This is a great video. Thank you. One thing you can remember is that power doesn’t come from those cables. The power comes from the battery. So once they are disconnected it doesn’t matter if they touch metal, nothing will happen👌🏻
I get it, believe me, but the number one thing I feel very sketchy about is a car battery. It’s just one of those things...if I can take extreme caution, in my mind, I’ll be okay lol
Thanks for the install video! I've watched a couple others and just to be sure I gave yours a go, glad I did ! Because you were the first to mention disconnecting the battery. Subscribed and looking forward to see your veedub r build. Btw great video kept it interesting and easy to follow
Golf R is by far the best car I’ve ever owned but I had to sell it because the manual transmission wasn’t fitting enough for my family. Wanted to get the DSG but the difference in trade and sale price was too big. My goal is to get another one soon. Just have to save a little more $$. I’m glad you enjoyed the VID and I truly appreciate the feedback.
The whole reason I made it. I felt like the other videos out there just didn’t help enough. This could have been better if I was at work and had the lift but I hope it helped you!
I purchased a used JB4 for my 2018 Audi RS3. When I received the item I noticed that there were 4 junctions instead of 3. Is this normal? How do I know if it is made for RS3?
Never. I never had an issue with it. Check your plugs, make sure they’re clipped in. If you connected AFR, make sure that’s properly done as well. Make sure your OBD is connected properly.
Thanks for posting the video. Really helped with installing mine. Quick question. You mentioned not to remove the grommet. I poked a hole through it and while I was trying to push the wire through I ended up pushing too hard and pushing the entire grommet pst the firewall. Any tips on getting it back in place?
That’s the mistake I made on the first golf I had and it created a lot of condensation issues in the car. I wasn’t able to get it back in. I want to recommend go to the dealer but that also seems like a pain.
Just because you go higher in a map doesn’t mean you get better performance. They all serve different purposes. Map 1 is a nice little boost over stock. Map 2 is even more aggressive than that. Map 4 depending on your firmware version, I believe, is a Valet map that tunes down the power considerably. Map 6 is a custom tune. Usually you would have George configure that for you after you send him some logs. Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. If you search VWvortex forums there’s a description on all of it. I never set a custom log. Map 2 was already too hard on my clutch lol
I'm wondering about the OBD2 part. It seems like it would be difficult to remove it and if I ever took the car back for coverage under warranty I wouldn't want them to see anything (I just bought an extended bumper to bumper warranty and if I ever have to use it I don't any issues). If I don't bother to add the OBD2 connection I just don't get the ability to read the codes... is that right? Basically in the end I want the easiest to remove solution if I ever have to take the car back in under warranty.
You just wouldn’t be able to read the codes is all from my understanding, but I could be wrong. I was no longer covered under warranty so it wasn’t a concern of mine. They have PDF instructions online. It’ll explain everything to you and I believe the OBD2 info is there.
@@OCDsucks At this point I went back to the dealer and had the extended warranty cancelled. My car is a 2019 and the OEM warranty isn't in effect much longer and after thinking about it I think the extended warranty is a waste of money - it was like an extra $7600 on my loan! Bad part is my payment doesn't change... it just pays the loan off faster. I could've had a $65 per month cheaper payment had I not let them talk me into that. :-(
I would remove it before having any VW/Audi dealership look at the car. It doesn’t leave behind a software trace of a tune or a TD1. Nonetheless it is a very prominent box sitting in your engine bay, bypassing the factory cables, I would remove it before a dealership looks at your car.
PhiLLitUp 93 thanks, i just purchased a mk7 Gli and I came across your video. i come from stage 2+ mk5 so having a stock car is not “fun” lol. Good video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Chris O'Regan before you splice the wire, you should pull the gray sleeve to the left to expose a little more of it down the line. You should splice it in a way that when you remove it, you can pull the gray sleeve back into factory position so that it covers the splice.
You can pull codes using the JB4 app if you purchased the Bluetooth dongle. Do you absolutely NEED to plug into the OBD2 port? I believe you do but don’t quote me on that. I’m not sure how electrical power is delivered to the JB4 box though.
So I'm thinking of getting a jb4 I have an intake and a cat back exhaust, what map would you recommend running 1 or 2 (GTI 2.0L Tsi MK7) stock downpipe too
Surprised you didn’t go for the down pipe as well. I never track my car. Map 2 alone did wonders for power. You’re not going to need any more than what Map2 offers unless you’re going to be going to a track. Then get a custom Map6 tune and if you’re going to be messing with E85, you’re definitely going to have to reach out to George @ burgertuning. Apologies for the late response, just got back to being active on the channel.
It might not flag the ECU with a TD1 but if you blow a motor you can be sure that they're checking for signs of the posi tap and/or the grommet puncture. I'm still going with a JB4 on my MK7.5 GTI but I'm not expecting to defeat VWoA if any warranty issues arise with the drivetrain. Nice video by the way, I'll be using it to install my JB4.

great video!! Thanks a lot for that and the recommendations. Poka-yoke that the word that maybe you trying to use for the connectors
How do you stack the the jb4 on and tune and does it cost extra ?
Your name is genius, love it.
Ish Brown thanks! Didn’t take too long to come up with it considering jokes using my first name lol
Love the content. Thanks for sharing in MQB group
Absolutely! WhIch group was it? I posed from a couple
PhiLLitUp 93 it was in the MK7 golf R-GTI mqb
Thanks, good vid to watch (amongst others as well). On a side note, you weren't being facetious - you were being sarcastic.
nice and detailed video
Thank you!

It may be the wrong one but I’m not sure. The motor is a 5 cylinder so I’m sure it takes a different Jb4 model.
Why did you choose JB4 over any other tune? This seems more intrusive than a Cobb access port and doesn’t have the same results
It doesn’t flash the ECU and doesn’t void your warranty
Hi have you ever experienced an "Error: Drive System. Please visit workshop" message before after installation?
Never. I never had an issue with it. Check your plugs, make sure they’re clipped in. If you connected AFR, make sure that’s properly done as well. Make sure your OBD is connected properly.
Looking into buying a JB4, thanks for the great info. Have you had any issues with warranty work?
I didn’t need any warranty work in the time I had the JB4. I would remove it though before bringing it into the shop.

@@OCDsucks thanks for the reply. I think I'll stop by the local indie shop and see if they think they can do something about it
I am having the issue of it not even connecting to the app at all
How are you trying to connect to it? Do not go to the Bluetooth setting in your phone. It won’t work that way. It has to be through the JB4 app itself
i really just want a better throttle response would this help for that ?
100%
whats the highest map you can go with a stock gti mk7

Hi
I have a 2017 Audi TT do you think will work for me?
I’m not entirely sure. Would have to email George at burgertuning

@@80s_Gamr damn that is an expensive warranty! just got warranty on my 2018 with 15k miles and bumper to bumper until 90K or 2028 was 3k usd
Do I have to leave it connected to the OBD all the time? Asking this because I have a boost gauge that reads data off the OBD too.
I believe the connection OBD is to simply run codes but I’m honestly not 100% sure
@@OCDsucks Just confirmed, it has to be connected all the time. Otherwise it wont work properly.
can i choose between maps like in the f30 bmw without the app?
Yes, with a data cable and a computer but I strongly recommend the Bluetooth adapter. It’s much faster and far more convenient.
How come I have a different screen when I open my jb4 app?
Could just be the updated interface. Another reason could be the settings. You can change the gauge types and styles in the app too.
Do all maps come pre set?
Yes all maps come preset. If you want dialing in, definitely contact George at BMS
This doesn’t void your warranty right ?

It’s amazing what simple tunes can do. And they’re not too expensive for the VW lineup
When you send the car in for services, do you place any tape over red cable where it’s spliced through?
Chris O'Regan before you splice the wire, you should pull the gray sleeve to the left to expose a little more of it down the line. You should splice it in a way that when you remove it, you can pull the gray sleeve back into factory position so that it covers the splice.

What exactly is map 2?
It’s a more aggressive map. Usually a few more PSI over boost than Map 1. I believe there are 8 total maps.

It’s been such a long time I don’t even remember what the posi-tap is for. I don’t believe it’s even necessary. Glad you enjoyed the video!
What’s your IG want to hit you on iG and pick your brain on a couple things , thanks 🙏🏽

can this be added to a 2017 Passat R line with the 1.8t?
Yes!
