    I am sorry. He should not be in the HOF. There is a sign in EVERY locker room that clearly states the punishment in you gamble. Rose decided to ignore this. If you do not want future players to follow in his foot steps then the ban must stay in place. If you let Rose in to the HOF, what message are you sending? Do not worry if you gamble on the game we will eventually take you back. Not acceptable. I feel sorry for Rose. Great player and a good manager. Other peoples' issues are not the items that should be the basis of what gets Pete Rose in, but they are good points on what should keep people out. David Ortiz never broke any rule that states you will be permanently ineligible and either did Babe Ruth. Pete Rose did break a rule that states that and the way he handled the entire mess (that he created) has gotten him to where he is today...outside of the Hall of Fame. I think what people fail to realize is ( and I am a huge Pete fan and have NO DOUBT he should be in as a player and MLB are just being Pricks...which they have a long, rich history of doing...the reserve clause, ban on Black players, hiding steroid use to make big $$$ then taking a "Holier than thou" attitude and punishing the same players they co - erced to take P.E.D.'s ) even betting ON your team is wrong, especially as a Manager. Baseball is a marathon...162 games. You have to make decisions on what's best for the team in the LONG run. If you have bets on your team in individual games. You might bring in a reliever that needs an extra days rest, you might play some players that are tired , injured and need a day off. In fact you could possibly in doing some of those things get guys seriously injured because you need them to play to win your bet TODAY, as opposed to giving them the day off to have them for the long haul ! So yeah, what he did was wrong...but he did it as a manager and it had no effect on his unbelieveable numbers as a player. The man had 4,256 career hits ! That's AVERAGING 200 hits a year for over 21 years ! How many guys have more than 5 200 hit seasons in a career ? He is the only player with over 500 games played at FIVE positions ! He's also the only guy to be an All - Star at 5 different positions ! I saw him play...a lot ! Grew up in Cincy, saw my first game in 1970. While Pete may have cheated Baseball as a Manager...he NEVER cheated the fans as a player ! The guy had ONE speed...all out, all the time. When you watched him play you didn't know if the Reds were up by 10, down by 10 or tied ! If Pete had 3 hits, he wanted 4, 4...he wanted 5. And you NEVER saw the man NOT bust his ass down the line even on routine pop ups or grounders. And we all know you see a lot of that nowdays !

    Rose also bet as a a player. They have evidence going back to 1978 supposedly (MLB). Pete is an addict and never got help. • @roland7584
      @roland7584 2 роки тому +3

      The problem with this point is Rose broke a rule where he knew what the punishment was. It's not like he made a mistake one night and placed a bet on his team. He placed hundreds of bets on baseball for years. Pete Rose kept doing that knowing if he ever got caught he would be banned for life. The poster boy was Joe Jackson who had a Hall of Fame career too. What more did Pete need to see to know what would happen to him? Just because baseball signs a deal with the MGM, that doesn't mean they are saying "ok players go out and bet on our games now." It makes for an arguing point, but it doesn't mean much in Rose's case. Rose has only himself to blame on where he is, and his apologies are very shallow and he's still not truthful about it all.

Come on, let's use some common sense here. Is it possible that's true, yes, but is it likely? In my opinion he absolutely bet as a player and he probably made any bet that he thought would net him a monetary win. First of all - people need to realize we are only talking about an official declaration and bust of Pete Rose in the HOF. Pete is in the HOF in many ways: His bat, uniform, pictures during record-setting moments are all in the Hall. I say NO - he cannot be officially let in because he broke a sacred cardinal rule - in which all players know full well the punishment if they break the said rule. With that said - none of the steroid fools should ever get in - for the same reasons.

    • @roland7584
      @roland7584 2 роки тому +2

      MLB didn't celebrate him throughout the whole thing. He couldn't even get a job even though he could still hit better than 85% of the league. At worst case, he'd have been a great DH for the last few years of his career in the AL and would have gotten to 800 hrs. No one seemed to make as much noise for Bonds during that time but somehow Pete Rose is still a story 30+ years later for doing something that clearly states you will be out of baseball forever.

    Patrick just stated that Rose bet when he was a player, but there isn't any proof. So, how can he make that claim?

    • @roland7584
      @roland7584 2 роки тому

      He didn't make that claim. He said he believes he bet as a player but there's no proof. So he made no claim. The only claim he did make during that part of the clip was that he knew Pete was making bets through the same bookie as his. He didn't say he knew Pete was making baseball bets though. He only knew that he was making bets through the same bookie. The funny thing is though, there is proof that he bet when he was a player. The proof came out in 2015 when they disclosed a notebook with bets of Pete's from games from the 1986 season.

    Listen, Houston Astros kept their 2017 rings. Baseball is TAINTED (to put it in perspective, baseball is BROKEN). Pete Rose is a HoF. The stereoid era players should go into HoF then. Reinstated the status of Shoeless Joe. When I see justice served when Astros removed from the 2017 championship, then we talk about JUSTICE (Note: for the record, I am NOT a Dodgers fan).

Now everyone keeps moving the goal posts to convince themselves Pete doesn't belong in the Hall. Assuming he bet as a player because he did as a coach is irresponsible. You don't know. Can I assume coaches made less than players because they do now. When in the past most coaches made more than players in the past.

The difference between the best player in the majors and the best player in the minors is so small. We need heroes that played their hearts out. Gambling never affected Rose's play not even 1% negatively. Chewing tobacco is a lot worse.
