Stans father must have been so proud of him , at that time there was hardly a bigger star in the whole world , and now 88 years later in 2020 , laurel and hardy movies are still hilarious , the magic will never fade .
A few weeks ago, I bought the Laurel and Hardy 21-Disc collection of Laurel and Hardy for an elderly (82 yrs) lady who is a friend of mine, and, having enjoyed watching them, she has lent them to me. My father was born on 10th September 1918, and Dad's boyhood coincided with the glory years of Stan and Ollie's career. I'm sure the news that a new Laurel and Hardy film had been released would have caused great excitement and the date of its arrival in the small cinema in Burnham (Buckinghamshire), (admission 1d. - penny) would have been eagerly anticipated. I can imagine Dad and his friends going 'to the pictures' to see it on a Saturday morning along with the other films on the day's program. The longer L. & H. films would undoubtedly have been the main feature, but - in the early days, at least - their 'short' films would undoubtedly have been 'B' movies - i.e. shown (along with cartoons) as a prelude to the main feature. It must have been wonderful to have been able to watch the first showings of famous films from the earliest years of Hollywood, through it's 'Golden Silents' era - with actors such as Buster Keeton and Charlie Chaplin - to the advent of the "Talkies' , and gangster films of the 'Prohibition' era - the 'Roaring Twenties' - and the '30's - starring the likes of James Cagney, George Raft and Humphrey Bogart, and then the films from the W.W.2. period such as Casablanca (Bogart and Lauren Bacall) and Gone With The Wind starring Clark Gable and Olivia DeHavilland, along with a galaxy of 'All-Time Great' actors such as Errol Flynn, Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, etc., etc..from the Golden Age of the motion picture industry. In many respects, those were happier days in a world which, for all it's problems (not a few of Dad's friends would have lost uncles - perhaps even their father - in the Great War, and when he left school, aged 14, in 1932, the Great Depression was about to start) represent a simpler, more innocent era. In 1932, during Stan and Ollie's tour of Britain, Dad and his elder brother, Joe, caught the train from Slough to Paddington station, London, to watch them perform 'live on stage' (presumably in one of the theatres in the West End. (This wasn't the first time he had seen one of his boyhood heroes 'in the flesh' as, before the War, he had been taken to London to see Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show). It is amazing to think it was almost a century ago! It was great watching this footage of Stan visiting his parents; you could tell just by looking at them that they were lovely people. God bless them all!
He looked at Stan proudly but Stan looked at his father with adoration. He was so lucky to have them as parents but they were lucky too to have him as a son.
A Father proud of his Son . And a Son feeling good that he's making his Dad proud . Stan and Ollie . Two men who can still make the world laugh today . Thank you .
123Rockchild Yup, his father was Arthur Jefferson 1862-1949, he was a manager working for the theatres, e.g. managing leases. So that makes him far more educated than most for the time. DC
I had a tough childhood. Very rough and bad. My heart is touched by tenderness like this. Oh, to have had love like that from my parents: what a dream. You can see that love is the very basis for such a loving open generous great humor as Stan Laurel's. And imagine his parents. What pride and delight. This moves me so. - But I guess you guessed that.
Gail Jarvis This video has been on my favourites for a few years now. And for similar reasons to you,it is something I too adore to see. It is so genuine. The loving way Stan kisses his family is so touching. It is my go to clip, when I am feeling low. I wish you all the best in your life, and I hope you find a happiness that reflects what we see here.
And that's exactly the problem we're facing today......Instead of loving their children the new generation parents are too busy trying to be their children's friends.
Uncrowned Warrior U r absolutely right to comment like this. Only brain washed fools still believe that on camera and off camera are the same things. We are fed from early childhood that what we see on tv and (nowadays) social medias are how people really live there lives. If you have any molecule of critical thinking in your body, as an adult, you should know that it is not the case at all. It angers me how dumb and brainwashed people are. I should just watch videos and stop reading feebleminded comments like in this thread.
I always remember on Sunday morning watching Laurel & Hardy as a young boy. I just couldn't wait to see them. Watching this vintage footage is just such a joy. Look how happy they both were. And simply enjoyed life & each other's true friendship until their final day's.
Aside from the obvious pride, love and respect, Stan's dad looks like he shared a great sense of humor with his son. Thanks for posting this. Any candid tim on Stan and/or Babe is golden to me.
Wow.. what a treasure this is! And wouldn't Stan and Ollie be thrilled to know that their work will live on for future generations to enjoy through the miracle of UA-cam..
Yes, the relationship between father and son is remarkable ...true friends, loving friends, so natural and spontaneous.and affectionate are their interactions. How natural how genuine was the enjoyment of each other's company they shared...How many of us wish we might have known some small amount of such loving paternal involvement in our own lives?
I mean this was only 7 years off from the second world war. Nostalgia (especially for a past that wasn't even ours) can be a very misleading thing indeed.
Very precious piece of film! I have not seen this before. The love that's displayed between Stan and his parents is quite emotional. Thank you for posting this iconic footage.
The delight that can be seen on the face of Stan Laurel upon reuniting with his family is truly a wonderful sight to witness. It is a moment of pure happiness and contentment that brings joy to all those who witness it. There is something truly special about witnessing the reunion of loved ones, and seeing the joy in Stan Laurel's expression only adds to the beauty of the moment. It is a reminder of the importance of family and the deep connections that we share with those closest to us. Ultimately, the joy that radiates from Stan Laurel's face serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of love and the powerful impact that it can have on our lives.
Still love Stan and Ollie to this day, been watching the re runs for 50 odd years, never tire of them, they were simply the best. God bless them both, they made my childhood, and continue to enhance my adult life. Greatest ever.
What a sweet video! I have just been watching some Laurel and Hardy UA-cam videos and this popped up on my feed. How adorable! Laurel and Hardy are the original comedy double act. Everybody since has copied these two legends and they’ll never be emulated. Absolute respect to the greatest double act there’s ever, who are making me and my 14 year old son laugh nearly 100 years later. God bless fellas, and I hope you both are living a great life up there in heaven.
How absolutely precious the love they had for each other. I could watch this clip all day. People truly enjoyed each other and life was simpler. Wonderful times. R.I.P.

I know what you mean. My teenage boys have that kind of love and tenderness with me and they had a lot of stick for it from former schoolmates when they were in their primary school. I worked out that most of the kids that picked on them for it were from single parent families with absent dads.
A justifiably proud father. Just imagine, the entire world is suffering from the Great Depression and about once a month you go to “The Pictures” to see your son and his friend bring laughter to the lives of ordinary people. Everyone who you meet tells you how much joy your son has brought them. The best of gifts.
This is priceless footage. Such tender loving moments between a world famous son, father and mother. Stan Laurel was the greatest comedy talent ever...end of story.❤️🙏x
I still find it amazing, how a 2:30sec bit of film without a word being spoken and from nearly 90 years ago can bring so much happiness to little old me! Fab clip!
I used to live in Bottesford in Nottinghamshire. Stan Laurel's sister used to run one of the local pubs, The Bull. There were photos inside of Stan and Ollie visiting the pub when they came over to the UK. This could well have been in 1932. I don't know whether that piece of history has been preserved and I haven't visited for many years. If you're passing that way, pop in and have look and raise a glass to one of the our greatest comedians.
Interesting to see Stan Laurel with a regular and sincere smile instead of the goofy smile he used in character. Also with his hair combed in a normal (1930s style) way. Thanks for this video.
I think it is fantastic, wonderful and affectionate that look from Laurel to her father - and also the kiss on the lips that he gives to his parents. It touches me ...
Great footage. His Dad stands quite still with a fixed smile, but in those days most people would have only known that still cameras existed, movie cameras were a new thing, so people stood still thinking they were taking a still photo.
that's exactly right. in an interview, Stan's daughter Lois said her grandfather thought he was posing for a still photo. that's why he and Stan laugh so hard after Stan explains that they are posing for moving film footage, lol.
I've been reading through the comments and literally have goosebumps... Nothing but love and admiration!! Can you imagine being alive when Laurel and Hardy first started out? That must have been amazing. Watching Stan with his mom and dad made me laugh and cry. It's the same feeling I get when I watch Laurel and Hardy movies; every single time! 🧡🥴🎭
Nice to see a famous son getting along with his Dad. There seems to be a case with a lot of famous people where they weren't close to their parents or the relationships were strained at best because the parents believed their kid should be "something better" So it's pretty cool to see Stan and his Father just palling around
Imagine how proud AJ Jefferson must’ve been, seeing his son achieve the greatness he did. He probably saw it in him from the start. And though he isn’t seen in this footage, Hardy also came along on this trip to England and met AJ more than once. Having lost his own father when he was a year old, he considered AJ to be a surrogate replacement, just as he considered Laurel to be a brother. Hardy even introduced AJ as “our father” when the three of them made an onstage appearance. ❤❤
World famous No1 star, at the height of his fame, no crowds, no entourage, no bother, just a true English gent with his father, the utter class if this was so heartening, i never tire of the comedy of Laurel and Hardy.
I make a point of watching it now and again. Pure love. Such a life they all shared together, with Stan a little "comic boy actor" and his father managing theatres...such a long, wonderful history and family. They're all together in heaven now. Bless them.
@@gailjarvis2592 Yes, and don't forget Stan's natural mother, Madge Metcalfe, the celebrated theatre actress with a massive fan following. Sadly died in 1908.
Absolutely beautiful. Lovely people and Stan is the image of his dad. Unexpectedly touching scenes for the times. Different people, different country. What have we done?
When I lived I Santa Monica I used to go sit opposite his old apartment where Stan lived out his final days. It is ocean facing. I often would imagine him sitting there in the sun watching the world go by. I’ve also spent a lot of time at his final resting place - beautiful location which overlooks Warner brothers studios. Forget my hero!!
I think that Stan resembles his mom, much more than his dad. His dad's face is very rectangular, whereas his mom's face is oval, like Stan's face. Also, Stan's smile is much like his mom's. Stan and his dad do share similar noses and ears, though. Anyway, I'm glad he still loved both of them and could kiss them both in front of the world.

Nice to see a famous son getting along with his Dad. There seems to be a case with a lot of famous people where they weren't close to their parents or the relationships were strained at best because the parents believed their kid should be "something better"
So it's pretty cool to see Stan and his Father just palling around
Imagine how proud AJ Jefferson must’ve been, seeing his son achieve the greatness he did. He probably saw it in him from the start. And though he isn’t seen in this footage, Hardy also came along on this trip to England and met AJ more than once. Having lost his own father when he was a year old, he considered AJ to be a surrogate replacement, just as he considered Laurel to be a brother. Hardy even introduced AJ as “our father” when the three of them made an onstage appearance. ❤❤
Proud daddy....look at him ! Great footage
World famous No1 star, at the height of his fame, no crowds, no entourage, no bother, just a true English gent with his father, the utter class if this was so heartening, i never tire of the comedy of Laurel and Hardy.
When comedians had a soul.
Chris Manning you can't be funky, if you haven't got soul.
PRESSUREWORKS 😂👍🏼
When humanity had a soul.
When comedians were funny.
Tombo1230 you mean no comedians were funny before or after 1932 ?
So heart warming to see this. How times have changed, you don’t tend to see this genuine love between families any more. What a great era.
This is so charming. So much love being expressed, and adoring looks. Love it.
He really looked like his Dad. So touching! Stan has always been my favorite comedian
only comedian to make me cry while laughing. him and Mr hardy were before there time and such fun
More than wonderful, beautiful personality
I've never seen this before...thanks for uploading.
Genuine love and warmth. You can see how proud Stan's dad, a theater manager from Lancashire, was of him.
Stan Laurel was a genius of comedy I always loved him.
How lovely is this very rare footage ? Thanks for posting...
This is utterly lovely. Makes me laugh and cry.
Isn't it just wonderful? So warm and loving.
That was a man filled with love, and he sure had plenty to give.
Sweet! Genuine love expressed in this clip. 👍
The resemblance to his father brings a big grin to my face. Love it.
Stan's dad was a comedian too by the looks of it
Greatest comedy duo ever, beloved Laurel and Hardy
Stan's parents were in theatre both actors.
Yes, he had a comedy conjuring act as Bobby Baxter, kind of Tommy Cooper predecessor.
