Video clip from 1985 'Boston, Mass' album These guys, in my opinion, where highly underated so I've done my best to put good quality videos up on youtube of them.
I remember hearing this song driving into Boston seeing the skyline as the daylight fell, listening to BCN and thinking as this song blared in my car, that leaving LA was the right decision. That was over 25 years ago. Dan Zanes has done so much good for humanity. I'm glad I was listening to this song when I decided to make my home in New England.
Used to listen to this song on a am radio in a DOC work truck cruising around McNeil island repairing the roads for 4 months this song was on each and everyday right around 11 am before lunch.
***** If you find one ***** let a brother know cause I would love to cruise back to the days where the music was truly banging and You right I love those Old Tunes
James Bell jr. Yes, those were the day's my friend.. I like all Music from that era. Can't wait to check out. " Straight Outta Compton " Going tomorrow with the Wife. They'll be some Heavy Memories from seeing that movie.. Hopefully nobody will get Capped in the Ass while I'm there.. .. Ha, Ha.. Be Cool, My Brother.. T. B.
And yes, another underrated excellent rock n roll act from Boston, rock city! The Del Fuegos were GREAT along with 20 000 others bands that mainstream people will never know!!!
Oh my god. I work at a toy store and we play a lot of Dan Zanes albums, that's how I found about the Del Fuegos. I just looked them up on UA-cam on a whim, really. I can't believe this is the same guy that does all that kid's folk music! Mr. Zanes is certainly a man of many musical hats.
Helped set up the Del Fuegos when they played at Northeastern University in 1982 I think. They were so raw and awesome! My first exposure to Rockabilly. I used to see them at "The Rat" and then later at after hours loft parties where they would play for beer and cigarettes, etc. Band played every night they could. Hard working blue collar band that shoulda made it huge. Was amazed to see Dan Zanes face on a CD at Starbucks with Childrens music. Gravelly voice still sounds great. Miss the Fuegos!
Sure, I would add to this the Gun Club, dB's, Salem 66, Let's Active...the list could go on. But with the music of today, all of the 80s music is looking better and better...from the big pop stars, and the new wave bands that made it big, the classic rock bands that were still recording and touring, and the "hair metal" bands, all of them look so much better in comparison to the music today.
I was Working in a Record Store when this was Released , We Got a Promotional Copy of there Album , I Played it Alot In the Store this Song Must Have Charted on Billboard! I Never Forgot this Song, I Play Guitar I will Learn it and Play it!
Great song....they kick butt, which is why it amazes me I never heard of them before. I only found them now because my son has 3 of Dan's Kids albums which we all enjoy alot. I had no idea he had a previous career as a real rocker. Thanks once again to UA-cam.
Great song! This song should have been huge back in the day. Listening to it makes me wish we lived in a simpler time. Makes me sad to think in the years since this song came out, things in our world are so much worse.
Blessed to be young and alive in Boston during these times! No cooler band back then. Nice that we also got Dan Zanes to entertain our kiddos in the early 2000’s too! Thanks Dan. Love the Del Fuegos!
Sir Morgan's Cove Green St. Worcester around 1984 or 1985. We were packed in like Sardines. Stones played there in 1981 calling themselves The Cockroaches.
I saw them back in 85 at St. Anselm College in Manchester NH. They warmed up for the Kinks. The lead guitarist got hit with a golf ball and stormed off the stage. I remember the crowd yelling "you suck we want The Kinks" and they left the stage. It was crazy, there were no seats and we almost got crushed against the fence that separated the crowd from the stage.
Boston was killing it at this time: SSD, The F.U.'s, Gang Green, Negative FX, DYS, The Dogmatics, The Proletariat, Jerry's Kids...I could go on all day. ;)
I lived in Worcester when the Stones played. Turned the city upside down. For those that haven’t been there (which is almost everyone on YT) it had a capacity of 200 tops. Oh yea, saw Bad Brains there a few years later :)
saw them 87 with tom petty and the heart brakers and the gorgia satellites they opened then satellites then petty came out thanking every one for all the free gifts for his new house as he had a house fire he said be safe wear a condom and petty show started delfugos did a lot of stuff from wear it like a cape tour
Hearing this music connected some synapsis and made me recall that when my teenage daughter was little, like 4 to 6 years old. One of her favorite kids music singers was Dan Zanes. Zanes was the front man for the Del Fuegos and became a kids music icon during the early 2000s. At this time he was touring at small venues throughout the Northeast and my wife and I brought my daughter to see him in Oneonta. After the show, he was cool - signed autographs, posed for picture and such. My daughter was apprehensive at first but as the theater cleared out, he motioned for her to come down. She went and sat down next to him and they just chatted for 20 minutes.
Hopefully it's never too late for this party. Lol. But yes these guys were excellent. This and I Still Want You are imprinted on my brain for life. Great stuff. Typical 80's low quality vids and they looked like kids themselves. Peace.
I had this cassette when I lived in the USVI back in the 80's and loved it a effton. Forgot all about these guys. Then I heard this on Underground Garage this week and I had to search it out. And here's my reward!!!
I went to Concord High with Dan Zanes. Was just typing classmate names into Google for fun and was shocked to find he was famous! He was pretty funny, introduced me to Little Feat via the band t-shirts he used to wear.
What ratings? Are you disappointed they weren't on Top 40. Part of what makes these bands great is they were never "commercially viable" and we loved them. Almost everyone here had their minds blown seeing these guys live, that's all the rating they need.
Definitely heard this a zillion times on WBCN!! I had a '61 Corvette, top down, and crusin' all the strips with friends!! Sure did turn a lot of heads! Great cruising song... this, and green onions!!!
Never saw them live but they were getting lots of air play back in the mid-eighties when I was living in Boston working on the Mass RMV system. Great band!
Philly guy here- heard these guys & this tune while living in New England mid-1980s, damn good. Pretty strong airplay in New England, sorry it didn't break big nationwide.
I saw them with Tom Petty that same year in Houston. They were openers in a triple bill. Petty was great as always, but the second group sucked big time.
Finding this is so awesome 😎! I can't quit playing it! These guys deserved so much more air time! The riffs are fantastic! I wanna blast my neighbors out and hop up on the hood of my car and just shake my ass! I already have the tv on and the volume down....😊
@@steveoneill8100 Thanks Steve, sorry that took me so long to reply....having a hard time hearing my new electronic devices over my old Sony stuff that, well, works and sounds better than anything new I have heard in 20 years, and my speakers that are taller than I am seem, to block the neighbors yelling for me to turn sh* t down, so I am in my comfortable cocoon of good tunes, somewhat mind challenging tv, and just having way too much fun and loving every minute of it! Thanks for the memories! Grew up in NH just outside of Boston. WBCN was the benchmark back in the late 70's on!

Great memories of the Boston Music Scene.
Great song. Cool band too especially since they're from Boston.
One of the best from the 80s. Plimsouls, Cruzados, Smithereens, Concrete Blonde, Mason Ruffner.
and the list can truly go on....
Or add Meat Puppets, Replacements, REM, the Minutemen, Bodeans and X.

Too bad many 80s bands were short lived.
64 yrs Wild.....went to college in Boston, worked in Boston and Best of All.....PARTIED in BOSTON.
Hong Kongs in Harvard Square 👍🏿
I did RUN WILD! Wow Back In the Day! The Channel, BunRattys, ect... Still have this Cassette!
Driving trucks all the time from CT to Boston in the late 80's. Flying down the Mass Pike hearing this song on WBCN. Takes me right back there.
Charles Laquidara... bcn gone but not forgotten.
Oh man, you aren't bs-ing when you mention 'BCN and The Pike! lol love it
This song will still show up on WBLM'S A to Z!
Don’t forget seeing the video on V66
Such a cool song. Brings back a memory with this little angel I dated for a spell.
Still one of my favorite songs of all-time. Here in Mpls. 92 KQRS still plays this song.
One of the many gifts to Boston ❤

They totally rock! 💪✌
Saw them open for INXS at The Expo in Portland, Maine sometime in the late 80's
Love this song..the guitar intro is awesome!
WXRT (93.1 FM) in Chicago used to play them quite a bit. I saw them playing at a small club in Chicago in the 80's and remember it being a great show.

Del Fuegos are one of the best to come out of Boston. I loved them from the first time I saw them. At the Ratt, of course.
Saw them at some dive in Worcester, MA. One of my favorite live shows. We were packed liked sardines...and they rocked the house...it was awesome...
Nothing like seeing good bands in small venues - its the best
Sir Morgan's Cove Green St. Worcester around 1984 or 1985. We were packed in like Sardines. Stones played there in 1981 calling themselves The Cockroaches.
The slide near the end is my favorite part of this song. Great 80's band.

Del Fuegos definitely takes me back to the day. Just graduated high school and joined the military.
Best thing ever to come out of Concord, NH?
Once upon a time when Boston rocked...and you could see the Rolling Stones at hole-in-the-wall in Worcester.
Yes sir Sir Morgan Cove!!

Boston Mass is one of the finest rock albums ever made.
For me, this might be the 'quintessential' Del Fuegos song, it's what got me into them initially back in the mid '80s and I love it.
That Boston Skyline has changed so much! Loved the Del Fuegos!!
I just found this band after years-awesome,time to fucking crank it!!!!!!!!1
I saw them back in the 80s & they definitely ROCKED!!!
Besides the whole Boston thing , this is one of those almost perfect songs. Everything fits
I do. if there's an example of a perfect song, it's "Don't Run Wild"
damn....... been a long time. so many great songs out there, almost forgotten
