The alignment looks very very good. No need to shim it. If you look closer you will notice that around 2 out of 3 screws more marker is left then anywhere else. In my experience it means that those two screws are tiny bit overthightend and usually all that needs to be done is to unscrew them by the tiniest moves possible like 1/12 of one full rotation. If that changes nothing give them another 1/12 of loosening rotation. Eventually it should it make it perfect :)
I don't own an electric grinder but, as a person with with some OCD (lol), the hassle seems unnecessary at the moment, the alignment looks good enough... you can always check again in the future and do it at a later stage if the performance is not on par with your expectations :)
I think your lower burr is not flat. if it was just tilting issue, the area on both sides should slightly touched but the ink was conmpletely clean. I also noticed the ink on the opposite side, 180degrees, was partly clean.
I have DF83. the lower burr is perfectly flat - no red spots. The upper one has even less reds than your lower one. BUT when I set zero on burr contact noise, I only get proper ground size on very low numbers- like 3 or 4 and the beans they just stuck inside half the time 😢 I see how other grind on number 23 or 20 - but I always get only 5-6 bars 15 sec turbo shots when the setting Is higher than 5😮 any ideas why this happens?? Please help😅
@@etnamecul strange. Are you sure you don’t have pour over burrs in? This is a very capable grinder and you should be around nr15 for an average shot of espresso. Check if everything sits properly inside.

Thank you. At the moment I have either Itamill or SSP MP for DF64 and standard burrs for DF83. I plan to do a lot of videos so we will test everything. What would be your vote for the first video: standard vs standard or ssp mp vs standard?
@@coffee_cneces you are right. I went over it to quickly but it is in this video for a moment. It looked very similar to the bottom burr. I agree I should have concentrated on that for longer.
I don't understand how you could even get the top dial / burr holder part off without taking off the dial indicator first. I had a 3d printed dial indicator on that was so tight and on the DF64 and couldn't get into the burr chamber because I couldn't get the damn thing off without risking scratching it up!
It will come off as one whole unit, so collar, top burr carrier, and dial indicator will all stay together. You can do it that way if you wanted to, no harm is done. Also when installing the dial indicator don't set it flush to the collar, leave a small space. I use 2 small shims and set the indicator with a little space between the two so it's not rubbing on the collar. Correction, this will not work with a dial indicator that screws onto grinder, I have only done this on a DF64 with a tight fitting dial indicator (no screws). Please take that into consideration and don't damage your grinder
@@brianharman82 I guess the DF64 and DF83 a bit different in that regard. Pretty sure you can't take off the whole top part on the DF64 without removing the dial indicator first, right? I haven't tried opening the DF83 at all yet. If it's not broken why mess with it, (well until I get SSP burrs to put in maybe!).
@@BensCoffeeRants You're right, I don't have my 83 yet it's on pre order. I watched a ton of videos before my purchase and I swore I saw someone do it on the 83 but it was the 64. Thank you very much. Looks like I was lucky with mine, some people complained about their alignment.
I would leave it for a few months to let them bed in, it looks pretty good to me, only you will tell in your cup as time goes on.👍😎🇬🇧
Thx. The coffee so far tastes great, definitely different than on DF64 and Niche.

You might be right. I hate aligning burrs. I sold it anyway but will be testing DF83V
I'd leave it Jack. Quite frankly that looks pretty good.

Yeah, not bad at all
@@mycoffeeshow111 have you tried the Lab Sweet Cast burrs in your DF83?
@@jackowens_ only HU and wasn’t convinced that they are that much better. I would love to try Cast and also MP but can’t afford everything.
Most people use dry erase markers, I wonder if Acrylic is better or worse, health wise, but hopefully no residue or particles remain.
If I think about all the things I inhaled/digested in my life, I don’t think acrylic marker will make any difference 😛

Hi Jacky, to my eyes they look good enough. For the comparison, it would be pretty neat if you could use the SSP Cast burrs.

It looked about the same as the bottom one. Do you think I should do something?

How is the residual paint dealt with?
You can either wipe it off or grind some coffee and it will go away.
