Oh that made me tear up watching him tear up all these years later. Secretariat has always been my favorite horse. It was my dream to see him in person, and one September morning in 1989 I got to do that during my first trip ever to Lexington. I didn't know it at the time, but I got to visit Secretariat exactly four weeks to the day before they had to put him down. He was in his stall, and the nice old gentleman showing me around that day just told me that Secretariat had sore feet. I didn't know then what that would foretell. I got to pet Secretariat and even put my arm around his neck and hugged him and had my picture taken with him. They probably had him medicated at the time, because the gentleman said that if he was feeling better, Secretariat wouldn't have let me do that.
I was devastated when I heard the news the day he died, and I remember crying for three days afterward as if I had lost a loved one. I even sent a flower arrangement from a local florist to the farm for his funeral. That horse meant the world to me. Thank you for these interview videos.

1:29 You could see that Mr. Hancock didnt see Somethingroyal's Best Son as any ordinary race horse. The way his voice breaks remembering his last good bye, which happened 30 odd years ago, speaks volumes of how they treated and cared for their Stallions.
