Your prayer won't work here. These two guys are too smart to be believers, and I'd bet the same for many of those tuning in. If there is anyone here who is smug, it is the believers like yourself who know with a certainty that there is a god who pulls levers and who sends the nonbeliever to hell. Belief without any evidence is smug. Certainty in this way is smug. I used to be a believer...sort of....many years ago (I was raised Catholic). And paying attention to life chipped away at the doctrinal beliefs imposed on me. I had no choice in the matter whatsoever in whether I wanted religion. My relative certainty, such as it was, gave way to reason and doubt became non-belief. You religious types are critical of the likes of Maher and Harris because you are seemingly incapable of understanding what they are even about. So, on that note: I absolve you of your ignorance and lack of reasoning ability. It's really not your fault. I just wish there weren't so many of you in the world. There are many millions who believe nonsense. And it holds us back.

very difficult listening to his podcast. After 30 minutes of booze and weed, he refuses to let his guest complete thoughts and reverts back to his core of being the smartest person he knows.
He may be smart, but he seems to have trouble integrating information into his system. That bit about post-modernism having something to do with modernity was so cringe for anyone who has heard of Modernism. Got, it's even in that word itself - post-MODERNISM, not post-modernity. Too much weed, I guess.
@@nimbydimby I’m not even saying that he’s that smart. I am saying that he comes off smarter here, and less belligerent. Smarter than himself on his podcast. In the case of two of the most sensible political commentators who express conflicting views with your own, it might be time to carefully reconsider your own views.
A few things the two of you have in common that both of you lack a value system or one which is very fluid. And that dishonesty seems to pop up in your characters every now and again. Maher is the classic “two- faced”.
Harris literally wrote the book on establishing an evidence-based value system. He also wrote-again, literally-a book on (dis)honesty. You probably regard as "fluid" that which you don't want to agree with.
Please stop saying Bush is a "good ole Republican" or an "old school conservative". He never was. True old school conservatism is Coolidge, not Reagan/Bush.
Really depends on how a person is interpreting the quote. when a lot of pro-palestinian protesters are saying it, they mean "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free" which is generally just a call for palestinian sovereignty and a 2-state solution. thats in no way an automatic endorsement of hamas and everything they stand for just because they also use the quote to mean something completely different.
@@user-md3wm7vu1fit means, ‘from the river to the sea Palestine will be Jew free’. It’s always meant that, and it’s a Hamas chant no matter how you try to culturally appropriate it🙄
@@VampageRampage Its also been said by some israelis as well to imply the land should be palestinian free. it means whatever the person saying it intends for it to mean. if someone literally says "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free" then that it what it means and to assert otherwise is a disingenuous strawman. no one person or group has exclusive ownership over the phrase and the ability to dictate what words mean to everyone else (especially when the meaning is vague/non-specific to begin with)

In his essay “The riddle of the Gun” he says, “Unarmed people can be trained to respond intelligently to violent emergencies, and the appropriate drills seem well worth doing. (If you watch the linked video, you will see that rather than simply terrifying students, these drills can be fun and empowering.) Of course, there are no guarantees when tackling a man with a gun, and training of this kind makes sense only for students above a certain age. But such “active shooter” drills, if widely taught, would probably reduce the threat of mass killings.” From memory, in his podcast he again says teaching children to attack a gunman is a solution to school shootings. In his podcast he doesn’t state age of teaching (though I note he says “certain age” here). But let’s take him at face value and give him the benefit of the doubt and say he meant 15+/16+ age range - senior school kids. Are you telling me the answer to school violence is teaching kids to mass attack a gunman? That is mental. No serious common sense person believes running toward an active shooter is a good idea. Hitch would be able to explain the nuances between the repulsive identity politics against Trans and LGBTQ folks and the reality that having a biologically born man competing in the womens league will usually result in the trans athlete winning or overall competeing at the very top of the comp. His ability to paint a complex issue with very easy to understand logical analogies of sorts, simply made him outstanding.
I am also sure that Hitch would have been able to put the above points across without sounding like a bigot and without insulting the Trans community. I would have loved to hear him debate the matter with Dawkins, who has certainly ruffled some feathers on the topic.

There is no “middle-of-the-road” majority. Politics is not 1-dimensional.
Is everyone who votes for Trump far-right? Dana White is far-right?
Dear god. Brace yourself for the smug apocalypse coming with this one
And it holds us back.
a) I don't entirely disagree
b) They sure get a lot of things right

@@lonzo61 Im not religious. Sam and Bill are both completely delusional when it comes to Trump. Sam is worse than Bill on Covid and the garbage "vaccine."

Why does Maher come off so much smarter here than he does on his podcast? Is it just the booze and weed that trips him up there? It's night and day. I suppose he just has two different modes and he puts the articulate and salient mode to rest when he's just kicking back on Club Random.
very difficult listening to his podcast. After 30 minutes of booze and weed, he refuses to let his guest complete thoughts and reverts back to his core of being the smartest person he knows.
I'd like to think it's hanging with the likes of Sam that rubs off and makes us all smarter. Doesn't always work, but maybe...
I didn’t mean that as smart, in the general sense, although he’s far from a moron. Bill is pretty smart in some areas, for a standup, but he’s certainly not a profound intellectual.

FLATTEN ISRAEL!!!

Sam Harris…. The man who said the answer to gun violence is to teach children to run at the gun man. A true intellectual…
@@HIJK_LMNOP nope, you are wrong. But such “active shooter” drills, if widely taught, would probably reduce the threat of mass killings.”
From memory, in his podcast he again says teaching children to attack a gunman is a solution to school shootings.
