Denis won me right at the 1st pick. Agree 100% although I find the cinematography of "Rouge" mesmerizing as well. Kieslovski Trois Couleurs is among my top 5 of all times (also, Denis was on point about the way Kieslovski filmed women). And then Le Salaire de la Peur has a special place in my heart, thus his pick put another smile in my face. And then Von Trier's Europa and Fellini's Satyricon. If it was not enough, he closes picking one of my favorites Kurosawa movies (if not my top favorite). I was tired one evening and wanted to watch a movie. I had seen Rush Hour 1-2 earlier that week and wanted to continue with the fun action. I clicked on Sicario and thought I chose the right movie for the occasion, some American/Mexican cartel action. After the first scene I realized that this wasn't some cheap action and that I'd better focus. I saw it the next day instead and was totally mind blown. It is one of my all time favorite movie experiences. Love the uncertainty of that movie as well as its societal critique and experimentation with sound throughout the whole film.
Kurosawa is no surprise. The way Denis embraces silence and long shots tells the tale of that influence. Truly, Denis is the director Nolan thinks he is.
Thank you Denis for being my gateway into the work of Ingmar Bergman. Ever since I heard Denis cite Bergman’s “Persona” as one of his favorite films, I checked that film out and got sucked into a lot of his filmography. Oh my god finally! Have been waiting for this guy to enter the closet for so many years 👏👏
I was tired one evening and wanted to watch a movie.
Kieslowski's Blue was recommended to me and I wasn't disappointed. I'm glad I have already seen and loved his recommendations. Great list.
When he breaks into French you know he's getting real. A modern master, reinvigorating sci-fi, with chops in standard thriller
This was beautiful to listen to.
Kurosawa is no surprise. The way Denis embraces silence and long shots tells the tale of that influence. Truly, Denis is the director Nolan thinks he is.
Nolan is much better lmao shut that noise up😂😂
No he isn't lmao @@chrisfoy6034
Great recomendations, my favorite collection until now!

The sense of horror in Fellini's _Satiricon_ made Denis Villeneuve forget how to speak English.
It made him go "Sacred bleu where is me mama?"
@@johnwayne8494cut it out tony
@@johnwayne8494 Sacrebleu* and no one says that. It s a 17th century old word.
@@phantommagnolia I feel like you haven't been to rural Quebec
@@phantommagnolia im french canadian and i say sacrebleu quite frequently tbh
Thank you Denis for being my gateway into the work of Ingmar Bergman.
Ever since I heard Denis cite Bergman’s “Persona” as one of his favorite films, I checked that film out and got sucked into a lot of his filmography. Some of the most deeply personal/reflective films I have ever seen. I would say “Fanny and Alexander” is my favorite Bergman film.
Blade Runner 2049 feels like it was made just for me.
Every time i watch that movie im like ,thats literally me
I cannot believe I actually saw this guy a year ago.
I'm not kidding, he actually made a surprise introduction during a Montreal screening of "Dune part 1." EVERYONE was blown away by his surprise appearance.
Been loving this man’s work for awhile and he’s definitely a big reason I’ve been finding more appreciation with the “art” that is Cinema .
Bladerunner 2049 is still for one of the greatest sequels ever done .
A historic Criterion closet in the making! Just a compelling and fantastic filmmaker on every level. Love how he speaks English and switches to French. A boss move.
His movie Incendies was awesome 👍
