My husband and I are from Maine and we founded a homeless shelter for women with children and when I started writing grands for this 501c ministry home I received a letter from King's foundation and He was going to donate a large amount money. With a monthly donation after that! He is a very generous man and we will never forget what he did to keep our shelter running.

Im 52, when I was little my mom would always be reading his latest novel late at night and be all scared which in turn kind of freaked me out. Nowadays my mom has room in the house that is a library full of all his writings. The sheer amount, seeing them all in one place, is mind-boggling. Thanks for the video!

I wish Mr.King would write a book titled " Scalped, " it's aboutt a wig that had been made from a little girls hair who was sculped by Indians in the 14th century infact there's a grave containing nearly 500 victims some with evidence of scalping it was found near Crow Creek ,South Dakota and there as I type. Anyway, I had this idea where a woman who loved her hair made a living being a shampoo model suddenly becomes sick with breast cancer after all most stories never use a morden type vibe anyway, she looses her hair and her girlfriend who knew the importance of her hair seeks out for a beautiful wig, to which she happened to be vacationing at Crow Creek South Dakota and finds a wig that was a wig of such beautiful hair ( real hair ) and it was made with the hair of Elizabeth who was scalped. You get the idea the wig carried the little girls soul and Margaret the breast cancer patient becomes obsessed once receiving this wig. I know Mr. King could take this idea and make it a great novel. I can't write but, I'm a great story teller.

My mom was an avid reader and gave her love of reading to me.❤. I can "see" the people, places, etc when i read. It's like my brain is a tv. Thanks, Mom! I ❤️ and miss you❤

I can still "see" some of the scenes he's written... especially the one with the big worm thing traveling through the woods (can't remember that vividly colored book but I think it was Bachman...I actually couldn't finish that one because his imagination surpassed mine!)

That book had one of the best written endings I've ever read. The movie was good, the book was just so well written.
An incredible book. The movie was also great but the book.... off the charts. How anyone could fill chapters talking about a single mouse the way he did, was genius.

Carrie is the one that couldn't show in the movie what was in the book, like what she was thinking, which was so important considering her power and the fact that she was always in her head. The book is a zillion times better than the movie. 🕊️🤙🏼

In fact, that book is the reason I made it a rule for my kids to always read the book before ever watching any movie that came from that book. I have 3 kids who even policed each other and made sure nobody cheated lol. I read it the summer between middle and high school, many moons ago I turn 50 on November 13th. 🕊️🤙🏼
I've always thought that about this guy. I believe he's actually been to THAT place and back. What sealed it for me was "Storm of the Century." He knows of what he speaks.

yeah, Storm of the Century had me wondering for years.... I saw it as a kid then, they wouldn't play it for years -- you had to buy the DVD; they are playing it now on some streaming; lots of his 'movies/books' have a certain realism to them --- yeah, something is heading him up, so to speak

I'm 63, read my first S King book The Stand when I was in my late teens and was blown away. I have read just about every one of his books, that one there was my all time favorites. I felt like I really knew the characters; he is just an Excellent storyteller. Thank you for this ❤❤❤
I am 50 years old. My first contact with his works was when I was 16. I found a copy of Pet Sematary in my house bookcase. It was the first book I ever read that made me leave the bedroom lights on when I went to bed. I have read lots of horror books, a lot from king and then a lot from others. I remember when king moved a bit away from horror and i still loved all his books
One day in 2019 I learned the continuation to the Shining was released (Dr Sleep) and I knew it would not be too dark, and I was interested to know how it would be, knowing King was not so focused in horror anymore.
Then one night reading the book i got to a particular horror scene, that made me leave the lights on, and I thought to myself "hey Mr King, you did not lose your touch, congrats"
It was a good movie. I know the book is better. I will read it one day.
Pet semetary scared me more than It and The stand. I recently finished Under the dome and tried to watch the CBS series. I wish they would treat his source material with more reverence 😮😂

I've never read another author with the command of English that Stephen has.
He has the ability to draw the reader into his stories to the extent that you feel you know all his characters personally. His attention to detail is unsurpassed, even when some of the details wouldn't be known to many people. Keep writing; I can never get enough of your stories!

He is very good at bumming people out. Scaring people on purpose is not a constructive activity.
Stephen King is my inspiration. It’s something about poverty that makes you go inside to entertain yourself. Reading everything you see. Then you will see your first king book. Then you’re hooked on going to that place. Tales from the crypt, horror in general. I write urban fiction and horror. It’s the best.
It isn’t always fiscal poverty, I have noticed, it can be a lack of self esteem, or being on the outside of social groups, sometimes it is having no one that understands you, or having no one who affords you love. It can be abuse (of any kind).
All these things and more can cause us to turn inward, and eventually discover the power of books. They welcome us in, and do not denigrate the feelings they evoke in us. Books become friends, some lasting a lifetime, and we become willing participants.
A good book never lets you down, but becomes a little deeper each time you revisit its pages and characters. You never grasp it entirely from a single reading. Some authors seem to know our deepest selves, and our needs, and we are drawn again and again to drink from the well of understanding they represent.
We watch a movie…but we experience a book, we willingly become part of a book, we develop feelings (good and bad) for the characters and the settings. With enough exposure and effort…we can heal ourselves through books, and the authors may never know the integral role they played in helping to heal so many very wounded lives.
Fahrenheit 451 is understood so much more fully once we understand that relationship between ourselves and a very special book. Book burnings are hateful things, and steal from us so much more than just a story, or an uncomfortable truth.🖤🇨🇦

I had a similar experience except I had cancer as a kid and teenager and I used reading to kind of dissociate and distract myself..to not think about things that were going on. I loved to read..still do.
@@pysq8 I always get carried away with my love for literature and what books have been to me especially in my childhood. I was born and raised in the average urban drug infested hopeless environment ripe with death and pain. Books were my saving grace. I was able to read from a young age my mom was a genius in every since of the word. She had an IQ of 168. She taught me a lot before the drugs and the depression took her away from me. Books were my best friends from my beginners bible to autobiographical books on Roosevelt,MLK, Augustus Frederick Douglass, The Rothschild's and the Rockefellers then I saw a huge book by King called"The Stand" I read for 8 days non-stop. That was the day I knew what I wanted to do. Scare people and make them think before making a choice that can impact their entire life. I found the entire volume set of creepshow at the library. Takes from the crypt at the library then it happened....I found Stephen King's "IT"my life was never the same. I sound like Hannibal lector I'm King's most avid fan. Sip this tea slowly it's my story.
What an amazing wife Stephen King has. To support him throughout all this is the wife of legends. Any guy could be so lucky.
Tabitha King is also an excellent author in her own rite. She hung in there with him.
Stephen was blessed with two great women in his life, his wife and his mother. I think he probably would have still become a writer without them, but perhaps not so prolific and long-lived.

I have all SK’s books. I am a member of the Stephen King library. I guess if I had to pick a favorite it would be the Stand. He is absolutely the best author of my generation. I can’t wait for more.

That was the hardest one for me to get through because of the subject matter, but I'd say it was my favorite as well. Also have to say Pet Semetary really threw me, never forget that one either,lol.

My mom read every book Stephen King wrote. She literally had a bookcase dedicated to him. I navigated more towards Dean Koontz but my love of horror books came from her❤

I used to read some Koontz in between Kings books in an attempt to soothe my cravings for a good story.
I quit reading Koontz after a few books of his when I realized that I was always disappointed in his endings.
He lays out this pretty good detailed story for the whole of the book only to hurry through the ending in the last chapters.
The endings are always too abrupt.
Instead of spinning it out to savor the story.
Like he's condensing it to make it fit a publishers request to X amount of words.
Or he is sick of writing it and just wants to get it over with.
I think the first one though. Contractual obligation.
I really have no idea if course. Just guessing as to the why. But once I figured out that he was consistent in this, I stopped reading his stuff, cuz I knew I would be disappointed every time.
Whereas King left me craving more every time.
Kings characters are like great friends by the end of the story, and i actually miss them when they are gone.
Also he doesn't leave any loose ends. Or if he does, you know it will be pulled out and tied up in a future tale.
Misery was about his addiction to heroin,She just didn't let him go
I thought it was so brilliant to describe his addiction as someone who no matter what he does not leave him to run away from it

I forgot about Carrie. I went to the drive-in theater with my older siblings to see that. I saw it again on my own a few years later when I was older. That was a good book and a good movie.😊

Salem’s Lot got me hooked on books at 11yo. I started writing my own short stories in 1987 and still doing it now. Finally got published in 2019 with the first story I ever submitted. Since then, my suspense-horror stories have appeared in several indie small press anthologies and an eZine. I have one solo collection seeking publication and working on a second, with a novel in the pipeline. I thank Stephen King for his inspiration through the years.

I am an avid reader , and Stephen King is a big reason why . As a young teen I read The Stand & The Bachman Books hooked me for life .By far my absolute favorite has to be The Gunslinger Series, I've read them so many times . I even have a little stone turtle I keep with the books 📚. ❤

They are my favorite ones, also. I’ve read them so many times I can’t count!! I started with the shining and absolutely loved every minute of that book. I loaned it to a high school English teacher and she stayed up all night reading it and had to call in sick the next day because she couldn’t put it down.😅

I always had that suspicion that Stephen King had a dark side to him. Anyone who could write horror stories brilliantly the way he did definitely had some encounter with evil in their lives.

Not always but I get your point. Roald Dahl is the same. I grew up reading science fiction, so the leap to horror wasn't too difficult, because you would imagine in your mind, what if?
But now I wonder about everything, including where he got his ideas for things like Dr.Sleep again, children are victims, vampirism and the like sound eerily like some tin foiled hat theories.

I remember I was on punishment at 15 and had to stay in my room. I loved it because I love to be isolated and I read Stephen King's "IT". He took a while to start the actual story but when I got into it. It scared the crap out of me. Then I read "Tommy Knockers". His stories are amazing. Now that Iam older, I realize Stephen just might be the most sinister person in real life. I try to figure how a person can create such horrific treasures. One of the best of all time.
It had me in a chokehold and it scared me at the same time (used to read it in class); at one point I got so scared I screamed in class during prep that was the last king book I read
King is definitely a credit to the writing profession, and I think the most phenomenal element of his genius is his acknowledgement of the support of his wife and family. Hat's off to Tabitha and the King family.

King believes in God and has famously attributed his skill at the depiction of unsettling evil with the ability to contrast that with the opposite energy. To paraphrase he said something to the effect of "you can't intimately understand the bad without equal knowledge of good" . So you're way off , and it sounds to me like your religious beliefs actually bring YOU unnecessary negative emotions which are fueled by your belief in a completely harmful and psychotic book written by a bunch of rich, powerful, misogynistic, slavery defending d bags thousands of years ago. But then I do not share you and Mr Kings belief in "God", more because of people like you than anything I have read in his work over my lifetime of reading him from age 12 until now in my fifties.
You are dead on 💯to the extreme. Fact is, if Tabitha had not pulled "Carrie" from the garbage and encouraged him to not only continue the manuscript but to also let it breathe as a novel (he trashed it from the frustration if trying to compress it into a short story) we are very likely not gathering here in the digital space many decades later to talk about his significance 🤘🤘🤘🤘

THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS BIOGRAPHY !!! Stephen King put everything in his films. Real comedy, dry humor, funny horror, groce humor. In some he had the soap opera appeal, the family touch, the tacky touch, the kookiness in his films are a special treat ! The trash people, the good people, the strange people/including himself (I appreciated all of his cameos) ! The mystery, the scare, the horror and some with endings I hated and some I loved. The actors were always a great fit for the role. No matter what his movies were about and even if a few weren't so great, I liked them ! No matter if others criticized some, I liked them. Yeah, I just like all of his films and I always watch repeats, if I don't have the dvd. Yet, I don't idolize him. I appreciate his work !
It's just as well he's such a talented writer, it's always a good idea to separate the artist from who they are in real life.
I've always liked Stephen King. I enjoy listening to him, reading about him, as well as reading his books. My favorite book is, The Stand, both the long and short versions.

My first book was The Stand , I read it one week . I wasn’t working at the time , my kids were in school , so as soon as the left for school , I sat out in the sun enjoying both . It’s hard to say which is my favorite as they all get my attention . Was sad that the movie The Shining wasn’t like the book like it was written . Would have been so much better if it did . His books are hard to put down .
The Stand is my firm favourite, actually read it again during covid - must be a sucker for punishment. I am sure that is why I didn't get Captain Tripps .. 😮
I loved both the book and the movie. I think Kubrick did what he had to do to make a cinematic masterpiece. I know many people whose favorite horror movie is The Shining. I think it’s the best King film adaptation personally.
Creepshow scared the crap out of me as a kid. I absolutely love it ❤.
I started reading King when I was 13 and now I’ve passed the love of his books on to my 13 year old granddaughter. And she’s working her way through his collection in my library. He is an amazingly talented author. I don’t know that I can name a favorite because they’re all so good. Pet Cemetery kept me awake with the lights on.
I found Stephen King in high school my favorites are "The Stand,Wind through a Keyhole,Duma Keys,Bag of Bones and the entire Gunslingers series and on works with others no doubt it's " The Talisman and Black House ." I always buy the hard back copy of his newest book. I have read my favorites over and over again. They're definitely old friends.
I was an extra in Graveyard Shift, but love knowing Carrie was based on a student with Encephalitis, which I have.
Listen to his audiobooks! So cool! Graveyard Shift is da bomb!!!
The stand was his masterpiece in my opinion. When the movie version of the novel came out, it was then that I truly understood why people would always say that the movie did not come close to the book. The characters are already made up in your mind and the movie usually disappoint. That is only one of many reasons why the book is always better. But I’m the case of “the stand”, the characters were pretty much spot on from what my imagination had conjured up.

Bill Faggerbakke was a perfect Tom Cullen, Larry Underwood and Randall Flagg were great, even Rob Lowe was perfect.

I was and still am an avid reader. I credit this to SK because I can remember as young as 9 reading The Talisman and I became hooked. Soon after, it was Needful Things, Carrie, of course “IT” amongst all his others. He created a world for me to escape into and I will eternally be grateful for this. I’ve seen quite a few of the movies his books were made into and as entertaining as they are, I’ve always said to the people watching with me, that the book is so much better. I don’t think I’ll ever not re-read his books over and over. They are beautiful works of art that need dusting off occasionally and gentle hands to turn the yellowing pages.
He does this thing in his writing that doesn't wash away in the movies - that strangeness is like a quiet moonlit stage in the dark mystic, a twist version of the world . It's why I like him, nobody else does it. I don't read him but think he's essential
I certainly think he should be required reading in American schools.
Out of all his books The Stand is by far my favorite work of his.
Absolutely fabulous biography! I have been a Stephen King fan since I was 16 years old, 45 years ago! My favorite work by him is "'Salem's Lot", and the next is his short story book "Night Shift". I read "Carrie" first, which my parents brought home for me as a paperback, but it was "Salem's Lot" that captured me, heart and soul, as one of his biggest fans. Thank you so much for this wonderful biography!!
King studied English Literature, and uses known tropes - such as those by HP Lovecraft. . He follows well known formulas for horror writing, but with his own twist. “I recognize terror as the finest emotion and so I will try to terrorize the reader. But if I find that I cannot terrify, I will try to horrify, and if I find that I cannot horrify, I'll go for the gross-out.” - Stephen King

Shawshank Redemption and Dolores Claiborne are favorites. I enjoyed The Stand until the story reached Colorado and Las Vegas. What I admire most about King is his character dialog. His characters come alive in the natural way they converse. And King is able to insert their personalities in their choice of words.
I have the stand original release, and the stand Kings own rerelease. King should ALWAYS put his unadulterated works out there. The movie lawnmower man was nothing like the original story, which I love. Thank you Mr.king.
Shawshank, believe it or not, is a short story titled RITA HAYWORTH AND THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION I believe. Ooohhhhh Andy !!!!
SR is the best. So is the green mile. The mercy and compassion the prison guards showed to the healer prisoner was epic! Loved the film. Excellent!! Also justice against that child murderer was awesome!
Gerald's Game impressed me the most. After chapter one, I was like "how can you make a whole book out of this scenario now" 😅 ...how could I underestimate this guy!
Pet Sematary is definitely my favorite! One of the first horror movies I ever watched!
I love the dark tower series. I love how he tied all the rest of his his work into it. Very original!
How to explain the Dark Tower series to someone who never read King. It's a real mash up of genres. So there is this guy, the gunslinger, who looks similar to a cowboy of spaghetti westerns, who has this ability to do interdimensional travel, who ascribes to a belief that's looks like a religion, develops a cult following, is out to save the world from the apocalypse. Like I said, mash up. And the theme throughout his other books, I did a look up on how they were underlying themes in his other books and how they tied together.
I loved Pet Sematary. I remember reading it in one night. Not being able to put it down. Then being too scared to sleep. I’ve always loved his books. I can remember reading him when I was younger and driving the local Walden bookstore crazy constantly asking when his next book was coming out in paperback.❤️🖤❤️

This is probably the best bio video ever, dude, seriously!! When i was 15, i read different seasons, and it changed my life. i was frightened at night i could see and feel what the characters did.... "IT"scared the absolute shid outta me i loved the feeling. Reading was my escape, not from the ordinary but from poverty and family toxicity. I could close the door to my room, and I was not in the new mexico desert. I was enjoying the rain in Maine 😊
I had the original paperback version of the shining so needless to say the first attempt of making a movie out of it was grossly disappointing!! But the mini series was much more accurate.
I read IT and The Shining while working midnight shifts as a teenager. Both books thoroughly freaked me out.

IT was Steven Kings work that I read for a literature class in 10th grade in 1990.
IT gave me nightmares until a couple months later the "made for TV movie" was televised locally.
Luckily, I had already finished the book, but was made sick as to how "simplified" the movie made in comparison...
To this day, both IT and THE STAND are my absolute favorite of his books!
I felt the same way about Misery. The movie is fantastic, and I'm a huge Kathy Bates fan, but the book is better imho.
The depth of feeling that happens in his books isnt able to be felt in a movie, I think.

Pet Sematary is absolutely my favorite Stephen King book. The first hundred pages are boring, but once you get to Gage's death you realize why it was all necessary - all that setup makes it so much more horrifying when the kid dies. And I knew that would happen! I went into that book knowing it was about Louis Creed trying to bring back his dead son. But King still had me hoping that maybe somehow Gage would be fine... and then there's the funeral. The depiction of grief immediately after the death was beautiful. I've never seen it done in a way that feels so raw. I burst into tears reading that scene, and it was far from the last time. I couldn't put the book down. I needed to know what was going to happen when he buried Gage. Zelda was really well done, too. That was a horrifying, sickening conversation. And I mean that as a compliment. And after the dream about what would've happened if Gage had survived... which also made me cry... the book got me to a point where, if Gage's name was so much as mentioned, I'd tear up. That book is amazing.
Oh, yeah, and I couldn't sleep with the lights off for a week after reading it.
He also writes under a pseudonym. King wrote the book The Lovely Bones, a sad , beautiful, book with an ironic twist ending.
I am not a huge fan, but i do appreciate what he does for young writers, young filmakers, and his community.
I used to read his books, and they always captivated me at the beginning. He has a way of character and plot development that is top notch. Unfortunately, it tends to fall apart as the story starts to wind down. This biography kind of answers my question as to why that happened. If you start a story with no concept of how it ends, you can write yourself into a "dead zone"(no pun intended. ) I'm guessing thats why some of his stories lose their intensity and focus toward the end.
They also made no mention of how his early works all had horrible endings. I refused to read his stuff after a few awful endings. Real life is full of tragedy and I dont read books to endure that in my "escapism" time. I am a retired police officer, so dealing with tragedy was not something i paid money to "enjoy".
I really hope Mr. King comes to know Jesus before his next brush with death. God is real, He isn't "something that comes from inside us". We are given an entire lifetime to get to know Him, and there are no "do overs" when your time is up. It is accounted to man once to die, then the judgement. Tragically, most people will not choose wisely while here on Earth, and once you are dead, its too late to change your mind. God really, really loves you.
Please understand that I mean no offence, and am not denigrating the Christian God in what I say. Divinity speaks as many languages as we do, and reveals itself in the language of the one who is having the experience.
The Indigenous peoples of the world know their Creator in ways that are every bit as deep and meaningful as the Christian. They too come away changed, and uplifted…with a sense of how they must live to be worthy of that grace.
Those who lived before the coming of the God of Israel and His Son gave worship with pure hearts and intentions. They did what was asked of them by the Divine, through a genuine desire to please the Divine…and to make the world a better place for all.
Every faith has those who will abuse it to gain power, prestige, and/or wealth…even every Christian sect. Each also have those who go through the observances and Rituals out of fear…
but none of these sully or invalidate the many more who enter with pure intentions, in the name of love and honest reverence, seeking no other reward than to be in the aura of the Divine Creator.🖤🇨🇦

Tamara falls to recognize how remarkably similar native spirit and Christianity are though simply expressed thru a differing cultural eyes of a people. Even Early Chinese and how their writing(traditional)were formed can show Genesis, Jesus' birth, his death and rising and the story too of Noah(8 persons in a boat) etc. This affirms the mass of peoples spread out from Babylon to All sides of earth having their own Culture whilst knowing and handing down...the Chronology and Early Stories from GOD. Early Han emperor Chronicales. It is All Facinating to know We all are bonded to each other even from All sides and corners of the Planet.
One of my favorites is The Raft redone as part of Creepshow 2 (an 80s trilogy of terror type movie, that’s nostalgia) but Misery & Dolores Claiborne, are tied for the best spot imho and Carrie has a special place in my heart.
I love the seven book dark tower series!! I have it in audio on my iPod. I work on an assembly line and I am listening to it for the eighth time in a row!! It just makes work much better hanging out with Roland & the gang 😁❤️

I'm glad at the end you finally mentioned "his characters". That is what drew me to Stephen King back in 1974 when I picked up the paperback "Carrie". I couldn't put it down and he has never disappointed me all these years, though I will say that I'm not so much into the fantasy works. But he writes the best characters. They suck you in and don't spit you out until the end of the book. He is the best! I love all his books, but I have to say that I think "The Stand" is a real masterpiece. Right now I'm listening to the audio of "The Outsider".
Pet Sematary scared the sh** out of me when I read it as a 13 year old. I remember having to check the closets and under the bed. It was the only book I’ve ever read that made the hairs on my arms stand on end

He is an amazing man. My favorite all time book by ANYONE is The Stand. I fell in love with the characters. My son read it when he was 12, turned it over and read it again. We would cast a movie made from it long before the miniseries ever existed. Kevin Costner as Stu Redman, Bruce Springsteen as Larry Underwood, etc. In the miniseries, I really liked the guy who played Larry, but my favorite was Bill Faggerbacke as Tom Cullen. He was perfect. I wanted that book to never end.
We cornered Mr. King at the Avalon Book Store in Houston, Texas. He was at a book signing for a friend, and my kids and I knew he wasn't coming in through the front door, where all the people were waiting, so we sneaked around to the back door. We were the only people back there. Sure enough, a limo pulled up and who should get out but Steve himself. He let us take pictures with him, and I had my 1st Edition hardback copy of the original The Stand with me and he autographed it for me. My kids were taking his picture with me, finally, and he leaned down...and I thought "Omg! Words of wisdom from Stephen King!"
He said, "I've really gotta go to the bathroom!" I don't know what I expected, but that SURE wasn't it!"
I said, "Well, GO, then!"
All in all, he was a really nice man, and ill never forget those words of wisdom...

I read the book 3 or 4 times myself and it is one of my favorites. I also love Dean Koontz and Peter Straub. Especially Peter and Stephens collaborations.
@@luvbug1318 sometimes it's hard to get into Straubs work. Example: Ghost Story. The movie was really good, so I bought the book and couldn't figure it out.
And when Koontz is good, he is really good, but when he's bad, he's horrid. I love Watchers, and Lightning, Intensity, Twilight Eyes. If you haven't read Lightning, it is fascinating.
@@julianaadams5751 I've read all Dean Koontz older books and my faves are The Face, False Memories, Sole Survivor, The Bad Place, and The Frankenstein series is awesome!!! Stephen Kings The Stand, Destination, The Shining and now Dr Sleep are my favorites and I read these books multiple times. Check out King and Straubs series they wrote like 2 or 3 books to it called like The Black House if I remember, its an excellent story. Never got into the gun slinger series and didn't like movie.

I will be honest, I have not read one book of his. My son always loved horror and scary movies. He somehow conned me into watching 'The Shinning', although it scared the daylights out of me and after I got my body to calm down, I really loved it. Have watched a couple other movies of Steven King. Sorry about his injury on his walk. Just wish him the best and I will get back to reading my christian material.

As a constant reader, my favorite is, and always will be The Stand. I've read and re-read the book several times and have watched both movies with the first being my favorite.. I thought the casting was spot on, especially Tom Cullen. MOON.., that spells Tom Cullen!

My favorite all-time Stephen King work was my first, a novella called 'The Body'*. Read it when my young daughter was napping, lol. A long time ago but his style and ability to emotionally reach his audience? Phenomenal, I was completely hooked. My next favorite is 'The Stand'- the unabridged version. I've read so many of his books (The Green Mile is my 3rd fav) but these are the very best to me, IMO, I feel like I truly know the characters. *[The Body = 'Stand By Me']. TY, Mr Stephen King! 💖
The “Dark Towers” is my favorite. It’s so complex, the characters so engrossing, and mentions many other King worlds. But my first King novel was “It”. I majored in English lit. and I figured King novels were just junk reading, then one day I read a single paragraph of “It” in a text on writing and I became so engrossed I forgot where I was! I immediately procured a copy and have been hooked ever since. Definitely not junk. His mother was very wise to encourage him to go to college.

The Talisman is a literary masterpiece, they managed to both find their way into a parallel world that intersects with ours, and take us with them…down to the smallest details.
Steven King always incorporates childhood, and women into his stories, which adds richer dimensions than simply a hero and an adversary. None of his characters are simple or two dimensional, we get to explore their depths and complexities…
and they become more than characters, they become friends, and fears we thought were hidden.🖤🇨🇦

Writes? The man must be the most prolific thinker of all time. Have you read a bad SK book? The first SK I read was Pet Cemetery at age 17 and it was invigorating. I was so frightened and excited that I couldn't put it down. I read all his books until they started interfering with my sleep and work. Then I had something to look forward to when I started reading more. The fact that great movies can be adapted from his writing is a testament of his talent as well. Mankind had not created an award yet to measure his success.
Everything he has written since Dreamcatcher has been mediocre at best.

My Mother knew that my love for reading had faded and handed me a copy of Night Shift and said " It will be easier read the short stories." She was right. I was a fan of Stephen King Books ever since. It was a common bond my Mom and Ii shared. She collected first edditons that I passed down to my children. I need to get three copys of Night Shift maybe they will start reading again.
I cannot deny the fact that the greatest horror author of the 20th/21st century who has brought me personally much happiness with his amazing novels and movies! My fave is Salem's Lot! Best book/movie ever in my own personal opinion! 👌
I was dumbfounded when I met him many years ago at the Bangor Maine library but it was worth it plus I have been a huge fan of his books and movies, thanks for sharing this it was awesome to watch and learn about his life. Can't wait until he puts more books and movies out.

Thank you! Shinning is my all time Favorite movie! But his "1408" is also a favorite. Delores Clairborne, Misery; Storm of the Century, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption. Too many to count! I simply love Stephen Kings works, some less than others. His talent never ends and it always succeeds in a way, where all of us fans..just simply want more!

Years ago while shopping at a Bangor grocery store, a man looking at the paperback books was standing near me. I thought he looked familiar. Upon leaving the store I saw a fancy red sportscar with vanity plates with 3 initials S - K ( cant remember the middle one) then it dawned who he was 😊

There's probably only a hand full of his books/novels i haven't read yet and that's thanks to my mom and grandmother 💖💖💖 they both love horror and my grandmother LOVES to read. She's blind now so she listens to audio books now. She sends me a Stephen King book I haven't read yet for Christmas and has for the last 10 years now lol 🥰

My first novel was Cycle of the werewolf.
I was hooked.

When I read "PET SEMATARY" I was constantly looking over my shoulder at every little noise. It was and still is the scariest book I have ever read. I loved it (the book not the movie). My favorite movies of his are "THE STAND" and "The Green Mile."

My dad got me into to his films age 6 then his books at 8, i'm now 39 & have alomst all his books including His Bachman books & nearly everything hes done in films. Favorite book was Pet Semetary with Misery as a close second. Cujo was the most fun to read; my husband and I were reading it at the same time (sharing the book) while on vacation. That woman was stuck in the volkswagon for FOREVER! Whenever he or I would read past each other we ask each other, "Is she out of the Volkswagon yet?" It became our joke and now I know why it took so many chapters for King to get her out of there. 😂

King was there for me when i was 13 and bullied at school. I discovered his works and became a big fan and spent many lonely hours with his books. They became my friends. Still a great fan and much happier know. He was my life saver. I wish to be such a great writer one day.😁
The Long Walk is my favourite. His Bachman books are underrated. Misery was supposed to be a Bachman book...I can see why. The Running Man with Arnie is a lot of fun. There is a French version called The Prize of Peril. It's based on a short story that existed before King's novel. Still, a good movie.
I do like the Shining novel. I just prefer Kubrick's version. I don't hate the miniseries, it is what it is. And hey, King gave us the Best Marvel movie, Maximum Overdrive. I can't believe King regrets it, "Oh no, I didn't know what I was doing". No no no, you knew exactly what you were doing. The opening scene with his cameo and the AC/DC music were enough to give you a clue that hey let's have some fun. You get to see Gus from Breaking Bad in the arcade section. YESSSS a fave of mine too. Started reading King when I was 9. I think either The Shining or the Dark Half. I was hooked. But now that I know he's a pedo, I cant stand him personally. I won't boy his books anymore.

@@mindi7998 Sadly, my last one passed away last month, my little red and white piebald female Honey. The red guy in the thumbnail was my senior male, Joey, he passed nearly four years ago. I still miss him terribly. I'm left with one little red and white Chihuahua, a rescue who is now my only companion. But, you are right--you can't have just one! May you have many happy years with the best small dog breed out there--the Dachshund. They are the class clown, bossy and vocal about it, and fiercely protective of those they love. I was in high school when someone introduced me to the Dark Tower. I read the first two in the series... that's all that was out at the time, and then moved on to Cujo. That book was pretty scary. Great author. Stand By Me was great too.
Thirty years ago, when I was determined to learn English, my favourite books King, Koontz and Rice were my favourite novels… Proudly I can say that I read and enjoy very much the books of Steven King.. !

Can't choose just one story, I love & appreciate them all. I found Salem's Lot when I was 7 & I've been addicted to everything from him I could find. Carrie was my second & then I just stayed in the library from open to close. During the school months, I would have to sneak in & hide in the stacks. I had a horrible childhood, was well above average in my studies & therefore hid from people as much as possible. Thankfully, my tormentors had no clue what a library was, let alone that our part of the city had one!! It was a beautiful building. Looked just as impressive as any old time courthouse & held my passion within. I've created readers in my sister & her children & I can't wait for them to read Stephen King for themselves. I read his stories to them, but I skip the few bits of folk getting close & of course most of the cussing. They love The Talismn & The Black House. But they enjoy all of his stuff I've let them in on. Needful Things was very well received, but so was The Body & The Shortcut & Graveyard Shift. Like I said, I'm a complete King Junkie, no doubt, & I'm making more to show my love. I hope he never stops. Thank you, dude. You're Some Kind of Wonderful!!

There are others worth reading as well. As soon as I got a job, at 14, I visited the bookstores and bought 3 books every payday. I discovered many authors that I would buy whenever a new one appeared by them. King was one of them, and the most prolific, he was 18 when I started buying books, so for several years he had no books I could buy…but that changed. I’m glad the others were there for me as well.🖤🇨🇦

King was my childhood, I can't possibly pick a favorite. I read every single thing that he wrote up until the Gunslinger. I blew through the Stand (over 800 pages ) in less than a week. I was also reading all the science fiction greats. Apologies to King but the Shining is my favorite horror movie, even though I saw it when it first came on tv I knew there was a lot more going on under the surface that the grown-ups didn't catch.
I owe it to Kkng to learn about his life so thank you for this video!
King eventually came to appreciate Kubrick’s treatment of the source material, and admitted it was the better movie, while not adhering precisely to the book. For King, “the Shining” was the point, more than the falling apart of his main character, but it is a very subtle thing…not easily illustrated by words and visuals not everyone could see.🖤🇨🇦

This very relatable view into his humanity and brilliance seemed appropriately relevant to me. If you haven’t yet shared the life of Mr. Tom Hanks I would really enjoy your view. David Hoffman is also on UA-cam currently. He is also an intriguing subject. His works in documentary filmmaking was impressive to another young filmmaker growing up in the 80’s.
