Great project. I’ve been collecting woodworking projects on UA-cam for months and looking for the perfect one to get me off the couch, this was it! It was easy to build and drove me to buy a couple of tools that I wanted, Kreg jig , 90 degree adapter and a long clamp. Now onto stain, planter, hardware and stencils. Hey everyone, do this project, it’s fun and easy once you get started.
Hey Ronnie!… Great video. Thank you for sharing. A little tip for you… Next time you’re stenciling, if you get bleedthrough. A sharp utility blade or a razor blade can be used as a mini scraper. It’s fine enough so you can do detailed work and it will take it right off.
Thanks Ronnie, this is my next project for my wife and daughters. I just got through with a porch swing bed for our youngest daughter for her birthday, that was a week Great idea, thanks
The planter is finished, we made extra sign boards for a few holidays or occasions. The planter came out great thanks to the great plans and video. We gave it to my sister in law as a gift and she got all watery eyed. I wish I could post a photo of the finished stand. Thanks Ronnie for the great plan, video, and motivation.
I have used a light coat of clear, like what you used on the entire project, over the stencil first and then the color. The clear will blead through but you wont see it and it will seal the stencil and help the bleading of the color coat. Worth a try.
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, my neighbors are very impressed with this. It’s an easy build. I am working on plans and will pin a post with a link to my Etsy shop when they are available. Thanks for stopping by!
I built a different version of this in the past for a client. I used washers and round earth magnets to hold the interchangablw signs in. I like the your channel design better. This is a very good design and build. Thanks!
I love all your videos! I just started messing with wood and creating new projects (for the wife mainly). Can you please do a tutorial how you create the 45 degree beveled edges?
It would be fun to use this for seasonal wreaths as well- top boards such as Merry Christmas, Hello Spring, Happy Fall, etc could be sold separately or as a set- very nice design 👍
Hola! 🖐This is the very first video of yours that I watch. Really, really nice project. This one will definitely be on the "To Build List". Your video is equally good, really good rhythm and you explain everything really well. Take care and have a good one, Adios!👊
Hi Ronnie, quick question. Rather than muck about with stringers at the base , why not simply use what's left of the 2x6x8 and secure that as you would the first lair of feet and remove them instead. This would also resolve the issue of fastening piece onto the stringers to tidy it up.
Wow great video i never did pocket holes oh boy looks hard to me and the feet cuts , ive never done angle cuts either lmao but i am sure going to try this!
Hi Ronnie, in this plant stand video I see a small bench in the background, do you have a video on it? To me it looks like a nice complimentary piece to the plant stand. Thanks.
@@RonniesWorkshop can I ask what the height is on the bench I am referring to and also do you trim the rounded edges from your lumber before building or just go with it? Thanks.
Hi i love your work man! Definitely going to try and make this for my mums house. Just wondering...(without trying to sound stupid) is that pine wood you are using or something similar? Thanks man
Thanks Larry! And a special thank you to you. I appreciate your long term, consistent encouraging comments. They help keep me movitvated to keep going.
Hey Ronnie! Love all of your stuff. You have great vision. The one question I have is how did you lock in the bottom 1x6 just above the stretchers? Brad nails? Keep the videos coming. Nice work!
Did you stencil after staining and sealing? I have the stand built an now I just need to stain, stencil, and seal. Another stand will probably be in the works soon.
@@RonniesWorkshop Thanks Ronnie, I was considering an outdoor stain and sealer combo but not sure if the stencil paint would adhere to the sealed wood. I will follow your lead. Did you use latex or oil based paint. This stand will be a gift and I want to make it right. First I need to hide my mistakes. DUH.
New to woodworking and building this for a friend. Can you tell me the cheapest sealer I can use for this? Its going on a roofed deck and likely wont get super wet. Seeme like exterior sealer is expensive.
We haven’t had any issues with wind. You could make the feet longer if it’s an issue in your area. You could even drill a hole through them and secure with rebar into the ground? Just thinking out loud.
I love the big gap you can see through from the top of the sign to the top of the piece, its especially fun trying to fix that after its put together and holes are drilled
Not sure what you're refering to here. From the top of the sliding sign to the top cap of the stand? The rail that is attached to the underside of the top board prevents seeing through that gap. If that's what you're talking about.
Just accept that as a learning experience. Figure out what you may not have done the best and tackle it again. Eventually it will happen. We all go through the learning period.
Do you have a video or instructions somewhere on making the fancy looking cuts for the ends? The cut is explained at 5:15 minutes in this video but I would like to see it done. Does this particular cut have a name? Thank you.
It's a beveled edge. How I do it is place the side of the board I want the angled cut on against the saw fence. I move the saw arm to 45 degrees, line up the blade so it will only cut the corner off, in this case I left 1/2" straight. Flip the board over so the same side is against the fence and do the other end. I do this a lot with slats that I use on bench or table shelves too. Hope that helps.
@RonniesWorkshop Thank you. I had some white Rustolium paint. It seemed to bleed a lot. My wife cleaned it up. Bought the plans on Etsy. One thing I would like to see is a mark on your lumber pieces to show what parts are cut from which board. I ended up using an board because I didn't think my cut out before I started. The sign is coming together. I'll post pictures on Etsy.
I thought I'd try this but the 2x4 in the UK must be different because the top bottom leg assembly piece needed to be 8" point to point for the 45 angle to equal the bottom 11 1/2" piece. Happy i found your channel though, very informative.

Thanks for the post! Great job taking action!
Nice! If you spray the sign with a matte finish of any type then do your stencil it will eliminate the bleed.
I like the SLIDE function, easy to change the text matching the "party/holiday" :)

This is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLANT STAND! Especially the night shot! WOW! Definitely will have to set aside time to try and build this! Thank you!!!

Looks great! I did one similar to this but painted one of the inserts with chalkboard paint so the could write their own sayings
Cool idea!
That’s nice. Has the pop effect.
Simply beautiful💕
Thanks!
Looks great… thanks Ronnie
I really appreciate your practical approach to your work great job
Thanks!
Thanks for the content. Beautiful piece! Going to build my wife one for our anniversary next month.
Thanks! She'll love it!
I like it 👌 Very clever to design it to hold multiple sign possibilities.

Great job, great idea.
Nice job explaining. And thanks for the plans and cut list

Great job and project thx for sharing enjoyed it
Absolutely amazing , brilliant job 🤩🤩
Thank you very much!
Great video, I wish that I had a bigger woodshop to work in. I do a lot of crafts. Love it!
made something similar and had to anchor the base. The wind blew it over. Nice project.
Beautifully made. Thanks for the details I have to try to make one even though I'm just a beginner and learning how to do stuff do things
Go for it!

Great info and tips.. You definitely brought another idea of doing them than I do. I'm definitely going to do the feet of mine like yours on a few

I was going for a unique design. There are plenty of these stands that have that board as the base. I wanted a different look.
Great build and easy to follow. Love it. #beltloopsmatter
❤️ Love ❤️ it!!

You can do it!
Hi Ronnie, in this plant stand video I see a small bench in the background, do you have a video on it? To me it looks like a nice complimentary piece to the plant stand. Thanks.
I don't but that's a good idea. It is a smaller version of the bench it did in this video ua-cam.com/video/nBmSAqSkN34/v-deo.html
@@RonniesWorkshop can I ask what the height is on the bench I am referring to and also do you trim the rounded edges from your lumber before building or just go with it? Thanks.
28" long, 13" deep, 20" high. I've done both ways with the edges.
@@RonniesWorkshop Thank you, keep building 👷♂️
Hi i love your work man! Definitely going to try and make this for my mums house. Just wondering...(without trying to sound stupid) is that pine wood you are using or something similar? Thanks man
I think she'll love it! I used fir for the main stand, a cedar board for the bottom shelf, and Pine Sign boards. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate it 😊
Congrats on over 30000 subscribers
Thanks Larry! And a special thank you to you. I appreciate your long term, consistent encouraging comments. They help keep me movitvated to keep going.
Keep building and I will keep watching and building and believing in you God Bless
Hi Ronnie, thank you so much for sharing. What colour stain did you use? I really like the colour. Thanks
Minwax Jacobean, I believe. Could be Dark Walnut, it's be a while. They are very similar in color.
Looks great , if you were selling these how much would you ask?
Instead of welcome, now a days its go away 😂😂
Hey Ronnie! Love all of your stuff. You have great vision. The one question I have is how did you lock in the bottom 1x6 just above the stretchers? Brad nails? Keep the videos coming. Nice work!
Yes, brad nails... I believe 1 1/2". Thanks for stopping by!
Beautiful stand. I can't wait to start one for myself. What size pocket hole screws did you use?
Thanks! 2-1/2" Pocket hole screws.
Thank you!
Did you stencil after staining and sealing? I have the stand built an now I just need to stain, stencil, and seal. Another stand will probably be in the works soon.
I stained, stenciled, and then sealed. Not sure if that's the proper way to go, but it's holding up so far.
@@RonniesWorkshop Thanks Ronnie, I was considering an outdoor stain and sealer combo but not sure if the stencil paint would adhere to the sealed wood. I will follow your lead. @@brianmurphy2932 I used latex

Minwax Dark Walnut. Thanks for watching!
New to woodworking and building this for a friend. Can you tell me the cheapest sealer I can use for this? Its going on a roofed deck and likely wont get super wet. Seeme like exterior sealer is expensive.
I don't have a recommendation for a cheap sealer.
Great job. I was just wondering if that pressure treated wood or?
Not pressure treated. Stained and protected with exterior poly.
Ok, great job looks good
Like the videos
Great welcome sign. What would this sell for ?
Hi Ronnie. I saved this video to build in the future. Do you have a material list? I was trying to get an idea of the cost for the lumber.
3- 8ft 2x4's, 1- 8ft 2x6, 1- 8ft 1x8
@RonniesWorkshop Is the 1x8x8 used for the Welcome sign itself. The cheapest board I can find is pressure treated. Is rather use untreated but.....
@@mattpisani6933 Yes, I use the 1x8x8 for the sign boards and slats
HI, do you have any problem with stability when it is windy? I was wondering if the feel needed to be a little longer. Thoughts? Thanks!
We haven’t had any issues with wind. You could make the feet longer if it’s an issue in your area. You could even drill a hole through them and secure with rebar into the ground? Just thinking out loud.
Thanks for the quick reply. I really like how this looks!@@RonniesWorkshop
Wondering what these sell for?
How you get those nice eges on the 2x4s and small er pieces?
I love the big gap you can see through from the top of the sign to the top of the piece, its especially fun trying to fix that after its put together and holes are drilled

Stay in your lane Buttercup
Stupid question, how did you cut the bevels on your feet? I’m a rookie!
No such thing as a stupid question. I used my miter saw to cut them.
Thanks, I was building today and couldn’t get it exactly right. I used the miter saw but didn’t turn out so good
Just accept that as a learning experience. Figure out what you may not have done the best and tackle it again. Eventually it will happen. We all go through the learning period.
How you get edges rounded off on alot of the peices?
I'll use a round over bit in my palm router, or sometimes sand witrh palm sander.
What stain colors did you use?
Do you have a video or instructions somewhere on making the fancy looking cuts for the ends? The cut is explained at 5:15 minutes in this video but I would like to see it done. Does this particular cut have a name? Thank you.

Could you make a short showing this? I don't really understand. I'm teaching myself woodworking. I need to see it. If possible
Can you tell me what stain you used on the stand.
I believe I used Jacobean by Minwax
Did you use pressure treated wood??
Not on this. I sealed it with an outdoor sealant.
What color stain is this i like the color alot ?
I believe Minwax Jacobean on that one. That or Minwax Dark Walnut. They are very similar in color.
What paint did you use for the stencils? I think my paint is too thin.
I believe it was some left over Sherwin Williams outdoor paint I had.
I believe page 3 has a cutlist. What to cut with 2x4 #1, and then 2x4 #2, so on. Can't wait to see the pics!
What size hooks did you use for the lanterns?
I used the 8"
Thank you!
I thought I'd try this but the 2x4 in the UK must be different because the top bottom leg assembly piece needed to be 8" point to point for the 45 angle to equal the bottom 11 1/2" piece.

Interesting about the 2x4. Well, easy adjustment to get the job done. Thanks for watching!
where did you get the lamps?
Links to what I used are in the description.
What color is the stain you used?
My bad ... I read further down and saw where you mentioned Miniwax Dark Walnut ... beautiful project Ronnie.
Thanks for watching!
Are from North Attleboro MA?
Did you use a torch to burn the wood. If so then why not mention it.
I did not.
I got dizzy watching this.
How many pieces for wood do you need ?
Great project!
