For a novice like me your videos are so useful… Seeing the key steps broken down is a great way to learn and the outcomes look fantastic, so thank you!
Another fascinating video, warts and all. On soldering, a decent iron will do. Mine is 25W and works well for most jobs, even 7mm etched brass kits. Yes, flux is essential. Electrical solder usually comes cored with Rosin but if yours is uncored you can get Rosin separately, this is my preferred method. Here's a tip, get some brass wool and dip the iron tip in it frequently. Your tip needs to be kept shiny and clean. If the tip is black, it is done. Great piece on painting ModelU figures. I didn't realize there was a section on painting in the catalog. My results are OK and I've used black wash to finish. The idea of using Titanium Buff struck a chord and I have a tube on order already. I will mention that on my current layout, I used Woodland Scenics foam roadbed. It comes in bevelled strips and sheets. I also use Ayleen's Tacky Glue (which I believe to be equivalent to WS Scenic Glue) to fix the foam to the board and the track to the foam. Looking forward top the next installment. John
Hi Andy, it’s all coming on rather nicely and some good solutions in the end to get the track joining together between boards. It was lovely to see the South Devon Railway in all it’s glory, looking forward to the next episode, cheers for now, John
Thanks very much John. Your boat scene is looking great - I picked up some of those magnifying glasses you were using as my eyesight isn't what it was!
I had a smile as soon as I saw the notification and it just grew bigger as I watched. The river scene is looking great and I had to laugh when I saw you included the gnome garden. Thanks for the mention. I’m looking forward to seeing the station and signal box builds.
Hi Andy great video once again. We all have problems and it's how we get around them. I like the look of the dcc concepts method that you used. I think we all need an Andy Baumback model on our railways 😂. The scenics look top notch as always. I was down in your neck of the woods a few weeks ago. Next time I'll visit the south Devon railway looks very scenic atb Andy
I have really enjoyed these videos and the quality modelling that you show. Look forward to the next one whenever that is; family, work and being outside are important.Thank you
Wow seems like a tiny word so i go with amazing instead. Enjoy your videos alot because they are stressless. Looking forward to part 5. Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks Craig. They are fantastic figures - I have painted the versions of you, Martyn and Sam but they need a bit more work before they go on the layout. I think the bright pink WWS t-shirts might be changed for a different colour!
I saw the new video 1st moment I woke up and jumped up for my coffee and here I am!!!! I ❤the topics in this one. For such a large project you've committed too, everything seems to be going very very well! I'm just as commented and only hope you stay pleased with the whole project and YT parts of this. Please don't get burned out and allow obligation to sink in. You create and share as you wish...its part of whats so appealing to most viewers. Seriously, don't let Likes, comments & all other YT issues change what , how or WHEN you post! Thx you again for sharing!
The Master of Scenic yet again Andy. But the way which you present your videos in such a humble yet captivating manner is probably a huge reason why your channel has deservedly done so well. You are & always will be our number 1 diorama modeller. We've learnt so much yet again from you, just in time for your greatest rival to hopefully enter a certain competition & actually finish what she starts ;) Best wishes to you mate, Phil & Josie
Miniature painter here - For your mini you, I'd strongly suggest another round of highlights on the flesh, mainly the brow, nose and chin and then an ultra matt varnish, as that will bring the scheme together more, and not make the hoodie highlights look as stark. Excellent project, I'm really enjoying it
Hi Paul, thanks very much for the tip. I have just picked up some magnifying glasses to make life a little easier and will definitely do as you suggest.
Fabulous skills and a lovely video. Brown tiling grout, what a great idea for bulking up expensive media. Look forward to the next installment, must try to attend that beer festival in August, keep up the good work from a fellow Totnesian..
Hi Andy, great progress! I cannot remember the name of it but Charlie at Chadwick (and myself now) uses solder with the flux already mixed in. I think it’s called 70/30. I visited SDR for the first time last month. What a fantastic location to have on your doorstep.
Another wonderful film loved it from start to finish, I was getting a bit worried as it had been such a long time since your last video. For a good electrical connection, you should always use flux even if you get the solder to stick you could end up with a dry joint. I loved the finished ModelU figure I have a few of these to do so seeing how you approached this was very interesting. By the way, your landscaping skills are truly epic. Keep this up.
Hi Andy. I've been pretty much spoilt to be able to watch these 4 episodes over the course of just a few evenings. Unfortunately, I'm now going to have to wait a while until Episode 5 arrives! Keep up the great work AND your very explanatory descriptions of each of the MANY and varied tasks. I particularly liked the ModelU - very realistic - almost like "Honey, I shrunk the kids!" Cheers from down under, Mark.
Thanks Mark! The Modelu figures are fantastic and the detail is amazing. The next Episode is a short one but will be out at 5pm tomorrow (British time).
@@DartsideScenics I've just bought a 3D printer and I must say I'm enjoying it, although I've printed off a load of crap at the moment. I need to try and learn CAD..
Great stuff. Though I think some of the exhibition layouts you showed could benefit from getting some inspiration from you, rather than the other way round! Glad you found a workable solution to the board ends. My one suggestion would be to be able to fix some protection to the rail ends when the sections are separated: it's very easy to snag them with clothes or otherwise twang them - think of something like a blanking plate for the ends.
I must be the only person who enjoys ballasting then, especially when there are no points ! 😂 Something i found worked well to dirty the ballast was once it was down, i mixed up some black weathering powder and cheap black acrylic with iso and mixed it to a really thin colour, then literally grabbed a brush and went around the track. random pigments get caught up naturally and you get a general weathering down of the stone. The iso doesnt hang around long enough to cause any issue on glue etc and a track cleaner gets it shiny again. Careful when ballasting the points... Absolute nightmare if you rush 😂 Can someone fill me in with why the screws are used on the track joins??
Thanks for the ballasting tip. I think that will be good way for me to go so will pick up some iso as I don't have any at the moment. Sorry, I didn't explain the brass screw part very well as I was fed up at that point! It's just to have something solid to solder the rails to to avoid it moving if it gets knocked during transit.
Great update, I thought you had disappeared :O But I'm glad you're back, interesting way to join the tracks etc, I take it you're going to hide the welds etc on the joins?
Just found your channel today. Looks like you're building something similar to me (www.youtube.com/@FrontingtonandBackwoodsRailway), though perhaps with slightly more skill and budget! I too tried soldering my track to screw heads, and also ran into the issue of my screws not being brass. I ended up just gluing the track firmly either side of the join, and that's worked fine so far. You've done well with those scenics though, I'll be taking some inspiration from that!
good work thanks lee
Thanks very much Lee

Great work though Andy, very talented.
I thought of you when I saw someone had posted a video of the 1940's weekend at the SDR with 1369 looking splendid.
Thanks Robin. I popped over briefly late this afternoon but didn't have enough time to enjoy the event (I just needed supplies from the shop!!)
Lots of thought and effort as usual, Andy. Well done.
Thank you 😊
This was a great video 🥳
Helpful and good to see others doing sections aligning in curves
Thanks Thomas! It was a bit of a pain but I got there in the end

Just tuned in after a lengthy break to see what you've been up to!. Lovely to see a modular layout underway. Certainly looking good. 👌
Great to have you back Tim! 👍🏻
Great video Andy, I can relate to the trials and tribulations you went through doing the wiring.

Good to see you back but... you have pasted the same link to Rails and Ales and Model 3D. Carry on enjoying the summer.
Thank you for letting me know. It also made me realise I hadn't finished the time stamps so I'm pleased you made me aware of it!
Once again, some amazing skills, loving this series. I noticed that Creality also have a 3D scanner for home use but not sure how good it is.
