This is amazing to think they had a performance in our Edinburgh play house so glad they got amazing welcome so wished I had been alive or any my relatives seen them I bet they would have awesome stories of this.☹☹😢😢✌✌✌💙💙💙
Such shame that Hal roach was such a vulture always exploiting these amazing men and never paying them as a double because it was cheaper to pay them separately.
I didn't know that Stan and Olli were so popular in Europe as early as 1932, thinking that this would only have been the case after their active career.
I can't express enough how much i love these 2. They are comedy platinum and you know they were something special when you can show a child one of their movies or shorts 90 years later and they are in hysterics.
Hardy's mother used to visit a clairvoyant in Decatur. When he was 13, she took her son with her and asked for a prediction. "One day he will be famous throughout the world" she said. In an interview later in life, Ollie said in an interview: "It's good to know my mother saw that prediction come true."
They arrived from Newcastle and went on to Glasgow. At Edinburgh Castle they visited the Scottish National War Memorial. At the Playhouse, Hardy made a speech, after which "Laughing Gravy" was shown. When they went to Glasgow, the press of the crowd at Central Station caused a stone balustrade at the Hotel entrance to collapse, injuring six people slightly. I found all these details in press reports on the British Newspaper Archive website.
This footage reminds me of the original The 39 Steps. There were the crowds, the scene at Waverley station, the striding of two men into stage at the theatre as if Mr Memory Man is about to be introduced (with the jaunty music mimicking the original), and somewhere springs from the crowds Robert Donat as Richard Hannay dodging the clutches of the tall coppers. Where was I? But seriously, this footage is splendid, it truly is. The swarm of the crowds to greet L&H in the flesh is quite moving in a way - they just about behaved, the crowds did, when you consider how few policemen were there acting as stewards. Probably L&H were not expecting such crowds! Maybe some folk back then might have sniffed at such passion for celebrities such as L&H - but in 1932, these crowds detected real (and highly talented) stars, and they arrived, the comic duo did, on their doorstep. It was not just a case of a light presenting itself in what you might say, in comparison to our times, a colourless world: these people loved Laurel And Hardy. And God love 'em all.
Niemand konnte sich der Komik dieser beiden entziehen. Stan und Ollie besaßen das seltene Talent, ein Lächeln in jedes Gesicht zu zaubern. Echte Meister ihres Fachs.
Wonder if there's any films of this but with audio ?. I remember my granddad went to see them at the 'Playhouse' - he was ex-military, no-nonsense type but when he talked about it you could tell he was an avid fan of theirs !!
3.38....stan gives a kiss to a swell looking gal ... Olly..."hows bout me?! Stan gives olly a peck on the cheek All is right with the world again. Just brilliant 👍👍👍
There are no additional casts besides Laurel & Hardy, such as Billy Gilbert, Edgar Kennedy, James Finlayson, Charlie Hall, and Walter Long. All these additional cast that I mentioned are also in the silent films in 1928 and early 1929.
Well "That's another fine mess you got us into"!! Superb. Such close friends. Just makes me smile. What better two comedians to have during The Great Depression era. Wonderful
Amazing the crowd's, now Edinburgh like that most weeks truly legends. Thanks for down loading, its great to know the meaning of the greatest came to bonny Scotland
It's sad that my grandmother never made it to the UA-cam generation. Should would be so thrilled to see these clips. She would tell me how they loved going to the theatre when the boys came out with a new picture. Love L& H Miss you gramma. Sweet memories.

From Glasgow. I never knew that Edinburgh people had a sense of humour. Well, you learn something new everyday. Well done Stan and Ollie bringing the best out of them.
They were the rock stars of their day.
Over 30 years before Beatlemania there was Laurel and Hardie-mania!

As an Edinburgh lad and a huge Laurel and Hardy fan, this is just magical to see.
This Michigander enjoyed this video just as much as one of their films. Not at all. Just kidding. It was great! Cheers!
Sometimes I feel this world is hard to live.but seeing Laurel&Hardly and their films and many more things, the world is quite interesting.
Two comedy giants bringing sunshine to the masses.
It's wonderful the boys got to experience the love fans world wide had for them.

Mature men with genius and not a bit of filthy language or insinuation. Their whole ploy was innocence. What joy they gave the world, those two men.
There was insinuation.
Define "filthy". Asking for a friend.
Well Stan often said; oh fiddle-faddle !!! Pretty racey language in those days !!
@@markharrison2544& a lot of violence

It looks like Stan and Ollie invented the first Beatlemania.
Oliver Hardy was quite a handsome guy. Had he taken more care of himself i.e. not over weight he could probably have been a leading man in films.
Well "That's another fine mess you got us into"!! Superb. Such close friends. Just makes me smile. What better two comedians to have during The Great Depression era. Wonderful
God the bit with the rose
Amazing the crowd's, now Edinburgh like that most weeks truly legends. Thanks for down loading, its great to know the meaning of the greatest came to bonny Scotland

They were quite shocked to see the crowds in Edinburgh and both had been quite emotional when they realised they crowds were there to see them.

Can you imagine any modern comedians getting mobbed by fans like that?
My mum was living in Edinburgh in 1932, she would have been 8 or 9, I wonder if she, or any of her family went to see them, I wish I had asked her, they're all gone now
The good ole times, it's all gone to hell in a handbasket currently
I noticed when it showed the door, they were little kids as door person. 🤔

They were amazed at the reception they received when they arrived in the UK...they had no idea how popular they were there

This looks like it may have been from one of their three post WWII tours. They look much older than they did in 1932.
1932 was not a tour it was a vacation.stan to see his dad, babe to play golf.
Wonder if Babe ever got to play St Andrews?
Yes he did, it was his main reason for coming over.
From Glasgow. I never knew that Edinburgh people had a sense of humour. Well, you learn something new everyday. Well done Stan and Ollie bringing the best out of them.
Photobombing (near the end) before it ever existed!
