- Is Lufthansa first class the best value luxury airline seat? I recently had the pleasure to fly on the Lufthansa 747 first class and in this video I will be reviewing this luxury plane ticket. I've had 1A on a Qantas 747 in 2009 during the GFC when Platinum passengers got moved up into First as they weren't selling First class tickets. My mate got upgraded to Business and sat in my old seat upstairs as a business exit row seat. Back then the First class bathroom had tiles on the wall and a porcelain sink.

It took me some years to accumulate enough miles to fly Lufty Business 747 upper deck. It almost felt like I was flying with a Private Jet since there were only a few passengers on the 2nd floor. I'm flying back to US from Frankfurt on A380 Upper Deck Business soon and just cannot wait. I don't care about the food or the drink, but just the flying experience!
I dont think you will be flying on a A380. All Lufthansa A380 are flying from Munich now.

How can you not like Cilantro..... I have flown on these planes quite a lot from Vancouver BC to Europe and Asia.. Was lucky back in the mid 90's to sit in the cockpit for a landing.... wow

I don't think any 1st class travel is worth what you pay.. The people rich enough to purchase it do not care about value for money, they care about ease and comfort and are willing to pay whatever it costs.
Not exactly lol. Just because you can afford first class doesn’t mean there’s no value for money or it’s such a small amount for them.
Mainly you’re just getting a comfortable reclining seat that’s all sometimes you can score first class for really good prices or get automatic upgrades as a card holder and you really do arrive feeling totally refreshed compared to cramped, upright economy for 12 hours.
How do you know ? Do you speak from experience ? But you are right, rich people fly first class because we can. But value is all relative anyway and who cares about what other people want to spend there money on.
The people I know who fly first class with any regularity don’t pay themselves, their companies do. You can bet that old mate here is writing this off as business travel.

I was lucky enough to get to travel in the 747 upper lounge business from Seoul to NYC. So quiet. Memorable.
As someone who wasn't flying in the heyday of the 747, I've been trying to find a way to get on one. My ICN to HNL attempt last March was thwarted by a late change to a 777, but I've managed to book a business class seat (FRA to YYZ) on a 747-400 which I'm unreasonably giddy about. I don't even care that Lufthansa business class is mediocre, I just want the experience of the 747 upper deck.
Also, I'm lucky enough to have been inside the first 747 ever at a nearby museum. But I somehow missed out on seeing the last 747 rolling off the assembly line.
P.S.: My mild 747 obsession was primarily heightened when the license plate randomly assigned to my car just said "00747." I took it as a sign.

Kym, Air France also uses Porsches Cayennes for the first class passengers at CDG. You should try it once. You’ll love it!

Airfrance La Première First Class is worth it as well. If you can fly on the A380 there are a mere 9 seats in the spacious cabin situated just below the flight deck. The 777 versions have enclosed suites, more private than the A380 open floor plan. The La Première lounge at Charles De Gaul is comfortable with all the amenities, a buffet and an elegant menu to order off, in addition to a well stocked bar (Kym's pleasure). While you are in the lounge the AF attendants keep on an eye on your flight time and boarding and will then escort you in a car to the plane where you are the last to board. Perfect.
Super. I love watching travel reviews too. Always wanted to try Lufthansa first in the 747-8 as well as the first class lounge.
Btw the caviar accompaniment is crème fraiche, I believe.

I know you slightly mentioned this in your video. But a fun fact about the 747 is that if you’re sitting in the front couple of seats in first class, you’re actually ahead of the pilots. Since the cockpit’s on the second deck!

Sony has announced that accessibility ( Lufthansa may not do on the flight ) will be rolled out across all their cameras. It seems that voice control will effect certain aspects of the camera. I remain sceptical, as background noise in crowded spaces could mean certain for the idea. This blog was filmed on a noisy aircraft whilst photos at the tracks would suffer the same fate ? Does this feature come on your new canon ?

Once you get over the nostalgia of the 747, the legacy noise is something else, when compared to modern aircraft such as A380/A350/B787.
However, First Class at a Business class seat price on a Middle Easter carrier - yeah, I would put up with the noise.

You met Gordon, I met him 6 years ago in Amsterdam, very nice guy, (used to be a) great singer,. he won a Dutch talent show years ago when he was still selling women's lingerie on the Albert Cuyp market in Amsterdam, and a very funny guy also. But he let's his 'love' life get in the way of his talent and personal life via Social Media) ... but that aside ....

Great video Kym, love the 747! My first business class flight was in the upper deck of a 747 in the late 90's. Question if you don't mind - you mention a few times you take sleeping tablets, what do you find works for you?

It's rare to see a Boeing 747 Passenger Jet these days. There are only a handful of airlines that fly them, Lufthansa, Korean Air and Air China. The last time I flew on a 747 was 10 years ago in 2014. I was flying Qantas from Sydney to Singapore on one of their six Boeing 747-400ER (VH-OEH), the extended range version.

LH like most of the European airlines seem to compete with the ME airlines on price, eg First for a Business Class fare. LH are generally terrific on the ground services but behind in many ways in the air.

Just a polite fyi, you are flying on a Boeing 747-8intercontinental, not a 747-10. Also the A380 is shorter than a 747.

The biggest difference between the 747-8 and the A380 is the noise in the cabin. You need noise cancelling headphones in the 747 to bring the noise down to the level of the A380.
Brilliant, truly " real", Lufty F class is great. Flew it years ago on 747-400. One thing, the first 747 flew in Washingston State , NOT "Washington" as you stated. The Allegris First is not yet installed on the A350. Not yet certified, thus postponed. But they have the new business (only two A350).

The 747-8 is actually longer than the A-380 😉
It's interesting to note that the last 747 was delivered AFTER the last A380, its supposed replacement.

I thought to myself... that is, until I took a better look (rewound + paused the video because it was just a fleeting just a 2 second still image you showed) and noticed in the bottom toast triangle there was a bite already taken out of it 😂😂😂. What? Couldn't wait to sink your teeth into the caviar and had "reassemble" the toast plate to take a photo Kim? 😅

Silly question, but as someone who hasn't travelled, is the food and drink in the lounges included in your ticket? Or do you have to pay extra for the lounge, or pay for each item?

A little bit of water,1 cube of ice and some leisurely sips would have make you savour the liquid gold without the huff. 😂 these are almost cask strength and concentrated with flavour so needs bit of a dilution and time to breathe.

@kym, some friends and strangers and I chartered a flight to Austin from Denver to the USGP! The others sat up front, and my wife and I slept in the rear bed! Due to "dynamic pricing", my wife and I paid $400US! My best deal ever! @Mile High Club to boot! 😂

flown 1st on EK about 50 times on A380 and 20times 777.both WAY better than that LH service if you ask me.
