@@cookieprev5176 not true that's being cocky.. Look at Jacky Vincent he's the best guitarist there is in the metal scene and the most humble guitarist..
Avenged Sevenfold was always my favorite band since i was 7 years old, And to think about it in my mind i cant belive its been like that since 7 years old!
He isnt over rated, his skill and uniqueness speaks for itself. Avenged sevenfold is amazing in general, live they sound identical to the album. They are all great musicians are they not? Not just anybody gets famous.
I dont play guitar.. Nor do I want to...but damn this man knows what he is doing.....if speed alone would define you as a guitarist then batio would be unrouchable...I think its about how easily you play the guiyarwand create tunes that truly suit the emotion of the song...its musicianship... So yeah aside from van Halen(the beat it solo) I think this guy is pretty high up
I've been playing guitar for about four years at this point and I've been trying to sweep since I first started playing solos and I still can't do it. For me it's not that easy, and that's why I find this particular Gates solo rather difficult.
***** Nope. Not true. If a song is one note dragged for 1 minute I can learn it one second. If you're a really good guitarist, you COULD probably learn this in around 2 minutes. But you'd have to be Steve Vai good.
i cant agree on that, as there are guitarist like- Miles dimitri baker and lucas man from rings of saturn. i dont wanna list 100 different guitarists. but those 2 alone would rip synester to shreds.
Louis Porter I love Rings and Lucas Mann, but tbh the style they play and image they will never be commercially successful and as a result of that, will never have the reach Synyster Gates has. Synyster def inspired so many kids to pickup the guitar and start playing. Clearly on average more kids want to learn Avenged licks, and most likely will never hear about Yngview or Vai until they get deeper into guitar. He is def a modern day guitar hero which our generation and the next desperately need considering the steep decline rock and metal music have in the mainstream.
Now I understand why "real" metalheads talk shit about A7X on metal forums when people say that they're the best metal band... I'd never listened to them before (I don't really like metalcore)... That's the 8th Synyster's live guitar solo I've watched and I've also listened to many of A7X songs today (Afterlife, the beast and the harlot, etc)... He's a good guitarist, I can't deny it, and A7X is an ok band, but Syn is definitely not the best... There are many guitarists better than him (Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc)... Sorry but the guy is as overrated as the band!
Though I disagree that they are overrated, I can see where you come from saying others are better. This solo is cool, but not NEARLY as good as some of his other playing like the Afterlife solo. The Eddy Van Halen solo is absolutely fantastic and completely blows this one out of the water and Paul Gilbert is awsome too.
No, he's the best guitar player of this generation. Nobody can touch him. His talent is so raw and pure, and nobody can play the way he does, in the entire world.
devin lowden The best of this generation? LOL I can't say that he sucks... that would be stupid! He is a pretty good guitarist and he got his own playing style BUT saying nobody can touch him shows little you know about guitar playing! You clearly never listen to Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), Jeff Loomis (Nevermore) or Chris Broderick (Megadeth).... and that was just to talk about few guitar players of the same age bracket as him! I don't even want to talk about Dave Mustaine, John Petrucci and the others badass guitarists better than him! This is my opinion though... If he is the best for you, fine! You got your opinions and I got mine!
I was today years old when I learned he played this solo in honor of Dimebag. I’m assuming at least because this has a lot of Dime’s solos in it. Been watching this for over a decade too, pretty sure this is the original video I used to watch over and over. In fact I learned the intro on guitar (very easy) then it got to the solo and I was too overwhelmed.
EVERYTIME I come back to this video, all I imagine and is Syn and the Rev being driven down a street playing this, and every single rock n roll lover, every metalhead of the country parading after them...
2:25 that part is some of the fastest and cleanest playing ever. The whole solo is amazing though. Syn is not just a "typical metalcore emo wannabe" he is a genuine metal guitar player. Many people don't know this but Rex Brown of Pantera attended one of their shows and said to them "Your waving the flag now" and Metallica: "We are proud to call Avenged Sevenfold great friends of Metallica" right before Lars fucking Ulrich introduced them at Orion. FUCK the whiners. A7X is quality metal.
That is actually my favorite thing on whole youtube to happen. -_- It's a very common phenomenon, and I just love when people talk shit about other people without knowing the person.
This solo grew on me. At first I considered it a compilation of random melodies, kind of progressive melodic metal, like protest the hero. But he certainly mashes up a great set of riffs.
I was a keyboard player for about 3 years, a drummer for about 4 years and currently I'm a guitarist (I've played a bit over 4 years now), even though I'm not even 18 years old yet. Music is the most important thing in my life. I can easily spend 8 hours straight doing nothing else but listen to music and eat. I recognize a good solo, and this isn't one. Gary Moore - Empty Rooms live 1987 Stockholm, if you want to hear a good solo.
Look, Mr. Gates here isn't my favorite guitarist...but I'm not going to sit here and talk bad about him and stuff. The truth is, he and I are a lot a like. Why? Because he loves the guitar, and I love the guitar, he loves rock 'n roll, and I love rock 'n roll, his type of rock came from the blues (it all did), and I play the blues, but most of all--he and I BOTH love this thing, that we all are in this for, called MUSIC. True musicians don't put each other down. Rock on, buddy!
honestly if you want something pretty close, get Invader Pickups and if you want to sound almost spot on, do invader pickups with a sustaniac sustainer. My current setup is Black and White Schecter Syn Custom w/ Invader pickups and a sustaniac sustainer, 24 jumbo fret. I use both a Line 6 DT25 (Bogner tubes). And i am going to be ordering Syn's Hellwin Amp very soon. Hope this helps
