The english patient has one of the most beautiful soundtracks i've ever heard
RIP Carrie and Debbie...
"Emma" has such a wonderful soundtrack. So glad Rachel won!
This was a history making win.
Rachel Portman was the first woman to win an Oscar for best original score.
not original...but musical
one of the best scores ever, the english patient!

I don't understand how The Hunchback of Notre Dame lost the Comedy/Musical Score Oscar... It was the best of the category!!!
The best score by far was "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"
A really surprising fact is how Carrie Fisher was actually one of the head writers for this year's show (69th Academy Awards of 1997) with Hal Kanter and Buz Kohan. She contributed material for the 74th (2002) and was head writer again for the 79th (2007). She truly was one of Hollywood's favorite in-demand, though mostly uncredited writer.
A woman winning Best Score Oscar... that's very rare!
She was the first woman to win for a completely original, all-orchestral score, the second to win this award in any capacity!
This was the first time
The Hunchback of Notre Dame should've won. It's Alan Menken's most underrated score.
I like most of the songs but I can see how people wouldn't vote for it. The score is very different compared to The Little Mermaid, Alladin, Pochahontas and Beauty and the Beast. It's not as crowd-pleasing and "pop"y. Songs like Hellfire, Out There and Bells of Notre Dame are a bit more musical-ly. Some might not find that appealing to their ears - me included. It's when you listen to it multiple times and understand the lyrics that they start to grow on you.
What a comedic duo! Debbie was hysterical but she was such a proud mamma for a second! LOL
Carrie and Debbie... (eyes start watering) :'-(
Can't believe they're both gone now. Thought of this clip when i heard the news.
Been looking for this clip. Enjoyed the banter btw Debbie and Carrie.
Even in old age, Debbie Reynolds still looked very beautiful. R.I.P. Debbie and your daughter Carrie.
RIP Carrie Fisher
And Debbie Reynolds
RIP Carrie Debbie and Gregory
The Hunchback of Notre Dame should have won best score, but I feel the Academy didn't want to give him a 9th Oscar.
They did not feel the same way for Walt Disney, #22Oscars
The score is phenomenal. It definitely should have won. What were they thinking?
I don't care how many Oscars Alan Menken has won, he deserved the Oscar for Hunchback. It's his most underrated score from Disney imo.
Nah, if they cared about quantity, they probably wouldn't have given him 8 in the first place.
@@laurajones1773 Ironic that he does a score for a less popular Disney animated film with Pocahontas and gets an Oscar for Best Original Score, yet he does another score for another less popular Disney animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame and loses the Best Original Score Oscar to Emma.
I know describing both Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame as less popular sounds derogatory, but I’m not trying to bash those films. They’ve both got their own cult followings, it’s just when I say “less popular”, I mean they’re not on the same critical or financial standard as the previous Renascence films as Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King.
James and the Giant Peach and the Hunchback of Notre Dame were both nominated for Best Original Score at the 1997 Oscars.
Hunchback has one of the most grand scores in cinema. Definitely a snub. Should have won over anything that year.
IKR.
No wonder where Carrie got her sense of humour from, like mother like daughter
Alan Menken not winning this is probably the worst decision the Oscars ever made.
I know, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is one of the greatest scores ever written.
+MrBracegurdle1 It was a disappointing decision on their part, but their worst decision is giving Chicago the Best Picture Oscar in 2002. That film was a terrible piece of shit.
Psycho and Vertigo were definitely snubbed for score which is ridiculous. Also, First Man should be nominated and won for score instead of Black Panther.
I think the Academy thought he had one Oscar too many. He had won 8 in just 7 years. Still think "Hunchback" was robbed big time, nonetheless.
@@darthstarkiller1912 Nah, if they cared about quantity, they probably wouldn't have given him 8 in the first place.
2 Oscars for dramatic/comedy scores?..I never realized they did this.
Emma and The English Patient has great music score.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame's score is way better than Emma's score.
@@laurajones1773 That's your opinion. My opinion are better than anyone else.
They should bring back this category if they have two screenplays their should be two scores
I miss Debbie and Carrie
Where is the Oscar for FARGO??????
Danny Elfman should have been nominated for "Mars Attacks!".
The First Wives Club and Shine should have won hands down
Should have been a tide Emma with Hunchback!!!

I ain't even heard of The English Patient.
Anyways, Hunchback should've won.
You didn't hear of "The English Patient"??? Well, that says a lot of YOUR level, not of the score's.
Emma should not have won!!
I remember Hunchback more.
