- Today we're trying one of my favourite childhood foods, Phnom Penh-style dry noodles at Battambang Cambodian Restaurant. There are two restaurants of the same name on opposite sides of Cabramatta station, run by a brother and sister duo. You won't find better Khmer cuisine anywhere in Sydney!

@@SydneyFoodBoy will do. Thanks again
Thanks for watching 😁
good video mate
Thanks bro!
This was a great vid man. There are a couple of other Cambodian joints in Sydney that serve Phnom Penh noodles! Happy Chef is a very well known restaurant franchise more famous for it’s laksa that started out in Chinatown but have grown to include branches in Flemington and Newtown. Sadly the Newtown one got damaged in a fire last year, and apparently the owners (a Chinese-Cambodian family) decided not to reopen. But it was a beloved Newtown favourite and all the locals keep asking for it to be reopened. However, the original Happy Chef in Chinatown (inside and upstairs the Dixon Street food court) that had been there since the 80s is still open, as is there offshoot in Market City shopping centre. A third Happy Chef also operates in the Hunter Connection food court near Wynyard station, but I believe this one was sold to new owners. However Phnom Penh noodles are still there and No.1 on the menu!
I love me some kuyteav Phnom Penh! I think the best Phnom Penh noodles are either the Flemington Happy Chef, the sister Battambang restaurant that you visited in Cabramatta, or another one in Cabramatta that on Park Road that I can’t remember it’s name.
Asher mate, appreciate you for watching! I've known about Happy Chef for the longest time and have been meaning to make my way up to try their laksa and offal noodles for ages. Had no idea the owners were of Cambo Chinese heritage though - that's dope!
You might be talking about Dong Son on Park Rd, next to the small warehouse shop. Ring a bell?
Thanks for replying! I like Dong Son but the one I like better is closer to Freedom Plaza, about two shops down. They have their menu in photographs on their front window, so check them out next time! Their bowl of noodles is awesome but the broth is not as amazing as Battambang’s. They also give a satay sauce as a dipping sauce with the Phnom Penh noodles, which I find very nice and contrasting! There is also a Phnom Penh restaurant in the arcade where Battambang II used to be, and a new restaurant called Siem Reap which is behind the BKK centre. Last but not least is a stall in a downstairs Dixon Street food court in Chinatown called Phnom Penh Teochew House. They’re also quite legendary!
Awesome found here too
What did you eat!
I had Cambodian Noodle: Num Banh Chok on the weekend it was beautiful
Imma go tomoz!!!
Yessirrrr
Best video!
Thank you my friend! Khmer pride!
This type of noodle in Cambodia we call it Kuy Kieu, very popular breakfast dish in Cambodia.
Where are the best places to find kuy kieu in Cambodia? Which city in Cambodia are you from? 🙂
@@SydneyFoodBoy I was born and raised in Phnom Penh. Currently living in Long Beach, CA, I haven't been to Cambodia for almost ten years so I don't know. As I remembered the street foods are the best. Try to watch Strictly Dumbling videos about Cambodia food, he just went to Phnom Penh. ua-cam.com/video/Pv6G0vv8Uks/v-deo.html
Offal is a Must in Khmer Noodles. Wish we had more authentic Khmer here in Adelaide. I waiting 😥 to return to safe Phnom Penh.
Come to Sydney instead some time P 😜
Stumbled on your channel but glad I did. Guess what I’m doing when restrictions lift 😃..
In answer to the sprouts and offal question, love it. Love tripe, pigs blood, heart, gizzards, everything. My partner thinks I’m nuts, but I just say more for me!
Sometimes I wish my partner didn't like it too so I can eat more of it 😜 lucky you Ben!
@@SydneyFoodBoy haha I’m half Asian and she’s not, so for me it kind of comes with the territory
😂😂 sounds about right
i live in city but every time go to Cab I always visit Battambang 1 for buy take away lo lac beef and bones soup ..😊
I love pig offal! Omg, Malaysian Chinese pork noodles with the works is my fav, but this looks soooooo good too!
Know Anywhere to get Malaysian Chinese style noodles in Sydney? I'm there 😜
Interesting that I'm Cambodian/Chinese/Vietnamese too. My mom is half Chinese and Vietnamese and Dad is Cambodian. 1st gen in USA. Parents came here around 1981 after the war.
I hear there's a lot like us in Cali and Texas! Is that where you're from??
@@SydneyFoodBoy Yes Cali. Never been to Australia but I've always wanted to visit. I'm told the exchange rate is terrible and everything is expensive over there.
Im from melb everytime I go Sydney. My favourite joint is Dong Son I reckon that place has the best p.p noodles.
Thing I miss abt cabra your fd shop are open at 5am . Keep it up
I like Dong Son too! I like their little signature peanut satay sauce they give, it's really tasty. I also like the pork mince patty they give with their noodles! Maybe I'll take a trip there soon 😜 thanks for watching Meng!
Tru do it man n vlog that guy when he orders loud ass hehe , that peanut sauce damn ! And there chinese doughies .this joint ancient to cabra. Lol
@@AppleCat1352 uncle that owns the shop is the most passionate 😂
@@SydneyFoodBoy wat its your uncle?
@@AppleCat1352 no! I just call him Uncle when I see him. He's pretty well known in the Cabra community though
Great video mate, unfortunately I'm not a fan of offal. I will have to try and get used to offal so I can enjoy these dishes.
There's some dishes on the menu without offal! But offal is a key part in a lot of Khmer dishes
soooooooooooooooooooooooo yummmyyyyyyyyyy
😁😁
I need to go to Australia 🇦🇺. To the questions yes and yes
Yessssss!

YESSS BATTAMBANG MY FAVOURITE CAMBO PLACE, THE CRISPY PORK INTESTINES IS THE BEST 🤤🤤 YES LOVE BEAN SPROUT AND OFFAL!! THIS PLACE HONESTLY HAS THE BEST NOODLES, THIS IS GETTING ME HUNGRY 😋
If I had a friend, I would've gone ham on the pork intestines and the crispy chicken too HAHA

Looks yummy! Personally, I like bean sprouts. Being Vietnamese, we have it in our beef pho and banh xeo. Yum yum! A must have :) X
I think bean sprouts go GREAT in banh xeo, love the texture and crunch it gives! And pho too of course!
It’s good flavor that I like to eat ..😃😃from cambodia
Absolutely!! I remember how cheap it was to buy in Cambodia, but the bowls were smaller

That dish is a cambo version of a classic teochew noodle
I'm a Cambodian but i live in Auckland NZ idk why. I know how to speak khmer but chicken with rice is the best 😋
Khmer pride! Are there a lot of Cambodians in NZ?
@@SydneyFoodBoy Yes

Hate beansprouts, Love Offal, fire vid 🔥🔥🔥
#OFFALGANG Appreciate it bro 😁😁
What is it that y’all hating on me? ~Sprout, Bean
😂
I've eaten beef heart at a Peruvian restaurant. That counts as offal.
I love to eat all kind of offal
Hi Rosie!! Which offal is your favourite? I'd love to try offal cooked in a non-Asian cuisine
Love your slurping! Looks delish but too lazy to drive that far😂 Offal:Yes I'm asian and love all the weird animal bits. Bean sprouts: yes, my mum used to make us korean side dishes from it.
Thanks for watching Sylvia!!
I live in Cali and from my experience Vietnamese noodles broth are more plain than Cambodian. This is not a negative thing it's more preference. Cambodian Noodles you can eat without adding additional Siracha or Hoi Sing sauce. Vietnamese you kinda have to add Siracha/Hoi Sing to your liking.
I'd love to try the Khmer restaurants up in Cali. Heard they're amazing. On the flip side, definitely come try the Viet restaurants in Sydney one day. My relatives from Cali said they're heaps better. Probably since we get a lot of new Vietnamese migrants because of the proximity of the countries
Bun bo hue and bun rieu are definitely not plain. Quite a rich and complex broth from those two. I agree that pho is a bit less rich in flavor than katiev phnom penh though. Then again, katiev phnom penh was invented by a chinese-vietnamese who came to settle in phnom penh anyhow.
Cabra is the best
In the west !!
Where would you recommend where to stay for the first time in Cabramatta?
Not too sure actually! I'm sure there's some nice accommodations around Liverpool which isn't too far away
The Warwick Hotel, Warwick Farm or Ibis in Lansvale... Close to Cabramatta cbd
@@tekmaneighteen thanks🙏
@@SydneyFoodBoy thanks 🙏
Brother next time add a fried egg on it 👌
And the pickled chillis
On the noodles? Haven't seen anyone do that on Phnom Penh Noodles before but I'll try! 😏

When it comes to chopsticks, I work smarter not harder 😉
You should get some discount. The bowl doesn’t need washing. 😂 Also, there’s no accident that the meats are left behind. Like myself, we leave the best for last. 🙏🙏 Good day mate!
