Chasing 5 McLaren P1s in My Dream Classic Car! | Mercedes 300SL Roadster Test Drive

- It's not every day you find a convoy of five McLaren P1s, let alone when you're driving the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster! It is without doubt my dream classic car, so what an amazing experience to drive this legendary car for car spotting at Pebble Beach!
I have once previously enjoyed a very short drive in a 300SL Roadster, however spent a significant amount of time in the 300SL Gullwing and there are numerous differences between the two. This particular 1957 Roadster comes from the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre in Irvine, CA and happens to currently be for sale, having been a one owner car from new, retaining the original blue leather interior on silver paintwork and featuring the 240hp engine.
As we set off from the Mercedes base at Pebble Beach, the immediate destination is to head towards the famous 17 Mile Drive for a car spotting run where almost instantly things get pretty busy. From an Aventador SVJ right out the locks, to a 458 Speciale moments later, and then both a Mercedes SLR McLaren by FAB Design and another Aventador shortly after. From there the fun only gets better seeing the Bussink Speed Legend, a convoy of an Aston Martin DBS, Ferrari 812 Superfast and F12 Berlinetta to even another SLR. To top it off, even a McLaren Senna GTR makes an appearance!
In short, dream days don't really come better! Why don't I therefore own a classic car in my collection? The answer to that comes in the video.

imagine Shmee bringing an SL gullwing or SL roadster to the Shmuseum, and parking it next to his AMGs it is like the cars meeting their Grandpappy, I reckon that would be one of the most beautiful moments.

The 300 SL is THE car of all cars IMO.
It's so relatable to see Schmee, who has such a nice collection of vehicles, get just as excited as I would spotting all these different cars. What an event!
Shmee in the SL Roadster just looks and feels so right, and I really wish him all the best that he can get one of his own one day
I remember my dad had a Mercedes 300SL Roadster till it sadly caught fire in a garage about 7 years ago.
The car sat there for years as it was a project car waiting to be fully restored.
Crazy the prices of these things now, he had it from his early adult years from new.

That sl pagoda parked along side the 300sl at the end was also beautiful, for me personally, one of the coolest cars ever made!

Seeing Shmee lightly out of breath just from glee is my favorite thing.
You can get that new feeling with a classic car Shmee, just commission a complete restoration. Doesn't have to be something bonkers expensive, but a classic you like, and have a shop build it to your specifications including fresh drivetrain, your choice of paint and interior, etc.
Certified restoration aren't cheap in the slightest

Silver Gull Wing SL with red interior is one of coolest cars ever.
I think the audience actually does appreciate you being you on your platform regardless of popular opinion. It gives a breath of fresh air in the automotive community. If there ever was a person to introduce younger demographics to classic cars such as this one, it would be yourself.

I love seeing how excited you are to be here and just appreciating all of the cars. My parents got engaged on 17 mile drive and Carmel is my favorite weekend destination (and favorite car spotting destination). Our family friend featured his Huracan camera mounted car a couple years back but I have never been there myself. Hopefully next year!

That 300SL is the real supercar! I did some work at Stirling's townhouse in London for a few weeks & we had some great conversations about the 300SL & SLR, Fangio and general racing at the edge of death. I was lucky to have light conversations with him, just general chit chat when I was upgrading his 1970's 007 Hi-fi system in his snug. He also took me for a ride in his BMW bubble car. Which was terrifying!

Driving and carspotting in a 300SL and then seeing awesome cars like 5 P1s is definitely paradise. That was a blast.

That was a blast. It reminded me that many years ago I had a chance to buy a gullwing Mercedes for $6,800. And I passed. Bought a new Corvette instead!!!!!!!
The most interesting one was the 300SL you were driving i think. Those new McLarens and Ferraris kind of melts. And we see cars like that all the time these days on YT. It is refreshing with some older classics.
That's what motoring is all about. A 300SL is so cool that when you sit in one, all that speed, noise, pops and bangs don't mean a thing.
