I had also given up on chip amps after being disappointed by TPA3116, TPA3255, and Infineon chip amps. Then I discovered RSL chip amp for $110. Now I am finally happy with the sound of a chip amp
I have the impression that for quite a while, although switching audio amps got more powerful they didn't really scale well from the flea-watt power Tripaths. The first time I fired up an Indeed TA2020 I vividly remember being wowed by the delicacy and 'space' it produced on the first recording I cued up, Talk Talk's _Spirit Of Eden._ The Indeed replaced a nice Rotel RA820BX4 integrated I'd been using for some years (which allegedly stays in class A to about 4+4W) and frankly the Indeed was just so much better at the 'late night' volume levels I tend to listen at. I tried out the more powerful TPA3116 (an SMSL) later on and wasn't massively impressed, if anything I found it left me less motivated to listen to music.
@@EliteRock low powered tripath is excellent for the right application. I have the Trends amp that 6 moons gushed over. TPA3116 is bright and forward…maybe happy on first listen but ultimately fatiguing.
So what is Roger's doing that all the others using the Infineon chip arn't. Most manufacturers use the Infineon approved circuit & layout. So is it solely the single-ended to balanced preamp, the opamps or configuration? Enquiring minds need to know!
@ good question. I tried the Infineon amp from SMSL (SA300) and it was harsh and sterile. RSL does reference a custom preamp stage so that could be the secret sauce.
Thank you for one more TPA325X chipset based amp review! A separate power on-off button is a plus to me. I don't like pressing volume control knobs on devices like e/g Fosi ZA3 or Aiyima A70 (Stereo version). Especially when there's so little resistance against unwanted rotation, like with the ZA3 in particular. - Switching my ZA3 on or off is some kind of "haptic annoyance" every time I have to do that. I even more prefer power switches (e/g Aiyima A70 Mono), rather than sensing buttons, to maintain the state of operation in case of intended power breakage.
There is double mono tpa3255 set on Ali that is good. Called zerozone or just unbranded. It has dedicated power supply, not a plastic brick. It looks pretty simply built, but that may be a good thing. You should try it.
@@D1N02 They definitely can sound good with the right pre. Buchardt i150 uses the NCORE 150 modules and they sound very natural and pleasant. These days though I prefer to use the I150 as a pre only to class a or a/b amps. I've yet to experience a class D amp sounding as good. The ones that maybe do costs way too much 😂
As Mr Cheap I had been weighing for a yearwhich mini amp to buy next.. Then 3 days ago picked up an Emotiva basx a2m stereo flex amplifier for $199. It's $220 now.
Are you thinking of reviewing the Wiim Amp Pro? It is also based on the TPA3255 but it has the PFFB implementation that the Aiyima A70 has. Great review of this little amp, thanks.
There are double TPA3255 amplifier boards . They seem to output 100W in 8 ohms and 200W in 4 ohm at 48V/10 Amps power supply . At least more power . I have two boards on order . Also I have a Bru5 or something , with TPA3255 and programmable DSP - there you can adjust sound to your liking from software , similar to Arylic H50 amplifier .
I never comment, even though I'm a long-time subscriber. However, I have to complain on not seeing any reviews on the Gustard x30 or x26iii recently reviewed on other channels. I value your review comments and observations. Let's hope you are able to review the latest two Gustard dacs. Thank you ahead of time.
Well, personaly i still prefer a solid build vintage amp like for example a Sony TA-F55 soundwise. And mind you those already had a switching ps in 1980. And you get a good phono pre (MM/MC) as a bonus on top.
AndyAudioVault quit adding to his donglemadness rating chart. You are taking a break from chip amps. Is digital sound reaching a plateau? Is "cheap" all the same or is cheap so good that REALLY good is crazy expensive?
I'm sure its a solid review but I stopped half way through when I realized what this was... The last thing the world needs is another featureless TPA3255 mini amplifier. And for F's sake these names..., if these manufactures had a better grasp of the English language I'd swear they doing it on purpose.

Very interesting. I love my a300 and find the RSL dull and unrefined.
I do use a J2 dac with sparkos which is a very smooth and deep sounding dac…
Please review SMSL Raw HA-1 also Aiyima A80

ZeroZone definitely brings the quality in a low quality market. Fosi's V3 mono wasn't for me. Maybe ZeroZone manages to sound more natural.
@wegardfjeld3789 I just bit the bullet and got two Hypex Nilai 500 Diy Mono blocks. No power or current concerns and very natural sounding.

@wegardfjeld3789 I've gone the other way. Class A pre-amp into D power amp.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. Is the sub-out fixed or variable on this amp?
The field gets a bit more crowded - and if there was a list of names that is totally unexpected for a speaker amp - "Cattle" is right up there!

How bout reviewing Ice power and Hypex amps coming from China.
He has been running Icepower mono amps until recently. They were replaced with the Topping B200's.

X26 III is coming. X30 not in plans for now. It's priced high for my budget, maybe loan sometimes...

@@shipsahoy1793 The Chinese "command" of English is really annoying.
Agree, these FunFi components, DACs and Amps etc, are not worth reviewing
There will be obvious exceptions that bring them to a new level.
