@@hay_bail1 The beautiful music in the opening sequence and in the last scene is indeed Max Richter's "On the Nature of Daylight" but the rest is the soundtrack made especially for the film by Johansson (and it is also beautiful and trippy !!!) :)
Arrival changed my perception of life, love, and grief during a time when I really needed it and now I have an Arrival Tattoo so grateful for the love these two poured into the film.
Yes !!! :) My favorite all time movie is "Close Encounters of the third kind" but "Arrival" is still for me today the most accomplished and profound and haunting and beautiful and moving Sci fi film of the 21th century !!! :)
I personally think Denis should have won something. it was an achievement in sci-fi filmmaking. credits to the novel writer ted Chiang for the source material
The first scene, anywhere and any time I watch it, always brings me to tears. I knew when this happened the first time I was about to witness something unforgettable.
The film begins with the semi-circle of the lecture hall and develops into the circular hallway she walks in the hospital, in part suggesting Adam’s character’s journey and understanding time. There’s so much more to the film than the CGi, acting and script.
An absolute masterpiece! The short story is very different but equally wonderful. Amy's performance in this is so beautiful, full of humanity and empathy, very apt for a field linguist.
this movie was a masterpiece. my second fav sci-fi of all time, after the matrix. never seen an alien/sci-fi movie be made that way. real, mature, gritty, philosophical, introspective, and beautiful
Everytime I rewatch Arrival, it ends with me crying my eyes out. One of the best sci-fi movie ever made and one of my favourite movies ever made, thank you Denis and Amy! ❤
I remember when a new movie theater opened in my town (Ukraine) and I saw a poster for “Arrival” on the door of my college. I didn’t go see the movie then, and I still regret it.. But I went to see Blade Runner 2049 and it was extraordinary! 🖤
Pretty sure she's referencing the nightmare she experienced while working on "American Hustle". Working with such a classy guy like Denis must have been a breath of fresh air for her.
The fact Emma Stone won for a performance with music she refused to perform live at the Oscars tell you everything you need to know. ‘Here’s to the ones who dream ‘ Ridiculous!!!
Thank you so much for doing this Vanity Fair ❤️❤️❤️ They're both so deep and truthful and close to their emotions, a wonderful and inspiring pairing that we couldn't dream of but had the immense pleasure of discovering through one of the most impactful movies of the 2010's. ❤❤❤
Always felt that Arrival cheats by having Amy Adams (who was middle-aged) somehow look exactly the same in flash-forwards that supposedly take place 15+ years later. Kuleshov Effect doesn't count if you're actively fudging details to trick the audience.
Easy way to reconcile it is that we are seeing the memories through her eyes. Could be her inserting her current self into the memory sometimes like how when you dream of childhood memories you sometimes accidentally view it through your adult self.
I'm still pissed she didn't win the Oscar for Arrival, a transcendent performance
Yeah wtf who won instead?? I'm gonna go all Kanye on that bishhh rolfmao
I’m still pissed she wasn’t even NOMINATED. Insane.
wasn't even nominated! She should have won for The Master as well
@@wickeddude1263lol 👍
I felt you. Since then i dont watch that award anymore
I’ve shown so many people arrival and always love the moment when they realize what’s happening. Such a great reveal and played amazingly by Amy.
I’m so dumb I didn’t even understand there was a twist
R.I.P. Jóhann Jóhansson. His score took this film to another level.
I thought it’s Max Richter? On the Nature of Daylight.
Mandy couldn't have been the same without his music
@@hay_bail1 The beautiful music in the opening sequence and in the last scene is indeed Max Richter's "On the Nature of Daylight" but the rest is the soundtrack made especially for the film by Johansson (and it is also beautiful and trippy !!!) :)
Was just about to mention this! glad I'm not alone in my appreciation for the score.
Arrival is unforgettable, one of my favorite sci-fi movies ever!
same
*Villeneuve mumbling "hello amy"*
Subtitles: [Speaking in foreign language]
no but i think he says "hola madame" 😂0:17
I lost count how many times I rewatched this movie. Seeing them together again is so wonderful. Hope they would team up one more time!
Same here. It's one of my all time favorites!
Yes!
"Une force tranquille" is the perfect way to describe Amy Adams. She absolutely deserved the Oscar for Arrival. Breathtaking performance.
Arrival changed my perception of life, love, and grief during a time when I really needed it and now I have an Arrival Tattoo so grateful for the love these two poured into the film.
Tell Denis.
I actually think she's one of the most beautiful people on the planet. And she's a bloody brilliant actor.
Arrival is one of the greatest sci fi dramas of all time
Yes !!! :) My favorite all time movie is "Close Encounters of the third kind" but "Arrival" is still for me today the most accomplished and profound and haunting and beautiful and moving Sci fi film of the 21th century !!! :)
She should have won an Oscar for Arrival
Homegirl don’t even get NOMINATED. Truly one of the biggest snubs in recent memory - if not maybe ever.
I personally think Denis should have won something. it was an achievement in sci-fi filmmaking. credits to the novel writer ted Chiang for the source material
The most incredible film and most incredible actress!
I need those two to collaborate on a movie again
The first scene, anywhere and any time I watch it, always brings me to tears. I knew when this happened the first time I was about to witness something unforgettable.
RIP Johann Johansson 😢
My favorite sci-fi movie ever. The most clever take on language, time and extraterrestrial life.
Even with such a great filmography, i still think Arrival is Denis Villeneuve's masterpiece.
Finally , a reunion. Arrival is one of my top four movies. Love amy adams❤
The fact that these two don't have their Oscars yet is a crime
Villeneuve doesn't miss. he cares abt movies and it's unmistakably apparent.
The film begins with the semi-circle of the lecture hall and develops into the circular hallway she walks in the hospital, in part suggesting Adam’s character’s journey and understanding time. There’s so much more to the film than the CGi, acting and script.
Ehhh. Stretching a liiiiitle bit.
I can not believe that Arrival came out in 2016. It's almost a large chunk of time has gone missing somewhere.
Arrival's my favorite movie.
A fantastic movie all around.
Very thoughtful of them to avoid spoilers for Arrival! Watch it if you haven't yet.
She is wonderful. How can you not love her.
One of my favourite films of all time. Amazing book too, for those who haven't read it.
An absolute masterpiece! The short story is very different but equally wonderful. Amy's performance in this is so beautiful, full of humanity and empathy, very apt for a field linguist.
Arrival is criminally underappreciated. Shame how many people passed on it because it was high-concept sci-fi.
Wow, they were so sweet and tender with each other. It's genuinely heartwarming.
I want to tear up just seeing this team up. Arrival is one of my favourite movies of all time, these two knocked it out of the park 😭🥰
Arrival and it's film score are my favorites. Love these reunions!
The idea of Denis Villeneuve doing Skyfall at a karaoke bar cracks me up lol
One of my favorite directors of my generation. Villeneuve and sci-fi movies are like peanut butter and jelly.
now i’m all emotional
One of my fav movies. Always on my top five movie recommendations
this movie was a masterpiece. my second fav sci-fi of all time, after the matrix. never seen an alien/sci-fi movie be made that way. real, mature, gritty, philosophical, introspective, and beautiful
Everytime I rewatch Arrival, it ends with me crying my eyes out. One of the best sci-fi movie ever made and one of my favourite movies ever made, thank you Denis and Amy! ❤
I still think Arrival is one of Amy’s best performances. It’s a shame she didn’t get an Oscar nomination.
Wow: “You own her now”. So powerful.
Almost 10 years after its release and I’m confident to say that “Arrival” is young MASTERPIECE.
Such an amazing movie with beautiful messaging, I have an arrival tattoo on my leg !!
Arrival is one of my favorite movies. I'll watch it again tonight.
One of my all time favorite movies.
Vanity came bearing gifts or what??? Love these two and what a masterpiece Arrival is
She deserves an Oscar for this movie!! Justice for Amy Adams!!!
Vanity Fair somehow always has its fingers on the pulse of pop culture. Excellent video idea!!
SHE NAILED ON THIS MOVIE
My goodness, this woman is aging like a fine wine. Just so gorgeous.
One of my favorite movie !! Fantastic
It's crazy to think an actress of this caliber still does not have an Oscar
Beautiful film. One of the most emotional science fiction films I've ever seen
American Hustle made me have a crush on her, Arrival made me love her acting
one of his best ! I love Amy Adams
A really REMARKABLE film!!
Wow, two of my favorite people in the world!! Oh, Amy, tu es si belle..!
I love Arrival! It’s a favourite!
I hope this gets a 10 year anniversary re-release in theaters.
Amy e A Chegada deviam ter ganho o Oscar de atuação e filme de 2016. Essa é a verdade!!!
The film should have won best film that year. It no doubt didn't because of the "sci-fi" tag attached to it. It was the best film that year
One of the most unique, beautiful, poetically underrated sci-fi alien films of all time in my book.
I remember when a new movie theater opened in my town (Ukraine) and I saw a poster for “Arrival” on the door of my college. I didn’t go see the movie then, and I still regret it.. But I went to see Blade Runner 2049 and it was extraordinary! 🖤
Aaahhhh one of my favorite movies!!
I Always Had A Celebrity Crush On Amy Adams And Arrival Is One Of My Dad’s Favorite Movies Because He Loves Sci-Fi Movies
this means everything to me
Pretty sure she's referencing the nightmare she experienced while working on "American Hustle". Working with such a classy guy like Denis must have been a breath of fresh air for her.
The reunion we knew we needed.
Yesss ty vanity fair team
Summary of this interview.
- Amy: Oh you're great!.
- Denis: No, you're great!
This and lady in the water give me hope
Mutual Admiration Society!
My favorite movie ❤
Very well shot
Amy Adams as Jessica would have been the ultimate cast.
Perfect match
IM STILL NOT OVER HER OSCAR SNUB
Beautiful ❤
The fact Emma Stone won for a performance with music she refused to perform live at the Oscars tell you everything you need to know. ‘Here’s to the ones who dream ‘ Ridiculous!!!
I would listen to Denis Villeneuve ASMR.
No freaking way it’s already been 8 years… 🤯
I’m still pissed she didn’t get a Oscar nomination for arrival… she was so amazing
0:51 which film is she talking about? Nocturnal Animals? Superman? Justice League?
I’d guess American Hustle… w/ David O. Russell
It's gotta be so awkward having to be filmed in a scenario where the structure is basically to compliment this other person
her begging for another job 😭😭😭 she needs that oscar badddd
Why's the title make it sound like they were kept apart
Marketing on point oh the timing lmao
Arrival reunion
Arrival is to Denis what Interstellar is to Nolan
She’d make a great corrino…. 👀
Parents

Yay
Why wasn't her Jessica Dennis?
my brain: wow. what a gorgeous and moving conversation between such intelligent and self-composed artists.
my heart: hi mommy and daddy i love you
It’s the 18th? Billie
Those aliens got me feeling something… once I saw them mangrove tree looking legs, I was intrigued.
I love the movie, i like these two, Dennis especially, but this interview is so hollywood...
It's a Vanity Fair Interview. 🤦♂️
I would love to see Denis do a Star Wars film

Well the film came out 8 years ago and she looks the same....let's see how she looks in another 7 years lolol it's an interesting point though!
i had no idea these two were together
