 Pixels Per Degree, when maximum perceivable sharpness with 20/20 vision isn't achieved until 300PPD, 8K is actually just the middle ground in terms of pixel density.
@@budthecyborg4575 and? please try a 5k studio display and tell me you can see the pixels, you can put your face really close to the monitor and still see perfect text. For fps gaming 1440p is plenty since things are moving fast and 2k is already enough to spot enemies from the other side of the map in most fps tactical shooters.
MLA on monitors can`t give high brightness because of the pixel size. Because of the MLA they where able to make a 32" Oled 4k with decent brightness. That`s why you get more than double brightness on a 55" LG Oled with MLA.
Price point is valid. Quite overpriced. Honestly the performance of the matte is perfectly fine for me. Never noticed anything too grainy and it’s understated how well this display performs in bright ambient conditions.
This review took a very long time to make.

should i return the monitor?
@@thedisplayguy should i avoid asus because of all the dramas with rma/customer service?
Where do you know from that they launch a Gorilla Glass version in August ?
Every two weeks, lg discounts their oled monitors and tv between 300 to 500 off on their websites and through best buy. If this monitor is around in June,i will be getting this monitor.
I love how minimally branded this monitor is...and wish there was a 32 inch chinless/logoless offering with a glossy coating
i'd be more concerned with how the screen looks and performs i don't even look at my monitor's casing wtf :)))
Yesterday I got my AW3225QF and I'm so happy. Here in Germany it's nearly the only 32" OLED available and also the cheapest one. I love the glossy finish and the eARC feature. The design matches the PS5 pretty well.
Thank you for your honest stuff.
Still holding out based on some reviewers saying that a flat version with a few added features is coming out later this year
@@moltenbullet OK, I didn‘t know. The slight curve doesn‘t bother me. For gaming it‘s great.
Germany? Nice
Appreciate your honesty and objectivity.
I'm really tired of matte coatings. I really wish someone would at least give the option for budget and medium range monitors as well
dough is probably the only company giving you the option but they have a bad history
That's all because some suit decides that matte sells better, ignoring that there are more matte models to begin with.
Isn't the matte screen more expensive because that have to add it in manufacturing seems like a dumb idea if most don't want it.
S90C is the best for the $$$ honestly. Easy S tier.

Which seems... unlikely.

@@urkent4463 hahaha bro I get it but you’ll never be able to future proof. And let me know when we get 480hz 4k. I’ll buy it for both of us
I purchased this display for $1100 after tax and coming from a 42” C3 I have to say the gaming performance is noticeably better. I only notice the matte coating in a negative way on my windows taskbar. Is Qd oled better, possibly, but I have no issues with this product.
These displays have been overhyped for a while now and everyone wants the first iteration to be perfect.
I have the 42c3 as well and was debating on this monitor vs the Samsung g8
In which respect would you say it is noticeably better?
You still get compression over 2.1. Adjusting shadow detail to 60 instead of 50 helps a bit.
The coating + price difference is why I decided to go with QD-OLED instead.
The coating is perfect on the LG 32GS95UE, this guy is just parroting information he doesn't understamd, unless you're pixel peeping you're not noticing the matte at all.

Just finished your review and agree with everything 100%.
can you make a comparison with an old matte display smearing actual oil on it and comparing it to a standard matte pannel? YES I'M SERIOUS
That’s actually not a bad idea. Vegetable oil has always seemed like it would have a similar look.
Can you stop breathing for around 20 minutes or so? Just curious, thx!
Honestly holding out for a 4k 240Hz + 1440p 360Hz mode/monitor
Thank you for being honest
Will there be a video about this display? ProArt Display PA34VCNV for $730
So basically this guy is telling his viewers not to buy this panel mostly because of the matte coating, all this guy does is complain about the same thing every time, which he fails to understand that some people prefer this type of display, its all according to what you are looking for. It's one thing to disagree on the coating that is used for the display, but to constantly go on a rant spree about this issue, its starting to get old now. @@tedshep Unfortunately not. I think ideally it would something like a semi-gloss W-OLED panel, but I'm not confident in it surviving burn-in, and all W-OLED panels only have a 2 year warranty. @@IAmDWill This again is not relevant.
The better monitor to buy in this price range, is the asus 32" inch 4K OLED, without the matte coating, the better color and shadows.
for a few more hundred dollars, the asus makes more sense.

I just got the lg. the matte does shimmer on solid
Colors. I’m trying Qd OLED but depending on brightness. May pass all together. Mainly use was productivity. So for games. Maybe not a huge issue. And colors def. Seem muted.
Just got mine, LOVE it.
Bro as you are always honest, let me ask you 32" 4k monitor 240hz however running 7900XT Amd playing CS2 or a 32" Oled monitor at 1440.?
The price is too high. Even if you have money to burn it doesn't make sense to spend on this displays vs other OLED options imo
oled price is expensive...i settle with a miniled which perform great in brightness and hdr until oled goes below 500 dollar
Even with the blinds closed it still gets very bright in the room.
you gotta pick your poison, have matt screen and deal with lower brightness but better reflection handling or high brightness and maybe matt or glossy coating but at the same time with qd oled if your room is bright the blacks dont seem perfectly black since the technology is like that in bright rooms
for living room prefer a C3 65", 77" or 83"
You went off the deep end after you started shitting on QD-OLED after praising it, BUT I 100% agree with you on THIS issue.
@@houssamalucad753I’ve owned both and it’s still bad.

It does look nasty in these close ups where he's blasting torch light into it. But in all footage I've seen of actual gameplay on this monitor it looked great.

I suggest watching them and other creator’s reviews and deciding for yourself what best fits your use case.
dont get an oled for work, they are terrible for that
Still going with the PG32UCDP. My room is very bright and the raised/magenta blacks with QDs will bother me
The other good thing about this monitor is the sound. But yeah these use cases are too niche for LG to be charging that much.
I can get this monitor 431 $ cheaper than the alienware 4k oled 32 here in Denmark, is that worth it? or should I pay more to get the Alienware....
Pay more for QD OLED.
Thanks for the review. The problem with the MSI is that you can't find them in stock - the channel is just dry rn if you want the 32 inch.
In the US these things can't be found - it is a wasteland for those things. The cynical side of me says - this was done on purpose since the price is very different (lower for us) than in other regions. So the supply is practically non-existent where that is the case.
At that rate CAD they are at an equivalent rate to the US regional price. I wonder why the channel is so barren here? Thanks for the update.
Are you able to compare this with Gigabyte now ? what is the verdict ?
@@Mutio86 Thank you for the insights 👍🏼
this is so far from the truth, oof.
@@TecraX2 I feel you man, it's rough being a gamer nowadays
@@GoldenSW Hopefully these prices will go down after the summer, especially in Europe!
Im happy to buy msi mpg271qrx for glossy finish and qd oled
Thanks for this review. Other reviewers mentioned the matte wasn’t an issue and I didn’t believe them. Glad you’re disappointed about the matte
sooo for 4k oled 144+ you would recommend MSI MEG 342C?
Why do you get so different results than other content creators? Did you watch any of them? Everyone said brightness was super!
It's literally not. OLED monitors in general aren't "super" in brightness.
hes right, all oleds are dim, other reviewers are bad. also lg marketed this at 1300 nits, it doesnt even get close
@@DrakonR literally, it is! Compared to other OLEDs off-crouse! Just as he does in the video! And just like the other content creators I mention in my post. Why would you think I would compare them to anything else than other OLEDs! :-)
@@chrisbenn rub two brain cells together for me. If you want to only compare to OLED, then your statement is still incorrect because OLED TVs exist which have much better brightness. You know? Like how he compares them to the TV counterparts in the video. Comparing one OLED monitor to another with marginally differences in brightness still isn't "super." They all fall flat as far as brightness is concerned so making that comparison is nonsensical.
@@DrakonR Then I have one more brain cell then you! Why are you insulting me? I am just asking and not attacking! Jerk!
In his video he has brightness results he says is not as brights and if that is compared to TVs I did not understand that! I was sure he was doing as other content creators and comparing to other monitors...
Pixels are much harder to drive brightness the smaller they are. So it's easier to drive brightness on a bigger TV with the same amount of pixels.
I just hope that future oled monitor will have a glossy coating option...
I have one i love it but wish it had glossary screen only gripe. Can you take the matte off the screen somehow?
You can technically buff out the matte finish, but it obviously voids a warranty, requires a little bit of knowledge, and there's a potential risk of damaging it.
@@domosapien I'm a automotive car painter so i have all the types of polishing paste and polishing machines. The Heat from a polisher could melt the screen if your not careful or wrong paste will scratch to deep so i understand . Where is the info on polishing the matte i can't find any info?
@@sean.d7171 this same channel has a video saying what products to use, look for "Finally - 32” 4K GLOSSY Mini LED HDR Gaming Monitor" and watch from minute 4:09 onwards, as an automotive car painter the rest should be easy for you to follow, use whatever tools you use for extremely soft plastics
Edit: i suggest practicing on a damaged display first if you have one
@@sean.d7171 Although you obviously aren't a complete novice, I'd still recommend "experimenting" on a very cheap or preferably broken matte monitor first... Even if you're successful, that still leaves the issue regarding the warranty!

No shadow detail = no reason to get this monitor. Shadow detail is basically one of the top reasons to get oled and it can't do it.
I wait till next year for version 2
Super Matt next year
@@NexGenTek 😂
I bought one, I prefer matte over glossy (untreated), but certainly the higher end TV's use glossy panels with anti-reflective coatings that work quite well, probably skipped as a cost cutting measure. Also 1080p 32" looks fine playing valorant when I have the monitor pushed all the way to the back of my desk, which I do anyway given the size.
can you do laptop screen test as will?
So it's not bright enough for impactful HDR but it's brighter than all the 3rd gen QD OLED panels..hope next year brings better QD OLED panels
Great review
@@houssamalucad753That’s not true, I’ve had them all and this matte coating is still terrible.
Integer scaling 1080p on a 4K screen should look much better than 1080p on 1440p. Hopefully it's not something wrong with the screen.
price (1400$) and matte coating completely destroy the advantage of this monitor vs QD OLEDs, i hope that ASUS or others brands will have this panel with glossy coating and with a little bit of tuning improve the 10% window white HDR Brightness
Here in belgium there are NO qd oled monitors in stock, NONE AT ALL....
This feels like a diss 😂 great video. You proved a lot of people don't know what they are talking about.
Seems like most of the other review outlets are loving this monitor. Interesting
If this monitor/panel did 1440p @360hz, this would be an end game display.
Its a bit dramatic 😂, screams pandering to children imo
great review 👍👍
Hopefully the Dough WOLED glossy unit with DP2.1 will have better launch firmware or a brightness increase.
Dont buy from Dough Tech. This is just a fake company and you will never receive your pre-order

Hold up a mirror. The market is saturated with matte displays. They have options to choose. But people who want a glossy monitor only have one choice. That's not equal by any stretch of the imagination nor is it a choice. If you legitimately want options, you would be in support of glossy.
Just saying.
9:05 We need 5K240hz OLED with 1440p480hz.
(And then the end game display is 8K240hz + 4K480hz.)
@@houssamalucad753 (Quick reminder 20/20 vision is "average", by definition half the population has sharper vision than 20/20.)
