Angelina's mother did not want Angelina to sing Back to Black with the original lyrics as they were too adult for a 10-year -old - as a result, Angelina had one day to rewrite the lyrics before this recording session - that is why you see her notes on the music stand - it is a good example of her songwriting capabilities even at this young age.
Angelina wrote her own lyrics to this song because her mother thought the original content was too adult for a ten year old. She came up with her alternative lyrics in the car while on her way to the studio. Here she is performing it for the first time, one hour after she finished her version.

Angelina is a huge fan of Amy's, which is no surprise, since Angelina is a self taught jazz singer and Amy is among the greatest jazz singers. Angelina's voice has a positive physical effect on me. Something I never experienced before. Johnny you are correct, there is a story of why Angelina always performs barefoot. We have heard 16 originals by her. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina never learned the orphan's name but called her Princess. The orphan girl replied, "princesses live in castles, we live in ruins". Angelina titled her song about this story, "Princess of Ruins". Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. We have confirmation of Angelina's genius. In the description on the video, for this performance, on Angelina's Official UA-cam channel, she writes "So here it is, We recorded this yesterday with amazing orchestra KORK. My version of "Back to Black by Amy Winehouse" I had 1 day to change the lyrics, hope you like my version!" She was 10 years old. The story has been told, that her mother, Sara, read the original lyrics, the day before the recording session and then told Angelina she couldn't sing them. KORK, had rehearsed the song, so Angelina had to write lyrics to fit the music and she nailed it, beautifully. There is a news feature video from NRK TV in Norway, where Angelina, her family and a couple friends visit a amusement park and are interviewed. The latter part of the video shows Angelina in a car, reviewing her new lyrics to this song, on her way to the recording session. She only needed a couple takes to make this final video. She's bare foot as when she was 6 years old, she met a homeless 6 year old girl w/o shoes, weighing people for money, on a visit to the Middle East. She wrote a book about it at 9 years old, making her Norway's youngest author. She was wearing her favorite shoes and gave them to the girl and from then on she said she would never wear shoes when she performs until all the kids have homes. She gave her winnings from NGT to charity, by 12, she's raised over $21 million in Euro's for charities.

What you need to know about Angelina is that she did know who Amy Winehouse was and had listened to her music - also Angelina chooses the songs she wants to sing and also knows how she wants to sing it - no "old guys" tell her was to do - in fact - it is the opposite - when Angelina goes into a rehearsal or performance she communicates what she wants - including writing, supervising, or collaborating on the musical arrangement - and she writes her own vocal arrangements - since she was 8 years old.

Angelina is unique in her tone, her technique and breath control, but her maturity and her ability to channel the lyrics and emotional energy of a song is her superpower. You would benefit from listening to her early career songs and some of her notable early covers to get a sense of how she became the singer she is now. “Norways Got Talent all four songs” is her first televised experience which got her a huge UA-cam presence at age 7-8. “What a Wonderful World” (8yo) is her first big outdoor live performance with a band and backup singers, and “I put a Spell on You” (9yo) will set you up and you will learn her full story from her fans by then.

Patro has given you some excellent choices, especially "I put a Spell on you" (black and white version) when she was 9 years old. But I would like to add in 7th Heaven an original song and one I like a lot. The story behind why she performs barefoot is truly heartwarming, she is a real talent and full of kindness and compassion. She started singing I believe at 18 months old and is a natural talent. Her first time in the recording studio is also an excellent watch where she sings "I who have nothing." at age six. Keep in mind that English is also not her first language and shes singing at six. Angelina is almost certain proof of reincarnation, because she has so many of the greats within her. The more you find out about her the more remarkable she is, and her parents looked after her as well, making sure she finished highschool , before being promoted by her label. She has the same effect with pretty much any artist she covers.... even if it's a 60 year old black man, as in her cover of Scream'in Jay Hawkins 1956 song "I put a spell on You". There are many mashups out there and she never disappoints. She always "nails it" with any song she does. By watching her live performances you can see there are no re-do's. She is well versed in the older Jazz standards, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and that ilk. She won Norway's got talent when she was 7-8 YO. She even covered Elvis' big hit from 1969 "Suspicious Minds" when she was 16. She writes her own arrangements to suit her voice. IMHO, the best & most versatile artist of my lifetime. They say that 90% of vocal performances that we are listening to has some sort of variation of auto-tune to them. Not hearing any auto-tune here, this young lady is the real deal, let that sink in. Right away people take notice? Over 200+ covers and a dozen or so originals, performed live at the as a special guest at the prestigious Nobel Prize 2022 ceremony; in 2024 she was performing live shows in Vegas. Sir, Miss Angelina was 8 years old when her country declared her "the national treasure of Norway". To this day (she resides in LA but visits home often) they treat her like a noble woman who is VERY humble about it. Even today she is a role model to the young Norwegians and the lokal hero, who made her dreams come true by working hard (since age 3, yes three) focus on your goal and work for it. Great reaction! The reality of what you have postulated is actually surprisingly different. Angelina has been a fan of Amy’s since she was about eight (she’s almost ten here). The day before she was due to record this cover with the Norwegian orchestra (Angelina is Norwegian) her mother read the adult lyrics and said there’s no way you can sing this. Angelina stayed up late that night re-writing the lyrics (in English 😳) and she is looking at the new lyrics on the sheets of paper in front of her because she had just finished putting the final touches on them on the ride over to the studio (there is video of her doing this). As to Angelina’s bare feet - that story is also remarkable but it will have to wait for another day. The year Angelina performed this cover she also became the youngest author in Norway’s history by writing the book “Mellom to Hjerter” (Between Two Hearts”). The book tells the heart wrenching story of why she always performs barefooted. ♥️👣

Great reaction. She almost certainly is reminding herself of the lyrics, which she rewrote at her mother's insistence to make it more age appropriate. As the legend goes, she did it in the car on the way to the studio, so she needed her cheat sheet. As far as soul and connection to the song: you ain't heard nothing yet. Angelina has two middle names. (1) soulful voice and (2) connection-to-the-song. Keep listening. And she reminds everybody of Amy.

Amy is one of Angelina's big influences. She is very attuned to classic jazz vocalists going back to the 1950's like Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday. Angelina's covers always honor the integrity and spirit of a song, in most cases creating the best version of the song. Angelina has a beautiful voice but that's just the beginning. Hey Bernie, thanks for keeping it real by saying "one of the greatest..." because, I really do love AJ, have been following her closely for more then four years now, but I also do love some other artists just as much, and I personally don't like idolizing and absolutism, it's very disrespectful towards other artists who are just as good, in their own ways... She not only rewrote the song, but did it in a way, the musicians did not have to change the melody. KORK is the highly respected (in Scandinavia) radio orchestra of Norway. You are very astute. You may have guessed wrong, but you knew there was a reason for changing the lyrics (inappropriate for a 10 year old), there was a reason they highlighted removing her shoes, reading the lyrics (she wrote then the night before) and that she is giving homage Amy. This is the most unique musician and amazingly humble. I can’t wait to see where her career goes. By the way, I have seen her 4 US concerts in the last year and can’t wait to go again.

There were two guitar players she worked with. When she was younger and in Norway it was Egil (I can't remember his last name) and when she moved to Los Angeles she had Ivan Mendez for a few songs. AGT Champions: She got high praise, a golden buzzer and Queen gave her the copyright to her version of the song. Her manager, her uncle Mike, refused to sign a contract for her AGT appearances that included her having to sign up with Simon's record label, so the video that includes her receiving the golden buzzer was taken down and is much harder to find.
She eventually signed with Republic Records at the age of 14 as the studio showed a lot of respect for her talent and her family's concern for her young age. They gave her her own studio with part of the contract reportedly being that they were not allowed to promote her as they would other new artists until she was older, perhaps 18.

Angelina's mother did not want Angelina to sing Back to Black with the original lyrics as they were too adult for a 10-year -old - as a result, Angelina had one day to rewrite the lyrics before this recording session - that is why you see her notes on the music stand - it is a good example of her songwriting capabilities even at this young age.

Angelina is a huge fan of Amy's, which is no surprise, since Angelina is a self taught jazz singer and Amy is among the greatest jazz singers. Angelina's voice has a positive physical effect on me. Something I never experienced before. Johnny you are correct, there is a story of why Angelina always performs barefoot. We have heard 16 originals by her.
*Why Angelina always performs barefoot*
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina never learned the orphan's name but called her Princess. The orphan girl replied, "princesses live in castles, we live in ruins". Angelina titled her song about this story, "Princess of Ruins".
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. We have confirmation of Angelina's genius. In the description on the video, for this performance, on Angelina's Official UA-cam channel, she writes "So here it is, We recorded this yesterday with amazing orchestra KORK. My version of "Back to Black by Amy Winehouse" I had 1 day to change the lyrics, hope you like my version!" She was 10 years old.
The story has been told, that her mother, Sara, read the original lyrics, the day before the recording session and then told Angelina she couldn't sing them. KORK, had rehearsed the song, so Angelina had to write lyrics to fit the music and she nailed it, beautifully.
There is a news feature video from NRK TV in Norway, where Angelina, her family and a couple friends visit a amusement park and are interviewed. The latter part of the video shows Angelina in a car, reviewing her new lyrics to this song, on her way to the recording session. She only needed a couple takes to make this final video. She gave her winnings from NGT to charity, by 12, she's raised over $21 million in Euro's for charities.

What you need to know about Angelina is that she did know who Amy Winehouse was and had listened to her music - also Angelina chooses the songs she wants to sing and also knows how she wants to sing it - no "old guys" tell her was to do - in fact - it is the opposite - when Angelina goes into a rehearsal or performance she communicates what she wants - including writing, supervising, or collaborating on the musical arrangement - and she writes her own vocal arrangements - since she was 8 years old.

Patro has given you some excellent choices, especially "I put a Spell on you" (black and white version) when she was 9 years old. But I would like to add in 7th Heaven an original song and one I like a lot. The story behind why she performs barefoot is truly heartwarming, she is a real talent and full of kindness and compassion. She started singing I believe at 18 months old and is a natural talent. Her first time in the recording studio is also an excellent watch where she sings "I who have nothing." at age six. Keep in mind that English is also not her first language and shes singing at six. Angelina is almost certain proof of reincarnation, because she has so many of the greats within her. The more you find out about her the more remarkable she is, and her parents looked after her as well, making sure she finished highschool , before being promoted by her label. She also arranges the music herself and has done since she was very little. Her tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins for I put a Spell on you showcases just how good she is.

She has the same effect with pretty much any artist she covers.... even if it's a 60 year old black man, as in her cover of Scream'in Jay Hawkins 1956 song "I put a spell on You". There are many mashups out there and she never disappoints. She always "nails it" with any song she does. By watching her live performances you can see there are no re-do's. She is well versed in the older Jazz standards, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and that ilk. She won Norway's got talent when she was 7-8 YO. She even covered Elvis' big hit from 1969 "Suspicious Minds" when she was 16. She writes her own arrangements to suit her voice. IMHO, the best & most versatile artist of my lifetime. Check out "I put a Spell on You" recorded when she was 9. I would avoid her more recent live concert appearances, as they sound like they were recorded on a fans phone, and probably were.

Angelina has many famous artists that influence her singing a style. She started out at a very young age (6-8years old) with some of the old jazz standards like Billie Holiday, Etta James, Shirley Bassy, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, just to name a few. As she has progressed, she has added artists like Amy Winehouse, Elvis Presly, and others. She refers to her fans as her angels and we have been watching her grow and develop for 10 years now. She is currently 18 years old, and just this year she has headlined two sold out crowds in Las Vegas at the International theater where Elvis performed his shows and another show at the Alex theater in Glendale (LA) Ca. I attended both these shows and they were fantastic. Her latest single out is "Bad Valentine", which she co-wrote with Toby Gad and Charlotte Jane, and there are several versions out. Right away people take notice? To this day (she resides in LA but visits home often) they treat her like a noble woman who is VERY humble about it. Even today she is a role model to the young Norwegians and the lokal hero, who made her dreams come true by working hard (since age 3, yes three) focus on your goal and work for it. Almost every musician on Earth feels honored when working with Miss Angelina Jordan (fact). Always well behaved, kind, friendly but stubborn, when it comes to music.

Great reaction! The reality of what you have postulated is actually surprisingly different.
Angelina has been a fan of Amy’s since she was about eight (she’s almost ten here). The day before she was due to record this cover with the Norwegian orchestra (Angelina is Norwegian) her mother read the adult lyrics and said there’s no way you can sing this. Angelina stayed up late that night re-writing the lyrics (in English 😳) and she is looking at the new lyrics on the sheets of paper in front of her because she had just finished putting the final touches on them on the ride over to the studio (there is video of her doing this).
As to Angelina’s bare feet - that story is also remarkable but it will have to wait for another day. The year Angelina performed this cover she also became the youngest author in Norway’s history by writing the book “Mellom to Hjerter” (Between Two Hearts”). The book tells the heart wrenching story of why she always performs barefooted. ♥️👣

Great reaction. She almost certainly is reminding herself of the lyrics, which she rewrote at her mother's insistence to make it more age appropriate. As the legend goes, she did it in the car on the way to the studio, so she needed her cheat sheet. As far as soul and connection to the song: you ain't heard nothing yet. There are so many great versions of out barefoot princes. The path You're on will be a most Excellent Adventure my friend. Me and my family fell in love with her 10 yeas ago and she hs Never failed to hit us all in the feels. Hey Bernie, thanks for keeping it real by saying "one of the greatest..." because, I really do love AJ, have been following her closely for more then four years now, but I also do love some other artists just as much, and I personally don't like idolizing and absolutism, it's very disrespectful towards other artists who are just as good, in their own ways... In the end it's a matter of taste and experience whom we prefer at a certain point of our lives, for me it's been RAYE for the past five months since I discovered her, and I'm not saying she's better, or "the best", I just can relate so much to her journey, her lyricism, her honesty and humble spirit... or I do love me some Faouzia, and I love me the greats of the past, Nina Simone, Etta James, Ella, Billie, Sarah, Amy, Aretha, you name them... and still I really enjoy watching AJ grow, and watching reactions of people hearing her for the first time... Dear sir, as friend Robert said, she had to rewrite the whole song because it was not age appropriate. She not only rewrote the song, but did it in a way, the musicians did not have to change the melody. KORK is the highly respected (in Scandinavia) radio orchestra of Norway. At age 10 she was already famous for her uncanny, spooky ability to sense music. Even well seasoned musicians and conductors of famous orchestras asked her for advise and still accept her advise in musical things.

As you continue to listen to her (from when she was 7!) your heart will take over and there will be many times when you will be left speechless. You'll get goosebumps and on occasion besides tearing up there will be times when you start to cry. Her voice brings you joy, hope and most of all, love. Besides her soulful voice with the magic of jazz, part of the mystique is 'who she is'. Of course you will find out why she sings barefoot. That story will touch you deeply.

You are very astute. You may have guessed wrong, but you knew there was a reason for changing the lyrics (inappropriate for a 10 year old), there was a reason they highlighted removing her shoes, reading the lyrics (she wrote then the night before) and that she is giving homage Amy. This is the most unique musician and amazingly humble. I can’t wait to see where her career goes. By the way, I have seen her 4 US concerts in the last year and can’t wait to go again.

Hi Johnny! Thanks for reacting to Angelina! I can tell you that Angelina is the QUEEN of covers, apart from being a great songwriter on her own. She grew up listening and singing "old" singers, her roots are deeply into Aretha, Billie Holiday, Frank, etc. She was reading the lyrics because she had to change them as her mom didn't allow her to sing the "real" one as they weren't age-appropriate.
Check out her covers of "Valerie" from when she was 12 to when she was like 16 live. You'll "hate" her less and less for covering Amy's songs, lol.

Most of her videos between ages of 10 and 15 are her in a room in a house with a guitar player. There were two guitar players she worked with. When she was younger and in Norway it was Egil (I can't remember his last name) and when she moved to Los Angeles she had Ivan Mendez for a few songs.
There's an interview with Ivan Mendez by Alan Papier (He does "Wrapped in a Warm Blanket" podcast which is Angelina focused). The interview is awesome as Ivan tells how their videos were often single takes - she can do single takes, he sometimes would foul up and they'd have to do another. And that is after brainstorming for song ideas, listening to the song once or twice and then performing!! AMAZING!!

Angelina re-wrote some of the lyrics to make them age appropriate. She also adjusts the arrangement, if she thinks is needs it. She is music personified, and music is her.
