Just want to let you all know, I didn’t show it in the unboxing, but the Manta does come with a clear plastic dust plug if you don’t want any of the pen loops installed. I missed it cause it was in the same bag as the extra screws. Sorry about that!
Thanks for the video, nice to have you back reviewing Ratta Supernote devices (as I joined you initially for this!). As for their previous devices, it is a pain to get it in Europe, their online store was down most of the launch day and all units had been sold when it finally worked properly a few hours later. Price is still higher here because of import taxes, and currently Ratta does not offer ANY pre-order option/information when they assured the waiting time was worth it and they would plan enough units for launch day, it really feels like European users are left behind... Still, the Manta seems interesting but I might go to other brands because of this. Could you please make a comparison of the three pens you have, with size specifications (especially the grip diameter and closeness to screen when writing, which one do you think is most "accurate" and comfortable to write with for a long period, etc.): I own a HOM2 and the feel and the size are very close to a regular pen, which is best to me.
Yes it’s good to be reviewing Supernote devices more! They definitely mean a lot to this channel as that’s how I got started! I’m really sorry to hear of all the troubles you’re having getting this device. I hope Supernote gets better at being more available in other countries. I will DEFINITELY be making a video comparing all three pens! Thanks for mentioning that! Let me know if there’s anything else you’re looking to see on this channel!
@@Graf-XTechReviews The online shop for EU now makes it possible to pre-order the device, I guess they needed some time to handle the success, which is fair on their side. I just assumed they managed to be more ready for the release day. I'll wait for the honest reviews to come out though, as it is won't be available before January 15th. And it is still a bit expensive because of taxes we have in Europe... Not Ratta's fault of course
This is a great unboxing. Glad we agree on the pen loop and half folio. Roderick is not a fan. I've had the A5X for 3.5 years so it's a great form factor.
Thanks for the comment Ed, and your unboxing was great too! You were definitely the first to get it out there! And yeah the more I use the Manta, the more I love the form factor, I’m excited to keep using it more and more.
As far as the current software version, the gestures are the same. And since they both have dual sidebars, I’m guessing Supernote will always keep the same gestures for both. But that’s not a bad thing, the Nomad’s gestures are great!
I would like to know how the writing experience is on your own PDF's that you scan in. I'm looking at scanning my Japanese workbooks into whatever new eReader that I decide to buy. Super note Manta or Nomad is on the top of my list so far but I want to know that the writing experience is just as good on scanned PDFs as it is in the super notes native tools.
It should be as you can set pdfs to be your template in just the regular notes for Supernote so you’ll have access to all those tools. I did make a video on PDF’s with the Nomad that you can check out, but I can definitely make one on the Manta as well and show a pdf that I scanned
Thank you for the response. I will check out your other review on the Nomad. I really want to get the best writing experience possible for Japanese practice so the Manta is at the top of my wishlist. But it will cost me a little over a thousand dollars after shipping and conversion to Canadian dollars so I want to make sure I make the right choice.
That’s really unfortunate! I’m sorry to hear that! I’ve heard that is a problem for a many different areas. I really hope Supernote grows and becomes even more available in other parts of the world!
If it's of any solace to you, it's been vritually immediately sold out in Europe, so I can't get my hands on it anyway 😅 I guess this at least gives me some times to wait for the first actual use reviews throughout January.
How is the anti-aliasing on the Manta? Is the writing as clean as it is on the recent Boox devices (e.g., Air 4C or Go 10.3) or is there any evident pixelation?
I can’t notice any pixelation on my handwriting. Unfortunately I don’t have one of the most recent Boox devices to compare that to directly. But from what I can tell, it looks amazing! I also noticed that by default, the “handwriting anti-aliasing” is turned off on the Supernote, so all you saw on the video was without it. So I’ll try turning it on and going back and forth to see what difference it makes
@@Graf-XTechReviews great, thanks for the quick reply. As far as the Boox Go 10.3 goes, the anti-aliasing is super crisp and there is no pixelation whatsoever. The lines are completely smooth (unlike the Remarkable 2, which, for example, is very pixelated when drawing curves).
With the tapered edge at the bottom and the feet set back, I was wondering if you are able to cause the device to rock by applying pressure with your thumbs at the bottom bezel with none elsewhere, and if so... if you can replicate that _'rocking'_ by applying pressure when squeezing in those last three lines of text at the bottom of a page? I doubt it, but its just one of those things that cross my mind.
Great question! In everything I’ve tried, I haven’t gotten it to rock. And when you fold the folio around it makes the surface completely flat as well. I just tried what you suggested and couldn’t get any rocking happening. But if I notice anything like that ever, I will definitely let everyone know!
To me, both reMarkable and Supernote beat out Boox by a lot! But I’d say this device definitely beats the reMarkable 2 for me, but as far as the Paper pro…That’s just a different experience. The Paper Pro is going more for the Pencil on a single sheet of paper feel where the Manta is more like a pen on a pad of paper. Both of them do there own well, but it just depends on what you like more
It’s actually a 10.7” now, but….hard to say. I’ll make a video on that when I’ve spent more time with them. I will say, I like the build quality of the larger one more though. Not by much, but by a little bit.
Yes, they mentioned that I would have that as well. I also never remembered seeing that in my unboxing, let me check the box and see if I missed something…
I doubt it, but only time will tell for sure. I’ve had the Nomad for a year and it’s also plastic on the back so I think it’ll be good, but obviously if I start getting scratches, I’ll let you guys know
what I think they should have done is just make a larger screen to plug into, so take your nomads guts and put it into larger screens with a bigger battery not buy a whole new unit
I see what you’re saying, but that’s kinda what they did. It’s the same motherboard just bigger battery and bigger screen. I don’t think most people would like to take out their motherboard and switch it to a different device. And honestly the screen and new shell and battery are probably the most expensive parts so I don’t think that would even save us a lot of money. It’s a cool thought though, just not sure how practical it would be.

Half folio🤔 not sure I like that but it looks like it works good

I want to know if the writing feel is far superior to Boox and Remarkable 2?

Supernote site says there is a dust cover plug that can be used instead of the loop in the box. I didn’t see it in your unboxing. Is it in the box?
Yes, they mentioned that I would have that as well. I also never remembered seeing that in my unboxing, let me check the box and see if I missed something…
I have confirmed I do have a dust plug. It was in the bag with the extra screws which I never opened, and that’s why I missed it. Hope that helps!

Is there film cover on the back?
Nope, the back is just the plastic, but I really like the quality of plastic they used, it feels great!
If it's been used for a month, will it scratch?
