Play around with the fit some. You may need to run a second strip of one-wrap a little lower to prevent side to side wobble. Let me know how you like the setup!
Hey man I stumbled on your previous video about the 5.56 inserts and how you got them to work and honestly love the fact you did this for AK mags as well. Keep up the good content and this answered all the questions I had!
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not personally a big fan of the AK, but I had several people asking about the conversion, so I figured I kind of owed it to them to try it out.
cool video man,, took me awhile to get clarification on that cause i run AK. for my setup i took a dive on g-codes and those work really well for me. i would say they would be a competitor for the kywi's as a blind purchase if someone didnt have either like me (or the funds for T and A). a suggestion i wouldnt mind seeing a video in the same format as this with the g-codes and then and direct comparison. i wish i could help fund you but fortunately a comment like and subscription is the best i can do. kudos on the video (and shoot AK haha)
I'll take a look and see. I just got in on the last Haley order, so my next videos will probably focus on those, but I can add the G-Codes to the list.
I look on the ESSTAC web site, looks like they have a medium and tall length AK specific 7.62 pouch now, but their description doesn't look accurate as it states that the medium and tall length are both pouch is 4.3" tall by 3.25" wide"
Sometimes their descriptions don't quite match up, as they're constantly updating their site. On this page, it says the tall pouches come with tall inserts: esstac.com/7-62-ak-single-kywi-tall/
No worries, glad you liked the video. I wish I had a better answer for you on the Galil, but I'm not in a place where I could even get a mag to test right now.
Esstac kywiis are kinda the off brand Haley strategic mag pouches mp2 clip design kinda cool they do make am mag pouches but they don't recommend them for retention
@@sambamjaeger not really. The tabs on the mags just like to grab onto thinks. Unfortunately the best option I have found is the more traditional style. Chicom surplus is at the moment my favorite and frankly it was cheap lol, I got an SKS chicom rig and it has been great while training in it.
What would you recommend to secure 2 or 3 kywi's together in a spiritus micro? I saw that you said you recommended something in another video but I couldn’t find it? Thanks.
For 5.56, I recommend the kit from 8492 Nylon Works, but it is 5.56 specific. If you want 7.62, he is working on a 7.62 specific solution, but I don't believe he has it on the market yet. 7.62 mags are a little thicker than 5.56, and you might have an issue getting enough grip with the 5.56 kit. For 5.56, though, get the V2 kit and run with it. 8492nylonworks.bigcartel.com/category/spiritus-upgrades
I use original galil 556 mags and a spiritus micro so the mag is dimensionally similar to m4 mags but have the ak locking tabs on the sides, will I be able to fit 3 ak kywis on the spiritus? Should I try using 3 556 kywis?
I don't think you'll be able to fit 3 7.62 KYWIs in the Spiritus. You might be able to pull it off, but it'll be a tight fit. A Haley or RDR is better for 7.62. I don't have any Galil mags to test it with, but your wild card is going to be the tab as far as a 5.56 KYWI. I will say that a quick Google search, just looking at the top few results, doesn't sound very promising for the 5.56 KYWIs and Galil mags...
I haven't check those out yet. When I made the video, they weren't available. I'm glad they are now, though, because they should retain AK mags much better!
20-round AK mags? Shouldn't be an issue. And if you pick up the 5" KYWIs they have now, I'd bet even 30s won't be a big issue, although they might fit a little better in an RDR rather than the Spiritus.
I was just looking into this, thank you.
Glad it was useful!
Exactly what I was looking for buddy, just ordered 2 5.25” kiwi 7.62 inserts for my mk4. Thank you!

Esstac does make tall 7.62 kywii mag pouch
They do now, yes. They didn't when I made the video.

Also, great videos very informative, I just have extra questions because of galil mags being like a mix between AR and AK mags

I'm going to be doing some full-weight testing of AK mags in the tall KYWIs in the next couple of months to see how well they retain.
Nyet, ak mag pouch is fine
In mother Russia, green cotton and toggles carries you.
Looking at getting some haley strategic 762 inserts for my placard. I think it'll work out. Lol.
Did it work?

Have you checked out there 7.62 25rd kywi? it’s 5.25 in tall

Joel A I don’t have any experience with them either, just now getting into the belt set up world.
will this fit g3 mags too?
Unfortunately, I don't have a G3 mag to test it with, but based on the dimensions I've been able to find, it should work.
@@guntoter_official thanks for the reply, I recently ordered the tall kywi for my ak47 . How did you like it for your test runs
@@juliusoh I definitely prefer the tall KYWIs. The hardest part is tweaking the One-Wrap to make sure you get the balance of retention and access.
@@guntoter_official i accidentally ordered the mag pouch instead of the front flap, is it possible to add velcro straps so it can fit my carrier?
@@juliusoh you ordered the mag pouch instead of the KYWI insert?
So 20 rounders shouldn’t be a problem then 🤔👌🏼

Joel A correct... 20 round AK, went with those to avoid the issue. Just waiting on the pouches now. 😬
The wait is the worst...
