Dune became such a masterpiece because Denis had full creative control. Very few directors get to do that anymore. Nolan and Villeneuve are two of a very few select filmmakers who will hopefully bring us out of the formulaic, second-screen, algorithmic movie epidemic.
They both love large productions. They love the theatre experience. It’s no surprise to me that these two get along so well. They are very similar in styles.

This is great! I get that Denis was trying to honor Herbert by using Chandi but I can’t help but connect more with Gurney’s pov. I can recognize the road Paul is walking down but I want him to get his revenge.

The director's choice or mistakes? I say mistakes because it happened twice. Piter was never referred to by name in part 1. It's filmmaking 101, a character must be introduced by name, in writing or verbally. Think of a film where none of the characters are referred to by name. I can't think of one reason a director would not reference two speaking part characters by name.

As a fan oif the books i think the small changes improved the story and even brought Dune closer to Heberts actual vision he clarified in Messiah. Chanis changes in particiular were fantastic so far, the only question is ofc how they will fit the changes with the further messiah story.
